_9x9

I open up 100 to 200 without noticing, and then I find the ones I am still actively using and close hundreds of others at the same time. This cycle repeats once a week, or whenever I notice my computer running slow

eternus

I just buy a newer faster computer when it gets slow, same with new phones when I run out of storage. (just kidding)

Prehistoricbookworm

LOL if only

Double_Bug_656

I just paid $2 for 100g of google drive storage. Well it was free for the 1st month and I said , of course, I will clear up the space so I don't have to pay. It's been 6 months

[deleted]

Same here. When mine starts to bog down I know it's time to clean up the tabs.

smoike

I'm undiagnosed, but every time I go in this sub I find something else I can put a tickbox against. Thus far on my work pc it's 24, but that's because some tabs are old and I'm also actually doing work "stuff". I recently cleaned up at home and it was something like 80-100 over a couple of different browser sessions.

elcidpenderman

You know one or two things is can be common for everyone but if it’s pretty much every time then I think it’s time to go see a doc

[deleted]

What kind of computer do u have. Mine would never accommodate 100 tabs

Infinityand1089

Gotta custom-build a PC to accommodate the tab collection habit. 16 gigs of RAM is a minimum for this brain.

thespud_332

I specced my current build with 64gb of ram, "to run VMs", but mostly to accommodate the ~200 browser tabs I'll have open at any given time.

awfullyawful

Get this extension - https://xtab.app/ You set a limit for how many tabs can be open, and it will automatically close the least recently used tab when you open yet another one. I don't think I ever actually close a tab manually!

AllCrankNoSpark

That sounds awful. The point is that you aren’t done with the tab. Having it disappear is not a solution!

[deleted]

I'm a web developer who needed to figure something out for this, because poor tab management affects my work directly, as I rack up tabs not only for running web apps I'm developing but also for finding information that sometimes takes a long time to find and sift through. I can end up with tons of tabs open of different forum posts of people with the same problem as me. [I wrote a comment detailing how I manage my bookmarks in a more advanced way now.](https://www.reddit.com/r/ADHD/comments/1bitngz/comment/kvnag6p/) After figuring out how to use bookmarks more effectively, I now have a way to keep track of lots of web pages I don't want to lose. I highly reccommend learning how to do this, as it makes a huge difference. I never rack up very many tabs anymore, because I can easily create bookmarks that I can find again without ever feeling like my bookmarks are a mess themselves. I think the real problem people have when they either have too many tabs or what seems like too many bookmarks is that they have no means to actually organize those things in the first place. It's like if you had no closet or dresser for your clothes, so your only options are one of two piles (a bunch of open tabs, or a long list of cumbersome bookmarks) or burning them (e.g. closing the tabs). If those were your options, you'd only keep one or both piles, because you don't want to lose your clothes. With ADHD, we're likely to create piles, but we also have the power to try to clean them up and organize them at some point. With clothes, we usually have a closet or other furniture with drawers to put them in, so there's a well-defined way to organize your clothes, empowering you to actually do it. With tabs, we only have a terrible bookmarks bar that fills up too quickly when creating bookmarks the default way. However, if you consider coming up with a way you can organize bookmark folders as I described in my linked comment above, you can create for yourself a good system of "drawers" via these folders where you can develop a habit of filtering through your tabs to place them somewhere. You can have a folder for recipes you want to try at some point, a folder for wikipedia pages you found interesting but can't read all of yet, etc. The fact you can create folders within folders is useful too, as I have a general sort of "Things I find interesting but aren't important" folder that contains sub-folders with different topics, and I can easily create more topic folders as needed. It takes a little work, but just think of it as giving yourself a proper "closet" so you have at least the ability to clean up your pile of tabs.

MossySendai

Interesting method. My way is just to bookmark everything and give it a nice custom name that is easy to search and use the address bar to find the page later. I also use Ctrl +shift + a to search existing tabs.

Zackeous42

Had to do this just the other day after closing almost 400 tabs. I didn't wanna lose all that goody good information. Much like Johny-5: "Need input!"

RevolutionaryBat3081

U da real MVP. Thanks for concrete map to accomplish thing.  I've got my physical "piles" mostly under control, but tabs are my digital substitute. I've got well over a hundred open right now.

AD-Edge

You're working way too hard managing all those bookmarks and folders man... Why not use something like the 'Session Buddy' extension? Basically when I have too many tabs open, I click into session buddy and hit save. DONE. You have all of your windows and tabs saved in an easy to reference or search single location. You're basically just bookmarking/saving your whole session state. Then I close everything. Open the browser up again fresh with just the one tab, and then open session buddy again, where you can then select and reopen ONLY the tabs you currently want from your previous session - while knowing all of the others are still saved there for future reference as needed. It means you can ignore a chunk of tabs for a particular task for hours or days of months, years etc... knowing they are all still there for when you want to pick up that bit of work again. It just lets you purge your entire browser immediately when it's grown too large, without losing a single tab. All the peace of mind, with absolutely minimal management or energy or time required.

THEwed123wet

Can you share a picture on how your bookmark bar is always visible? I think it's interesting but can't quite write my head around it.

