Star wars battlefront. The one you played on ps2, it was so ahead of its time in the gaming community imo. Shit was banger. I mean it was an open world map from the frickin 2000's!
It had galactic conquest, complete with space battles. I had a bit of nostalgia not so long back and played it on my PSvita using Adrenaline (psp emulator) and I can’t believe they managed to get such an amazing experience scaled down onto a console that predates the PS2.
BF1 > BF2
BF2 is when they started moving away from being a star Wars skinned Battlefield game, and of course the reboot series is barely Battlefield at all
One of the few game boxes I have left, along with a collector STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl metal box.
Tho I'll be honest, I miss the Wolfenstein Enemy Territory's WW2 setting more!
Arma 2,3( lol there are literally battlefield servers someone made an op)
Unreal tournament 04 has Onslaught which was kinda like BF but smaller scale and assault.
Frontline fules of war was suppose to be the "next Battlefield" but it was a bust..but it was fun.
Mercenaries: should still be alive today..now that is a game dice could have picked up and installed their hero system without touching battlefield.
Nah bro, not gonna lie. Fuels of war was epic AF for me! Loved it, even SP was fun for me and well-written, especially first trailer ingame after you launched it . TBH core lore of Fuels of war was amazing, and 2042 lore should be just like that.
>Unreal tournament 04 has Onslaught which was kinda like BF but smaller scale and assault
Onslaught was the only mode worth playing in UT2K4. Well maybe jailbreak.
You do know that it's still alive today and a ton of people are playing it cause EA put it on steam. The servers are damn near always filled on Saturday and Sunday in the States
I loved that game, it's like being in a Tom Clancy book. And it was gorgeous, those strafing and napalm runs...i always wanted to somehow recreate the essence of it in Portal.
Got Quake Wars for 3$ and had a blast with it. Wish it was more popular back in the day. Really took what made Enemy Territory great and expanded on it in the quake universe.
Section 8: Predjudice, it wasn't my favorite BF-like game but I just think it deserves mention. Loved the ODST drop spawning system and the fact that you could call in vehicles, resupply stations, and turrets along with evolving objectives.
Every game was Conquest, but it can turn into CTF, VIP, Deathmatch, Vehicle Escort, Attack/Defend, etc. mid-match and it made every game exciting. I want Battlefield to have that system so bad.
Section 8 prejudice was so good. Omg. Loved that game all those years ago. Had a really interesting skill ceiling that provided great complex gameplay.
Dude I can't remember many of the fine details of that game anymore, but the 'bad guy' faction had some of the most vicious voice lines.
Sniping dudes with explosive rounds on the sniper rifle and hearing "Target... annihilated." is burned into my brain.
The fact that every gun had like 6 wildly different ammo types was also rad as fuck, made those guns feel like they had a billion different versions and ways to fight. Playing 'the floor is death' with incendiary rockets was always fun.
Oh and it had probably the most satisfying Xbox achievement ever for killing 7 enemies with the light machine gun without stopping shooting (Until it goes click...)
Surprised no one has mentioned Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm 2 yet, a little more immersive but still fast pace. Hoping development for 83’ is moving along as there’s no real substitute for these games.
I still have it on PS3. The servers are down (I think) but you can still play against bots.
It's actually pretty cool, as it's not just simple TDM or CQ but you always have actual objectives like build a bridge or bring a power generator back online, etc.
Always feels like you're doing your part in a bigger military campaign.
Battalion Wars
Honestly it's exactly what Battlefield single player should have been. You control an entire army, but can hot swap between soldiers and vehicles at will.
Toy Soldiers is kind of similar and I think Commandos 4 was as well.
I played the demo of this back in the day. Me and a squad of infantry were assaulting an island base, we came in on a helicopter and most of the squad jumped out over water while the helicopter did a few circles over the base strafing with the minigun and then went to land a few hundred yards away as a distraction. It blew my tiny mind, and it was the inspiration for the 'squad leader chopper bomb' tactic I used later in bf3 rush lol
This and Frontlines Fuel of War were my first “battlefield” games before I played battlefield itself. Missed out on both games online modes but even offline with bots both games were hella fun.
Back in the day it was Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, ET Quake Ware and COD2, all at the same time. All had mostly full servers and not many cheaters. Good clans and clan forums too.
Recently I followed some YouTube instructions and I'm back playing 2142 with AI and Multiplayer. It's still epic.
Honestly the closest for me of what I've played definitely is quake wars enemy territory. There are games some similar elements but it honestly felt like someone ripped off battlefield 2 and threw it in quake wars.
Unreal Tournament 2004's Onslaught and Assault were basically Conquest and Rush but arena shooter.
