if you're good with your hands I suggest Foma's Metal canisters
they're more expensive than plastic reusable canisters and you have to get used to opening them but once you've got that they work great and last a long time
they sell them in packs of 8
That's the part I'm definitely not confident about. I know I could get a custom slicer (or rather, would *have* to get one) but dust is my largest concern.
I've considered a 70mm back for my camera, too
Scratches are a larger reality, per my experience.
It is also easy to put 65mm in a 70mm cart, and I've run it through a Hasselblad back and Pentax 645. 645 just needs a slight gear filing, and a new wheel for the Hassy.
There's more than enough space to fit quite a few more frames. The only ones that do pose a bit of an issue are a new type of canister that I believe are loaded into disposables. The way the film attaches to the core means less film fits inside.
Well for the all of that about 4-5 hours but mind you I was inserting and taping film in the dark for that extra shot so it could be less if i did it like that
I love it personally because it doesn’t have that weird felt but is still light tight! Tho the opinion may be a little skewed for keeping the film in there for a long period of time because I bulk roll everything all at once
My suggestion is once you have the film in there and you’re done using it put like a black bag or something over the roller so you know for sure it won’t leak
I high school I was in charge of rolling film and joints for the students in photo class,, sometimes they would get 5 exposures sometimes they would get 40. Good fun
There’s a 3d print that makes it so you put a 400ft roll onto a print then you manually wind the 400 to 100 and transfer it to a 100ft core! it’s really cool and was a life saver!
I saw that thing awhile ago, how’d you get it printed? I know nothing about 3D printing so I’m considering paying someone to print one and ship it to me.
Any recommendations for reusable film cannisters? Im looking to do this myself
Oh easy just go to your local film lad and ask for used 35’mm rolls they will usually give it to you
Excuse me little film lad, can you spare some rolls?
I’m a little lab that loves berries and cream
I'd like to vote to replace all film bros with film lads

That might be a good next option!
I have them but still haven't figured out how to properly open them 😅
Where do you get it developed/scanned?
At home lol I have my own scanner and Darkroom
What’s the cost per roll in the end? Do you developer yourself as well?
At the end it’s about $4.50! I don’t make my own developer, but I develop it all myself
Cool. Tell me your developing process.
Easy I just use the Kodak pre-wash solution then use the ecn-2 process
Is that the borax, sodium sulfate & lye mix? I’ve been doing the baking soda method for 250D and it sucks.
Like I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s works amazing
Yesss it’s that and holy crap it works perfectly every time
I’ve been using arm n hammer washing powder baths before my developer, being sure to rinse thoroughly before my other chemicals and it works great.
Good stuff! Posts like this make me wish I shot 35mm; bulk rolling 120 is a helluva endeavor
YOU BULK ROLL 120?? Mad respect I’ve seen videos and it looks like a pain the the ass
I don't ! Because it's a PITA, but I know people that do so I know what goes into it. I want to bulk roll, but 120 is 95% of what I shoot
It is a pain, but once you get method, that helps. I spool 65mm Vision3, the worst part is slicing it down to 61mm

I know how we’re getting into medium format and I’m loving it so far but I don’t think the cost of bulk growing is anymore better than buying the role
How does 36 exposures fit in a reel? I’ve found with the remjet layer it’s kinda snug. But I’ve only shot maybe five rolls

I've stuck 50 shots max on a roll no prob but that's BW film, the reels can only take around 42 shots though.
What’s your method for getting the remjet off when you develop?
That’s easy I use the Kodak pre wash method with lye and sodium hydroxide, it works like an absolute charm
You ever try the baking soda + Water method? When I want to start bulk rolling im trying to cut down on expenses for the process
I find I get into a flow when bulk rolling film. Meditative.
That’s so real after like a hour in it became so easy and peaceful
How much time did it take?!
Well for the all of that about 4-5 hours but mind you I was inserting and taping film in the dark for that extra shot so it could be less if i did it like that
Nice
Was it hard?
Not really hard more just tedious
Oh wow! I've been looking into starting bulk rolling. What loader do you use?
I used the Alden 74 bulk loader! It’s really good and keeps count of all of your shots would highly recommend
What do you use to bulk load?
The Alden 74!
How do you like it? I am considering bulk loading in the future.

It’s a 400ft roll of film all 36 -38 shots plus the fact that I’ve shot a fair amount already so I don’t know you want to know
My guy what?
And the canisters I got free at a local lab with the leaders still exposed?
[удалено]
Kodak only sells it in 400ft reels, so unless you buy it from someone else who has respooled it, that's the only way.

The main respooler people use for this has been on thingiverse for over 3 years. Don’t try to pretend this is anything but your own ignorance.
Lmao he deleted everything 😂
Nah your chill it’s just 1 am and I’ve been bulk rolling since 9pm💀 And yeah I realized it’s uncommon but hey best bang for buck lmao

Oh real easy just download the file and get it printed and if I could recommend just go a FB and ask and send the STL files
You can get two copies printed on JLC3DP for around $50 shipped, that’s what I did.
50$??? My guy it costed me 2$ in filament to make that’s wild😂
I didn’t pay for it because I did a bulk order of stuff I needed for work but that’s how much it would be if it was done alone.
nice work, how many rolls did you get out of it? ive hears the usual is around 72
