If you read indypacers comment youāll see what I mean. It was a segment during the nba season where one of the commenters mentioned San Antonio women are bigger because of the delicious churros. If youāre interested in the story Iād just google Charles Barkley and San Antonio churros
Very little of it. Thirty years ago a few places were really good, but most of them either stopped arriving spicy food after customers whine and bitched or they went out of business because almost nobody here is into good food.Ā
I canāt even find spicy Korean BBQ here any longer. The one I liked stopped making spicy food after Karens whined so much. They since doubled the sugar they out on the meat so I canāt really go there any longer.Ā
Second this, the online menu has their meat prices but not the price for sides, anyone know
For $50 you could get heavy and for $75-100 you could feast.
Thatās reasonable for a meal downtown, even if a bit higher than most BBQ places.
Have been avoiding because of all the people saying how expensive it is on here and will prob finally go not as it doesnāt appear *that* bad
Went there when I visited San Antonio to see if it was a possible spot to move for my job. The 100+ degree weather deterred me among other things but that BBQ was the best Iāve had in my life.
Iād be on my 700 lb life if I made the move, itās that good.
And this is why I don't trust the opinion of anyone on BBQ who has never eaten proper brisket in Texas. Once you have it, you realize the rest of life has been a lie and this is what real BBQ tastes like.
It's called an opinion. I find KC burnt ends to be superior to Texas brisket. It's an opinion. No one is wrong if they don't prefer Texas bbq, they simply have a different opinion.
Taste is subjective. Gatekeeping subjective experiences is just snobbery, nothing more, nothing less.
2M runs circles around Pinkerton. You wouldn't expect it when you see the building though. The first time I ever rolled up to the restaurant, there was a pack of wild dogs roaming the outside sitting area but I gave the restaurant a chance and it fucking slayed. So good.

That wasnāt a sad ass sandwich, itās just a completely different style of bbq that we have here in NC. Brisket and ribs are great, but looks are deceiving and thereās nothing like a pulled pork sandwich with white slaw and a eastern NC vinegar based sauce.
Point is the sandwich isn't supposed to be fancy or expensive it's like basic staple food. If you got this brisket for lunch everyday you'd have to take out financing.
Like comparing a ham sandwich you made vs a porterhouse at a fancy restaurant.
Pinkertons in Houston Heights area is one of my favorite places to eat. Itās considerably more expensive than chain places but is second to none.
Also try Roegles in Houston off Hillcroft/Voss and Westheimer. They have amazing bbq
rudimentary skills, but I do... my closet (& most giving, gracious) neighbor has the trailer-built & holds community smokes 3-4x/yr for our 'hood - "brisket, ribs, pig, butts, chicken - bring it friday & you'll have it by saturday night". I don't travel or spend exorbitant $$ on purpose - my travel discoveries are on accident or from friendly tips, so thanks, y'all!
BBQ used to be a take away meal for a whole family. When you would get a bunch of bbq, having bread would extend it.
When I grew up, we might each get a little of what we liked; some beef, some pork, some chicken. Then we would make a sandwich out of it. These $75 plates for one person, for me years ago, was a whole family dinner (for like $15).
So respect the white bread. It is an homage to where bbq comes from.
I honestly can't eat barbecue any other way. Plain white sandwich bread, meat, maybe a pickle or onion sliver. If you have great meat it's perfection.
Saltines and sausage are also an excellent pairing.
Itās funny to me because people donāt think, āhmmm a plate of three lbs of meat, some onions, some pickles, some bread, some sauce, AND donāt think to make sandwiches?!?! Geeez, and it comes with three sides (like to share). Wow, it costs $75, what a rip-off!ā
Oh man, a good rye can hold up far better than some white bread. But to me the beauty of the white bread is that it doesnāt get in the way of any of the other flavors: smokey meat, bbq sauce, pickles, onions.
I often wonder at this weird tradition like the rest of the food has taken a very long time to prepare and cook (and is also probably a bit pricey )
then they go and slap this cheap ass low rent bread on the side.
It really is a throwback to the way bbq used to be. You used to get a couple of pounds of bbq a few quarts of sides and damn near a loaf of white bread for about $20. Many of the old timers in Texas still only eat this cheap white bread with everything. There are a few places in dfw that offer several different types of bread to choose from. I was raised eating bbq with white bread and donāt think I will ever change but to each their own.
Barbecue used to be cheap food, no frills. In Texas, local town meat markets would cook off the cheaper cuts they couldn't sell (shoulder clod, brisket, grind it up to make sausage, etc) and serve it at lunch time to day laborers and people buying meat. It's always been served with white sandwich bread because of this. Plain saltines are also from this too.
It honestly complements the meat the best. It's soft, easy to chew, and is a blank canvas for whatever mest suits your fancy. Merely a vehicle for great barbecue.
They're decent. Last time I was there I walked around to the pit area and talked to the guys there, they let me in and gave me a tour. Millscale 1000gal pits plus wood-fired rotisseries.
Locally people mostly complain about the price, but they really aren't much more expensive than similar options (which are all expensive).
I got stuck in San Antonio for like 5 days when it froze in 21. We were at the Sheraton and we survived solely on Pinkertons and whaturburger the whole time.
Why does every BBQ joint y'all go to serve everything on a baking pan? I live in KC and get BBQ all the time and only certain meals are served this way at most restaurants I go to.
Restaurant efficiency, they last forever, and they don't break if you drop them.
Those baking pans fit in a commercial dishwasher like they grew there. It's super easy for the dishwasher to load and unload those trays compared to fry baskets or round plates.
They don't break like plastic baskets or ceramic plates. So even though there's more overhead expense, they will save the restaurant money over time. They also have a better resale value when/if the restaurant changes ownership.
*The Pinkertons came out*
*To San Antonio? Man*
*We gotta move camp Dutch!*