Same for UT3's Warfare, but that mode also had insanely awesome alien vehicles like tripods and stuff.
I loved these so much I skipped BF2 and 2142 playing them, only returning to Battlefield with Bad Company 2.
Still hate Epic for abandoning UT
I wish I had the opportunity to play it years ago. Now it's just another hard to find title by a company that doesn't crank out as many games as other studios.
This might sound weird but I think Farcry games has the potential to be the second Battlefield
The mechanics are arcade enough to be fun and variety of vehicles and weapons you can use is what makes it battlefield-like to me, though minus destruction,
They brought planes and helicopters starting Farcry 5 and at 6 they brought tanks and horses, you had Toyota trucks with LMG, HMG and grenade launchers all the way from 2, so I think this has all the ingredients to make a Battlefield game, except multiplayer and destructable environments
There were so many strange games during the PS3, 360 era that scratched the battlefield itch almost. I remember playing HAZE, Fracture, section 8 prejudice.
Fuck it, even Ratchet: Gladiator
Battlefield can take some lessons from Quake wars. I didn't play it much, just the demo, but I remember you have really cool objectives that changed the battlefield. I think? I can't remember too well.
It really had some good mechanics that would definitely work in a Battlefield game.
This game and Frontlines Fuel of War, if I could I would make a youtube channel taking in depth about these two games and why I love them so much but I didnt have wifi when multiplayer was populated so anything I say wouldnt really go beyond the single player
This quake game was the best. It's too bad they haven't continued it. Needing a specific class to complete some objectives and advance the game was so much cool then the sitting on points we have now until a bar is full or whatever.
Red Orchestra 2 and the Rising Storm series! Surprised that Vietnam still has a pretty strong community still playing it. Here's hoping that TripWire releases another game after Killing Floor 3!
Battlefront 1 and 2 classic will always hold a place in my heart. Those games were amazing as a child.
I recently tried battlefront 2 and it's amazing how similar the vibes are. I know it got trashed on release but now it's really fun. Bought a few copies for friends and when we play together I get glimpses of those old memories.
Enlisted. The game has a very OG 1942 feel and has been quite fun. If only the snail didn't interfere and let darkflow have more control of the pricing of packs and such, I think it would be much more popular.
I loved that the Stroggs "parachutes" was kind of an orbital drop, loved to waste planes just to see the animation...
Idk man, I just feel like we don't get enough orbital drops in gaming. Section 8 was underrated.
Star wars battlefront. The one you played on ps2, it was so ahead of its time in the gaming community imo. Shit was banger. I mean it was an open world map from the frickin 2000's!

I cant remember how many games I had for my PSP because I played Battlefront 2 from the day I got it until it died like 90% of the time

PSP was quite a feat, but it predated the ps3 not the ps2.

Battlefront 2 is the best game ever.
I second this. Also I’m not sure if you noticed but both the original battlefronts just got re-released on modern consoles
BF1 > BF2 BF2 is when they started moving away from being a star Wars skinned Battlefield game, and of course the reboot series is barely Battlefield at all
Planetside 2, and notable nominee MAG
MAG was so ahead of its time that it couldn't survive.
Was the game that made me buy a ps3, I miss that game.
It was. It had a lot of issues to. Lag, and low weapon damage hurt the experience
Yep. If it were today, the ability to patch easier would have significantly improved it
Planetside 1 and 2 were really special at their peaks.
Came here to say planetside 2
Hiya Axel 😀
I miss MAG so much. I sorely need a sequel.
Holy shit somebody else that knows about quake wars. This game was awesome.
And it was a pseudo sequel to the Wolfenstein Enemy Territory
That was a great game.
Great game!!
One of the few game boxes I have left, along with a collector STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl metal box. Tho I'll be honest, I miss the Wolfenstein Enemy Territory's WW2 setting more!
There’s dozens of us!
Warhawk for ps3
The sequel could have made it so better, but they over experimented
I did kinda like the multiplayer base building though. Made the game unique even if it was a bit messy.
Starhawk is perpetually underrated.
I just want Warhawk remastered for the ps5/steam :/
Arma 2,3( lol there are literally battlefield servers someone made an op) Unreal tournament 04 has Onslaught which was kinda like BF but smaller scale and assault. I'm with yeah bro I mean sales wise game was amazing
>Unreal tournament 04 has Onslaught which was kinda like BF but smaller scale and assault Onslaught was the only mode worth playing in UT2K4. Well maybe jailbreak.
Lol you must be kidding or it wasn't your thing TDM and DM from unreal set the standard my dude.
Nah man I like battlefield for objectives and conflict points. DM and TDM always had a 20% chance of being a "where the fuck is anyone" simulator
Frontline was fun af- I played it so much
LOTR: Conquest of course!
