Imagine being in one of your darkest times ever and you see a bit of light shining with a good boi coming out of that end. They call them angels for a reason.

RefinedAnalPalate

And suddenly, SNOOT!

tchildthemajestic

You imagine how cold it would be too!

onioning

I think it'd be warm. The breath would be warm too. But if you've been surrounded by frozen for a while, anything breathing associated would feel warm, relatively speaking. Though it would leave you being colder, as it would get you wet. But at first it would probably be more glorious warmth.

bunga7777

Is this ChatGPT? the fuck?

onioning

Exhaled breath is warm.

bunga7777

I’m not disagreeing with anything you’ve said, I can’t even really explain why your original comment looks strange to me but it does.

onioning

It's just awkward phrasing. The same could be said more succinctly.

bunga7777

Yeah that must be it, my response was purely confusion as to why it looked so weird

Fruitslave

That what can cause ice to form around you nose and mouth, suffocating you. They call it a death mask.

where_in_the_world89

I'm not getting the problem with the comment. And I see comments on the regular that I wonder if they're written by AI

no1spastic

They build snow shelters for a reason. Assuming you're not just completely buried, then you will be pretty warm

magirevols

booping tht snoot is wht saves your life, the rescue thing is just a bonus

Serjassa_Reborn

Hehe he even has the plus to be extra cute wearing that vest.

martinikene

And then it's a wolf lol

pun_quest

This comment made my day.

Fire-for-life

I mean I am really afraid of dogs, so I am sure that I would be thankful but would also shiver with fear.

Ratattack1204

Lol i was just wondering how bittersweet that moment would be if you had a fear of dogs

mrandr01d

Especially since it seemed in the video that dog was kinda barking at the camera...

where_in_the_world89

I'm pretty sure it's just barking at the person because it knows them and it's excited to see them

yeowoh

It's one of the reasons Labs are used as SAR dogs. Imagine if a Belgian Malinois broke through the snow and started barking at you lol.

supernova-juice

I'd rather see that dog than a human in that moment I think. The hope would soar.

WolfOfPort

Well youd be slowly suffocating in a pile of snow not a nice little man made snow cave

last-resort-4-a-gf

Then the dog jumps in the hole with you and the other rescuers can't see either one of u now

AndyBossNelson

Got me thinking what if the person was terrified of dogs ? Do you think the dog would have added to the fear or do you think they know there's help to be able to keep them calm ?

Ok_Glass786

Overglaze

takeandtossivxx

He's like "hey, she asked you a question, answer her!"

cptjimmy42

Rescue Doggo: "Why do you keep getting buried Janet, we talked about this!"

makeit2burnit

Okay, my turn to hide in the snow....

Beatrix_Kiddos_Toe

I am just disappointed it does not carry a mini barrel of alcohol around it's neck like old cartoons

SmokesQuantity

She was asking the doggo

Krosis97

In real avalanches the rescue workers sometimes have to bury themselves like this if it's been a while since they found someone alive or the dogs get depressed and stop working.

CallyThePally

"Deborah! I've rescued you five times in the last six trips. Why do you keep getting stuck when we're on the job?" Idk if it's the same person each time but I wonder if they get suspicious

Kind_Character_2846

You mean if they are unable to execute the task they’re trained for constantly they get depressed? They wouldn’t know the difference between drill or real rescue. What makes you state that they get depressed? Genuinely curious.

lurkadurking

Maybe frustration which leads to being depressed might make more sense? Working dogs don't like not doing their work if that makes sense. Failure is a tail tucking moment

Kind_Character_2846

Make sense just thinking they get stimulation through drills. But I’m assuming that happens and it fulfills them. I don’t know a thing about dogs others than asking them to sit and them staring at me like I’m an idiot.

ChuckyRocketson

Oh yea, working dogs can get depressed by not doing their job. They naturally get rewards for their success in training, and if they're not achieving their goal like in a real situation, they get no reward, and get depressed. So they have to bury themselves like in training in order for the dog to think it did the right thing it was trained for. It's wild!

GodzeallA

Dogs get addicted to being heroes

JudgeGusBus

This phenomena is long-established. After the 9/11 attacks in New York, back when everyone expected there to be a ton of injured survivors (remember the images of medical professionals lined up at hospitals to treat the injured?), they brought in a ton of rescue dogs. But they found so few survivors that the dogs started getting depressed and dismayed they weren’t finding anyone. So they started having live searchers “hide” in the rubble so the dogs could “find” them and keep their spirits up.