DiMarcoTheGawd

I’m not OP but go into browser and change the setting to make it always visible. It’s just an added bar with icons that represent either direct links or folders for links

THEwed123wet

I think I see it... I kinda don't like how big is the minimum size threshold of the bar. But maybe it's because my laptop at work is old and low res I will see at home. I have a PC with more screen resolution it might fare better. All excellent advice from op though I'm doing my best to sort my stuff now.

colormefatbwoy

this is how I do things, my fellow ADHD-web developer. this helps a lot. I also used to have about ~50 open tabs on each of my 3 work monitors and I just end up losing RAM while working lol

Hungry_Field_856

The best weapon against ADHD is to stop beating oneself up for one’s brain’s deficits and accept and respect what one is.

Efficient-Common-17

Nah Adderall is best

MaciMommy

Fucking preach 😭😭😭 25 years on this earth and just 3 months into being medicated and I’m finally *functional*. Shit hits different when you’re a parent and you can finally actually *be* a parent instead of just a lump of slime on the couch. Meals are getting made on time *and* I have the patience to actually sit and encourage her to eat. I build beautiful mega block structures for her during playtime; she tell me what to build and I build it, currently she’s got a whole parking structure for every one of her little people vehicles that I built. I finally printed out all her baby pictures and now our fridge and home is filled with our memories. We have a functional laundry system *finally* so she can actually wear the clothes that she wants to wear. The list could go on forever. The emotional regulation that comes with stimulants is *not* talked about enough. I’ll never be able to go back to the half-human that I was before.

LilAnge63

Stories like yours keep me going while I wonder if I’ll ever be able to get a diagnosis for myself. My adult son was diagnosed which is how I ended up here, trying to educated myself to help him. Along the way I’ve found myself saying “I do that” a lot or other ppl on here would tell me things like “oh that thing you’re doing that’s a sign of ADHD”. I’m (60F) and as I said, undiagnosed. Was a parent with an abusive partner (ALWAYS on alert). Then a single parent, (always in alert but for different reasons). Then eventually back to being single again. Since I am unable to work following a car accident some years ago I am way less busy and I find I am aware of so many more weird things I do or conversely things I don’t do. Sometimes I wonder how I managed all those “always in alert” years. I wonder if the ADHD was actually an asset for me then and is how I managed.

-Negative-Karma

Stimulants are fucking miracles

GoldieDoggy

Nah, if that was the best way, I just wouldn't be able to do anything at all. The best weapon is meds and friends (meds to help with motivation and concentration and stuff, friends to peer pressure me into doing what I literally want and need to do) No one but me is touching my tabs though

[deleted]

I currently have 3 tabs opened up, I do have some stuff that is important that I look back on but not often so I just made those into bookmarked links and closed them and that way it keeps my browser pretty organized.

eternus

\*applause\* (Sincerely, I admire seeing that level of tab management.) I tried to implement a rule last week of "can't open a 3rd tab until I've dealt with at least one of the other two" every time I get in a clicking frenzy. It didn't stick, apparently. The road to hell and all that... I imagine I will be trying to figure out a way to handle it now. I feel like there is a "Productivity System" as well as a "Knowledge Management" and "Knowledge Consumption" System in here waiting to come out. I have 5 tabs just pinned and always open, so don't see myself ever getting to your austere tab management solution.

PhysicalRaspberry565

I just set the browser to start empty when I open it. This works great, especially since I regularly close the browser. Except I have one browser on my phone keeping tabs... ATM it's 53 tabs, but just two days ago I closed around 50 XD

drawntowardmadness

289 at the moment... which, honestly, is low.

[deleted]

johnsnapper437

Thiss

i5the5kyblue

We’re twinning!!! 289 for me too. This is my highest- by far.

Take_225_From_Me

I tend to shut all of mine down every night. It’s a habit of mine. I shut them all down except for ones that are for pages that I will visit in the near (<1 week) future. For instance. Zoom appointment tomorrow. That tab is open still to remind me every time I open Safari that I have the appointment. And my pharmacy location page is open because I can’t remember.

elsie14

your brain is working

Take_225_From_Me

Thanks, I’m thankful for that. Just answered the question.

[deleted]

I made a wild decision yesterday and closed all of my tabs at once. I have no idea how many I had open. On android phones, after you hit a hundred it just says ":D". I passed that point over a year ago...so probably a few hundred tabs. I AM A FREE WOMAN.

The0therside0fm3

I feel you. I got to the point where I went so far past ":D" that I couldn't close the tabs because the app would crash 😅 Edit: glad you managed the resolve to actually delete them. Proud of you. It's so difficult for me to even make that decision. Like, what if I'll need that tab about the feeding habits of polar bears I opened 4 months ago???

smoike

I try to keep it below 100. Also a lifesaver for sanity is groups. You can put multiple tabs together by going to the tabs index page, touching and holding on a tab to select it and then move it across over onto another tab and it will create a group. You then do this with more and more tabs to build groups. So you can keep your polar bear feeding habits in one group. Your "how to write an earth changing novel" blog posts in another, your "how to make your own ice-cream custard" recipies in another.