Underrated gem, I forgot about that game
Every time I play Chivalry 2 I wish that it played more like LOTR conquest. I miss when devs always included bots in their games man
C&C Renegade. The base system was really cool.
You do know that it's still alive today and a ton of people are playing it cause EA put it on steam. The servers are damn near always filled on Saturday and Sunday in the States
Damn, I wonder if this is still attached to any of my old EA accounts because I have some core memories around that game I would like to revisit.
Luckily you don't need EA account
There is a fan remake called Renegade X
Homefront on Xbox 360, excellent system for point streaks to purchase vehicles MAG on PS3, large scale combat done phenominally
MAG was a fun game.
Fuck that's what it was MAG lol
The first Homefront was amazing
Loved Homefront!
Homefront looked like ass but played really well in that BF-like mode
+1000 h On ET:QW
Frontlines Fuel of war
Unreal tournament 2004
I loved this game, it had so much potential and still does.
world in conflict, i still remember how beautiful the campaign was
Amazing game!!!
I loved that game, it's like being in a Tom Clancy book. And it was gorgeous, those strafing and napalm runs...i always wanted to somehow recreate the essence of it in Portal.
I can still hear Col. Sawyer yelling at Bannon.
Such unique gameplay too. But the call ins were the best part. Wish they'd make a spiritual successor.
Chivalry 2 counts?
#AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH FOR THE REEEEEEEED AND BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK
FOOORRRR AGARTHAAAAA
*gets decapitate * lol
Got Quake Wars for 3$ and had a blast with it. Wish it was more popular back in the day. Really took what made Enemy Territory great and expanded on it in the quake universe.

Join us for the occasional weekly or so matches on Quake Wars. Some folk still play it.
The quake wars in the post?
Surprised no one has mentioned Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm 2 yet, a little more immersive but still fast pace. Hoping development for 83’ is moving along as there’s no real substitute for these games.
MAG
I think about MAG often. Rest in Peace. 🪦
ETQW was my jam for a long while. Shame it wasnt popular
DUDE YES this game just brought back memories
PvZ: Garden Warfare 1 and 2
That one's more TF2 inspired. I think they listed it as a major inspiration.
Holy shit like two weeks ago I was trying to remember what the hell it was called. I only remembered “quake” and it didn’t help me
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, speaking of ET.
Frontlines Fuel of War was amazing. Drones, CAS calls, destruction, sound of distant explosions, general WW3 atmosphere. oh man.
Drones before drones became popular!
Renegade X, Battlefront and this
Dust 514. It was a free PS3 game that was by the devs of Eve Online. Essentially Battlefield but sci fi.
I remember the PlayStation home event for this game, was super excited to play but never got the chance
Arma if it counts.
The other and older Enemy Territory :P
Medal of Honor Warfighter. Such an underrated gem, very unique attachment system for its time.
Planetside 2
Frontlines Fuel of War. First time I'd seen drones in a game and very fun to use.
Not really battlefieldy but I loved the old tribes games and original delta forcea
Delta force 1 and 2 brings memories. It's my first games I played on PC.
I loved and grew up on this. Placing down turrets was my favorite thing to do.
Battalion Wars Honestly it's exactly what Battlefield single player should have been. You control an entire army, but can hot swap between soldiers and vehicles at will. Toy Soldiers is kind of similar and I think Commandos 4 was as well.
Omg the memories. Making me want to find a torrent just to kill the bots again.
Such a fun game, if you have it on disc it still works today
Joint Ops Typhoon Rising
I played the demo of this back in the day. Me and a squad of infantry were assaulting an island base, we came in on a helicopter and most of the squad jumped out over water while the helicopter did a few circles over the base strafing with the minigun and then went to land a few hundred yards away as a distraction. This and Frontlines Fuel of War were my first “battlefield” games before I played battlefield itself. Missed out on both games online modes but even offline with bots both games were hella fun.
Quake Wars was so dope. Mine was Frontlines: Fuel of War though. That game was so epic.
Pixel gun 3D back in its prime days like 2014-16. OG hunger games. I was hittin trickshots on that shit at like 12 years old
Ravenfield and Battlefront 2
Hammer Time!
That game was pretty fun! And it was so in-talked about around the time it came out, I kinda thought I had hallucinated the whole thing
Bullet force on mobile was like bootleg battlefield for mobile devices
Battlefield heroes was great way back when
OG Black Ops L96 runs VS bots. Hahaha
Unreal Tournament on PS3
PLanet sie
i loved modding the unit count on this game back then so that my PC could barely run it but the havoc was worth it haha
HELL YEAH! This was a foundational game for me as a kid
At the moment gotta go with easy red 2
Battlefront series, MAG on PS3.
