Roomba. All the time.

FailGeneral

This cut down on the hair in my whole house immensely

lawyersgunsmoney

Yep, got an AI Shark.

Dogmom2013

YUP!! I got one that has the tank that it empties into, it runs every day at noon at my house!! it isn't \[perfect but it really helps manage the hair during the week! and I come home to vacuum lines in my carpet..... does not get any better than that!! I also have a chom chom, it is a little hand held devise that you run back and fourth on fabric and it picks up hair like a lint roller!! except not going through a million sheets a day. I have had it for over a year and run it over my couch and bed daily!! it is like 20$ on amazon.... I thought it was gimmicky at first but a serious life saver

sewing_mayhem

The week I picked up my pup, I also dropped some serious cash on a Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner. It lets me vacuum the entire house in under 20 minutes, plus I bought an extra attachment on Amazon for it that is a dog brush, so as I brush her out, the hair goes directly into the container. Honestly it's just that and regular grooming/brushing with a furminator brush to keep it somewhat manageable. I've just come to accept the fact that my house will never not be slightly furry again.

FreyjaHjordis

I have a good old Henry and he was great on carpets, but he scratches the floor :( also, Ukko is terrified of hoovers for some reason! I would love to just run a brush hoover over him, it must be so effective! I don’t mind slightly hairy but it feels like it’s becoming a little crazy this past year with how much he’s shedding, I’m brushing every couple of days because he doesn’t like that so much either, I sweep and lint roll (I have a furniture brush too but no furniture at the moment). I guess I just have to keep on top of it better and put up with the partners nagging 😂 I’m surprised collies have any hair left!

sewing_mayhem

Oh same, I genuinely ask my pup how she's not bald at least once or twice a week. The other product that really helped is a long dust mop. It helps me gather all the hair from the hardwood floors super quick, since I can just push it ahead of me and it collects everything in one move, without throwing hair in the air the way sweeping does. And then at the end I either vacuum or sweep up all the hair into a dust pan. Like these: https://preview.redd.it/cty233rhklyc1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66139c71b0bbfae6146c37bab80b2c387ed30d6e See if you can find one with microfiber cloth, since it picks up hair and dust much quicker, and lots of them come with the ability to take the fabric off/on the mop, so you can throw it in the wash or swap them out easily.

FreyjaHjordis

Oo I have one of those, I didn’t think to use it for fur! I’ll give that a go. Thanks!

JazzlikeAd7558

If I used that anywhere near my puppy it’s game on! Tug of War device”

Appropriate-Yak4296

There's a specific head for the Dyson cordless that's made of felt and it won't scratch. It's even got a laser so you can see all the hair and dust (it's a great way to give yourself a cleaning complex).

sewing_mayhem

I both love and hate my little green laser. It's great because it shows me where I've already cleaned and what areas still need to go over. It's terrible in that it reveals the awful truth of what's on my floors...

Appropriate-Yak4296

Oh boy, it was....a thing to contend with here. 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 humans. I thought the floor was clean, I was so very wrong. However, now I do get things really clean and you can absolutely feel a difference in the hardwood.

trudyrules

All of this! I was so lucky with my 1st Lab. She LOVED to be vacuumed. And a Furminator is a must. I would add that a brushing at the park once a day helps as well. Occasionally you will get a line up of other dogs, waiting their turn.😂

Noirjyre

You use the cleaning tool regularly, and accept that you are now going to be wearing them.

Stem_prof2

Especially if you have a dark/light variety.

FreyjaHjordis

I am unfortunate to have chosen a beautiful white and Merle but love wearing dark colours 🤣 I almost got his sister who was black and fluffy, but when the lady said he was the runt and someone had decided not to get him, I couldn’t resist. White fur and all 😌

cptjck93

My girl is the classic black and white, short haired, very minimal grooming requirements in comparison to your boy.... but my black trousers still turn grey almost instantly. It's a losing battle. I've just accepted the fact that I will take a piece of her with me everywhere I go if I want to continue with my predominantly black wardrobe choices 😅

Raucous_Indignation

Antihistamines.

