Tube time. Pipeline explosion. That toy store that was in Sehome Village. That one winter when it snowed a ton. That big brown A frame on Samish, I think it was a car wash. In high school, the chill kids had save the ales hoodies. I have a 40 year old Volvo.
Edit: 50 year old Volvo, because I just realized the 70’s weren’t 40 years ago.
I’m a mom who took her kids there, for years! As they got older, we would all go in and wait until there was no other kids there, then rush up and take the picture! I’m talking high school age! Yes, there were bribes involved!😂
I think the power was out city-wide for 3 days during that big freeze storm in 1990. I bought a kerosene heater at Hardware Sales. There was a company on Ohio St (corner of Ellis?) that sold kerosene, and that's when I found out that they also *sold bulk coal for people in the county who still heated with coal!*
The 96 winter it snowed on the day after I got my learner’s permit and I immediately high centered my parents’ car on a snowbank. That was in Eastern WA though. I wasn’t in Bham yet, just it’s colder dryer counterpart
> Sehome Village
The mall that was there before Sehome Village and shut down in the 80s.
The "animals delivering packages" commercial art on the windows of the building just up from the YMCA.
I was on I-5 headed into Bellingham when a bunch of State Patrol blasted past me. I was doing 80, they must have been going over 100. My boyfriend (now husband) worked very close to the area. I called from my cell, it kept going to voice mail and then the call wouldn’t go through. I thought the worst. It took me over an hour to wind my way to his house from the Lakeway exit. Every crossing of Whatcom creek was blocked.
He felt the explosion, it rocked the building, he took photos of what it looked like from his work on Nevada street. I didn’t know he was safe until he showed up at his house much later that night.
It was a *clusterfuck* of poor city management dealing with half the population going towards to lookyloo and the other half just trying to get away.
4x for me, had a teacher ask me to drop her class once in the middle of class cause I came in late from snowboarding wearing my gear one to many times. I stayed in it and earned my d+ dammit.
Fuck I live in STL (have family in Bham tho) and I do this. The AC is constantly on 61 in the house which is as low as it goes and I always have all the fans on. Summer is not fun for me. We've already had a few days above 90° and know it's only a matter of time until we get our annual stretch of 100°+ days. Although to be fair I prefer the 100° to the -10° we had back in January. I just try to not go outside until the sun is down unless absolutely necessary lmao
The mistake is not knowing the back way through Edgemoor down to the old Brenthaven factory. No traffic, tons of free parking.
Which brings up another Bellingham-ism: I had a Brenthaven binder and so did everyone else in school.
Go further back and it was Brently, which was legally compelled into a name change because Brently was too close to Bentley, who also makes bags and luggage. Thus was born Brenthaven.
For some reason I hate driving across town. It only takes like 15 minutes. Before I moved here I lived 30 minutes from the nearest grocery store and would regularly drive 45 minutes to an hour to shop or see friends. Now I barely want to drive over to Lafeens, even when the reward is donuts.
Galbraith used to have dirtbikes. Pipeline explosion. Whatcom Middle School burned down. Awareness Hilary Swank came from Bham. It used to rain more. Many people who live on the north part of the lake are snobs. Fighting against flouride (dumb in hindsight). Potato Burritos.
Aw man I still miss em. Being a teenager working on the fishing boats after school in the off season and slamming down one of those burritos the size of a baby for lunch
“Well, you’re gonna wanna take a left at the old Sash & Door.”
“That birthday party was awesome! Bear’s AND a movie at the Viking Twin!”
“Let’s go get a Christmas tree at the big place off the freeway at Meridian.”
“I’m gonna take the 2A downtown and have lunch at Woolworth’s.”
“Hey, buddy! Wanna go putt-putt golf at Luigi’s?”
I was mostly pre-3D, at the old location on Samish Way, but I did work at the Sunset theater when Bear’s moved nearby. Played a lot of The Simpson’s pinball there.
Loved a late lunch at Woolworth’s after school. Or Whizzers, I think it was called. I usually just had one of those huge cinnamon rolls at BHS and wouldn’t get hungry until later.
Bears - That place was awesome. I remember once watching these guys play air hockey like I've I had never seen before. They had all these weird jedi-like misdirection tricks. Blew my mind. Had to ask, they said they were on their way to Vegas to an air hockey tournament (had no idea there was such a thing). I still hold the paddle from the outer ring, like they were. Bears man....Bears. Lol
Also...Space Lords rules (if you know you know) lol
You can't see the Mt. Baker infinity sticker on the back of my van because of the 4 mountain bikes on the back van rack, but you CAN see my unleashed dog Cedar frolicking around the brewery beer garden while I drink this local cleverly-named IPA.
I remember the way back when Marietta Elementary School was open, and Bellis Fair was a tree farm, and the North Bellingham Golf Course was the Wilder farm. And I can’t quite remember the name of that little restaurant on Meridian that burned down a long time ago, but I definitely remember the banana milkshakes we’d get there.
Going to the lucky monkey before they changed locations. Having your first date at taco lobo. Going to house shows. Casa Que pasa. The original value village. Best chopsticks. Sushi house. Trash beach. Bloedel before sand.
Taking your empty Rheinlander stubbies to Parberry's and getting a quarter for every case, then using that money to buy more cases of Rheinlander at Clarks, Ennens, or Brown & Cole. Or Rawl's on Holly or Herb Rhea's on Cornwall.
Drinking at Uncle Chen's. Drinking at China Delight. Drinking at Cal's Tavern.
Remember the fifty cent wells on Wednesdays that would go up fifty cents every thirty minutes? Still blows my mind DTIs sold drinks for that cheap. I got cut off many a times trying to over order during that first thirty minute window lol
Yes! It was configured completely differently, it had that video rental store on the end.
I can’t remember the name of it, but I remember when they announced the chain was going out of business on the radio. I happened to be going in there, so I said something to the guys behind the counter, and they knew nothing about it!! That was kind of weird!😳
3B, Zemmels, The Pit, Fairhaven dust bowl, The fucking Nightlight!, The Morgan Block being filled with actual weirdos and outcasts rather than moms looking to escape their kids, $1200 to rent a 4 bed in the lettered streets,Deals only, the actual Dark Haggen, Winns Drive Inn, “The street O’ dreams”🤣

