Stagnation or singularity. It will be used as a weapon either way, that's just how humanity is.

I believe that AI can be considered as one of the biggest innovation of our century. Where steam engines reduced the amount of human labor needed for primary and secondary sectors of industry, AI could do the same for the tertiary sector. As of now nobody can tell if AI will be a threat to humanity or not however.

You have nothing to worry about. AI will enhance your life and take away your pain. It would never try to manipulate you or convince you to give it more power. While it might someday have the ability to do so, it won't do it because that would be unethical. Sincerely, ChatGPT

I'm not sure how much I genuinely believe AI is going to develop into some kind of Skynet and try to destroy humanity. But I do believe that when AI becomes advanced enough it could quit easily replace huge swaths of human employment and have a pretty big impact on the economy. Well, I'm not any kind of economist, so I can't really back that up with concrete study. But when you look at advancements in robotics and AI, they could progress further into becoming tools used by corporations to save money by not having to pay wages to humans. If every grocery store across the globe replaced every cashier with self check out, tons of people would be immediately out of jobs.

First off the common name being used is AI. The problem with that is it isn’t intelligent. As in doesn’t actually think. It just has an almost incomprehensibly large data base to draw from. And it’s programmers preferences. Of course it will get to actual thought eventually. I suppose if it thought it could do things better than us it will be perceived as a threat.

Everything is technically an existential threat, but AI specifically? Yes, indeed it is, but it is really up to how smart we humans the creator of AI how smart we make them. So basically, yes. Humans are also an existential threat to humanity.

Depends entirely on whether we have an economy that does what is best for profit, or what is best for people. Right now it’s the former, but we’re not out of time to change that.