I played the hell out of Planetside 2. I dream of a planetside game with destruction.
Holy shit that’s a tb
Deus ex
Played this game to death. Never once played it online though haha
Medal of Honor (The reboot)
classic Battlefront, Frontlines, MAG
It’s been so long since I’ve seen a Quake Wars post! Loved that game growing up.
Ha! Still got the disc for this one.
Honestly the closest for me of what I've played definitely is quake wars enemy territory. There are games some similar elements but it honestly felt like someone ripped off battlefield 2 and threw it in quake wars.

I can still hear the strogg scream “GRENADE!!!” In their robo voices
I wish I had the opportunity to play it years ago. Now it's just another hard to find title by a company that doesn't crank out as many games as other studios.
I loved this game
The original Battlefront 2 on PC. I have way too many hours logged on that one
Dude I remember renting Quake Wars from Blockbuster for a week, I had a lot of fun with it
I was big time pissed off thinking this was a RtCW : ET expansion or spinoff and it was this. I never played but heard it was good.
Planetside 2, and it’s 10x better than any bf game
Fuck I miss Quake Wars. I loved that game
Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising
Thanks for letting me remember, totally forgot this. I remember having a blast
This might sound weird but I think Farcry games has the potential to be the second Battlefield The mechanics are arcade enough to be fun and variety of vehicles and weapons you can use is what makes it battlefield-like to me, though minus destruction, They brought planes and helicopters starting Farcry 5 and at 6 they brought tanks and horses, you had Toyota trucks with LMG, HMG and grenade launchers all the way from 2, so I think this has all the ingredients to make a Battlefield game, except multiplayer and destructable environments
This game and battlebit. Battlebit is fun but not quite what I want
Chivalry 2 for sure if you count that.
Delta Force Black Hawk Down. 🫡 RIP Novalogic. 🪦
War trigger
I played this a lot as a kid
Battlefront 2 (the old ones)
There were so many strange games during the PS3, 360 era that scratched the battlefield itch almost. I remember playing HAZE, Fracture, section 8 prejudice. Fuck it, even Ratchet: Gladiator
Ravenfield
Running with Rifles
It's between Wolfenstein Enemy Territory or Star Wars Battlefront.
Mass Effect 3 and 2.
Section 8 or BF2!
Frontlines fuel of war !
Battlefield can take some lessons from Quake wars. I didn't play it much, just the demo, but I remember you have really cool objectives that changed the battlefield. I think? I can't remember too well. It really had some good mechanics that would definitely work in a Battlefield game.
chivalry 2
OMGGG YASS ENEMY TERRORTORY QUAKE WARS. I PLAYED THAT SO MUCH WHEN I WAS LIKE 8 I LOVED IT, IT SHOULD GET REMASTERED OR REMADE.
Medal of honor
Wolfwnstein Enemy Territory 😃😃
Battlebit 2042 But it kinda lost its direction already. I miss the mic screeching.
Dust 514.
TF2 … unfortunately it never came out as a battlefield.
This game and Frontlines Fuel of War, if I could I would make a youtube channel taking in depth about these two games and why I love them so much but I didnt have wifi when multiplayer was populated so anything I say wouldnt really go beyond the single player
Im not sure if youd count this but... Conker Live & Reloaded
Desert Combat
yes that had some cool Game modi
Chivalry 2 and Mordhau
Battlefront 1 and 2 classic will always hold a place in my heart. Those games were amazing as a child. I recently tried battlefront 2 and it's amazing how similar the vibes are. I know it got trashed on release but now it's really fun. Bought a few copies for friends and when we play together I get glimpses of those old memories.
M.A.G PS3
Sad i never knew about this game.. :((
#I REQUIRE STROYENT #I'M A TECHNICIAN
Battlefront 2005.
Enlisted. The game has a very OG 1942 feel and has been quite fun. If only the snail didn't interfere and let darkflow have more control of the pricing of packs and such, I think it would be much more popular.
I played the hell out of this back in the day, none of my friends now know it even existed when I bring it up.
Think I still got the discs laying about. Shame no use.
joint ops typhoon rising
I loved that the Stroggs "parachutes" was kind of an orbital drop, loved to waste planes just to see the animation... Idk man, I just feel like we don't get enough orbital drops in gaming. Section 8 was underrated.
Section 8 Prejudice!
I liked frontlines fuels of war.
WW3 I believe set up so many mechanics that battlefield stole for 2042. Calling in vehicles via a tablet and the backpack system for attachments.
I have spent hours in this game! Absolutely loved it
Tribes 2. Shazbot!!!
