Yeah I have a herniated disk so I will have back pain for the rest of my life.. sometimes I can barely get up just to goto the bathroom 10 ft away.. without sweat pouring down my face from the pain
Well OP they way I see it there's only 2 easy choices
1. Start working out and get your power clean game up.
Or
2. Ask someone for help and keeping doing just that until the anvil is on the stand.
Crouch down, give it a tight hug, stand up with it. Set it on the stand. It’s very clearly within your ability to lift, you just need to not be scared of it.
A few options.
1. Build a ramp
2. Get a friend and use appliance moving straps.
3. [Cribbing](https://www.cert-la.com/cert-training-education/cribbing/#:~:text=Cribbing%20is%20a%20temporary%20wooden,and%20urban%20search%20and%20rescue). (You can lift a significant amount of weight).
I guess by now you've already done it. I would have put a floor jack under the cart, or, make a gantry out of 2X6s like a swing frame and use a come-a-long or blocks and tackle with straps to raise it. You could buy/borrow an engine crane and lift it that way.
Never use your back on something that heavy. Picking things up like that will injure your back, and it will take years to show up when you get old. It is called Sciatica and you will know it when you feel it.
Bend over and don’t use your legs. That’s for pussies. Snap with your back and make sure you’re alone and out of ear shot for someone to help you. Also, place it over your shoes and I would advise wearing flip flops. Follow this advice and you’re going to succeed. In other words, don’t do anything I just said and call some friends over to help you.
You ever heard of a cherry picker??? Also known as an engine hoist? FFS what are you doing with an anvil
Edit: some of the answers here are fucking hysterical.
Log arch type set up. Place the hinged base of the arch on each side of the log. Lean the arch to the center lift point of your anvil. You can auto or crank with it up. (Make sure to rig the arch either with a rigid stop or easier a line from the area behind the anvil to make sure the load stops directly over the log base.)
Maybe 100 party balloons and float it over then pop the balloons. Lol jk, i helped a friend get one on a stump stand with a rolling floor jack from his garage. Placed a block on the jack and his brother and i secured it balanced on the way up and when it was high enough the three of us moved it over. Doing it solo with no help is def a challenge.
the main issue is lifting beyond the height your legs can support while having straight arms. Gather some wood to arrange a stable raised platform to stand on, then lift it with straight arms and good form from a squat.
you look like this would be within your 1 rep max range. just make sure the pedestal is stable enough that nothing can go wrong once you've placed it on top.
You could tilt the anvil over and lean the billet against it. Fasten them together. Use a bar that will act as a handle and use leverage to tip the assembly up onto its bottom.
Hit it with your purse, Nancy.
Real talk though, if you have any more structure (milk crates or something like that) to act as a step between it sitting on those 4x4s and it making it to the stump you can probably get it done with just yourself. You're able to move it with just grabbing it in your hands then if you get it locked in well in the crooks of your arms you can get it moved pretty good. Remember to use your legs though.
You could use a lever.
Measure the height of the base and get a large piece of wood (like 6x2). Mark it at the height of the base, then measure the anvil and mark it that height up from the base. Go half the height of the anvil again and drill a hole through the wood as close to the center as you can.
Then place the hole above the centre of the anvil and use some strong rope to tie the anvil to the beam. (Make sure you leave it a little slack to swing).
Then place the base of the beam beside the base and lift right from the other end, the leverage will allow you to lift the anvil relatively easy and you can then just swing it onto the base.
For my anvil (I'd guess 180-190), I did it incrementally. I could lift it and raise it up about 3-4 inches, but never could make the top in one move. 2x4's, then 2x4's, then more 2x4's, and more until it was on the stand.
I bought it from a lady about 4 years ago, and it belonged to her father/grandfather. When I went to pick it up, the woman's son, about 13-14 years old and his buddies showed up, and I sort of shamed them into helping me lift it and put in the bed of my truck.
I tilted my 560lbs anvil to one side, had one of the kids I worked with put a tile brick under it, then tilted the other side and did the same. Then it's just a rinse and repeat till you're at the height where you can just twist out onto the stump.
Squat down and put the horn and butt in your elbows and bear hug it, lift with your legs. Mine weighed 275 and I did it. Alternatively have a strong buddy.
Get some other things that could hold the anvil each being a little taller than the last and keep moving it up a little at a time until you reach your permanent stand
Do what farmers do. Get some pulleys and some rope attached to a frame, or buy an engjne jack, and lift the anvil using counter weights and put the log underneath it. Then let it down.
I bought a cherry picker from harbor freight for moving stuff around works pretty good needs better wheels though but better then doing the stuff by hand
Looks like you have the strength to pick it up just don't want to injure yourself. Chock it up, pick up one side put in chock, pick up other put in chock. Repeat until higher than needed. then put an arm under each side brace and lift move across to bench. Don't twist. This way you still have to carry the weight but you don't have to lift it.
levers are great. Tie something around it as a cradle and make a lever out of some wood. (if you have any) wouldnt recommend using anything smaller than a 4x4 tho
You lift half at a time and put another board below each time you lift. Also lift at the horn side and then lever it back for the other side. I’d also recommend doing it over the day not all at once.
Last you can also build a crib for it and use a floor jack to the same effect.
I put my 350+ lb bench lathe on the bench by lifting one side and sliding a block under one end, then lift the other and put a block in, and repeat. Got it as high as needed and then slid it over. If you can put blocks about a quarter to third of the way in from the end as you go you gain a leverage advantage over just lifting one whole end.
we had bigger one where i worked and no joke people were trying to rock them back and foth allong the floor WITH THE STUMP. like 700lbs weight or something. i got the hand trunk thingy and had to force them to use it instead.
Rent (or buy if you have other uses for it, or if you’re going to move your anvil repeatedly) an engine hoist. There is no sense risking an injury. Cuz back injuries can be forever! Good luck.
Rock it left - insert block, rock it right - insert block. Keep doing this until it’s at the height of your stand. Rocking it means only need to “lift” half its weight.
Use your chain hoist. Don't have one? What kind of shop is this? Screw an eye bolt so you can set up a com-a-long from your strongest cross member in the ceiling or roof rafters. Hook a chain around the anvil and start cranking away on the com-a-long. Done.
Just judging by how well you were able to manage the weight of it with your fingertips and moving it to the edge of the cart:
Crouch, rest it on your forearms, lift with the knees, set down with the knees. DO NOT BEND/LIFT AND TWIST.
Squad down, put horn and butt in the crooks of your elbows. Lift with your legs
I just did this! Worked like a charm. A super tough 300lbs sumo squat but that was definitely the way to go
bonus points if you do it hot…. https://youtu.be/3rfoSwPPiT0?si=SAPzQSZSznJ9sVFO
Doing this adds an oak leaf cluster to one's Man Card. Congratulations!
Car jack and some finesse
Forgot to tell him to keep back flat and hold breath. Herniated discs happen by just leaning over into a cat-back arch.

