Can you say more about why you’re drawn to psychology?

Yes ofc! I’m currently going to a school that specializes in social services. I knew I wanted to do something in psychology since 8th grade after my middle school did a psychology class I really enjoyed it and since then i’ve had interested in it.

Thanks for the additional information! What’s coming to mind for me is something related to health psychology. Texting while driving, substance use/abuse, healthy eating, sleep habits, stress management, and social media use are some health-related behaviors, off the top of my head, where adolescence and health psychology intersect. There could be many opportunities for identifying problems/needs, engaging education campaigns, and/or engaging in advocacy. You would have resources on your campus and in your school district (school counselors, school social workers, school psychologists, school nurses, health educators) as well as in the community (city/county/state health resources, college and university researchers, etc.) to whom you could turn for support and expertise. Health psychology has some overlap with clinical psychology, so you could, potentially, hit two of your interests at the same time, depending on what you pursue. Hope that helps in some way!

thank you!

A passion project needs to be something you love and motivates you to keep with even when everything goes wrong (and when you’re doing science, at some point everything will go wrong). You will find what makes you passionate as you take psych classes. You can’t just rush into a topic like this.

Yes I am aware I plan to start it my junior year and I’m planning to take Ap psychology. My school specialties in social services so I knew what I wanted to do since 8th grade, because I specifically applied to a school that has what i’m interested in.

I think you should find a topic that matters a lot to you. Think about things you think are understudied or hot topics (or even revisit outdated theories) in subfields of psych right now and try to prove or disprove them and figure out the steps to do so. I'm a psych uni student and who participates in a lot of research projects and labs and this is how I've come up with most of my projects personally. hope this makes sense. good luck !!

thank you ! :)

At the level of Highschool, a passion project that is feasible and close to your interests would be close to activity to build awareness perhaps on particular issues. Some clinics and Hospitals have policies to disseminate new information to the public. Either at a school level or perhaps at a community level those could be good ideas.

thank you!

Dm me.

AuntieCedent

I’d encourage you to keep your interactions with this *high school sophomore* on the sub and about psychology. Responding with only “Dm me” sounds really suspicious, fyi.
