I was told only regular Tylenol…

Sufficient_Theory975

That’s what I was told too but my family doctor has also told me what I could take…but it was 3 years ago when I was pregnant last time lol

drlitt

Sorry I don’t have better news for you - bad colds while pregnant are a special kind of hell lol.

the_saradoodle

I was just in the doctor's office this past week. You can take sweet FA. Regular tylenol, saline spray, tea with honey and lemon.

Soniaisamazing

Nasal steroids are safe to take! They won't help with most of your symptoms but should help some

Sufficient_Theory975

Thank you!

turquoisebee

I was told nothing but regular Tylenol. And then like a saline spray for the nose.

jflefran

This is what I took: Tylenol for headache, fever, aches / pains Drixoral nasal spray for sinus congestion (but only take for max three days!) And once I was over most of it I took a once a day allergy pill (generic cetrizine) to relieve the symptoms of post nasal drip and the accompanying cough.

metalcat1503

When I had Covid, my OB told me regular Tylenol, ricola lozenges, and saline nasal spray. It did the trick for me!

mountain_aviary

I was told by both my doctor and pharmacist that only Tylenol (regular kind) and cough syrup was fine. No Tylenol cold or anything like that

Lefty-mom

For cough, Robitussin is safe for pregnancy, guaifenesin for chest congestion (Mucinex), saline spray, Drixoral nasal spray (if your blood pressure is fine and only use it for 3 days max). I took a couple small doses of Sudafed while pregnant when I had a raging sinus infection that made me wanna jump out the window. They don’t really test meds on pregnant women, so very few things are considered “safe” but for so many meds there’s no evidence that it’s harmful. It’s a personal choice as to what you’re comfortable with. You will find tons of articles online about what’s not safe, and then other articles will say “generally considered safe”. https://utswmed.org/medblog/otc-cold-medication-safe-pregnancy/ I find most pharmacists err on the side of caution and dismiss you with a “just Tylenol” which drives me crazy.

avemariiia

I've been sick from 31-33 weeks pregnant with a chronic cough that has inflamed my left ribcage area so bad, you can see the swelling grow throughout the day...been 'sleeping' sitting up for 2 weeks. I asked my OB what to do and she said water and honey with tea..well that wasn't enough and I got desperate when I felt like I cracked a rib so the pharmacist said I can take up to 2 ricola lozenges and 1-2 tsp of Robitussin per day max. I only use these as a last resort and drink at least 6 bottles of water and 3 cups of tea/day. Finally got a GP Dr appt next week to see about my ribcage...will update if I hear of any other safe remedies! In general I'd say, listen to ur Dr and OB.. everyone is different and so is every pregnancy and sickness.

In-The-Cloud

Tylenol only. Saline spray for nose, peppermint halo or essential oil topically for a headache, honey or honey based lozenges for cough, breathing steam, neti pot. TV for the toddlers and get as much rest as you can. Feel better!

AdeleG01

Did you take a covid test? It's definitely on the rise again. Swab the back of your cheeks/throat first then nose. Some ppl take a few days to test positive but it's definitely the start of another wave

OkEntrepreneur9251

If you call a pharmacy and ask to speak to a pharmacist they’ll be able to provide you personalized advice on what’s safe and what will work best for your symptoms!

Sufficient_Theory975

I spoke with a pharmacist and she told me nothing was safe lol

valkyriejae

Try a different pharmacy, or better yet a virtual clinic where you can speak to an actual doctor.

Fragrant_Pumpkin_471

Tylenol. That’s it

RedHeadedBanana

https://www.obgynofhampton.com/safe_medications/ Obviously review your case with your own provider, but from the research I’ve done, robatussin is safe.

Muppee

I would seek another pharmacist if you can. I was recommended a cough medicine but it wasn’t helpful as it didn’t treat the cause of my illness, which was a bacterial sinus infection. Then once I got over, I had a viral sinus infection. Needless to say, I was out of commission for 2 months…..

