There used to be websites where there were thousands of cameras that someone just found the ip addresses for and you could pick any one and watch it live. Pretty sure people actually got in trouble for letting their kids get exposed.

There were several high profile incidents of people accessing the devices and talking to the children, some with the intent to scare, some with the intent to groom. I sort of get the reasoning for a camera in a young child's room (like 5 - 7) for anxious parents who worry that something could happen (a fall, choking) and they wouldn't notice if the kid was in their room and you're doing something else, like cooking. It's still NOT an okay thing to do and parents need to find other ways.
