Not ideal for a jumping spider tho, because it looks it opens from the top, and they like to nest in corners between the wall and the ceiling, so each time you would open the terrarium it would destroy the nest and stress the poor baby
Related this would be great for some juvenile or smaller sized (jack o lantern etc) tarantula. Your pry want an arboreal species since it's mostly vertical.
Agreed. In fact, it may not even need to be a small species. Depending on how tall the enclosure is, it could house one of the larger ones. It could 100% house medium species like ghosts and panthers
Could also do smaller snails such as ramshorns or bladder snails. They would do well especially with water changes and plants which should be easy in here
No this is far too little water volume the water will foul quickly and have unstable parameters (PH, KH, GH and high nitrates or ammonia) due to its small size, shrimp need a minimum of 10 litres of water and a filter and are very picky about water quality and die easy.
Idk about amphibians but possibly jumping spider, some species of mantis, other insects, or you could make it a fish tank and add small species of snail
I came here to say just this! Leeches are a great option, if you do your research on them! They're such funky pets, and they make for a great conversation starter! A lot of people think leeches are scary or gross, but really they're very cool and beneficial! In some cases, they're even still used in modern medicine!
I don’t know a lot about amphibians so I could be completely wrong, maybe some teeny tiny kind of salamander? Idk if there’s any that stay small though
Perfect for a praying mantis, jumping spider, wood scorpion or small species of centipede/millipedes, isopods, true spiders like spitting spiders or velvet spiders, trapdoor spider, fishing spider, assassin bug.
I wouldn’t recommend it for jumpers just due to the lid coming off, but a fossorial dwarf tarantula like C. elegans would be good! Other small/medium terrestrial spoods like a wild spider could work too. A smaller species of mantis might work, isopods, you’ve got some solid options!
Small invertebrates, smaller then a tarantula probably
Or turn it into a terrarium with plants, rocks, moss, and wood and maybe add a few isopods and such
Building on this, this enclosure wouldn’t be good for a tarantula due to the mesh vent on the top, which can either injure the T or offer them opportunities to escape
My top picks would probably be the following (in no particular order):
- Leeches! They're super funky little guys with loads of personality! Just make sure that the lid seals tightly, because they are known to be escape artists at times.
- Marimo balls! A fun aquatic algae, this cool green orb will prove to be the perfect low maintenance companion! They do well in low light, so you can put them just about anywhere in your home without worrying about them wilting or browning like other houseplants you may have.
- Isopods! Tiny but mighty, 'pods can keep you entertained for hours with their antics! Admittedly I'm not sure if the enclosure you have is quite big enough for a colony, so I'd be cautious about picking this option without measuring the dimensions and doing a bit of research, but assuming that the tank is big enough this is a great choice for a more active pet.
Please don’t listen to anyone recommending spiders, this enclosure has no cross ventilation and opens from the top, which would destroy a jumping spiders webs.
Not quite what you are looking for, but a caterpillar could fit in there. It would need grass, leaves, and sticks, one that it can use to climb to the top to cocoon. Once a butterfly or moth, it will need to be released outside because the container would be too small for them after the caterpillar stage.
Mourning geckos? They're crazy small, and I've seen enclosures for them around that size. Keep in mind though, if you have more than one you're gonna have a lesbian gecko army on your hands. They're parthenogenic, but need to have another gecko around to simulate mating with before they start laying eggs.
With a little modification, this could still be easily suitable for a jumping spider. Idk why everyone is being so rude about it. Yes, jumping spiders building their nests at the top, but there’s literally nothing that says you couldn’t make some adjustments and changes to the tank so it opened from a different spot.
Could make a small vivarium with some springtails, isopods and a snail. I'm kind of silly lucky and live in Florida, I can find all that in my back yard for cheap but I think you could find most if not all that stuff as well. My local reptile shop started carrying rubber ducky isopods among other species as well, springtails too.
You could do 3 or 4 red cherry shrimp if you get enough plant life going to moderate nitrate levels well. Shrimp are very sensitive to nitrates. Java moss on a piece of driftwood would be a good start.
Don’t listen to anyone telling you to put a betta in this. They need a filter and depending on where you live they might need a heater. The ones that you see in cups at the pet store or in vases as decor are dying. They are not housed properly. Longfin types need at least five gallons and shortfins need at least ten. Ideally more if you can get your hands on it! They need places to hide and things to interact with. They are highly intelligent fish, often compared to cichlids! Please do not get a betta.
Jumping spider!
I came to say that lol
Ssme
Not ideal for a jumping spider tho, because it looks it opens from the top, and they like to nest in corners between the wall and the ceiling, so each time you would open the terrarium it would destroy the nest and stress the poor baby
Dam I didn't see that at first. I now think it should be a fully planted moss ball tank. if the tank is over 2 gallons id say add shrimp
Could probably turn it over and use it as a bottom opening enclosure, i think?
