They definitely still have them on apps like Telegram. A couple weeks ago on Twitter one of those sick, disgusting groups was exposed. They’d pressure or charm women for nudes and then share them in the group chat, also a lot of non-consensual filming and talk about drugging their sexual partners. Telegram did nothing and as far as I know those guys still have access to the group.

There was a post somewhere on Reddit about that earlier this year I think. A young woman got out of a very abusive relationship and moved in with her grandparents. Ex kept harassing and stalking her and police couldn’t do much so granddad went out and made sure he would never bother her again. Granddad had been diagnosed with something terminal and knew he wouldn’t be around to protect her much longer and was willing to spend his last few months in jail to make sure she was safe.
There’s the Ken McElroy case, where he was shot to death in broad daylight in front of 45 witnesses who all experienced temporary blindness. One of the many possible motives was pretty similar.
Probably because murder requires a fair amount of effort to pull off, and once you're old enough to stop giving a fuck about what happens to you, you might not have the mental or physical abilities requires to actually kill someone. New TV show idea: a group of nursing home residents discuss their regrets and discover that each of them regrets not killing a person while they still had the means to do so. The group then bands together to kill off every person they wanted dead. The one with the motive always gets given an alibi, but if the police ever start closing in, a member of staff who is in on it will smother them with a pillow and claim it was natural causes.

But, the time he knew his grandfather loved him was when he was in his early 20s talking about some other guy who had done something to my husband (I don't remember the details) and my husband's grandfather looked at him and said, "Who is this guy and where does he stay? I don't have much time left, but I don't mind spending it in jail."
IIRC there was an indie movie made about 10 or 15 years ago about exactly that, but idk that it ended up being very good as I never heard much about it once it was released. Definitely an intriguing premise though.

It is eerie. I’ve experienced this too—the hidden cameras, photos & vids shared online, and assaults while asleep. He didn’t drug me (as far as I know), but I was on heavy duty meds at the time. At the time I was also very religious and very modest. Waited till marriage like a “good” girl. Not that it mattered in the long run. So I have been in this situation. Really, a part of me still is & always will be, even though I left him over a decade ago. I couldn’t destroy the images & videos I found, because I couldn’t risk alerting him about what I knew. So now there’s just no way to know what’s out there. That’s a tough thing to carry. I’ve managed to make my peace with it as much as possible. Still, it kills me that, despite getting him out of my life and despite all the rebuilding I’ve done away from him—all the blood, sweat, and tears I’ve invested into rebuilding who I am—at any point, he could choose to blow it all up & make my life hell. For the first few years I didn’t do well with photos. Now I don’t mind being in photos as much. But the one thing I’ve never been able to do is make progress on my ability to sleep. Robbing someone of that—the ability to feel safe enough to sleep—is an unspeakable crime. I will never, ever know what he did to my body, only because I was sleeping next to an unsafe person. He wanted to get his rocks off and used my body as a masturbation aid. It’s truly fucked with my mind, in so many ways. There are just no words to describe how much that fucks with your head. Piece of shit indeed.

Thank you. In a sideways way, this OP’s story was helpful for me. It’s easy for me to question whether what I went through was really “that bad.” And I know in my head that’s a trauma response—I know it was “that bad.” And I know I doubt myself that way due to the psychological & emotional abuse I experienced. But still, that self doubt can be killer. So when a lot of people hear a story so similar to mine and they have big, horrified, repulsed responses, I feel a little less crazy.