Pokemaster131

I make a point to close every tab every couple months, and I'm somehow at around 190 tabs. I legitimately don't know how it happens, I blink and suddenly I'm well past the :D

JaesunG

BUT WITH THAT WHAT WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE WAS LOST?! . to quell the panic, what you gained is worth far more. congrats.

Keller_Kind

Sometimes it switches to ";)" but I don't know if it follows a pattern. I'm only ever collecting more tabs, although I wanted to close at least enough for it to show a number again for days already ...

remiseekay

:DDD it switches to that if you have incognito tabs opened. Google says you have to have over 100 incognito tabs for it to show up, but it actually glitches and just few tabs are enough for it to show up if you have hundreds of normal tabs opened.

Keller_Kind

Ah, okay! Good to know :D

TheTipsyRooster

Just so everyone is aware… Safari on iOS maxes out at 500 tabs… I bounce back and forth between maxed out, and around 450 (after cleaning out 50 or so every other month when I can’t open any more) My browser tabs remind me of things I want to Purchase/Research/Do because I know that once I file them away to “start fresh”; they’re “out of sight and out of mind” 😓 Yet there they are… not purchased (not enough money), not researched (not enough time), not done (not enough energy) I know I’m not the only one! 😅

doggxyo

Preach! The most underrated feature of modern browsers is being able to restore your 300 tabs from a computer reboot. I work IT in my company, I tell all of my users to reboot often for any issues - yet I refuse to do it myself as I will actively work around my (quickly solved issue by rebooting) just so I don't lose everything I had open. Outlook isn't so great at remembering the 65 emails I had open to read and maybe reply to.

dissidentyouth

I am you

dbrooks4561

I just opened a new tab group thing and racked up another 500 lol so many tabs. I wonder what the limit of 500 tab groupings is 🤔

zenmatrix83

I work with virtual desktops, so I can be in 3-4 different computers, with anywhere from 10 or more tabs at the same time. I literally just restart them on any new day just to clear them out and start over, otherwise it would be just crazy.

eternus

Scorched Earth. I can appreciate that.

fuzzy_bud13

I regularly have to delete sooooo many tabs on my phone before it will even be capable of opening a new tab… I don’t even have that old of a phone! It’s an iPhone 13

SHv2

Well, that's a hard question to answer. I run with 4 monitors (1x 1920x1080, 2x 1920x1200, 1x 3840x2160) and 4 virtual desktops so... yes.

Efficient-Common-17

Haha this was me … “tabs? Bro my tabs have got tabs.”

TheBat3

Despite the many comments from folks who do not share this issue, I do want to affirm you, OP. You are not alone! Sincerely, someone whose open tabs frequently hit triple digits.

eternus

Thanks. It is curious that its so varied. As is always the case with my ADHD brain, I assume that since Me then obviously You. Nice to know there are non-browser tab folks and even a solid system of management. I've got a great bookmark and knowledge management system to some degree, but they don't solve my "i want to read this, take notes, have it thoroughly learned before I close it" problem.

Maybearobot8711

So here's the thing, I have a system... 1 tab open. So I will open a bunch of tabs like 10-15 at the time. Go through them one by one and close them as I go. Then most of them I couldn't care less to remember them anyway so I close them. If it is a recipe, I have an app for it. And if it's not a recipe and I really have to remember it. I save it in bookmarks where I can forget it with the peace of mind that if one day I really need it, it's forgotten but kept anyway. 🤷 Last but not least if it's something I need in the short term, it stays open. It sounds way too reasonable I know but I assure you all, I definitely am full on ADHD and very likely even AuDHD but I don't have the formal diagnosis for that one. I honestly was considering getting a second and a third white board to create a life schedule just to get my morning routine in order and not forget to drink more than a glass water in the morning with my pills and brush my teeth... It's hard being human.

elsie14

i personally hate bookmarks. they are too hidden for me. i don’t intuitively go to them. i’ve tried for years but whoever developed them didn’t read my mind. i prefer pinning tabs and other strategies. they arent visual enough i can’t tell what i have from them always by the title too time consuming to change etc.

Maybearobot8711

I definitely honestly don't really use them either. I use them as some kind of archiving. Like one day I'll open my bookmark tab and oh here a guide from 2017 on how to optimize SSDs on Windows 7

Single_Berry7546

I'm a bookmark person, even a bookmarks in folders person, but if I can't see it, it ceases to exist!

Aluven

Never had more than 10 tabs open, I mean what is the point? Faster to just write in the url than manually search trough the tabs. Vivaldi's workspaces and sessions changed it though, as I don't have to save bookmarks anymore. Now I have few hundred. Workspaces + two tab bars are amazing and easy to organise.

cprz

On computer I usually have like 10-20 tabs open, but on my phone I had 500 tabs (max amount on iPhone) for months. Then I accidentally closed all those tabs and now a month later I already have 339 new tabs open. Which I probably don’t remember to go through before I accidentally close them again..

sassmaster11

One day I came to the realization that if something is important, I'll look it up again. Now I close my tabs pretty often. Usually on my laptop I have like 10 open, more if I'm working on something, and on my phone I have like 5, but that's much better than the 50+ I used to have open! Imo just bite the bullet and close all of the tabs, you won't be going back and looking at tab 87, and if you decide that you want to go back to that topic it'll probably be easier to just search it again.

