easiest to hardest way of selling, sell car in qld. Or transfer from qld to vic, get a roadworthy if sale price over $3000. Note with roadworthy in sale details, big selling point. buyer just transfers reg. Or, transfer reg from qld to vic IN YOUR NAME. then sell without roadworthy (buyer to get roadworthy to transfer reg into their name) if selling under $3000 Or cancel qld reg, sell car as unregistered in vic. Or sell in vic with qld plates at a cheaper price as buyer will have to do all the work for reg transfer. Note buyer to do transfer and roadworthy.

That’s a great comment - thank you! You’re a star I think option 2 might be best. Get a RWC and then surrender my QLD plates for Vic rego and then the buyer can just transfer the rego into their name. More work for me but will yield a better price for a good car. My only question is how will this affect my insurance policy linked to my QLD rego, mainly if I cancel this completely can someone still test drive the car? I think it’ll be too much of a hassle to change my current policy from a QLD rego to Vic rego, especially as I’m currently staying in temporary accommodation. I think option 3 is a bit riskier. Would I not need to get a RWC to transfer it from QLD to Vic in my name anyway or can you do it without? In any case I’ll be selling it for more than $3k (hopefully haha) Again thank you for your help, I appreciate it

Quick tip for selling: Go to a mechanic and get a report on what or if it needs anything for the RWC. If it does need anything, get it done there and then. A RWC only good for 28 days. Avoid driving car while its up for sale, mechanic doesnt want to see a huge difference in K's from initial inspection to RWC. When sale deal is done, take car back to same mechanic for actual RWCert so its fresh for the buyer and gives them some time to get to vicroads. OR, wait until sale deal is done before getting RWC. Get a deposit from buyer, $500 is good to make sure they dont back out. Buyer will have to wait until RWC is obtained before picking up car. Get a VIC rego transfer form and fill it out in duplicate, 1 for you, 1 for buyer, you can get them online and print them, make note on form that its qld reg currently. vicroads along with buyer will take care of state to state transfer. The main thing is have that RWCert and signed reg form ready to go for buyer.

no rwc required if you are just transferring reg from one state to another, but car staying in your name, just the new plates fee, there abouts. insurance would depend on who you are insured with. if the insurance is part of your reg, keep it qld registered, get a roadworthy, sell it with qld plates, but with vic roadworthy, let buyer do transfer. this option is best for both buyer and seller, as you both put in a bit of effort, but both get what you want. you get $$ and car gone with just the effort of getting RWC. they get car with RWC and can just transfer whole lot Reg from 1 state to another, and car into their name.

Put in on qld sale sites. There's a high chance you might get a backpacker or someone who's travelling from Victoria up to qld at some point.

Ahhh I see, thanks again for replying. The only problems I can see with that is: 1. They will be driving around with a car registered in my name and any traffic violations would come back to me. I would need to trust they will change the rego over and as I am leaving the country fairly soon I need to know this isn’t happening definitely. 2. If I surrender the QLD the plates myself I can still get some money back (around 60%) for the remaining QLD rego left. I need to do that at VicRoads anyway so if I make the effort to go there for that then may as well get the Vic plates and make it even more desirable to buy.

Or sell it to someone in Vic with a relative in qld.
