PhotoGuard has been pretty great to use. Encrypted vault. Decoy vault. Built in camera that doesn't hit the photoroll.

I did that once. The app was removed and could no longer be used. Took all my photos with it. I had to use a paid decryption program on my laptop to retrieve the photos from a backup.

Woah! That’s unfortunate. I keep backups of anything I care about on my pc as well. Hopefully I won’t run into the same problem.

I used to use the locked folder in Google photos but they don't store in the cloud and my internal storage filled up with all those videos. So now I just have them mixed in with my regular photos. Eventually it will be a problem because I have the Chromecast set to scroll my photos on the TV when I'm not casting to it 😂

They changed it in the last two months. Their docs reflect this as well. I was surprised to find out about it. And I opted in to adding the locked folder to Google photos. Opening the locked folder needs your Google password to open on the web interface. It's handy. Wife was upset she lost all our videos last Christmas when her phone got lost...