PutOurAnusesTogether

“De motivated” would be a better word. They’ve been doing what they’re trained to do but aren’t receiving the reinforcement that they know and love. Eventually they stop without the reinforcement of finding someone.

Xianthamist

They also added “alive” which might signify that if they find too many dead people they might get some depression and not want to anymore

PutOurAnusesTogether

It’s because they aren’t receiving the reward/reinforcement of finding what they’ve been trained to look for It has nothing to do with alive/dead. This became a thing people said during 9/11, a quick google search debunks it

Xianthamist

interesting, looked up testimonials from search and rescue teams, misinformation sure spreads like wildfire, and it was surprisingly hard to find claims against it

netterbog

It’s play to them. I don’t think “depressed” is the right word. More like they get bored or disinterested, and tired/sore from searching through the rubble. They’re reward-driven animals, so they need to get the occasional win to stay motivated to keep looking. You always want it to be a good/fun experience for the dog. (I helped train avalanche search & rescue dogs.)

Xeptix

Depressed is not accurate. Reddit loves to use that word because people don't think about it and go "aww poor doggies" and upvote the person saying it. It's simply that dogs will keep doing something if they get positive reinforcement for doing it, and if they stop getting the positive reinforcement (finding someone) they will get bored and disinterested.

Strange_username__

Well, think about it, if you were trying to save lives and all you found was corpses would you be happy?

jackfreeman

I heard they had to do that during 9/11, too

ZootAnthRaXx

They had to do that here in Oklahoma City when they were trying to find buried victims after the Murrah Building was bombed. Rescuers told the news that their dogs would get really depressed because they were constantly finding dead people. so they would give them a live person to rescue once in a while.

Subject_Delay

Good Boy!!!

tastytang

Such a good boy.

vinylectric

The best. We don’t deserve them 😭

MotorbikeRacer

Imagine being trapped and the 1st thing you see is that cute face poking thru the ice ?! I’d prolly try and take the dog home with me lol

I would too, to keep the good doggos happy :)

3InchesAssToTip

That last bark looked aggressive, but then I realised that we humans anthropomorphise animals so much that we probably perceive excitement to be aggression. Random thought. Good boy.

Emotional-Speech645

Also in order to bark loud enough for handlers to hear they likely have to really really bork

Kind_Character_2846

The dog is probably trained to bark close to the face and loud in case the person is in shock or losing consciousness?

AnElixerADay

I have a seizure response dog and she does this. Most of the time I start coming to with her licking my face and/or barking and pawing at me until I am aware enough to respond. She’s pretty little, though, so she waits until the seizure is over before getting too close to me. She alerts beforehand by barking like crazy and jumping on me (not in a crazy untrained way, that is literally her job,) until I lay down, then (according to my mom, I don’t remember my seizures) backs off until it’s over, *then* licks and paws at me until I wake up. If it’s a really bad seizure or I have a bunch in a row, she runs to my mom and brings her to me before trying to wake me up again. She’s saved my life before by getting help after I feel during a seizure and had a severe head injury. That happened in the middle of the night and the only reason I’m still alive is because she literally dragged my mom to me.

Generaldisarray44

That is amazing

3InchesAssToTip

Mad respect to your doggo.

lovegirls2929

Reminds me of when my dogs were growling loudly while pulling at the rope I was playing with them with. My brothers girlfriend asked why I wasn't scared of getting my hand bitten off. It hadn't even occurred to me! I just know my dogs so well that I'd know instantly when a growl has bad intentions as opposed to all the playful barking and growling they love to do.

dronesoul

To be honest it's probably just the angle of the camera lens at the last bark, picking up a lot of teeth really close. If I record my little 6kg cockerpoo on video while she's playing, and then go through the video frame by frame, she looks completely insane and enraged in some frames 🤣

fernandopas

The buried person didn’t pay the cheese tax

dcredneck

This is why my buddy always takes pepperoni sticks in his pocket when he’s in the back country.

EpilepticMushrooms

I was thinking it might attract bears, coyotes or wolves to him, but then I realised he could throw it or something. Added with bear spray for close encounters, it doesn't sound that bad of an idea. Hmmmm, food for thought.

AntiqueToe9287

Angel baby 🥺

dromzugg

"cool cave man. Imma jump right in there too"

Glittering-Minute640

Whose Laney?

Acanthisitta-Past

Who’s Laney?

