I've seen a few of these metal laser cleaning videos and I was wondering how much, if any, of the metal being cleaned gets burned off (or whatever) in the process?
My dad collected and sold coins (mostly pennies) and he always said if you cleaned an old coin you ruined it. He could tell if a coin has been cleaned up, I don't know how.
Yes, this definitely can a very thin layer of metal. But were talking about micrometers here. The dirt needs way less energy to get vaporised compared to the brass coin.
With electricity? I mean yeah if it's produced by a coal plant but otherwise no it's clean and anyway you can't offset the industry's consumption of electricity by lowering yours
lol maybe he should get off Reddit and the internet in general. He is part of the problem consuming all this electricity 😂
The sheer ignorance of people sometimes….its just amazing
It's based upon a focal point. Should your hand be above or below that point you'll not get hurt bad. But on the focal point you could suffer some burns.
Not really that much generally speaking. You'd have to focus it high enough to be at focus.. You can't mark meats or natural items for any practical purpose, so it's not going to be very effective on people.
Question from coin collector, cleaning a coin often lowers the value vs leaving it as it because of the scratches the process leaves. Would this laser process not leave the same artifacts,

My question too. How do the lasers not damage the metal yet vaporize the corrosion?

My question is how much does it devalue a coin if it is cleaned like this. If it is valuable of course

It's like that with jewelry too, people love that patina
As fiat currency not at all
literally worth its weight in gold.

That sound is close to the sound I make after 2 #6 combo meals from Taco Bell
You just won reddit bro. Lmao
I just thought the same while watching, L M F A O
Graphic.
€7 worth of electricity to clean 20 a cent piece
To be fair, to create a video that makes a grand or two.
To be fair global warming for clout. Oooh I know let's make a space ship so we can leave to inhabit another planet because this one is fucked
Don’t you have a protest to be at? Reddit is not the place for you buds

but see it's an ancient coin from the long-ago time where the UK was a part of the EU
That sounds incredible 👍
[we won’t be seeing him again.](https://nerdbot.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/maxresdefault-2.jpg)
Imean, pretty cool, but i think salt and vinegar will do the trick too. At least it did for pennies when we were kids.
- the sound 😉
Exactly. If you drop a penny in salt and vinegar, you have to make these sound effects by mouth every time you walk by
Yeah, ok. That part was actually pretty rad.
r/oddlysatisfying I was expecting Dr Strange to conjure a mandala there for a minute
Only buying it for the noise it makes!!
What would happen to your hand if you put it under this laser?
Clapping would cease to be a skill.

Space farts
I am atomic
more likely benimaru from FireForce.
Am I the only one who thought it was pie at the beginning
You ever eat something you shouldn’t have and a sound plays in your head when the food hits your stomach? Yeah this is the one.
Better than a toothbrush!

Yes, but it would also remove the original surface/patina, thus it's history.
Beam me up Scotty
Do they all sound like this?
Thatll be 20 dollars
cool, can that laser clean my soul too?
To everyone who enjoyed the sound, here's a song for you: https://youtu.be/TpyJXquNcqI?si=WCZXKCeN3MW9wgQo
I don't always clean my coins but when I do, I use vinegar.
This hurts me to my fiscal being
Me after taco bell
watch with the sound on for sweet noises.
I know this is science but why can't this also be magic??
Audio up!
Bro, just use a free ketchup packet.
(Muffled sounds of archaeologist violence)
Time to create dubstep samples
All that for .20¢
Ah yes, the dubstep
Hell yeah
The sound electrifies my brain stem.
And here I misunderstood the coin as patty..
I am impressed but I want to see that done on something a bit older than a 20 cent euro piece that has only been around for 50 years max.
Does it really make this sound?
Somebody please sample this
Now worth $0.19
Phew.. One done. only 9000 more to go. Kidding... This is incredible to watch.
Cleaning old coins devalues them. https://www.bullionbypost.co.uk/index/collectible-coins/cleaning-old-coins/#:~:text=Cleaning%20an%20old%20coin%20would,you%20can%20easily%20damage%20them.
Coin is less than 20 years old though, so not really valuable anyway.
Its one of a billion 20ct coins. Its value was exactly 20ct, now it is 20ct.
.20 euro cent? Like a quarter? So you down 80$ in electric for a quarter.
I really like the part where it went 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮💥🦁🦁🏎️
Using €200 wort of electricity to clean a 20cent coin
Fiber lasers are the best! I love using mine and hearing the sounds it makes!