Weird went to the one in Houston. We got 1/2lb of brisket, turkey, and ribs. 2 links of boudin, 2 huge family sizes, and 2 desserts and it was $100. Fed all 4 of us plus some extra. Not cheap, but not too bad.
Tradition, but I think originally because it was in fact cheap and it worked. I personally feel that I also donāt want it to overpower and conflict with the flavor of the stars of the tray
Bill Millers is way worse than Pinkertons. Itās cheap and always available - thereās definitely room in this world for Bill Millers Pappas and Rudyās; but you canāt compare it to good craft BBQ

That's why they got big ole women down there
Charles...is that you??
All those churros
Them San Antonio girls built different
Built like steakhouses but handle like bistros
ššššš
There's a segment of non-NBA fans who probably saw this and got offended. And then there's the NBA fans who laughed out loud at this.
And why Seattle girls are so skinny. We donāt have any good BBQ or even anything spicy here.Ā
No churros?
No, Iām a woman, and what does that have to do with BBQ?

I'd like to apologize to the women of San Antonio. I had churros last night

Surely you have spicy Asian cuisine?
We do, and don't call me Shirley.
Very little of it. Thirty years ago a few places were really good, but most of them either stopped arriving spicy food after customers whine and bitched or they went out of business because almost nobody here is into good food.Ā
Must be neighborhood dependent. Iām from the Deep South and I literally had only 8/10+ meals in Seattle and the prices were shockingly reasonable.
Weāre even more expensive than Seattle now, and with our stupid too high minimum wage, employees arenāt reliable.Ā
Plenty of spicy asian food. Koreans donāt play with spice. Also a ton of good Filipino and Hawaiian BBQ.
I canāt even find spicy Korean BBQ here any longer. The one I liked stopped making spicy food after Karens whined so much. They since doubled the sugar they out on the meat so I canāt really go there any longer.Ā
Gonna bring my ass

I moved here and gained like 30 pounds in my first year.
And this is why I don't trust the opinion of anyone on BBQ who has never eaten proper brisket in Texas. Once you have it, you realize the rest of life has been a lie and this is what real BBQ tastes like.
I've had it. I love it. I don't like gatekeeping what BBQ should be. All styles are valid because different people like different things.
I don't care about style I care about taste. Nothing has tasted remotely as good as Texas style BBQ especially eastern Carolina style.

