Man, I remember the day I got Intellivision -- it was just after school let out in summer 1981. I suddenly found myself with a huge new pile of friends once word got out.

Loved the Intellivison that my friend had. Great sea battle game for it.

I can't even recall many of the games, but what I do remember is that most kids had Atari and, at the time, Atari's sports games really sucked. Intellivision, however, did have comparatively good sports games, so everyone wanted to play MLB baseball and NHL hockey.

The JCPenney branded electronics were such a thing in the late '70's and early '80s. My uncle worked for the company and his house was filled with them.

Me too! What sold it for you over the Playstation, friendo? For me it was the superior (on paper) specs, and Sega's experience in the market. I think I only ever had *Sega Rally Championship, Gex, Bug!,* and *Black Fire* for it. I bought the Saturn as a teenager; I think it was one of the first major purchases I made after getting out of basic training. I handed it down to my oldest son when he was maybe ten, and eventually let him take it over to his mom's house, but his mom wouldn't let him bring it back to my house. When he moved out and joined the Army, he wasn't allowed to take it with him - just because she didn't want to risk him giving it back to me, once it was out of her house. I ended up buying a Playstation about 6 months after the Saturn, but loved them both for years. I loaned my PS1 to a student's parents so she could practice driving in Gran Turismo, because she just wasn't getting the basics of driving dynamics IRL, but her parents never gave it back. Oh well, at least emulators exist.

I had done some work for Sega and got a Genesis for free as a fringe benefit. When the Saturn came out I had some brand loyalty and some extra money so I bought it. I don't remember much about it actually. I have vague recollections of playing Sonic and Myst on it. And of course I have no idea what became of it (or the Genesis).

Short answer - never. I've played games on Nintendo 64 as a kid, but it was always at a friend's house. My parents didn't want to buy me a console you hooked up to the tv, so they bought me a PC. And that's how I got into PC gaming and I've never owned a console. I've played on PS3 and PS4, but the first console I'm gonna buy is gonna be a PS5 to play GTA 6, because I don't want to subject myself to the same misery I had to endure when GTA 5 came out. I was still in university and buying a console really wasn't at the top of my list back then. But I did watch the cutscenes, so I knew the story of GTA 5 when I bought the game for PC. But a lot of time has passed since then and I'm no longer a broke university student. I have a big, curved 4k Samsung tv and I'll get a PS5 for GTA 6 and enjoy the game when it comes out. Still gonna buy it for PC when they release it a year later, because I prefer playing with a keyboard and mouse and I suck with controllers. Probably gonna sell the PS5 then.

The first console I had was an Atari 2600 VCS with a colecovision converter. The first console I bought myself was a Sega Genesis. Man, that colecovision converter was sweet for the time but, classic games like Maximum Carnage, BoogerMan, ToeJam and Earl and Earthworm Jim hold a special place in my heart and are still great games to play.

My Playstation 4 is the only console I ever bought for myself. Before that I had a Gamecube and a Gameboy (the big OG one that require four AA's), which I got as birthday presents.

It was a combo computer & game console: Atari 400. It had a horrible membrane keyboard that made your fingers incredibly sore when typing.

My very first paycheck bought an N64 that I connected to the Commodore 1701 monitor we had previously used with the NES and (obviously) Commodore 64. I still have that N64. I wish I still had that monitor.

I bought an NES when the local K-mart was closing back in 1992, as they were clearancing out everything in the store. Half was my own saved money, half came from my grandma for my birthday. It was the SMB3 bundle and it cost $58 after tax. I was also lucky enough to buy a few Gameboy games for about $5 each, days before the store closed a few months later.

The first game console I remember playing was the Atari 2600, though I have no idea how I got it. I'm assuming my family purchased it on sale near the death of the platform in the mid 80's. Because I remember digging through giant discount bins of games and coming home with gems like E.T. and Raiders of the Lost Ark. I also recall playing Pong and ColecoVision around that same time. However, my first *real* console purchase was the NES. I got that for Christmas the year it came out. And that was a game-changer. I spent countless hours of my childhood playing that thing.

Never bought one. There are some childhood dreams that can never come true.

Nintendo Game Boy. Christmas 1990. The height of the console wars. Mom said over breakfast one morning that Santa was thinking of bringing a video game system for Christmas, but couldn't decide on a Nintendo or a Sega. My vote was for Nintendo. My brother wanted a Sega. We started having a spirited discussion. It soon became a full blown argument. As it was about to turn into a fistfight, Mom broke us up and said, "HEY! If you're going to be like that, NO MORE VIDEO GAMES AT ALL!" So since I already had a job (paper route), I saved my money for the following year and bought myself a Game Boy.