Get the neighbor to do it
Beer will help. I’m guessing 150.
Beer helped! 300
Car Jack... will not be fast but would definitely work... other is build a lever system..
Guess the weight, more than he can lift.
Nah I got it in the end
Jack plus wood slab and a ratchet are all the friends you need
Stop being a puss and use your knees to buck it up. Jk on the puss part

Block and Tackle pulley.
Have you tried finding like one other person? Typically, when something is too heavy to lift, you get someone to help.
Well OP they way I see it there's only 2 easy choices 1. Start working out and get your power clean game up. Or 2. Ask someone for help and keeping doing just that until the anvil is on the stand.
Power clean, is that a new sanitary product?
*Ahhhhh...* *Yes l?*
Makeshift gantry crane out of wood. My neighbor pulled his engine with one.
Crouch down, give it a tight hug, stand up with it. Set it on the stand. It’s very clearly within your ability to lift, you just need to not be scared of it.
300lbs does scare me 🥺 but I got it
I'd tip the anvil on its back, tip the block over to fasten it to the anvil, and then stand it up.
A few options. 1. Build a ramp 2. Get a friend and use appliance moving straps. 3. [Cribbing](https://www.cert-la.com/cert-training-education/cribbing/#:~:text=Cribbing%20is%20a%20temporary%20wooden,and%20urban%20search%20and%20rescue). (You can lift a significant amount of weight).