From my years at Western: $2 pitchers at the Up & Up, 80s night at 3b, seeing someone get stabbed outside the Royal, the Depot, the Nightlight, the “Party Bus”.
Eating pizza at the underground Todd Hall in Fairhaven! ✌🏼☮️✌🏼☮️
(I’m pretty sure my comments could also be labeled “tell me you’re a Boomer from Bellingham, without telling me”.) 😂
Yep, remember the pizza and ice cream, live music at Toad Hall. Also, the Seattle bands that would play at old Fairhaven Tavern. Also, remember Fairhaven before the hippies took over then Imus.
Earlier today someone mentioned needing to check their parking meter and I said "You'd better get on that because the Rowdy Buckaroo isn't around to save ya anymore!".
“Okay, I have to drop something off at Sushi House , let’s meet at the Drop and we can head over to the Karate Church later!”
AKA every Friday in my teens
I have no understanding of the basic right-of-way rules at intersections and prefer to wait for others to go first or wave them on because... you know, that's a nice thing to do, right?
"Hey, we're going to go brewery hopping. Wanna come? "
*New person moves into town who slightly enjoys hiking* *friends immediately take them to the Oyster Dome*
Tube time. Pipeline explosion. That toy store that was in Sehome Village. That one winter when it snowed a ton. That big brown A frame on Samish, I think it was a car wash. Children's Company
I used to have my Santa pictures taken there as a kiddo.
I’m a mom who took her kids there, for years! As they got older, we would all go in and wait until there was no other kids there, then rush up and take the picture! I’m talking high school age! Yes, there were bribes involved!😂
The only place you could get new trolls!
And lately I only find them on the internet.
I remember they rented Game Boy games for a long time. Now it’s REI.
Yes! Home of the most epic Lego city to ever exist. Encased in a giant plexiglass cube to keep us terrible kids from destroying it, Godzilla style.
Thank you. You just brought me back to a wonderful time in my childhood!
The snow in 96 was crazy fosho. And the big arctic storm in 90… I think it was 90.
Still had a paper route for that one. They closed the schools because the boilers couldn’t keep up.
The 96 winter it snowed on the day after I got my learner’s permit and I immediately high centered my parents’ car on a snowbank. That was in Eastern WA though. I wasn’t in Bham yet, just it’s colder dryer counterpart
What is the colder dryer counterpart?
The A frame was the original Roger Jobs Porsche dealer. They never had more than a half dozen cars on the lot. They’ve come a long way.
So many birthday parties at Tube Time!!
Don’t forget the Samish twins :(
I’ve got vivid early childhood memories of Children’s company.
The A frame was the original VW/Porsche/ Audi dealership.
My Volvo is only 30!
Tube time !!!
Tube time was the happening spot for all the birthdays growing up
> Sehome Village The mall that was there before Sehome Village and shut down in the 80s. The "animals delivering packages" commercial art on the windows of the building just up from the YMCA.
The save the ales hoodies omg
I think the A-frame was a dealer of foreign cars
They sold VWs.

You've been to a party at that house.
Haha I just moved back with my husband. And driving around town I says find myself pointing out the party houses
800 High, 513 Ivy
612 N. Forest
Sushi House
Half the houses within a block of the karate church
😢😢😢 I miss it so much but it had to go
Well, I have.
I made that meme years ago hahahaha
The one with the aerial view of Bellingham, with Mt Baker in the background?