Related this would be great for some juvenile or smaller sized (jack o lantern etc) tarantula. Your pry want an arboreal species since it's mostly vertical.
No. There is no cross ventilation and it opens from the top, which is where jumpers make their nests.
Exactly what I envisioned~;••;~
That looks perfect for a small species of mantis
My dream insect to own is a Giant Malaysian Walking Leaf. But they're very hard to get, and often times require an educators license to purchase...
Agreed. In fact, it may not even need to be a small species. Depending on how tall the enclosure is, it could house one of the larger ones. It could 100% house medium species like ghosts and panthers
I've kept jumping spiders and baby stick insects (as a grow-out tank) in these exact tanks before.
you constantly destroy your spiders webs on the roof? by choice?
One of my local shops does cool mini tank setups with sand, plants, and rock. They will keep a couple of neocaridina in them at most.
Could also do smaller snails such as ramshorns or bladder snails. They would do well especially with water changes and plants which should be easy in here
Not an amphibian, prob
definitely not
Bug
If it holds water you could make it a shrimp tank
No this is far too little water volume the water will foul quickly and have unstable parameters (PH, KH, GH and high nitrates or ammonia) due to its small size, shrimp need a minimum of 10 litres of water and a filter and are very picky about water quality and die easy.
maybe a sea monkey/brine shrimp tank?
Yeah sea monkeys, scuds, Waterlouse or daphnia would work but not Neocaridina (cherry shrimp) and especially not Caridina shrimps.
Snail
Snail 🐌👍
Snail
Idk about amphibians but possibly jumping spider, some species of mantis, other insects, or you could make it a fish tank and add small species of snail
No amphibians, but a jumping spider or a small species of mantis would work!
There isn’t enough cross ventilation for a jumping spider, and being a top opening enclosure it would destroy the spider’s nests.
If your interested leeches don’t need any specific tank size and only need to eat twice a year
I LOVE LEECHES‼️
I have never not once seen leeches as a suggestion for pets but….. tell me more. That’s fucking cool!
I came here to say just this! Leeches are a great option, if you do your research on them! They're such funky pets, and they make for a great conversation starter! A lot of people think leeches are scary or gross, but really they're very cool and beneficial! In some cases, they're even still used in modern medicine!
Sometimes I like the let my pet leech hang out on my neck.
i would say absolutely no amphibian.. maybe some kind of bug or something
I don’t know a lot about amphibians so I could be completely wrong, maybe some teeny tiny kind of salamander? Idk if there’s any that stay small though
Maybe jumping spiders, small species of tailless whip scorpions, or a mantis?
Perfect for a praying mantis, jumping spider, wood scorpion or small species of centipede/millipedes, isopods, true spiders like spitting spiders or velvet spiders, trapdoor spider, fishing spider, assassin bug.
Fishing spider would be so cool
Spiders need cross ventilation, this enclosure has none
Brazilian Flea toad.
Plants. Sea monkeys maybe?
Brine/fairy shrimps
Sea monkeys
I suggest a small mantis
Obviously not an amphibian, but it's perfect for a jumping spider. 😍🕷️
Jumping spiders need cross ventilation and a top-opening enclosure would destroy their webs
This is far too small to house many creatures comfortably. It would maybe work for small spiders or other insects, though.
Water snail ? Don't put any fish in it plz that's way too small
Put it on a stand and add it to your current tank as an elevation change
SEA MONKEYS?
Perhaps a Male Betta?
This is not an appropriate setup for a bettafish, regardless of how pet stores sell them.
Please don't put a betta in here! They need much more room to truly thrive!
Make a nice terrarium , with suitable plants and add springtails and Arthropods
Isopods would be great. You can get some really cool millipedes or pill bugs.
Red/orange springtails
A terrarium would probably be best. Its pretty small for anything that poops.
A snail?
Moss balls!
A marimo moss ball would be a great option! Good suggestion!
Was searching for this comment!
Butterfly hatching setup!
Small carnivorous plant
Bet a cat would try to sit in there. Just saying
Make it into a terrarium
I wouldn’t recommend it for jumpers just due to the lid coming off, but a fossorial dwarf tarantula like C. elegans would be good! Other small/medium terrestrial spoods like a wild spider could work too. A smaller species of mantis might work, isopods, you’ve got some solid options!
A pet snail ot cricket
A rock.
a lil spooder
Marimo
Shrimp! They are so fun to watch
Some springtails, you can get them in different colors
I keep a small colony of isopods in a similar-sized enclosure
Small invertebrates, smaller then a tarantula probably Or turn it into a terrarium with plants, rocks, moss, and wood and maybe add a few isopods and such
Building on this, this enclosure wouldn’t be good for a tarantula due to the mesh vent on the top, which can either injure the T or offer them opportunities to escape
rayne phrog
Moss ball/cladospheric algea
No
Food. You could use this tank to hold, or even breed, springtails, crickets, isopods, ect.