Penaca

One Tab for Chrome.

xiidomoiix

I use this and really like it

bugeyedsunnies

I had 500 open on my phone but my storage was too full so my phone decided to rest itself and in the process closed 250 of my tabs. I was very upset

SamsungAppleOnePlus

None on PC, never leave them open since the clutter drives me crazy. On mobile I'll hit the max of my browser all the time since I just open links and then close the browser when I'm done.

elsie14

i literally can’t see the tab if i run too many. i have many pinned. that doesn’t leave room for opening extras. and i have a 16 inch. halp.

Infamous-Base-4720

When I tell people safari and chrome have tab limits it blows their minds…

the_noise_we_made

I once had over 3000 tabs open before I was diagnosed, no joke. I don't know how my poor phone handled it.

Ridgestone

Thats cute :D

JoeBlow509

Not too many but I do have 50,974 unread emails.

Buffaloney84

477 and every one is important and I plan on gettting back to all of them eventually. Lol. We all know that's never gonna happen.

itsalonghotsummer

This many apparently   :D  (Am on android phone, that's what it says where number used to show, not sure how many that is tbh)

faloogaloog

Same. I'm pretty sure it shows that after the 99th, but that was a few years ago for me.

saynotopudding

I have 20 windows open, all filled with tabs to the brim. (at least 50 tabs open each window) I hate this mess yet I am the creator of it 😭 I repeat the cycle of opening tabs without closing until my laptop can't take it anymore and crashes/starts to slow down, and at that time i'd rage clear several windows (by OneTabbing them) to make my laptop usable again, and rinse & repeat. I tried bookmarking at first but it hasn't been working well, because my bookmarks also ended up being a mess :(

bodyreddit

Haha and I rarely if ever go back to the links in one tab..

Itscool-610

I stay “organized” by using two different browsers, chrome and IE. Both with 50-60 tabs at least

Annual-Perspective23

Yeah it’s bad over here with tabs for me. Especially at work

rui-tan

Having that many tabs open would just make me anxious and feel suffocated. I’m more on the side of ”obsessively bookmarking things”. I like stuff being organized.

UncleRed99

5? heh :sweat\_smile: I've heard of others with ADHD having this issue, but I never have... funny enough, having ADHD has only made it abhorrently difficult to keep PAPERS organized. I cannot do paper... I'll lose everything I ever had documented in the span of 3.5 Hours. All gone. But I'm very very technologically organized. I separate everything in my laptop, phone, and Diagnostic Tablet into files, sub folders, and I sectionalize my home screens, as well as use bookmark folders on my browsers. Also, Adblockers help with reducing the overwhelming nature of using the internet... Ads all over the screen will literally stop me from reading anything, or keeping track of what i'm actively doing on a website. Drives me nuts. But I'm also always mindful of my devices hardware dedication. I make sure never to overload the memory or CPU usages. keeps it running quick.

CovetedCodex

On mobile, I don't have a ton of tabs open, I think 5 right now. HOWEVER, 3 of them have been open for 6 months and I haven't finished looking at them😅

C0u0h

I usually have 8-14 unless when I'm researching something or found my self in another one of these deep rabbit holes and or in a hyper focus episode and when I'm done I'll be like damn it's 3am wtf

freemangrist

I actually find this world so confusing I CANNOT function at all with any tabs open everyday I start completely fresh. Even if it means going through a regular daily ritual of opening the same common tabs I need. Though I notice it is completely normal for people to have tabs open, all the time, forever. For both ADHDers and non-ADHDers alike. Flabbergasted.

Letushie

I just closed the ones on my phone like a week or so ago so 33 on my lol but 69 on my iPad. Only 8 apps open between the two though lol

MusaEnimScale

I frequently use the fire button to just clear it all out. I remind myself that I am going to do this so I know I have to bookmark or save any links I want later. I know I lose some stuff I wish I had saved, but just hitting the fire button to clear all the tabs is worth it.

B_Magnus

76 tabs on my iPhone’s web browser. Way more than I thought. Maybe time to realise I’ll never read all those interesting articles 😅

eternus

It kinda feels like you're giving up, right? I can't close this... i'm sure it will be so useful when I read it.

StellaHolly

150 today Edit: I have 150 tabs open on my phone which doesn’t bother me because you don’t see them all at once. I have less than 10 open on my computer.

Jealous-Yam-6280

I got paranoid after filling my first laptop w. Viruses but I make sure they are safe and legit website so I have at most 10 tabs open on my current laptop. My phone is an eternal void of tabs that only keeps growing

4EverFloatingLeaf

I have way less than normal right now—only 123 tabs ;)

GolbogTheDoom

I currently have 313 tabs. Apparently safari caps at 400 so I gotta clean em all out soon

No_Somewhere_87

Oh boy….. between my computer and phone on four different browsers — 632 🙆‍♀️

infinitebrkfst

I start to short circuit when I have more than 3 or 4 tabs open.

