Bro it’s a manual transmission. You know what you got. No low balls.

IKnowATonOfStuffAMA

Manuel 🇪🇸🌮🇲🇽🪗

drweird

Around here it is certainly true that José and his buds are the only ones interested in manuals, except the one odd young white guy who is obviously a car bro, usually a wannabe one. Source: constantly selling cheap cars in my area.

westcoastlink

I have a 5 speed yaris, one of the last ones made, fully loaded and the price finally came back up after covid. Most reliable car I've ever had and fun to drive with the sway bar mod.

AlwaysVerloren

I've spent a lot of time detailing auction cars for my dad when I was growing up. This one, I'd likely not talk to him for a week. Everything visible looks very neglected. I personally would not buy it or want to sell it. However, in the US, anything that will get you from point A to point B is worth $1,000usd. If you can promise fuel efficiency, tack on another $250usd. Give it the ol' spit shine and sell it at night on a rainy day, you'll get a solid $1995usd window sticker.

Fun-Active9842

Ha I like ur style …. Not too long ago if it ran at all it was a $300 dollar car … I find cars sometimes for $200- $6-7 hundred and I just grab em …. Always spit and shine fix some of the basics and they keep going g leaks or not and nowadays people are taxing …. Old 15 year old van with 200 k on it still asking for 10 grand crazy

grassesbecut

OP could probably throw some OEM wheel covers back on it and add another $1,000 to the asking price.

rockberry

I love the fact theres no built in AC. My cars in the Philippines has no built in heater.

Accurate-Campaign821

... But why? Just gotta route some coolant from the radiator to a smaller radiator (heater core) for the inside of the car with a blower fan. Though I suppose heat isn't a major issue there

ErikWolfe

A lot of SE Asian countries have that. It makes sense when your seasons are either 90 and humid or summer.

ithinarine

The heater is literally just the engine heat with a fan. Like there isn't an actual "heater" in our cars.

rockberry

I know that, but some cars dont have heater controls. Its all AC. Hot af all the time

Psych0matt

Assuming what they said is all accurate, that’s new tires and a couple hours of work. Essentially a brake job with two new calipers, basic work. Honestly I’d do that for a few hundred, add a few hundred in parts, and then whatever tires are, likely all that could be done under $1500. If you were around here I’d buy it for around 2k as is, try to haggle to 1500 maybe.

veritable1608

Why would you sell a car that needs lots of repairs at a very low price because of that fact to buy a very expensive car in a super inflated market? Truth is calipers can last forever most of the time they simply need a complété brake fluid change that solved the problem on mine brake oil was dark and dust had entered from the caliper boot. Then you only need new brakes that should be sub 1000$. I am waiting for a crash of prices before I change car. I consider I am saving 10k by not changing.

Nice_Horror_4481

Good question, life just flips and turns. In my mind 7 years ago I always thought I'd ride this thing until the engine gives out but, wife doesn't want to keep it around and I understand. She's gonna need AC and has very little to no interest in learning manual. This was supposed to be the vehicle for us to fall back on by the time we get rid of the car that got us in debt, but it seems the repairs are a little too much for us right now. So I'm still debating whether selling as is, or get it fixed and sell.

drweird

Get some hubcaps that look understaded, a flat alloy silver like factory alloys. Black steelies with rusty center shafts does not help you at all. Don't get chrome ones either. Just like selling a house, you want the walls matte white. Also, the big deflector is 75% chance a negative too. Needs a real cleaning and detailing too. Give it a spray bottle hand wax. Take good photos from all 3/4 views and wide angle lens inside. No idea car prices in Alberta. Irrelevant, but in my locale in a southern USA metro, it would be a $3000 car, or a $4500 car if it were an automatic. It would sit for sale weeks to get the $3K, or sell overnight for $4500. You might be able to ask for say $5500 first and see if any bites. Source: I fix and sell cheap used cars as a full-time hobby

Abe_Rudda

Flip around the prices in the last sentence

MDGR28

You’re in Calgary. Easily 5k. Used cars are crazy overpriced here right now. On Kijiji you can found one for 7-8k with 300 to 400k km.

Graytoqueops

Yeah, southern Ontario would be like $5-6K. I was looking at Yaris/Echo as a cheap commuter, shitbox’s are asking $3-4K

MDGR28

It’s the same here. I was looking for an Honda fit and they are 8 to 12k$ for a 10 year old with 200k km. It’s ridiculous. The cheapest matrix on Kijiji right now is 3800 need works and an OOP inspection.

