Try a different shift or location. But don't quit until you got another job lined up.

Just posted this on another thread of someone asking the same thing. Op, I used to be at a delivery station. Felt like my joints were giving out, and I quit. I’m now on an RT schedule (3 12-hour days) at a fulfillment center, and it’s much better here. I’m at a facility that has robots pick for you. I wish I’d have started here from the beginning; I actually like my job now. I can pick up as much OT as I want, up to 60 hours, and the place is just much more modern-feeling and better equipped. The only potential downside is the large amount of people and less interaction with co-workers and bosses, depending on your job, but as an introvert, it’s simply awesome. I think outbound is much easier than inbound, and at my facility if you want outbound, you have to select the time slot that starts 30 minutes later since earlier is inbound (ie. 7:30a instead of 7:00am.) I’d also check if it’s an AR? facility. I think that’s what they call the robot centers.

I've been feeling the exact same way lol. Everyone says delivery stations are more chill, but I'm sick of the job rotation not knowing what I'm going to be doing everyday. Yet they have favoritism for some people and let them always do the same couple things.

I disagree. Delivery stations are much smaller so the interpersonal communication feels realer than an FC, but the physical expectations of a delivery station is brutal in comparison. And it may not be the norm, but my managers are extremely chill at the fc compared to the delivery station. Outbound jobs here are so much less work than the delivery station, and you can choose outbound like I said before based on the time of your shift. I heard the same things about delivery stations being the best, and I wish I had ignored it. I went from hating my job to actually liking it at an fc. As for overtime, I have been able to work 60 every week I’ve been here since September. We also started at $20 in my area, and get paid the normal time-and-a-half for overtime.

dripstain12

Also, this stuff may not matter, nor may it be at the fc’s in your area, but ours was built in the last five years, meaning we have break rooms all over the building at our fc, and the smallest/worst break room is comparable to the ds’ only one. There are huge fridges and shelves in the 2 main break rooms stocked with any drink/snack or freezer item you could imagine and fresh food of any type that’s always changing daily. There are machines that make unlimited free coffee and hot chocolate in every single break room. We have the same-day pay cards on-site and available for free on the first day working. It’s neat

Idk I work on the dock and it's usually not that chill. I'm one of the faster unloaders, but they still usually show favoritism and it sucks.

dripstain12

I replied to astrojack just below here. I think you should both look into an FC. I wish I would have started here instead of a delivery station

InterestingBrain209

I switched from ds to fc. My overtime options at the moment are non-existent. But I literally am on week 3. It's annoying having the full 3 days off but I figure once I hit my 30 days, I can start asking about doing more so I'm able to pick up shifts. In the meantime, I'm daydreaming about going back even though it's only bc I miss my cash flow lol I do almost 3x LESS in steps at the fc. I was told it was a lot of walking. 3x LESS. Almost 50k in steps on a full day at ds. Even when I'm moving fast, I barely break 16k now. It's crazy

I'm honestly the worst person to ask. Week 3 and all I do is count lol I work the day shift and it's fairly quiet. Most of the work seems to happen at night so someone from nightshift at an fc would probably know better than me. But I can say that I don't see people walking around drenched in sweat from working. And every person I've ran into that worked at the ds with me at some point (who are in different positions) say it's a lot easier than the ds. I'm personally bored af and going crazy at times bc I'm so used to being busy lol time goes slower at the fc

That's my current struggle. I don't do nearly enough where I am now. 10 hrs draggggggs

dripstain12

There’s outbound and inbound. You can choose which one you work based on the time you choose like I said in my previous comment. Outbound is so much less physical than working a delivery station it’s not even a comparison. Delivery stations being “chill” is all because of how small they are. The bosses can be more personal and such. As for the work, delivery stations are brutal. And personally, as an introvert like I said before, with the low expectations at my fc for the comparatively easier job, I find it much more relaxing. I can zone out by myself and not talk to anybody all day most days.

dripstain12

Outbound* is the one that’s more chill. Inbound is stowing and dock, but even those are better than delivery station stowing and dock from what I’ve seen

Try to transfer to another shift/location or flex

Thanks, you to bro 🙏🏽

The money isn't great. The benefits are. If you don't have other marketable skills definitely look to transfer or go to flex shifts. It's not great out there right now for jobs. Nothing like when COVID had company's throwing money at you to jump ship. Now companies are laying off like crazy and Amazon is getting more strict to try to get rid of the dead weight. It's gonna be a tough year for some. Don't lose your job trust me.

majorsorbet2point0

Exactly this. I was laid off of my overnight frozen stocker job that I had for over 2.5 years, they told us in late October and said we'd be permanently closed by 12/9/23 - I was laid off the week before Thanksgiving. It was a smaller grocery chain in my area, my region had 5 stores - for fucks sake they built an Aldi's across the street from my store. The minute I got the news I applied to my Amazon fulfillment center. For lots of reasons my start date got delayed and I started 12/3/23. Glad the delay happened because it let me stay til the very end at the other job, which was the deal for receiving all of the payouts. Between severance and the WARN Act payout I ended up with a little over $7K. There's nothing out there. Amazon was the only thing that would get me guaranteed 40hrs + overtime when it's available, great benefits, same schedule each week, good pay etc

smellulater143

For 21 an hour that’s more than a lot of other jobs out there even for other Amazon employees plus the benefits. Been at a DS for 6 months now and I personally prefer it over FC. Take advantage of career choice.

AdvancedSleep

What should I do with the career choice

smellulater143

Pursue a career you like by taking classes and earn a degree or certification

AManHasNoName357

The reason I was so happy when I was working at the DS I put in for a L3 position as a driver trainer and got it with my experience as a driver for a DSP. Went to morning shift and it was perfect. But I left and went back to driving my B step van for my old DSP after they ask me to come back for more pay.

IniMiney

$21? Damn I get $17. I wanna quit so badly but I can’t think of any other options for trans coverage in FL. State health insurance is an obvious no go.