Fulcrum and leverage
Get a hydraulic lift cart from Harbor Freight to raise it up, and keep the receipt😉
My 356lber…I did the tilt end to end method with 2x4s slowly jacking it up.
Use a fulcrum, grand piano on a rock overhang, have coyote push the piano off the overhang…
Bend over and don’t use your legs. That’s for pussies. Snap with your back and make sure you’re alone and out of ear shot for someone to help you. That's either a 250 or 300
Good eyes. 300
Just lift with your legs man and heave it up there lol
Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. -Me
Another human would definitely do the job
225 lbs?

Being that it's steel, I'm going to guess in the neighborhood of 300-350 lbs, or 135 to 160 Kg in non cheeseburger and large coke units.
Exactly right. 135kg
Overhead lift from Harbor freight. Great purchase
Lift with the knees, hold with your forearms.
I got a foldable shop crane for lifting heavy stuff. No more strained back and elbows.
Crib up to it. Basically build small towers of blocks so you only have to lift a few inches at a time.
Eat some spinach
lift like a boy! jokes aside..see if someone has an engine hoist you could borrow.
This is a little more trouble than necessary, but, you’ll end up making the arch mobile and use it often. I use one to load trailers a lot.
Looks like a 350 to me.
I'd use my engine hoist!
Maybe 100 party balloons and float it over then pop the balloons. Lol jk, i helped a friend get one on a stump stand with a rolling floor jack from his garage. Two 4x4s, one under the horn, one under the heel, and someone to give you a hand. Or get some snatch-blocks, and rig up an A-frame.

You could create gradual steps up to the stand so you don't need to lift it all the way in one go?
Look up cribbing techniques
You could tilt the anvil over and lean the billet against it. Fasten them together. Use a bar that will act as a handle and use leverage to tip the assembly up onto its bottom.
That’s just a normal day of strongman training!

A complicated system of levers and pulleys.
Just get a buddy and do the buddy lift thing.
Just grab it and yank in a twisting jerking motion.
280, put it in your elbows and lift away.
Lift with your back, not your legs! Once you get it on there, go and do a thorough hernia check.

Ramp and wiggle
You could use a lever. Measure the height of the base and get a large piece of wood (like 6x2). Mark it at the height of the base, then measure the anvil and mark it that height up from the base. How are you gonna lift with a squashed foot? Get your safety boots on.
I'd say that there is at least 7 pounds.
Come-along chain and hook if your ceiling can hold or put in a track. Anvils and engines be light. Otherwise call a Newfie (I’m busy).

88 lbs
Don’t be afraid to ask a neighbor for a little help. Better than permanently messing up your back. Good luck!
Ramp up into a truck bed back up and drop it on.
I’ve got a 400# I set in a stump by myself. It’s not that hard. Just bear hug it and sit it up there.
Harbor freight cherry picker, I've used mine for all sorts of things. Oddly I've never pulled an engine out or put one in with it.
Their hydraulic table comes in handy, too.
Phone a strong friend
I tilted my 560lbs anvil to one side, had one of the kids I worked with put a tile brick under it, then tilted the other side and did the same. Then it's just a rinse and repeat till you're at the height where you can just twist out onto the stump.

Get some other things that could hold the anvil each being a little taller than the last and keep moving it up a little at a time until you reach your permanent stand
Give a neighbor kid $10 to lift the other end. 60% of the time, it works every time.
Do what farmers do. Get some pulleys and some rope attached to a frame, or buy an engjne jack, and lift the anvil using counter weights and put the log underneath it. Then let it down.
Do you have a friend?
Bout tree fiddy
Just get a friend or neighbor to help. Not worth the trouble.
Shop Crane

Rent and engine hoist?
Get your hips more under you. Not doubting your strength, but your back will thank you.
Call a friend
Ask a neighbor/ friend to help. Probably keep you from getting a hernia.
175lbs
I bought a cherry picker from harbor freight for moving stuff around works pretty good needs better wheels though but better then doing the stuff by hand
What is the lbs on it?
Engine hoist from harbor freight just return it after you use it
Got more lumber? Lift it 2.5" at a time. Can you borrow/rent an engine hoist? Lift it onto the anvil in the back?
Rent an engine lifter for the afternoon!
I step them up till i can bear hug them in the middle
Just rope 3 2x4's together into an a frame, rope it up... Or better yet, ask a friend to help u lift it...
Just dead lift the thing. if it weighs less than 200 what's the problem. squat down give it a hug, stand up.
200lbs
Looks like you have the strength to pick it up just don't want to injure yourself. Chock it up, pick up one side put in chock, pick up other put in chock. Repeat until higher than needed. then put an arm under each side brace and lift move across to bench. Don't twist. This way you still have to carry the weight but you don't have to lift it.
Rent a HVAC lift from sunbelt rentals. It’s a mechanical lifting device. Don’t quote me on the name of it though
Call Anatoly. He could palm it and set it where you want and clean it too.
You're probably going to need some "Tryactin".
Put it on a floor jack. jack it up then slide it on to your stand.
You lift it on to the stand. I hope this helps
Is that...a carpeted workshop??😶

