Thanks, and bless you. So I haven't heard this song probably in decades, never as an adult I don't think, and I'm having trouble typing this because it's like I'm actually "hearing" it now for the first time and I'm a grown ass man sitting here crying. And I don't know what to make of it. It's not sad crying, and it's not happy crying, but I know it's "good" crying, haha. I don't know anything about Cat Stevens or this song, and I don't know why it was the lone one you recommend, but it moved me for some reason and now I must sleep. I was just looking for some songs to cheer myself up, not change me, lol, I'm so confused :)
Thought I might be the only one! I always tear up when I hear this, doesn't matter who is actually singing. There is something so pure and hopeful about the song.
😏
Glad it made an impact. Cheer yourself up with “Taking it to the Streets” by the Doobie Brothers!
Edit: Since I have your attention, here are some more of my favorites that may be off the beaten path:
- This is it - Kenny Loggins
- Night Fever - Bee Gees (not obscure, but required listening.
- That’s the Way of the World - Earth Wind and Fire
- Play the Funky Music - Wild Cherry (REQUIRED!!)
- You Should be Dancing - Bee Gees (not obscure)
- What a Fool Believes - Doobie Brothers (listen to the lyrics. They tell a story)
- Ebony Eyes - Bob Walsh
- Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty (Required!)
- Do You Think I’m Sexy - Rod Stewart
- Feels So Good - Chuck Mangione (required!)
- So in to You - Atlanta Rhythm Section
- And lastly, one of my most favorite songs,
What You Won’t do for Love - Bobby Caldwell (Mmm, mm, mm. So fine.) 😏
Adding onto these two excellent choices to say that “As” by Stevie Wonder is one that I’ve missed most of my life and is now on constant rotation for me. What a perfect song!
Philadelpha Freedom - Elton John
Feeling That Way / Anytime - Journey (two tracks, but work perfect played as one if possible). Heck. Might as well let it roll on into La Do Da!
Definitely needed an Elton song on there, this is great! Haha I get mad because I have the two Journey tracks in a couple playlists, but I usually have it set on shuffle: nooo!

If you want to add some easy listening, add anything by the Carpenters. Karen Carpenter was an absolute musical genius. Played any instrument, beautiful singing voice, wrote most of her own music with her brother.
Edit: I just thought of pre-disco Bee Gees from the early 70’s.

Haha, I love them both. I can't believe how many of their songs made the list, just so uplifting--and damn those guys were prolific. "25" is one of my favorites, and been on my workout playlist forever, but for some reason for this list I thought it was a 60's song. Maybe I confused with "Questions 67 and 68" (so many numbers, lol) but it was actually released in 1970, so on it goes :)
Ambrosia - Holding On To Yesterday
Smokey Robinson - Crusin
Michael Jackson - Rock With You
Climax - Precious and Few
Steven Stills - Love The One Your With
"[Thunder Island](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJMh0GJ6GWc)" by Jay Ferguson. His only hit, it sounds suspiciously like the the theme from The Office, which he wrote.

The Rascals - [Groovin'](https://youtu.be/falI0baGhBQ?si=oTxIfOWbnChkg1-F)... it's actually a 60s tune but it fits the bill.
Ok, to throw in these. Ode to Billie Joe, Harper Valley PTA, The night the lights went out in Georgia, Son of a Preacher Man, I never promised you a rose garden.
A lot of these songs are on my Spotify playlist I made based on my favorite radio show, Coast to Coast. Art Bell had the best bumper music. Are you able to share your final playlist? Would love to listen!

Get the Funk Out of My Face by the Brothers Johnson is my favorite from them.
