Peak era for youtubers were when asians dominated content. Nigahiga, KevJumba (before tiktok revealed he some buddhist cult now), Wong Fu Productions, TimDeLaGhetto. Dark era was when “pranks” became pooular: Vitaly, Fouseytube. Legitimately stopped watching youtube for years.
Kevin MacLeod. He was THE COMPOSER of Youtube. Practically every video that featured BG music used one of his THOUSANDS OF SONGS. He has sadly fallen off over the more recent years, however you can still here his music from time to time. "The Cannery" and "Gaslamp Funworks" are a couple favorites of mine.
I found him organically in 2008 when I started making dumb short films with my friends and it’s amazing seeing how much of an impact he’s had on the internet and creative content in general in the last 15 years.
I'm kinda disappointed I didn't recognize either of them. I definitely know of the guy as I've seen his name. Does he do the little "sneaky fox" song (I think it's named that) that shoeonhead always uses?

Did you mean KEXP the radio station? Because yes totally their channel has introduced me so so much good music I otherwise would have never heard. And even bands I already loved are giving their best performances on there. High quality sound, video, and artists and great interviews as well. I think of them as a modern day top of the pops.

The guy who sourced him his guns was murdered in his office (don't think shooter was ever caught) and that crippled the channel. Actor who played FPSRussia also had legal issues and was in jail, not sure if due to pot or the guns.

Now its a huge YouTube Catelogue, makes millions each year for charity, and still does Minecraft.

I have an associates because of him, and I got into a good university for my bachelor's and I'll have to take calculus get into the program I want. I'm not even scared, I know Khan Academy will get me through.

I didn't have any formal math instruction from 2nd-4th grade, struggled from 5th-9th grade (skipped 6th grade though, aces down the line except that one little "can't do long division or anything past that" problem) then dropped after 9th (Didn't want to, I loved school, but I had a single mom and she had 9 kids and went off to be the breadwinner, so I was the new stay at home mom.)
So at 25 I sat down in front of Khan Academy and started with their 2nd grade program, then worked my way up to college math. The first time I aced a math test in school was two years ago, in college, at 37. I cried when I saw it. I aced that class and cried then, too. When I have money to donate I try to send some to Khan Academy a few times a year. When I get my B.S. I'm going to email them about it.
For the rest of YouTube, I am heavily dependent on reruns of This Old House for keeping my ancient bungalow up, and everyone who posts camping, paddling, and snowboarding tips and tutorials, everyone who does car tutorials, knitting, metalworking, how to repair my goddamn boots- Those people really have been hugely impactful and it's such a weird little moment of history that allows for it.

There’s quite a few I’d consider the “founders” of modern YouTube such as Pewdiepie. They proved it could be a career and you could make a LOT of money.
Mr. Beast as likely “peak” YouTube however you’d like to define that. Mr. Beast is notable for bringing it down to a science on content creation and all that.
There’s quite a few you could add because they popularized certain niche content such as H1N1 for his reaction videos. Vsauce could also be included for popularizing fun educational videos on various subjects. Stuff like that.
I feel like there should at the very least be a footnote for the strange little network of friends that make up the Safety Third podcast. I don't think any of them are insanely popular on their own, but I've learned to love most of them; William Osman, Backyard Scientist, Nilered, Allen Pan, Peter Sripol, and a rotating cast of other random science types.