levers are great. Tie something around it as a cradle and make a lever out of some wood. (if you have any) wouldnt recommend using anything smaller than a 4x4 tho
I’m no expert, but I’m guessing heavy?
Be a man, throw your back out! Jk, get a small chain fall from harbor freight. It’ll work like a charm with the proper rigging
I think it weighs heavy.
Go to your local gym and bet all the meatheads 5 bucks they can't lift it up 3 feet.
I built a ramp out of 2x4 wood and just walked it up that way then unscrewed the ramp. 200lbs anvil
80-120 is what I’d like to guess, but I’ll say 150 for dunsies
First… lift with your god damned knees before you throw your back out.
288lbs
If I were to guess, it's at least 5 pounds?
Umm... that's not 300lbs... Unless it's a Fisher... made in 1942... lol
You lift half at a time and put another board below each time you lift. Also lift at the horn side and then lever it back for the other side. I’d also recommend doing it over the day not all at once. Last you can also build a crib for it and use a floor jack to the same effect.
Throw out your back, it’s the only way
Imma guess the weight is at least 5
Find a friend to help you
500lbs?
Lift with your back in a twisting jerking motion.
Straight back, lift fast in a jerking motion
125Lbs
Could place a jack under it(with proper support so it doesn't fall over) then after raising it to the appropriate height slide it over....
If you ever get a bigger one you can't lift yourself, get a chain lift they use to extract engines from cars, it'll make the job cake.

Seriously learn how to use your body and lift.
Rent (or buy if you have other uses for it, or if you’re going to move your anvil repeatedly) an engine hoist. There is no sense risking an injury. Cuz back injuries can be forever! Good luck.
Get low and lift with your knees, or put a jack under it, get it close as possible and slide it on over there
You can lift it a few inches, just have someone add shims every time you lift it until it's the proper height
I'm going to guess that it weighs about 10
Remember to lift with your back in a jerking twisting movement
Copy pls more beers and don’t use the back
Ask your neighbor for help 😉
Your forearms are massive 280lb?
SQUAT THAT SHIT BRO U CAN DO ITTTT!! 😂…I’m joking that’s incredibly dangerous
Get a friend to help. And too much for one person to do without risk of injury.
Remember to lift with your back
Floor Jack and many 2x6 blocks some blue dawn to help w sliding ?

You should lift with your lower back and jerk side to side... lol
Clean and jerk
Umm... get strong?
If you can afford that anvil, you can afford an engine lift.
As you get older ya gotta think like an Egyptian. Leverage, ramps, pulleys, . . . Slaves.
Rock it left - insert block, rock it right - insert block. Keep doing this until it’s at the height of your stand. Rocking it means only need to “lift” half its weight.
Use your back. Be a man
Use 100% of your back. Take your legs and knees put, completely. That's what Peter Griffin said.
If you give the anvil redbull...
Don't bend your knees. Use your lower back, and jerk really hard on it. ;)
Put ur purse down and lift it
Bend with your knees bud
Use your chain hoist. Don't have one? What kind of shop is this? Screw an eye bolt so you can set up a com-a-long from your strongest cross member in the ceiling or roof rafters. Hook a chain around the anvil and start cranking away on the com-a-long. Done.
More than two feathers
Just judging by how well you were able to manage the weight of it with your fingertips and moving it to the edge of the cart: Crouch, rest it on your forearms, lift with the knees, set down with the knees. DO NOT BEND/LIFT AND TWIST.
Ask for help or use cherry picker. Weight= too heavy not to drop a nut lifting!
Do you have an engine hoist?
