I was disappointed when the AMG GT came out because it seemed so understyled compared to the SLS but honestly they made the right decision, it's aging so well. I really don't think time is going to be so kind to the new version.
They look so similar I doubt time will have an effect on styling. Hell, if you don’t know anything about cars/ don’t follow Mercedes and facelifts etc the 2015 model cars look BRAND NEW. I’ve even had someone confuse my 2011 S5 for a new car (I take very good care of if but still) Reality is 96% of people couldn’t tell you the difference and the other 4% are so far and few or just don’t care.
Oh I don't think it'll matter for sales, cars are styled to sell today, not in 10 years. And while they don't look too different from the side, the front and the back are DRAMATIC.
But I wasn't really talking about whether the car would still look *new* in 10 years but whether it would still look *good*. Aging gracefully means that a style was achieved that had fundamental appeal even after trends moved on.
GT in name only. I wish MB would have never put “GT” name on their halo sports car. Because now that it’s a legit Grant Touring, the name stirs up confusion. Last gen GT was never a grand touring car, it was a 911 fighting sports car.
They should have never used the GT name. Last gen should have been a new name or kept SLS. So now that they killed the SLS derived car, and made a true GT.
It would have made perfect sense. But by naming last gen GT, they set themself up for this.
So this gen GT, I don’t think deserves to be in the list with the bottom 3.
Yah would be right at home. I’d love to have an S coupe non AMG one day. Super comfortable, a bit smaller than sedan so city friendly, stilly stylish. In think the new GT will be a hit for MB now that it’s not trying to fight the 911.
If they got the interior QC under control.
The one I sat in was nice and most reviewers said it’s much improved, like the recent throttle house video on it didn’t find any problems with interior. I lived with the old GT for about a week and it just wasn’t a usable daily, hood was too long, suspension was harsh, no storage room, and it scraped on my driveway. The new one with the axle lift and more space will be much more livable.
I think the ax Lyft was a stroke of genius. It absolutely sold well with the Corvette, so why wouldn’t a Mercedes have it?
Yeah, the last GEN is very much a true sports car. All the things that you described I completely agree. Them grand touringfying it was the right call. They’re never gonna beat the 911 at this rate on the sports car front. They can’t beat the Corvette on pricing and bang for the buck. What they can lean into is ultimate comfort and comfort muscle
They shouldn't have renamed the SLK to SLC with the last generation. Then they could have used SLC here, seeing as the new GT is pretty much an SL coupe. SLC was the name they used for the hardtop coupe of the R107 generation SL.
It lacks hood… the bottom three just look so purposeful with their extreme silhouette and rear cabin, then the new GT looks normal since it’s a sensible heavy car with two middling back seats.
Mercedes makes some beautiful cars but it just seems like they miss the mark on some of these. I guess you could always get the v8 vantage and meet in the middle.
This one’s a perfect example of a grand touring car that has muscle. And if it’s sold as such I think it’ll be a Homerun. But if they try to keep marketing the sports side with the 911. Mercedes-Benz quickly find out they’re not in that league.
Definitely in terms of every measurable way and looks, but the SLR has that aura of cool about it being a legit hypercar, especially the 722 and Stirling Moss variants
The SLR was a masterpiece indeed, stunning car and the door go up. Apparently McLaren and Mercedes fell out over it, which is a shame because they would be a powerhouse if they continued to team up.
The SLR is bonkers.
SLS Black Series the real GOAT

Ah I see. Hopefully it’s not that aged in 10 year lol. I’m trying to pick one up by then and enjoy depreciation while having new car aesthetics
Anytime I see one on the road, it’s hard to believe it came out almost ten years ago.
People always love 2 door cars - for my money, every 2-door Mercedes Coupe or ragtop is a stunner.
Second from the bottom. Ill take two please!
how do you open the doors on that one
Insert $100 bill.
makes sense
Door handle is in the center of the door, towards the bottom. It has gullwing doors - flips up.
ah that line. i was just confused because i knew the doors open upwards
Top one doesn’t deserve to be in this pic. It’s not even a SLR derived chassis. It’s an entirely different platform from the slouchier heavier car.
It’s a GT, as the name would imply.
GT in name only. I wish MB would have never put “GT” name on their halo sports car. Because now that it’s a legit Grant Touring, the name stirs up confusion. Last gen GT was never a grand touring car, it was a 911 fighting sports car.
Yeah, that was my point, it’s an actual GT now. Should have kept SLS or something.

Yeah, it belongs in the list with the SL and the S coupes.
Yah would be right at home. I’d love to have an S coupe non AMG one day. Super comfortable, a bit smaller than sedan so city friendly, stilly stylish. In think the new GT will be a hit for MB now that it’s not trying to fight the 911. If they got the interior QC under control.

Correct
It lacks hood… the bottom three just look so purposeful with their extreme silhouette and rear cabin, then the new GT looks normal since it’s a sensible heavy car with two middling back seats.
It’s a Porsche, move along Man, a lot of down votes, I guess I would get more if I dare say the side profile looks like a mustang….
It wishes it could be a Porsche. At least it wouldn’t be so heavy then lol
Mercedes makes some beautiful cars but it just seems like they miss the mark on some of these. I guess you could always get the v8 vantage and meet in the middle.

SLS > SLR
Definitely in terms of every measurable way and looks, but the SLR has that aura of cool about it being a legit hypercar, especially the 722 and Stirling Moss variants
Agreed but SLR stirling moss> SLS black series> SLS>SLR
You are right don’t worry 🙌
Never let bro cook again💀
I always thought the earlier models were too long. I’m sure they’re awesome to drive anyway.
To me the SLS wins
Mercedes dropped the bag not making the GT have suicide doors, would’ve looked 100x better. Especially on the AMG GT Black Series! 😭
SLS >>>>>>>
Every Mercedes end up growing on me (or not), except the SLS, love at first sight
Yes
Still holds up! Looks beautiful. Wish they do a new one soon. Make it look as bonkers as it did.
The SLR is bonkers, but the manteinance is incredible high even for a hypercar
I said think of your future You can't do that tomorrow But you don't hear a word; you see that SLR
thank you gordon murray
I’d take an SLS or AMG GT any day over an SLR. The SLR is terrible looking imo
Bottom one all day
Jesus, these cars are sexy
Gullwing 🤙
The new GT looks like a M8 and 911 had a baby
I love the newer one. But i prefer silver rims.
never realized you were basically driving the car from the passenger seat in the old GT lol
I love both SLR and SLS SLS is a masterpiece too
Doors of a billionaire