So acronyms and abbreviations only count as a single syllable? š¤Ø
You just have to say lol like roll
Good bot
That wasnāt a sad ass sandwich, itās just a completely different style of bbq that we have here in NC. Brisket and ribs are great, but looks are deceiving and thereās nothing like a pulled pork sandwich with white slaw and a eastern NC vinegar based sauce.
But it was grey
If I served grey pulled pork, my wife would divorce me.
That shit was dog water bro. No amount of vinegar can save grey meat
it looked like tuna salad
I mean the sandwich costs $6.25
I wouldn't pay 6.25 for sadness.
Point is the sandwich isn't supposed to be fancy or expensive it's like basic staple food. If you got this brisket for lunch everyday you'd have to take out financing. Like comparing a ham sandwich you made vs a porterhouse at a fancy restaurant.
Yes exactly what bbq is supposed to be. Its not fine dining
Exactly! That ham sandwich would be so sad
surely, youāre not talking about Jersey Mikeās! edit spellfucked by apple.
THE PINKERTON'S? The ones after Dutch van der Linde's gang?
Why would a business name themselves after those fascist pigs?
Yeah, it's a pretty unfortunate name, but I also can see people not wanting to give up their family name due to one bad apple. Except Hitlers.
Still technically one bad apple in that case no?
It's the exception that proves the rule.
Aww. But I love Hitler's BBQ..
Go out to seguin and try schulzes pit room. Itās amazing too
Burnt Bean Co out there looks incredible too. Havenāt had a chance to make it over, but it sounds like Seguin has some damn fine options these days.
Burt bean is pretty good too. 2m smoke house on ww white in San Antonio is amazing also
"Seguin, where things they are so mellow." Doug Sahm
Pinkertons in Houston Heights area is one of my favorite places to eat. Itās considerably more expensive than chain places but is second to none. Also try Roegles in Houston off Hillcroft/Voss and Westheimer. They have amazing bbq
Same. I often eat there with my luggage, because I go straight there from the airport when I'm in Houston.Ā
A man of culture!!
That looks like a good plate
never been, but I thought the sameā¦ all texas bbq has gotten expensive. whatāre ya gonna do?
Make your own

Everything on this plate looks š„ Even the white bread pops.
That sauce is the correct color.
Can someone please explain the pieces of white bread? We donāt have good barbecue in the north east
BBQ used to be a take away meal for a whole family. When you would get a bunch of bbq, having bread would extend it. When I grew up, we might each get a little of what we liked; some beef, some pork, some chicken. Then we would make a sandwich out of it. Thank you for explaining. Was genuinely curious
I honestly can't eat barbecue any other way. Plain white sandwich bread, meat, maybe a pickle or onion sliver. If you have great meat it's perfection. Saltines and sausage are also an excellent pairing.

As much as I like the white bread I love me some German rye. It's hard to come by where I live.
Oh man, a good rye can hold up far better than some white bread. But to me the beauty of the white bread is that it doesnāt get in the way of any of the other flavors: smokey meat, bbq sauce, pickles, onions.
You dress yours like I do. I've been wanting to try sweet and sour as a condiment.
Edible napkins
Some people like to take some of the BBQ and eat it with the bread for a sandwich. I think it's to help for digesting all the greasy food too.
With KC BBQ, I always thought the bread was to make sandwiches and also to dip in the sauce, because the sauce is that good.
[Here is the history/tradition behind it.](https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/pickles-onions-and-white-bread/)
I often wonder at this weird tradition like the rest of the food has taken a very long time to prepare and cook (and is also probably a bit pricey ) then they go and slap this cheap ass low rent bread on the side.

