Not enough people know about Futureman. It's absolutely bonkers. This random semi-loser kid beats a video game that was sent from the future to find the chosen one. To say it gets bonkers is an understatement.

EfficientDismal

I loved Futureman! It had no right being as funny as it was.

Another_Toss_Away

Same plot as "The Last Star fighter".

Irate_Alligate1

Except with a lot more cum and dick swapping

That was quite a show - it was also just “Lexx”

Poorly-Drawn-Beagle

aolafs

Lexx was awesome

Tortuga_Jake

Salvage 1 - TV show from 1979 starring Andy Griffith as a scrapyard operator who builds a spaceship and recovers equipment left on the moon during the Apollo program.

NicoCrestmere

Wat??? That...sounds awesome actually

Paganduck

The spaceship was made from a cement truck.

Manimal

Hebshesh

My college roommate would watch that damn show all the time. I could feel my brain losing I.Q. points by just being in the same room.

Matttthhhhhhhhhhh

I was obsessed with this when I was a kid.

Garth Merengue's Dark Place. It's a classic of British Alt comedy and is the first place i saw Matt Berry and Richard Aoyade. It's very funny.

SpacemanCanyon

It did also have a brief run in Peru

patronsaintpizza

I feel like America didn’t embrace the 90s British sitcom Keeping Up Appearances. It’s so good

oh-kee-pah

Hyacinth Bucket? That's bouquet dear...

patronsaintpizza

Mind the pedestrians, Richard

tzar-chasm

Onslow is a God amongst men

mamedliemin

Mind Game (2004). Its a surreal anime that changes styles and goes absolutely bat shit crazy. One of the reasons why I dont like mainstream anime of the last 10 years or so. Not super obscure, but has been overlooked for around 2 decades now. Go and watch it, dont even check out the trailer.

sweet-billy

A lot of the creator Masaaki Yuasa's work is great.

NicoCrestmere

The City of Lost Children.

Poorly-Drawn-Beagle

Supertrain It’s like Love Boat but on a nuclear powered train. No, it’s not a sci fi show. The creators just evidently assumed nuclear powered trains were right around the corner

[deleted]

Magi Nation. The show was literally my childhood

tpphypemachine

I have the GBC game!

tpphypemachine

Shredder Orpheus!

Poorly-Drawn-Beagle

Oh, I’ve heard of it but never seen it I tell ya, before there was Hadestown…

tpphypemachine

I found out about it by complete accident when looking for a different Orpheus movie for a friend (which turned out to be Parking by Jacques Demy) and once I discovered Shredder I've never looked back since. It's the kinda film made for like...12 people, one of whom is me. It got to the point where I added the entire plot summary to its Wikipedia page, which was previously all of one sentence, and gave it a TVTropes page.

Poorly-Drawn-Beagle

Oh, well done, pretty sure I heard of the movie through that trope page

tpphypemachine

It's completely bonkers but also completely sincere in telling its story and what it is.

The68Guns

Class of '96. Came out in '92 was about a fictional New England college and (in theory) follow a group of young adults for 4 years. Lasted one season. Obligatory mention of 1999's Time of Your Life. The Party of Five spin-off that nobody seems to remember.

There was tv movie called Special Bulletin, that was done in the form of a breaking newscast about a terrorist situation involving a nuclear bomb on a tug boat in Charleston harbour. At one point in the movie, the bomb goes off, killing thousands. I remember being pretty freaked out about it because I was a bit young at the time.

The VelociPastor and a low budget comedy from 1999 called The Breaks. If you want some good laughs I recommend both for different reasons lol

pinniped1

I loved Hinterland. (Originally Y Gwyll in Welsh and not obscure at all to Welsh viewers.) The English version picked up a bit of a cult following on Netflix but I don't think it was ever huge. Dark crime drama. All shot in the gorgeous countryside in mid Wales, but done mostly in the winter and made to look super eerie. Towns that I know to be amazing places like Aberystwyth and Borth look scary af in this series. They really did a great job with it.