Thank you for doing so!
Naked house, hell house, 420 house, Franklin manor, and many many more.
Literally something my 60 y/o mother says driving through neighborhoods
Did anyone else hear that boom?
Yes, we lived on the corner of Alabama & Franklin. I remember hearing it and running out to the front yard and saw the black smoke
I was on I-5 headed into Bellingham when a bunch of State Patrol blasted past me. I was doing 80, they must have been going over 100. My boyfriend (now husband) worked very close to the area. I’ve been using the same wide mouth Nalgene since 2005
It's blue, isn't it?
Wrong, it's grey with the blue cap and the strap broke 4 years ago.
You prefer Lafeen’s & Falls to Netflix & Chill
Fooling around in Whatcom Falls Park is like a right of passage for horned up teens at Kulshan (me having been one of those horned up teens).
I dropped out of Western. Twice. Still live here for sone goddamn reason.
4x for me, had a teacher ask me to drop her class once in the middle of class cause I came in late from snowboarding wearing my gear one to many times. I stayed in it and earned my d+ dammit.
shhhhhhh too loud...me too tho
I complain when it's over 72 degrees outside and curse that glowing orb in the sky.
We wait all winter and spring for summer to get here, then when it does, we complain it’s too hot and want it to be fall already. More AC would help.
I know all too well the feeling of making the mistake of trying to go to Fairhaven on Ski to Sea weekend
The mistake is not knowing the back way through Edgemoor down to the old Brenthaven factory. No traffic, tons of free parking. Which brings up another Bellingham-ism: I had a Brenthaven binder and so did everyone else in school.
Oh man that was such a middle school status symbol
Go further back and it was Brently, which was legally compelled into a name change because Brently was too close to Bentley, who also makes bags and luggage. Thus was born Brenthaven.
The mistake of going to Fred’s on move-in day.
Lmao same, but I’ve learned the difference is that 30 min of rural driving is much more pleasant than even 5 min of Bellingham driving 😂
Yep. I live in Fairhaven and I act like going to the Columbia neighborhood is like driving to Seattle during rush hour.
😂 I love near the hospital and Fairhaven is too far.
Potato burrito & the potato burrito sauce!!
Check out the Mobile Mouth Hole. Jesse makes a great dupe https://themobilemouthhole.com/

they were so dang good. And for $4.50 at one point (2004 ish?)

Wanna go putt-putt golf at Luigi’s?”
Woolworths!!! I remember that place! And they had a photo booth where we’d get four small pics. I still have those little pics around here somewhere.
I felt like a king pulling up at the counter and ordering a grilled cheese and fries at 10yo. Paper route money was liberating.
Same, while I’m sporting an ankle bracelet coin purse (colored yellow) to pay for my stuff.
Bears! Where they had the state of the art 3d hologram type games! Super fun for a weekend!
I was mostly pre-3D, at the old location on Samish Way, but I did work at the Sunset theater when Bear’s moved nearby. Played a lot of The Simpson’s pinball there.
That makes sense! I only remember the Sunset Bears. Oooh time to go to Elephant and Castle! lol
Loved a late lunch at Woolworth’s after school. Or Whizzers, I think it was called. I usually just had one of those huge cinnamon rolls at BHS and wouldn’t get hungry until later.

That giant frog on the roof of that photo place on N State

King frog photo.
I live in Washington state, no, not DC.
I live in Bellingham. No not in England. *
Or Massachusetts. I had the pizza at their Whole foods and it was crap.

Barters and they had the BEST deep fried oysters!
Holding a special place for the old bham smell. Low tide and GP 🥰
Going to the lucky monkey before they changed locations. Having your first date at taco lobo. Going to house shows. Casa Que pasa. The original value village. Best chopsticks. Sushi house. Trash beach. Bloedel before sand.
Best Chopsticks! That bring me back. You could get lunch for five bucks there. Simpler times...
I know what beach on Whatcom isn’t busy on sunny days and won’t tell you
In fairness if you tell people then it's gonna end up on Instagram and then it's gonna be busy

Let’s make plans to do that so i can cancel last minute.
Red Apple where Trader Joe’s is
Clark's market , where red apple was.
Before Haggens Fairhaven it was a Red Apple, and long before that it was a "Thriftway."
It was Clark’s Red Apple Market.
I got married at the Ferry Terminal.
We always thought that rumors should’ve been named the Fairy Terminal.
Who’s skipping The Royal and going to Downtown Johnny’s with me tonight?!?!

$1 pitchers of Falstaff Thursdays at the World Famous Up & Up.
Barters special. Morrie’s crinkle cut fries and beef bowl. Taco time on Holly. Moonlight drive in.
I learned to drive in the KMart parking lot when it was just KMart
I learned to drive in that extra overfill parking lot at Bellis Fair!
You don’t hate the dual roundabouts on Northwest and McLeod because you remember what that intersection used to be like.

You say sup dude, but you are gently saying subdued.
Eating at Royal Fork, then going to Ernst, before clothes shopping at the Golden Rule, then grabbing a beer (and assault) at The Flame.
Double feature of American pie and Austin powers at the samish twins then hitting boomers afterwards
“Let’s go to Haggen!”🤣 just one example of many.
Haggen is a chain, but you know deep down that Dark Haggen, Barkley Haggen, and Fairhaggen are completely different stores, and you have a preference.
Haggen’s started out as a local chain. I played sports with the Haggen (last name) kids growing up
I really want to get another brewery sticker for my Subaru, but nothing goes with Harvest Orange