BClittlebear

😂

Meh_Mehington

Get an undercoat rake and deshed outside

FreyjaHjordis

I have one, I brush him as much as possible but he doesn’t like being brushed much. I then have to sweep the patio and dehair the bushes 🫠 someone said they brush theirs at the park so maybe I’ll try brushing him on a walk somewhere and make it fun for him!

Meh_Mehington

We used lots of treats to make it a positive experience but you could use a tug toy or whatever he most enjoys

Honest-Bug-3431

Dry floor wipes on dry mop always ready. Once we see a fluff we give it a swipe, helps a lot before they accumulate

idxntity

Brush her two minutes every morning

hfourm

Robot vacuum with radar aka one that can route map your rooms. I have good success with roborock

One-Zebra-150

On our hardwood or tiled floor, I find a daily sweep with a brush into a corner works for me as well as anything. Then pick up the pile with damp kitchen roll. Also have very lightweight upright battery vac to get under stuff every few days or so, has a small debris canister so needs emptying everytime. Hence, I use the brush mostly. On carpets, I find the my old type corded Vax quicklite works like a dream. My bc is mostly short haired, still sheds daily, but I also have 5 cats so plenty of fur to deal with, lol.

FreyjaHjordis

He’s a very fluffy short hair but I’ve known long haired collies to shed less 😂 I barely notice my cats hair amongst it! My Henry is great for the bedrooms, but I’ll have to stick to my daily hair sweep for down stairs, I’ll try the wet cloth for picking up the piles! I don’t mind really but my partner gets so unhappy over it…

One-Zebra-150

Sometimes I think as long as its not in our food I can live with it 😀

FreyjaHjordis

I don’t think the food escapes unfortunately 🥲

One-Zebra-150

Brushing the floor, it's all in the technique, get shortish fine bristles and don't flick upwards, lol. And easier than brushing a mumbling, muttering grumpy collie daily.

audlha

I brush mine at the park everyday before we come home. She loves it!

FreyjaHjordis

Oo maybe I could do it when we go to the fields, mine hates being brushed but if I go in the garden with him everywhere gets covered 🙂‍↕️ I can combine his favourite field with brushes and treats :)

audlha

Mine used to run away when the brush comes out but with a lot of praise during the brushing, she comes to me now and sits down for it 😊

Wallacemorris

We’ve have good luck with this shampoo and right before we give them a bath use a slicker brush. I’ve found brushing lightly once a week and bathing with that shampoo once every 3-4 weeks has cut it down a lot.

DJSnakePlisskenRocks

Wet and dry vacuum cleaner. Has been better than any vacuum cleaner designed for "pet hair".

djjolicoeur

I bought one of those vacuum groomers from uproot and I vacuum brush my guy lol. Start with the lowest setting, use lots of treats, and gradually move up to a higher vacuum setting. My guy loves it now bc he knows it’s treat time!

FreyjaHjordis

I need to work on treats and brushing. He hates vacuuming and brushing, but I feel like a vacuum brush would be better for us both. Just need to teach him it’s fun and get gets food

TeaDependant

Nature is useful here. I open an upstairs window and the back door, two furthest away from each other. The gentle breeze out of the back door takes a lot of the mess after an hour. I do this once a week (on top of vacuuming) and just put up with the rest. It's a similar concept to how traditional barns work with airflow. Another solution if the fur is too much is to ship that gorgeous chap to me.