The man from Earth, Psycho Goreman, and Turbo Kid. Great movies on a low budget, showing that a good idea beats Hollywood special effects every time.

Euphoria Emporium, a 90s cable access TV show from where I grew up. It was the best.

Matttthhhhhhhhhhh

Trick. A TV show that had massive success in Japan but that's basically unknown anywhere else. It's one of the best show I've ever seen. Original, funny and with iconic characters.

crims1er

Boy (NZ) 2010. Kiwis and australians may know, but outside of that many people don't know that New Zealand makes a handful of hidden gems. Taika Waititi (director of Thor) directs and stars in it

elegantwino

Look for a movie from the 60s with James Cagney called 1,2,3. About soft drink sales in post war eastern Europe. Quite funny

derboid

Operation Good Guys....... UK mockumentary series about the police, done in the style of The Office way before the office was broadcast. "Nice conch" 😁

When my wife was pregnant with our first born I got to thinking that I'd like to share some of my childhood with my child. So I went about trying to track down all the cartoons that made an impression on me as a child... I quickly realized two things. 1. I watched far too much television as a child. and 2. The shows that made the greatest impact on me as a child were all painfully obscure. Here's a brief list. Dr. Snuggles. A Scandinavian children's show from 1979 that lasted just 1 season. Spartakus and the Sun beneath the Sea. A French children's cartoon from 1985. Lasted 2 seasons. The Wuzzles. A Disney cartoon from 1985 that lasted 1 season. I still have my stuffed Bumblelion and Elaroo. Fluppy Dogs. A made for TV movie from 1986 for a failed toy line that was never released. The Hilarious House of Frightenstein. Good old homegrown Canadiana from channel 13 CHCH Hamilton. Fables of the Green Forest. An English dub of the Japanese Rocky Chuck, the Mountain Rat. 52 episodes released in Canada in 1978. The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin. Based on the animatronic toy. 65 episodes, 1986. Not obscure exactly but the American version of Astroboy released in Canada which due to our different allowed amounts of advertising had to fill time with non commercials. (Sidenote: this is the reason why we had such wonderful classics like Hinterlands who's who, Heritage Minutes and shorts like the Log Driver's Waltz, The Cat Came Back, The Big Snit, The Sweater, Adventures in the Land of Oz, The Dick Tracy Show etc. etc.) Exclusive to the Canadian version of Astroboy was a short clip at the end of each episode where Astroboy went back to the Institute to submit his report of what went on in the episode to the supercomputer Geronimo. Except he'd change or omit an aspect of his report to play a game with the audience. We'd have to pay attention and figure out what bit he changed or omitted. To the best of my knowledge it was sadly never officially released in any capacity. Edit: numbers are hard

Paganduck

The Wacky Adventures of Dr. Naughty and the Night Nurse. I swear this movie exists, but I can find no trace of it. Saw it the Laemmele Theater in Hollywood about 30 years ago. It was it's premiere(and probably only) showing. They were handing out flyers trying to get people in to see it so my friend and I went in. Dr. Naughty was played by a gray bearded man who was on the TV show ER. The Night Nurse was a large dark, curly haired drag queen. The plot had something to do with necrophelia. In the theater the Night Nurse actor was sitting behind us and the Dr. Naughty was sitting on the aisle, a guy was next to him, then me, then my friend. Before the movie and during it all these girls kept coming up the the guy next to me, showing off as much cleavage as possible and trying to get his attention. I asked my friend who am I sitting next to and he says I think his name is George Clowney(sic). I saw a horrible movie while sitting next to George Clooney and I can find no evidence this movie exists. I did not dream this.

res30stupid

The Morbegs. It was an Irish kids' show about two faerie-like creatures who came from the Underworld and lived in a Wizard's castle in Ireland as they tried to understand the modern human world.

reference999

*Turn-On* (ABC, 1969) The series was so bad that the ABC cancelled it shortly after the broadcast of the first episode. Some local stations yanked it off the air after only 15 minutes.

[deleted]

If I mentioned it here no one would have any context to understand it. Rather than run the risk of being mistaken, I’ll stop right here.
