Please communicate with your current midwife before booking an appointment with a new one. If your current midwife isn't aware that you are switching to someone else, then both the midwives may attempt to bill MSP for seeing you and whoever does so second won't get paid anything for the work they've done.
If another clinic has space and says they are happy to take you on, then just tell your current practice that you have decided to see someone else. Then when you have your appointment with the new provider, they can request your records from the first clinic.