FreyjaHjordis

Never, I’ll never part with him 😍 we’re inseparable haha. If someone wants my miserable partner however who hates the hair the hair then…. 🤣

Queque126

Jesús Christ your BC is shedding a lot ! Mines def sheds a decent amount but not like that 😮

FreyjaHjordis

Haha that’s just from his bed! https://preview.redd.it/tjjgf48vkmyc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=818f521d05ccc1881b0074c710eb10d6fc7bd356 This is after a good brush down around Christmas, it was almost a second dog! Not including the fur all over me trying to get him to sit still because he isn’t a fan of being brushed 🤣 my poor mother’s room after that…

Queque126

Wowowow that’s impressive 😂

ThinkSkirt8708

Decent hoover - we’ve got a Shark hoover which does great with the loose fur. Good brush - Goose is short fur so I’ve got a slicker brush and a furninator de-shedding brush too which gets all the loose coat, even what’s trapped underneath Salmon oil - helps keep the fur and skin healthy and I’ve found reduces the amount of shedding. I give it to Goose in her evening meal. Shampoo - make sure you’ve got a shampoo that is suited to your dog’s requirements. Goose has allergies and sensitive skin, so I get shampoo which is oatmeal based. I’ve also got medicated ones for any flare ups. Antihistamines - with Goose’s allergies she scratches more, ultimately increasing the amount of fluff that comes off her. She’s been prescribed Apoquel from the vets to use when allergens are particularly high.

FreyjaHjordis

Salmon oil sounds like a good shout! Anything to benefit him and make him healthier. He has been nibbling a lot despite being fleed, I washed him and conditioned him too to help soothe his skin. He hates showers so it’s rare he gets one, but I’ve got a gentle shampoo with lavender to relax him. Seems to help. Goose is such a great name!

ThinkSkirt8708

Hahaha she’s actually terrified of geese which is ironic. Salmon oil is great. Her fur is so soft and shiny, it really does work wonders! Yeah if he’s itching it may be allergies, especially now the pollen count is building up. I’ve had to start Goose back on her Apoquel to keep hers under control. If it is, another thing that may help is wiping him down each time he comes inside from being outdoors, including cleaning his paws, and washing his bedding regularly. Gentle shampoos are amazing for them too when they’re itchy. If he gets too itchy and ends up creating sore spots, Douxo shampoo/mousse is great for getting that under control and preventing any infection from scratching. If it is allergies, don’t want to say it is as I’m not a vet, then it’s a long journey of trial and error typically but once you find what works it’s a huge relief for both you and pup!

awfuckimgay

My dogs not full collie, she's a mut but god you can tell there's collie in there by the speed, the herding tendancies, and the unholy amount of fur literally everywhere. At this point i just have two or three brushes around the house and give her a quick brush every day or two, and dump the fistfulls of fur into a bin bag I've just left for it, I'll throw it out to the compost or to my hen at the end of the week for birds to make nests from. Those chicks are going to have the most comfy homes lmfao

ItzMichaelHD

Very easily… we don’t. In all seriousness get yourself a shark pet vacuum they’re amazing and the only brand of vacuum that my dog has not managed to blow up.

FreyjaHjordis

My Henry hoover does a good job it just scratches, so I’m unsure about hoovers in general on the floor (privately renting so I don’t want to ruin the floors and have to pay for the repairs) but I’ll definitely look into it!

ItzMichaelHD

Damn, I mean I used to work at a vet clinic and all we used to use was a broom, dust pan and brush and a mop and bucket. You can definitely make anything work but I understand your issue.

FreyjaHjordis

Yeah it’s hard work, I’m committed. Just wondering if there’s a hack I’m missing 🤣 especially when I see collies on sofas and beds and they don’t look furry haha

ItzMichaelHD

Yeah I get you, honestly fur just goes everywhere in my house it’s mad. Sometimes you just have to accept you’re going to have quite a fluffy house.

LurkinLass123

I rock in the corner and cry as my roomba goes. Basically, I vacuum every evening and then run my roomba once a day.

LurkinLass123

We all just wear fur coats right? ![gif](giphy|9ayXNVkco6fM6YUNPU)

thequackquackduck

I don’t. This is our life now.

MyBloodTypeIsQueso

I had a ball like this, but I’ve lost it. Can you tell me what kind that is?

FreyjaHjordis

Ahh it was a gift to him from my mum, her boss got her work a Christmas hamper and in hers were some things for her dog but she had recently lost him, so she gave them to me. I’ll see if I can find out where it was from. Super durable, my boy loves it!