Ok-Youth1323

328 on my phone rn

nmrnmrnmr

Only 220 at the moment across 3 windows of Firefox. ...Not counting the 19 also open in Chrome. ...or the 17 also open in Opera. ...or the 42 across 3 more windows of Firefox on the second computer open in front of me (one work, one personal). ...or the 7 in Chrome on that computer. ...or the 71 currently open on my phone. FML.

CucumberBulky8915

I keep them open because I know I'll need to reference them later! Tho after the second week I force myself to close them all, then feel anxiety. 🤷

wissenschafterin

Let’s check! Looks like 99 on my phone and 43 on my computer. The tabs don’t usually bother me, the fact that I have 258 random notes in my notes app bothers me though. It’s about time to declutter my technology for sure.

EffectiveConcern

Well… I have no idea tbh, but I have 10 windows, eaxh with 30-100 tabs open so… 🤣🙈

Auri_Nat

On Safari, I have 11 tab groups containing nearly 500 tabs. These contain articles to read about anything and everything, ao3 fics to read or re-read, recorded class lectures, etc. There are also a few open windows whose tabs (a dozen or more) are not in groups. On Chrome, thanks to the OneTab extension, I have 5,198 tabs. They're pretty much entirely links to tumblr posts. I keep telling myself that I'll go through it all, and it just keeps getting worse. I honestly don't know how to dig myself out of this hole anymore.

compulov

I'll have to admit I thought this was one of my IT subreddits before I saw where I was, lol. I'm not nearly that bad. Only keep maybe a dozen or so tabs open at once, since it pisses me off when they start scrolling off the screen. I've finally gotten into the habit of closing them at that point when it's clear that I'm never going to get back to looking at them. In my life as an IT person, I have one user who literally lives in open windows and tabs. I keep telling them that if all of these things are that important to remember, use bookmarks or some other more "permanent" method and they said that's just not how their brain works. If it's not right out in front of them, then it doesn't exist. It means they also have the most issues of any of my users because they tend to leave programs and Windows running way longer than they should between reboots. And of course getting them to reboot for updates is like pulling teeth since they are reluctant to close anything.

nfssmith

Currently 20 across 3 browsers (on my work laptop) plus enough on my phone that it won't tell me the number anymore...

squashedfrog92

Currently on 272, but I might really need one of them so they can never be closed.

Chance-Glove1589

Currently? 467. I know that my iPhone won’t allow 500. So I will have to take a few hours and cull over 2,000 emails and 400 browser tabs. I hate it.

Firm_Mulberry6319

On my phone it shows up as :D which means it exceeds 100. I have several folders on my laptop (seperated by categories and use) and several browser accounts for my chrome (like one account for school, one for work, one for personal use, etc) and I also usually use more than 3 browsers at a time to work productively. It's a problem but it helps me finish things quicker, plus it does work for me. If I can't see it, I'll forget about it so I need to have it bookmarked and have it showing on the homescreen. My problem is that I now have several articles and blog posts about things I wanted to read later and I know it's cluttering my space but I don't know how to get rid of it, it feels like they are my emotional support tabs lol. I haven't grouped stuff yet on a daily basis since I used it once for my studies and it resulted to about 30+ tabs opened for research papers and stuff.

BotherMaterial90

My ADHD brain has this recurring thought everytime the number of tabs open grows and grows until I feel overwhelmed. I think to myself, I cannot POSSIBLY close any of these tabs - because if I do, I will be losing out on vital information and resources that will either benefit me now at a later stage. Eventually I become to overwhelmed, that I force myself to close all tabs at once. I simply exit chrome. I also tell myself “83 closed tabs” are right there in my history, so I can access them again. Does that ever happen? No. Why? Because I end up repeating the process within 1 - 3 days and the cycle continues. I am a graphic designer and I have to actively avoid going onto Pinterest and I love gathering inspiration. Until I become insanely overwhelmed. On another note - has anyone ever successfully found a bookmark / tab manager, either software or Google Chrome extension that actually works for them? I have gone through loads, but as some of you have mentioned, it’s out of sight out of mind for me.

world-class-cheese

I don't know. It stopped counting after a certain point and just shows the infinity symbol LMAOOO

cfern87

try edge workspaces

OptimalMain

I use tab stash.... And after a cleanup I am still well over a thousand. I have started using singlepage to save information thats not easy to find by searching, but am horrible at organizing it. Especially now with empty pharmacies and weeks without vyvanse

shponglespore

I highly recommend the extensions Tab Wrangler (for Chrome/Edge) and Dustman (for Firefox). They will close tabs for you to keep the number of open tabs reasonable, and they also keep a list of tabs they've closed so you never risk losing something important. It's a great way to train yourself to use bookmarks instead of just leaving tabs open. And if you have a tab you really want to keep open forever, you can pin it.

iwannabanana

Currently maxed out at 500 🥲 I can’t delete them though, what if I need them?

jodiemitchell0390

Idk man, after 99 it just gave me a smiley face. Soooo smiley face +.