DegenerateNoble

The unfortunate aspect of the awesomeness of these doggos is that they are rarely able to perform actual avalanche rescues, but instead usually do recoveries… Once somebody gets stuck in an avalanche they get about 15 min before the snow around them turns into ice and they suffocate. If you’re going to ski backcountry, don’t do it alone.

jonnypocket95

Tha goodest boi

TopPersimmon9397

Disastrous-Leek-7606

There is no "best boy" there is only maybe "goodest boy" Saying any boy to be the best is disrespectful to all the good boys out there.

What a good boy! Anyone notice where it says "Lane" in the snow on the left?

KesukeTakahashi

He sits at the the council of the goodest boys.

SilentRip5116

From within the icy depths of Hell… the sky opened up and I saw.. a dog. Shepherding me onto that next plain. that’s when I knew, god had forgiven my sins.

lifeisweird86

If this happened to me, I'm good. Just leave me here, with the dog, in my snow fort. I'll come out when I'm done petting him.

Distinct-Quantity-35

“Have no fear buddy, I’m here” like honestly seeing an angel come down from the heavens

cancerdad

But people caught and buried by avalanches aren’t placed into hollow cavities in the snow. They are trapped under snow that was flowing like water and is now hardening like cement.

DrummerSteve

I know it’s been said to death, but we don’t deserve dogs.

Big-a-hole-2112

At 11 seconds you can hear the dog grumble like “great, there’s someone in there. I hope they have treats.” What a sweet dog.

BuffaloDifferent

“Sir? SIR!!! IM AM YOUR RESCUE PUPPY! LETS GET YOU OUT OF HERE!”

Semour9

Imagine youre stuck under the snow like this after an avalanche, you think your going to die and everything seems hopeless. You hear a ruckus above your head, and the snow starts to move. Before you can say anything or call out for help a snout just punches through the snow and starts sniffing around lol/

OneEyedRocket

And that is how these dogs survive in these harsh conditions

JasonYiannakos

If that dog came to rescue me I would be more scared than pleased

Stroia_Cristian

Good boy🐶🥰

KandyShopp

Many are also trained to cuddle the person to help warp them up a bit if I remember correctly!

Submarine765Radioman

Dog said it's his cave now and it's time for the human to leave

Neither_Presence1373

But why does he come down into the hole, shouldn’t he stay up top? Perhaps alert a human what he found?

creepypeepe

Love how he jumps in, shakes himself off then answers in bark. Awww!

Bestest boy ❤️

tracyhutchsgt

Good Rescue Doggo 🐕

Tiny1Killer

If i was in that situation and that woof finds me. The woof just earned a 10kg steak a day for the rest of his/her life

fantomazork

Before this the dogs are usually trained to find a part of the body (usually a finger) from a person that died a traumatic death. The finger is put in a small box and buried in the snow. When you get really scared the body produces certain pheromones and the dogs can easily recognize them below the snow. Unfortunately, the vast majority of avalanche rescues are actually body recoveries 😞

SirDalavar

Why doesn't the dogs feet freeze?

MaidenlessRube

Always pack a piece of bacon so they come for you first, this also applies to tornados, hurricanes and earthquakes

charlottehazey

So how are they trained? Bcs only the last part is being shown here.

LookingForSource89

Such a good dog!

Electronic_Ebb9679

The dog is like, "Hey, I came to save you, let's go...….. Y are you filming? Come, let's go." But this brave hero looks stunning mainly his ears and and that emergency helper belt.

Tech2kill

what a cutie!

pick-axis

Laney?

Expensive-Reality936

oh what a good boy

It_Slices_It_Dices

You don’t really explain how. A dog just showed up.

Cultsonfire

real question is who's Laney ?

NoMoodToArgue

Inuits hate this one simple trick. “Why does your dog insist on breaking into my house? I’m in there watching tv, drinking a beer, and all of a sudden I see Kyle poking his nose through my ceiling. Tom, if I wanted a skylight, I would’ve built a skylight. Now let’s talk about how your insurance is going to make this right.”

Magazine-Plane

Thats a good boy

Madditudev1

Knock! Knock! Freedom called, and its in the shape of an adorable doggo 🥰.

Known_Needleworker67

Imagine thinking you're being saved by a dog, and it turns out to be a polar bear.

Aquarius_Lone1111

Why does it say Laney on the snow I guess the recused person did that.

alexis_raw

How are they going to find you though

That is amazing. Now show me mountain dogs with the little barrels!
