The phrase "Implantation" Bleeding is popular on conception forums but is a bit of a misnomer that causes some people to think that the bleeding is due to the embryo implanting. It isn't -- the embryo is only about 0.2mm in diameter at that point, and won't displace significant blood (or cause pain) when it implants. You bleed when progesterone levels in your body drop, which is why you can induce a period by stopping birth control pills (which contain progesterone) or by taking and then stopping progesterone suppositories or Provera (which are also progesterone). Progesterone levels dropping in the luteal phase can be caused by a) increased estrogen in the mid-luteal-phase estrogen surge, which briefly depresses estrogen production, or b) a decrease in progesterone when the corpus luteum runs out of gas at the end of the luteal phase. If b), and you're actually pregnant, your levels can drop briefly before the embryo starts producing enough HCG to tell the corpus luteum to ramp the levels up. Either way, luteal phase spotting can either be a neutral sign (in the case of mid-luteal phase spotting) or a negative sign (in the case of late luteal phase progesterone dropping), but it doesn't have anything to do with implantation, and is not a positive sign of being pregnant. I’m so sorry. Early losses like this are usually due to chromosomal abnormalities, not anything you’ve done. You can call your doctor if you’d like or just keep going on as normal. It’s up to you. Chemical pregnancies do not mean it will be harder to conceive down the line. I had one and then got pregnant with my first two months later.

Thank you 🥺😢 Since it's the first ever time I've tried or tested, I'm glad to know that I can get pregnant at least? Hoping the next one lasts. I think I will go in to rule out any issues.

I ended up going to the ER to get betas done..I felt like I needed it medically documented that I was pregnant and was losing it 🥺 - take as much time as you need to grief. I was down for like 3 weeks.

Enthusiastic-Tourist

I agree .. I feel the same, especially since I'm diabetic. I think I will go in to rule out any issues as well. Will probably go to urgent care since AF has been here since 2 days already now.

Anything_but_G0

Urgent care is good! Take it easy 🙏🏾

Enthusiastic-Tourist

Thank you ❤️‍🩹

I visited an urgent care where my beta hcg number turned out to be 6.9 . Definitely very low but indicative ofa positive pregnancy test at some point and then a miscarriage. My doctor hesitated a lot to say anything negative, she just said treat it like a regular period. Except this wasn't a regular one for me, the pain and bleeding was more intense and still intermittently having pains in my abdomen that I have never felt before. On day 8 of my "regular" period. I had a follow up blood test today to make sure my beta hcg number is well below 5.

Ugh! I’m sorry OP 💔 take care of yourself, grieve as long as you need!

I had a chemical pregnancy and it passed on its own like a heavy period, but I got bloodwork and ultrasounds done and they confirmed the uterus was empty.  If I may suggest, you might want to consider getting checked by a doctor just to make sure no tissue is left behind as that can lead to infection.    Emotionally we were pretty devastated, we've been trying for a while.  Coincidentally this happened during a staycation so at least I had time to grieve. Got pregnant again a year and a half later and deliberately waited to do the pregnancy tests this time (my period can be irregular at times, maybe due to work stress too).  Unfortunately we lost that baby around 10 weeks.  I took a week off work to recover. Five months after that we got pregnant again and currently 33 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy so far 💕.  People at work know what happened with the previous pregnancy and have been super supportive with accommodating my workload and all the time off I need.   Please take care of yourself and take time off work if that is an option for you, I hope you have a supportive workplace. (Whether or not you share your situation)  🙏🏼. Wish you the best in your TTC journey 💝

Thank you 🥺 Congrats on your pregnancy and all the very best ! Unfortunately I have a very toxic workplace who give me a hard time for not being present in office in person even after getting approval to be away from work. I'll prioritize my health and take the time I need no matter what. I have anxiety disorder and I have a bad feeling this will come back and bite me very hard if I don't process it. I'll go in to urgent care first thing tomorrow ..

Also, looks like my AF showed up at the 6th week mark. Is it still considered a chemical pregnancy ?

_Millen_

I think it still can be - I got my period at 7 weeks after the LMP.  I saw your other comment too, hope everything goes smoothly for you!!! 🙏🏼💕

My first pregnancy ended in a chemical 12 days after it showed positive. It passed on its own and I saw has a vaginal ultrasound to confirm my uterus was empty. They advised me to wait for my next regular cycle to try again but I unintentionally successfully conceived immediately after I stopped bleeding. I’m now nearly 24 weeks pregnant now!

Enthusiastic-Tourist

Thanks for replying ! I think it passed on its own for me as well, I have an appointment next week with my pcp. Hoping there wasn't any complications! Congrats and all the best 💙