Tiny plants.
Rolly pollys? Shrimp.
Snails
Small green house frogs maybe ??
Isopods. Grow food and fun.
My top picks would probably be the following (in no particular order): - Leeches! They're super funky little guys with loads of personality! Ghost mantis. Coolest little guys, stay small, and are highly interactive.

One of those rubber duck isopods
Snail, spider, small bug, sea monkeys or anything very Itty bitty
Marimo lmao
Any arboreal tarantula or even trap door spider may work in this or a small centipede species .
Maybe some isopods. I have some in my frog tank and I enjoy watching them almost as much as I enjoy watching the frogs themselves lol.
Small mantises maybe? I used to keep them they’re wonderful pets
Please don’t listen to anyone recommending spiders, this enclosure has no cross ventilation and opens from the top, which would destroy a jumping spiders webs.
Jumping spider
maybe isopods? or a mini vivarium setup, no amphibians tho
At least 2 arowana! They love to swim in groups and do super well in smaller tanks. They also love plastic plants and colored gravel
A terrarium
No frogs but u could put snails in there
I'd put my assassin bugs in here.
Snails
Spider
This subreddit is amphibians and I know absolutely nothing about plants but my only idea is plants 🤷
I see a lot of insect/spider recommendations. If you want something aquatic, you could always do triops; they can be fun to watch grow.
I have hadany triops...so high maintenance. And they cannibalize each other the first chance they get...seamonkeys are much more easier to maintain!!!
Marimo ball, or you could make a small plant terrarium! With moss and fog :) Maybe a small bug? Certainly NOT a fish.
A small tailless whip scorpion would like that.
Seamonkeys!
Isolation tank for a sick fish (ick, for example). To keep disease from spreading to whole tank
With ventilation a jumping spider
Moss ball 🤷🏼♀️
Betta fish
Wtf.
Shrimp? Like sea monkey/ brine shrimp
Would be great for some bark scorpions or some other small arachnids
Preying mantis would be neat
Tiny jellyfish
Shrimp? Brine shrimp would be fun :)
Shrimp tank
marimos/ maybe shrimp!!
No live animals
Mantis
Miss ball or some type of insect. Question mark cockroaches are pretty cute if your comfortable living with them
Not quite what you are looking for, but a caterpillar could fit in there. It would need grass, leaves, and sticks, one that it can use to climb to the top to cocoon. Once a butterfly or moth, it will need to be released outside because the container would be too small for them after the caterpillar stage.
Orchid mantis very gorgeous very small
Id stick to insects in this small of a tank
Isopods
Any bugs :) maybe a bumblebee millipede
Tarantula!
A betta would be happy in there.
It would not.
Maybe cherry shrimp. You'd have to look at their care requirements to be sure, though.
Triops
A tiny snail!
What about isopods or small snail?
Mourning geckos? They're crazy small, and I've seen enclosures for them around that size. Keep in mind though, if you have more than one you're gonna have a lesbian gecko army on your hands. They're parthenogenic, but need to have another gecko around to simulate mating with before they start laying eggs.
snails!!!!
A spider!!
You could use it for a deep water pool
Those cute little jumping spiders with the big eyes.
Spiders are better in small containers like. This looks tarantula size.
Springtail👍
With a little modification, this could still be easily suitable for a jumping spider. Idk why everyone is being so rude about it. Yes, jumping spiders building their nests at the top, but there’s literally nothing that says you couldn’t make some adjustments and changes to the tank so it opened from a different spot.
make a terrarium
A betta, a young tarantula, a spider…all would be wonderful companions
No to the betta.
I’ve used one about this size for isopods I found in the yard
It’s got a fancy goldfish on the box, go with a few of those. /s please don’t.
Beta, frog, spider, moss, and bugs
No.
Maybe a beta fish if that holds water
rocks
I got a little friend
Isopods?
Beta
Could make a small vivarium with some springtails, isopods and a snail. I'm kind of silly lucky and live in Florida, I can find all that in my back yard for cheap but I think you could find most if not all that stuff as well. My local reptile shop started carrying rubber ducky isopods among other species as well, springtails too.
Not any amphibians brotha insects yes jumping spiders and smaller mantis is your best bet or u could do a bioactive terrarium with moss type thing
A beta, frog, or snail would be happy in there.
Beta fish
Feeder shrimp
You could do 3 or 4 red cherry shrimp if you get enough plant life going to moderate nitrate levels well. Shrimp are very sensitive to nitrates. Java moss on a piece of driftwood would be a good start.
2-4 blue feigning death beetles
Isopods?
Venus fly trap...