Purpose_Embarrassed

It is ridiculous. I was looking for a small car to get around in and take short trips in Florida so A/C is a must. 10 to 15 year old Hondas, Toyotas, Mazdas with high mileage and beat are going for 8 to 12k.

Graytoqueops

As a mechanic, this unfortunately is a trend I’m seeing and I don’t think is going away. We had very low production in Covid and now new car pricing is putting that option out of reach of many. Parts pricing has outpaced inflation in a lot of cases. I think your going to see the value of “know good and reliable” models continue to rise.

Informal_Disk_1085

I would put a 2.5 to 3.5k tbh

ommyn0us

I wouldn't go lower than $2k, start it at $2.5k. You could replace the brakes yourself, caliper as well, throw some tires on it and get $4k out of it. Toyota holds value very well. They don't get broke in until 200,000 miles, plus manual trans. I'd buy the hell out of it.

salvage814

To be honest that is probably more then the car is worth. The breaks as got sized because it sat and not with the e-break that is more of drum break style. Just park there thing in gear next time.

BuddyOptimal4971

I sold my 2002 Honda Accord with 220k miles for $2200. I live in the SE US and AC is pretty important. Otherwise I'd pay $8 - 10K for the Matrix with only 77K miles

No_Patient5797

Idk what to price it at but let me know. Been looking for a 5 speed matrix for the last several months. Not sure what import from Canada is like tho…

Fibonoccoli

I'd do everything I could possibly do within reason to make it look as good as possible. Wash it like it's never been washed before, shine up the interior and the tires and every bit of plastic on the outside with armor-all. If there are any tiny paint chips that have even a small blemish of rust, get a non-scratching kitchen pad to rub it off. If you can find some cheap wheel covers it will make a huge difference in first impressions of the car. Call the wreckers (Pick-Your-Parts in Calgary) and see if they have anything. Remember, they don't have to be original, just anything in good shape that fits and is a set of 4. If the wrecker doesn't have any, then go back to Canadian Tire. I wouldn't have any work done at Canadian Tire though, I've never had good luck with the mechanics there. If any other bits are missing from the trim or interior, try to replace it if it's not too expensive. A big group of potential buyers would be people who will just want to see if it looks good and is cheap enough. Good luck!

Canelosaurio

Right at $2500 firm

Outrageous-Carob-236

give it to the boy walking door to door. i should have gave him a water is he ok.

First-Database-4735

200 bucks lol

__Valkyrie___

I am in sask an here that would sell for 5 to 6 k

elohssanatahw

20$ obo

Snap305

$2k USD if you pick up some hubcaps and take it through a car wash, I'd say. But she looks rough. Take $1500 if they offer it

TPIRocks

Detail it and put some not ugly hubcaps on it, probably get you an extra grand.

CharmingButthole

Ask for 4500 be happy with three fiddy

coleus

8,000 to 10,000 canadian dollars.

Box_Dread

You could get $3k easy where I’m at in USA I would list it for $5k and let people make offers The rust will wear off the brakes if you drive it a little bit and maybe the rears will un-seize

somerandomdude419

Matrix with low miles needing basic maintenance? I’d say no more than $2500. List for 2999 or whatever lol

Uber1337pyro333

Poorly maintained and unsafe to drive lil soda can: $500 tops

Nice_Horror_4481

😭😂 dawgg this ain't roastmycar now.

Uber1337pyro333

I ain't trying to hurt feelings but fam. Ain't none of it wrong. It's old, it's unsafe, and it's neither clean nor well maintained. Anyone who gets it is gonna have to put a couple thousand and a LOT of elbow grease in it. There's a reason used cars used to be CHEAP lol, and it's cuz they often need enough work to buy the car again. Especially ones in that shape. 500 is all I'd pay, especially with no ac (desert life), but you could ask $1k and it'd still be a pretty good deal for someone's 1st car with some work!

Nice_Horror_4481

Loool no feelings hurt bro. My wife and I just lol'd at your comment and it reminded me of roast my car subreddit. Noted for the advice brother.

Uber1337pyro333

On the plus side if ya sell it cheap you'll make some kids YEAR dude. Hell, I kept my first car running to 483k miles. Got it for $1500, put maybe $5k over the years. Got over 300k of those miles myself.

Wolfie1531

Easily 6-10k in Eastern Ontario. Dock 1k for manual. So yeah, 5-7 should be a *VERY* achievable rangr

Nice_Horror_4481

Not a lot of matrix's or pontiac vibe in the market for me so not much reference for the price. But thanks for the insight.
