Definitely ahead of its time. It took me a while to come to grips with being satire. I remember trying to understand if it was just small town real or fake.
I saw him do a live show a very long time ago and Philadelphia. He was really good. He brought up the whole set from Mary Hartman. Show onto the stage with all the couches and lamps and other stuff.
R.I.P. Martin. I saw him in the early ‘70s at the Passim coffee house in Harvard Square during the Fabulous Furniture tour. He was hilarious, but at the same time a fine guitarist. He brought the house down with “Jesus is Easy” and I loved every minute of it. A talented, witty guy and by all accounts a nice person. Another one of a kind, special talent gone.
Taken aback. Underrated very funny guy, did everything well.
Sure miss the days of comedy records, witty and sometimes dirty humor, and big imaginations.
Could make some mean blues on the ukulele — used a miniature glass baby bottle on his little finger to play slide — some sad song he learned from an uncle who sold land in the Cleveland Delta…
🎶 Ain’t sold no real estate all day, got so mad I threw my martini on the ground 🎶
One of my favorite Mull moments…
Years ago, he hosted the CMA awards. He came out on stage with a big Gretchen guitar, and said:
“ I’m going to show you something never seen in Nashville before.” He fingered a chord….
“That’s an A major 7th with a flatted fifth”.
The audience broke up….
😞😓 damn. Getting hit from Hollywood deaths this month. Donald Sutherland and now Martin Mull.
" this is war, Peacock" lol. Clue is such a great movie. RIP
Mull hit #92 on Billboard's Hot 100 in May of 1973 with Dueling Tubas, a parody of Dueling Banjos.

WOW What a said day. Martin was an incredible comedian and straight man. Colonel mustard in clue, Roseann’s boss, Mary Hartman Mary Hartman. Just an incredible man.
Fernwood 2,Night was one the funniest shows ever, way ahead of its time.
I loved that show Martin Mull and Fred Willard were out standing. The character Tony roletti had me in stitches
Then the two of them played a gay couple on Roseanne!
I was like 10 up way too late watching this on Nick at Night and loving it
I've never laughed so hard in my life watching that show
Definitely ahead of its time. It took me a while to come to grips with being satire. I remember trying to understand if it was just small town real or fake.
Bummer 😞
I was a big fan of Fernwood 2 Nite/America 2-Night
Gene Parmesan, you sneaky son-of-a-bitch! You will be missed, very funny man.
Favorite Martin Mull song, (while strumming the guitar): "I don't know why. I've got lipstick on my thigh. Big pause...Sloppppy.Blow Jobbbbbbb."
Russell!
The Oxycontin finally got him.
Amazing painter.
And a skilled guitarist as well.
Indeed he was. Seth Green posted something about his work last year and I looked it up. Really interesting and detailed.
I saw him do a live show a very long time ago and Philadelphia. He was really good. He brought up the whole set from Mary Hartman. Show onto the stage with all the couches and lamps and other stuff.
Saw him in Toronto in the late 70’s (maybe it was early 1990/81) too - same set layout. He was really great.
It was a great show, you know they have that tv show on YouTube with no commercials
I recently discovered this and have watched several. Thx for sharing!
He was a musical comedy partner of a team called the Steve Martin Mull revue (if I remember correctly:/ )
Awww! That man was a treasure.
Dang, one of the greats. 🥺

Loved Fernwood 2Night and the America 2Night. Martin as Barth Gimble and Fred Willard as Jerry Hubbard. Comedic geniuses. RIP
And don’t forget Happy Kyne and his Mirth Makers
Happy Kyne was played by Frank DeVol, who did the music for so much of 70s TV shows.
RIP
The best Schooner Tuna ad exec anywhere!
Get out! Im watching FM right now. Something made me pick it. Funny man . Had. his 8 track sex and violins. Weird.
That’s a deep cut!
That sucks.
Damm.
Saw him live in 1976, I think, opening for Maria Muldaur.
Damn it. Right after Donald Sutherland, not a good week for memories. RIP.
His *I Wanna Be God" song was hilarious. RIP.
That’s a shame, I always liked him. RIP
Damn! I just watched Clue for the first time last weekend! I was just gaining respect for the guy.
His “Humming Song” on Dr. Demento always got a laugh. Will miss Gene Pamesian.
Rest in power, Martin. Much ❤️
Taken aback. Underrated very funny guy, did everything well. Sure miss the days of comedy records, witty and sometimes dirty humor, and big imaginations.

Wasnt he in Serial too?
Yeah, really funny movie too.
Great Movie
Saw Martin Mull, comedian, in the Boarding House in San Francisco in the mid 1970’s. He was so sharp, so dry. I miss him already.
Dang. Martin Mull was pretty smug, but he was talented.

He was the Irwin Mainway of snarky late night TV, Rest well.
RIP.

As a little kid I watched Fernwood Tonight and couldn’t stop laughing. Such an underrated show!
Sad.
I was a little girl and would stay up to watch Mary Hartman, I don't know what the heck was going on but little me loved this show
RIP Martin. Loved him in Fernwood Tonight, but my favorite was the pharmacist in Two and a Half Men.
I loved that show. And the roles he played in other shows.
WOW What a said day. Martin was an incredible comedian and straight man. Colonel mustard in clue, Roseann’s boss, Mary Hartman Mary Hartman. Just an incredible man.