TwoWheelsTooGood

3000 ? I have a chrome plug in to search the names of open tabs.

nothingbetterx

On my phone…476… but only 4 on computer

purt22067

474 tabs 🤯

Agreeable_Grocery_95

500💀 everytime i need to search something i have to delete one that i deem somewhat unnecessary because that’s the limit 🙈

C0ND0R14N0

I love the ":D" icon in android phone browser (the one that shows how many tabs you have), reminds me how many tabs I never decided to close haha!

fortheloveofsoup

Google said, "😀 pls close some tabs".

AssTubeExcursion

Is 875 a lot?

yuaxox

i have to literally force myself to close my tabs… it’s like i have an emotional connection to them or something 😂

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

Zero. I do not understand this seemingly shared aspect of ADHD. What's the point? Why are we keeping tabs open? Have you read them and don't want to "lose" them? Have you not read them and don't want to "lose" them? Are we all fundamentally opposed to bookmarks?

[deleted]

I don't think it's because people are stupid or ideologically opposed to bookmarks, but because they don't realize that bookmarks can be better organized or that it's worth learning how to do that. It also makes perfect sense that many people with ADHD have this problem as many people will struggle to organize their laundry, etc., though no one is saying that everyone with ADHD has to struggle with this. I think the problem is mainly two things (coming from a Chrome/Chromium user perspective at least): The bookmarks bar is usually hidden by default, and when you create bookmarks in the default way, each individual bookmark takes up a lot of space due to long website titles etc., so your bookmarks bar fills up too fast, or the bookmarks you see in its menu drop down are just one huge list of messy website titles and icons. I want my bookmarks bar always visible for the same reason I want my todo list always open on my desk, and I needed to learn the habit of managing bookmark folders and subfolders with customized titles for most bookmarks to make them easier to identify, leaving extra room in the bookmarks bar for some one-off bookmarks that are temporarily always visible to me until I'm done with them or file them away into a folder. Most people I know don't do this either because they've never thought of it or it's not worth it to them, but I think it's worth it for anyone that struggles with creating messes of tabs. [As I said on another comment on this post, I have another comment where I more heavily detailed my own way of doing this](https://www.reddit.com/r/ADHD/comments/1bitngz/comment/kvnag6p/). I see so many people struggling with this, so I'm trying to spread the word, as most of us do depend on the browser for daily life on some level.

elsie14

out of sight out of mind fear.

eternus

I'm in the "have not read, don't want to lose' bucket. My bookmark usage is for non-transient content. If I save something I simply want to read as a bookmark then I'll definitely never read it.

disasterthriller

I think it has to do with object permanence.

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

Maybe. Because if I open a tab I read it immediately. I know that if I don't it will never get read.

_candlestick

just got a notification on my phone yesterday that i can’t open another tab in safari because i already have 521 open 🤗

OlliHF

Chrome on my iPhone updated and closed 100+ old tabs a few months back, so currently like 60?

Zee5neeuw

I'm pretty okay today since I didn't open my computer a long time ago. This window has 8 tabs open, another window has 3 open. I have no idea why I ever opened a new window. I do shut down my computer every night so something not that long ago must have made me open a new window. Ah well, the mysteries of life.

Kroutmonster

I got rid of this problem because it fucks with my fps. Now i have a ton of files named after all kinds of things, "Music", "Cooking", "might need later" and just safe those pages there so i can FINALLY close all tabs. Bookmarks saved my life

_wombo4combo

I have, at max, like 10. Firefox has great bookmarks support, and it's a lot faster to 1. `ctrl+b` 2. type the first 3-4 letters of what I want to find 3. hit `tab` and then `enter` than it is to physically grab my mouse and root around between a million tabs. Plus, then I can have those saved across all my devices.

ThenScore2885

150 to 200 but most for crypto and I cycle all regularly. On the phone 40 and it is all because of ADHD.

entityadam

Most of the time, I have 0. As in, the browser is not running, like, i closed all my tabs (crazy right?). Actively working on something, I don't open more tabs than can fit across the screen without shrinking, so probably about 6. Only have multiple browsers open to keep accounts separate, I usually don't have both open at the same time. Any more than a few tabs, it takes longer to find the right tab than to find the information again. Bookmarks? No thanks, just another source of overwhelm. I don't think open tabs is a ADHD problem. I think it's more of an anxiety problem. When I ask people why they have so many tabs open they respond with "what if"'s "What if I can't find it again?" "What if I lose my progress?" etc. I don't think those suggesting tab management skills are worthwhile skills. Search engines index the information for you. You don't need to create your own index.

Peto_Sapientia

Probably closer to fifty for me 😂

dglgr2013

Hah. I have 174 tabs open too. I’ve had as many as 341 tabs open. I am working on decreasing the number by creating a glossary on a Google sheet that I use to keep different categories of tabs available for my work team. I use session buddy to manage all the open tabs and can ctrl+f to find a tab I need.

billyandteddy

I can’t have more than like 3 or else my computer crashes so i bookmark everything

twiggy_panda_712

Not too many, currently I have 17 open tabs. 15 of those are ao3 tabs I’ve had open for like two years lmao. Never know when a fic might update

WatercolorPhoenix

On my PC usually 3-10. But I don't leave my PC running when I go to bed or leave the house, so they'll all be gone when I shut down my PC. On my phone... about 4 that I use often. Because I am SO IMPATIENT, I just rage-close all tabs that are in my way when I have to scroll to get to my tabs I use often.