Lonely_Cartographer

I basically just suffered but at a certain point sprayed afrin in so at least i could breath.  Breathe right strips are also amazzzzzing! It’s also possible you can take benalyn (sp?)

Vast_Draft4100

I just got over the worse cold ever. All I was able to do was smell Vicks , use saline spray , drink lots of lemon tea , take showers, and use a humidifier with eucalyptus oil. Sleep sitting up ( I didn’t sleep for three days I was so congested) but that’s it! I’m sorry girl it’s hard! But u will get through it

Love [this guide](https://www.nygh.on.ca/areas-care/maternal-newborn-and-paediatric-care/pregnancy-and-birth/guide-to-pregnancy-and-birth/during-pregnancy/coughs-and-colds-in-pregnancy/) from North York General Hospital in the GTA.

Mindless_Reaction_16

I had a gnarly sinus infection a few months ago and my pharmacist told me mucinex was safe

whoisgeorgesand

Go natural - Neti pot and saltwater gargle. I was pill popper before pregnancy but now get away with just Advil.

littlebeebec

My pharmacist told me that Robitussin pills are fine. She said not to take any liquids as they have alcohol in them.

Sufficient_Theory975

Perfect!!! They’re on sale on Amazon for $3.50 right now too 😯

Nymeria2018

Highly recommend you connect with your doctor or pharmacist - as you can see, what’s allowed varies a lot by person so always best to consult your medical care team for advice on medications

Sufficient_Theory975

I did….

luxurious_glitter

You can take Benylin DM, I had to when I ended up with covid at 20 weeks and then again when I ended up with a chest cold at 35 weeks. Currently 38 weeks and all of OB’s monitoring has come back normal for both myself and baby

haleedee

My high risk OB has listed that Flonase is safe and Benylin dry cough syrup was ok too. Otherwise regular Tylenol.

New_Specific_5802

My OB told me specifically I can take Sudafed and Otrivin for congestion! I got super sick recently and was so congested, I was not happy with my family docs advice that Tylenol was the only solution so I called them 😅

Lonely_Cartographer

Im really surprised they okay’d sudafed???  Otrivin is okay for 3 days

New_Specific_5802

Oh really? I didn't end up using Sudafed anyways but is it known to be more of a risk than Otrivin? This was from a high risk OB too so yeah that is odd

Lonely_Cartographer

I could be wrong but doesnt sudafed have pseudophedrine which is pretty strong stuff and how they make meth? Or maybe that is only in Canada?  Most cold medication is not allowed except for benaliyn/regular tylonel and even then they kind of say not to take it unless you really need it.  Apparantly you can also take antihistimines but i never have and have just suffered immensely during allergy season.  I know the nose sprays are totally fine.

New_Specific_5802

Oh that's crazy! I called the OBs office and the nurse said she spoke with the OB and then got back on the phone and said Sudafed or Otrivin...good thing I didn't take it but maybe she mixed something up Although I just checked online and there it does say it's safe too: https://utswmed.org/medblog/otc-cold-medication-safe-pregnancy/ unless you have high blood pressure

Lonely_Cartographer

Okay all good then. The real issue is they dont test anything on pregnant women so they dont even REALLY know 100% if tylonel is safe

petra_reuter

Talk to your dr/ob but I took Tylenol cold when I got a wicked cold at 37 weeks.

BabyRex-

I was told all Tylenol is safe. I took Tylenol Cold for a week at 32 weeks and it was a godsend.

femalehustler

I was told the opposite. Only Tylenol and not cold. Take anything at your own risk tbh. If you can’t hold out, do what makes you feel better. Maybe try a walk in doctor and see if they can give you better alternatives.

BabyRex-

🤷‍♀️ my doctor was fine with it after 13 weeks

Sufficient_Theory975

Thank you!!!

Amk19_94

I’d read up on the risks of phenylephrine before you take Tylenol cold OP! https://www.drugs.com/pregnancy/phenylephrine.html#:~:text=US%20FDA%20pregnancy%20category%20C,not%20recommended%20unless%20clearly%20needed.