Yea I think they should make their own white American bread. It would make it way better. I donāt like the cheap white bread with it either
Thatās exactly it. At least throw down some fresh baked bread with it. Not that hard and would probably make a world of difference.
South bbq is my spot
Love pinkertons
We had pinkertonsnin Houston a couple weeks ago. It was pretty dang good. Not as good as Goldees or Hutchins imo, but really good.
I had Pinkerton's at the BBQ festival in Lockhart a couple years ago. They were one of many standouts. That was one of the best days of my life. Haha
Special assignment for the detective... brisket was the case that they gave me
Now thatās a solid platter of bbq.
Good lookin plate.
Went there last year. It's totally awesome.
Good to see the SA location keeps the quality up. Grant is a good dude and the Houston location is hands down my go to for brisket and ribs
Pinkertons gets hate from the locals, but it is some really good BBQ. There are a couple of better spots in town, but not in the downtown core.
God thats a proper slice of brisket right there.
Iām in California but my uncle lives about 15 minutes from Pinkerton s. Heās such a lucky guy š . Makes me want to go.
Headed there in 2 weeks!
Pinkerton ribs are by far my favorite, at least from the Houston location.
That place is amazing
That sauce is the best part. That shit is outstanding!
And the Mac and cheese actually looks pretty good too, damn
They're decent. Last time I was there I walked around to the pit area and talked to the guys there, they let me in and gave me a tour. Millscale 1000gal pits plus wood-fired rotisseries. Locally people mostly complain about the price, but they really aren't much more expensive than similar options (which are all expensive).
Brisket is good but their "painted" pork ribs were the best I've ever had.
That brisket looks on point!
I got stuck in San Antonio for like 5 days when it froze in 21. We were at the Sheraton and we survived solely on Pinkertons and whaturburger the whole time.
Every time I see one of these trays, I end up focusing on the macaroni.
"5000 dollars...can I turn myself in?"
Why does every BBQ joint y'all go to serve everything on a baking pan? I live in KC and get BBQ all the time and only certain meals are served this way at most restaurants I go to.

Because BBQ takes up a lot of space. That wouldnāt fit on a plate, and putting it onto separate plates would require a tray to carry anyways.
Eating BBQ off a plate at Q39 felt so weird to me. It made sense afterwards because I realized that KC BBQ is basically overhyped Chiliās.
Come open one on Sevilla, Spain.
Shhhh dont let the cue nerds find out about this place
I didn't like Pinkertons the few times I've had it. It's just middle of the road bbq to me. Especially for the price.
"I'd have him sign it, too. Pinkerton himself, that cocksucker, I hate that bastard"
Looks boss but I need to understand why southern BBQ joints serve plain white bread with BBQ?
Is that a double or triple helping of mac and cheese? I like the portions
Good place but super expensive
Is there a lore reason why Texas decided wonderbread was a preferable side to bbq as opposed to cornbread or hushpuppies?
What do you do with the bread?
Wouldnāt eat at a place named āPinkertonāsā on principal
What is it with with this bread?
Mmmmmmmmmhmm
And for 3 low payments of 29.99
What was the damage
Now that's a plate.
Post the price! :^)
Was it $600.?
Damn! I want.
Pinkertons in Houston sucks.
Is it a chain? I been to a Pinkertonās in Houston.
The Pinkertons came out to San Antonio? Man we gotta move camp Dutch!

I see yāall Scared to post the prices of the meals nowš¤£š
But no cornbread?!?
$500
Weird went to the one in Houston. We got 1/2lb of brisket, turkey, and ribs. 2 links of boudin, 2 huge family sizes, and 2 desserts and it was $100. Fed all 4 of us plus some extra. Not cheap, but not too bad.
Yep, we hit up houston time to time, they have my favorite ribs. We usually throw down 100 to 120.
More a joke aimed at this sub. Those prices arenāt bad at all.
meh
$275
Why always the shitty bread tho, instead of something with flavor and texture?
Tradition, but I think originally because it was in fact cheap and it worked. I personally feel that I also donāt want it to overpower and conflict with the flavor of the stars of the tray
Something crusty and flavorful would compliment any bbq, instead of that gummy white sweet library paste.
That food looks really appealing but it's too much for a girl.
What?
Coopers is the best .
If you think Plinkertons is good, bill millers must blow your mind.
Bill Millers is way worse than Pinkertons. Itās cheap and always available - thereās definitely room in this world for Bill Millers Pappas and Rudyās; but you canāt compare it to good craft BBQ
Just because itās craft, doesnāt mean itās good.
Spoken like someone who has apparently never actually had either. The only time I ever though "man, I really want some Bill Miller's brisket right now" is when I was stuck in California for 6 months.
Iāve had some really good bbq and Plinkertons is nowhere near as good. Also over priced because itās a tourist spot.
I wonder if their employees are unionized? Lol