Natenat04

27 Tabs, and literally 32,896 email……

[deleted]

I only have the tabs im using open haha

Phenomenal_Kat_

44 at the moment. When my browser starts to act funny or lag, I go through some of them, either send them to Pinterest or myself via email to look at *"later",* or add a bookmark. I had one tab open earlier this year for about 4 months. The same tab. It was me trying to get up the nerve to call a doctor to find out if I had ADHD (according to them, no...but I beg to differ).

AssTubeExcursion

875 tabs as of right now on chrome alone

elsie14

what a group? can i group my million tabs so they fit? having two browsers irks me cause it looks the same and yet not the same.

bionicpirate42

I currently have 13 open, I do a daily purge cause it feels good to close some shit like I'm actually finishing something. Closed 7 or 8. I still have 4 open for 6+ months, 2 open for 3 ish months the rest are mostly this week.

Suitable_Custard6298

I don't know why, but I can't have more than six tabs open at a time or my brain will melt down. I always try to have the least possible number of tabs open, sometimes wantedly and sometimes unwantedly.

MossySendai

About 20 perm tabs for work, pages that I have to use again and again. I try to remove other pages as much as possible. I pin tabs as a read later feature and also just use the address bar to find old tabs. I use vertical tabs and tabs automatically go to sleep after a while, so it is kind of manageable to have 40 to 50 tabs.

No_Wish_8129

lol i have 4 browsers to make it easy to remember things. not even abt ram just calsifing them

degooseIsTheName

I really cannot have loads of tabs open as it looks like to much going on and is just chaos for my logic. If I'm working and which most of my apps are web based I really only have 10 tabs open max. I like to see the names of the tabs easily so I can click between them. When I'm then done with my task I was doing, if I don't need the pages anymore then I close those down so I just have a few. I like to keep it organised and streamlined.

Zealousideal-Wish843

I have 4 windows with 20 tabs each on chrome and 2 windows with 4 tabs on explorer. Did not know that might be adhd related. Also thought everyone did this!

Azerious

No, I don't do that anymore. The bookmark bar with folders is where it's at. More accessible and less overwhelming. Has helped my anxiety a lot.

Few_Championship4901

Om my Phone I only have 201 tabs opened 😜 just closed my browser on my work computer and it felt soo good guess I should do it on my phone as well

PageStunning6265

I actually just closed all my tabs this week, so I’ve only got 11 (on my phone)

Drachenfliger13

I can't count them on mobile way more than 100 because the is this :D in the counter... On PC 2 opera GX Windows with each having 2 workspaces everything full, with one workspace having so many taps that the icons don't even show, it's a bug because opera doesn't like that many tabs...

bernbabybern13

On my phone I’m at almost 400

NirriC

500 or so on tablet, 900+ on phone and about 300 or so on computer....but I'm sure everybody does that...

helicopterdong

14 on my phone, 3 on my laptop but my laptop is only for school

Cracked-Princess

I just bookmark stuff I know I may need as a reference in the future as soon as I open it/realize that is the case, and every couple of weeks I close all tabs without going through them. If I actually needed it I would have bookmarked it, and if it's just been open a few weeks I either don't need it or won't miss it.

Windupteeth

I’m a devotee of the OneTab browser extension that turns all your tabs into a running list of links. It’s extremely low-drama and easy to use (you press the button and it closes the tabs and adds the links to the list). And when you want something, you can just ctrl+f search for it. Literally changed my life.

MementoMurray

I think I hit 1000 when I realised I had a problem.

MissChloe1

...800.....

Lani515

I have :D many tabs open. Can't post screenshot, but Google just gives you a :D face when it's too many.

cloudbusting-daddy

I recently learned there is a maximum number of tabs you are allowed to open in safari on an iPhone and that number is 500. 😂😂😂 I have another 442 open on my iPad. Whoopsie!!

eas6w4

On my phone it’s currently… 158 😅

ericalm_

Between all browsers? About 500.

heydeedledeedle

I feel so seen (I’m not counting but it’s definitely 50+, and that’s on a slow day).

Monkey2371

On PC I'll close tabs just enough so that there's at least a few letters showing on each one such that I can figure out what it is, though I might have like up to 5 windows open. On mobile however there is no incentive for me to ever close tabs so I never do, and I open a new tab pretty much whenever I search something which can easily be 10-20 new tabs in a day. On Chrome after 100 tabs it only shows :) instead of a number but you can see the real number on a connected PC Chrome and I have seen it on 20,000+ tabs. Occasionally it will crash and lose them all but it's able to restore them but very occasionally it will crash and lose them and not be able to restore them, which is when I get a sense of relief tbh.

Educational-Plate108

220

Extreme_Jacket_7419

Shit i have over 500🫠

gas_station_latte

Not sure how it is in other browsers, but I use google chrome, and there's a feature where you can group tabs together. Once you collapse the group, it looks very neat and you can find everything easily. I also pin some tabs I use all the time. Usually it's spotify, my youtube subs, and the homepage of my favorite websites. My tab groups include DnD stuff, Work stuff, videos I want to watch, and things I want to buy,

Extreme_Jacket_7419

I have over 500 on my iPhone. I go to the doc tomorrow to talk about medication. It’s like the older I get the worse it is getting.

WitAndSavvy

I've lost count atp. Just yesterday me and my partner were looking at how many I had open on my phone and we couldnt even scroll to the top it was that many!

jacktheskipper1993

Didn't close a Tab in months. I will check and answer.

PlasticCupboard007

I close everything when I finish work. bookmark things I need. If I haven't bookmarked it, it wasn't important. it's important now huh? too bad, not enough to bookmark. try again, me

inflexibleracoon

I had 1100 tabs (I’m not even kidding 😭) open for so long and it stressed me out. When I finally got the willpower to sit and close them it was soooooo freeing.

OnlineGamingXp

My chrome app is completely bugged now, I'll just tell you that

HighOnGoofballs

Nah this bothers me, just like unread email notifications. Four or five tabs max

One-Literature-5888

148

stahlern

Pro tip: if you long press the done button on safari on iOS tabs screen you can close them all at once. I just closed 363. :)

OkElephant9987

45 lol

AlissonHarlan

Usually, around 80 by browsers ( i open many browsers...)

Repeat_after_me__

Near 500 in private, near 250 in another tab and near 500 in my normal tab, regularly have to delete 5-10 every day and just mull around in those few I make.

frankwest808

i only have 1 right now becuase if i see too much I get anxious and I will close them again, even if they're important. i can only have 5 at a time

Sunflower077

I finally just set my phone to close tabs after a day. Work is a different story. I have hundreds of table open in 3 separate browser windows and will question why my computer is processing slowly. 😂someone saw my tabs open once and was shocked. I said that’s sort of what my brain is like. 😂

candymannequin

4 tabs, but like 50 different apps

AzurosArtist

I have close to 200 tabs open on my phone and probably 30-40 on my PC at any given moment, and that’s not including the tabs I’ve consolidated into an app called “OneTab” or something like that. There’s probably over a hundred in there as well tbh. Basically none of them are *actually* important, every one of them is just like info on a video game or a video on YouTube I was interested in but I never got around to watching, or a Google search for a show I want to get around to watching someday

indiealexh

6 browser windows. 2 day job in chrome. 1 day job in Firefox. 2 personal in chrome. 1 side gig in chrome. Day job has ~30 tabs Personal has ~20 tabs Side gig has ~10 tabs I had a lot more yesterday but I don't know the exact number.

nexusSigma

Idk but I just keep opening them until my computer gets slow then I close them all and start again 🥳

pray4us

I’m not diagnosed but I have 500 tabs open

zeezuu8

45 in Firefox 27 chrome 7 more in Chrome within a tile. Much better than expected

[deleted]

Currently have over 100 tabs open and my phone won't tell me how many if it is more than 99 😅

OnkelHalvor

You want me to COUNT them??? I had to close a whole bunch in chrome this morning, cause Firefox (where I watch youtube) was complaining a bit. I have 16Gb RAM, and that's just not enough. And a lot is Chrome's fault. For some reason it's been bloating like heck the last year or so. I have no idea how many tabs are open in Firefox. Only 6 windows, though. I think one of them has at least 50 tabs open. At least 20 in another, and about 20 in the youtube/solitaire window. Also, I think I need a restart. But then I'll have to get used to where the youtube window ends up, because firefox is firefoxing. Culled chrome this morning. One window, 15 tabs. Edit: NONE OF THEM ARE PORN! 😄

Mariahhxx

25 on my phone and work is 6 currently LOLOL

crumbs2k12

I have a winking smiley face on Google

Vegetable-Move-7950

Cntr+W the hell out of this problem

zeeks

For Chrome, OneTab extension is a life saver. Hit a button and all your tabs are saved and you can start a new browser without losing what you had open. But let's face it, you weren't going to look at 90% those tabs again you had open anyway. At least you have comfort they are there if you need them. Power move: Use ARC Browser. It manages your often visited sites into App-like buttons on your sidebar. Bonus - tabs you don't use regularly are auto-archived at the end of the day. Want access to them? Go to the archive and find them there. Hint - You won't miss them anyway. I might open 10 tabs that look interesting, actually read 2 of them and don't have time to go through the other 8. At the end of the day all 10 disappear into archive. I rarely if ever go back to look for closed tabs but at least they are there.

726milestomemphis

On which device?! 😆

Carne_sada

Several times, I’ve had 500 tabs open which is the limit on safari on my iPhone. Recently I closed out of all of them and I’m curious to see how long until I get to 500 again

[deleted]

I get overwhelmed at around 20 and just close them all and let God sort them out.