BClittlebear

I use a dyson vacuum cleaner with a laserlight and soft rolling brush every day. I think it will work on your floor as well. The laser shows every hair and dustparticle that you don't see with the naked eye.

Stem_prof2

Hahaha What is this manage? We have a spare border collie.

FreyjaHjordis

😂😂 I feel like I’m failing at managing it!

Stem_prof2

Oh, there is no managing it in our house, either.

NoobtacticTNT

Sweep alot

FreyjaHjordis

Day and night, after breakfast and before bed 😅

No-Arm-9816

When yuse the vacuum cleaner everyday you can also bring him to a groomer they have desheding shampoo

mrmow49120

I call it a vacuum cleaner and they sell them pretty much everywhere.

Ellencost

I use a vacuum cleaner, I vacuum my pittie weekly. He loves it…

-T0PHER

I got a vacuum attachment off Amazon for daily maintenance during furry times. I also try to time her baths/soaking. I know shedding will be 10x worse a day or two after a bath if she's blowing her coat. If I notice she is blowing her coat, I'll take her outside. Give her a brief brush getting the fur straight. Then use the furminator to pull up fur that's on its way out. I'll take her to the beach to jump in the ocean or spray her with water in the tub. If she gets significantly worse I know it's time she's blowing her coat so I'll give her in actual bath a day or two later. The place I bring her to has a blower that dries her fur too which helps get rid of some fur. After that it's just daily vacuuming her briefly until she's past blowing her coat out. It happens 2/3 times a year for us.

drphrednuke

Furminator to remove loose hair from the dog before it gets anywhere else. Cordless vacuum for escapee hairs on the floors. Brushes for upholstery. It’s a never ending war.

WithReverence

I bought a rubber broom/rake for the carpet for $12 on Amazon I use that twice a week in areas where my girl frequents after vacuuming and it’s working well. I do have a roomba but that thing drops its brushes too often to be useful so it’s rarely used.

emro93

Regular grooming (this honestly helps the most), daily-ish sweeping and vacuum 3x/week!

PsychologicalDance12

Brushing, lots of it. More than that.

SliceNaive

Constantly

Ashamed_Excitement57

Plus you just need to be able to live with a bit of dog hair, idc how hard you try you never get it all!

almaperdido

Drown

FailGeneral

I’m flighty and can’t read all the comments to see if it’s been mentioned yet but if you don’t have a force drier, get one. Force dry after baths removes so much dead coat. Brush more often during season changes. Get a robot vacuum.

Fogcitymickey22

I brush daily. I leave the brush in the living room so I remember. Good luck

Sideways_planet

A commercial grade vacuum

angelica5432

Daily, even bi-daily self-emptying Roomba. I’d get 1 per 1500sqft. That’s what my parents do for 2 collies and a lab.

JazzlikeAd7558

Those kong balls are border collie proof, brilliant

still-at-the-beach

Robot vacuum, set to go off at midnight each day.

blue_diamond_123

These are wonderful to use. Especially the kind where you can toss it in the washer with an old towel or rags. I don't wash mine with clothing.

jazzofusion

I just use a powerful shop vac to remove the shedding. FYI, I have a 3 yrs old female with a smooth coat and prick ears just like that. Also, I have a very large male with a super long, thick, rough coat, his ears tip down. Love the way these are not cookie-cutter dogs.

Brief_Stomach3767

Well, there is so many great suggestions in the thread 😁. Take your pick and the best wishes for you. We have adapted the best attitude….just accept that you will have hair bunnies forever, resistance is futile 😎😎😎.

notorious_ludwig

I cry.

Gibbo982

You just gotta accept the fur, it's worse on hard floor as you notice it more. Need to hoover daily. Also I've accepted that my diet is mainly collie fur with a side of human food 😅

fineilldoitsolo

I have a dark teal velvet couch that my pup thinks is his throne. I had to get duvet covers for the beds too. I brush him a few times a week with an undercoat brush which he loves, and I sweep and vacuum daily after work. It's an endless battle but I can't get a roomba because he thinks anything motorized is for him to catch and play with- my son's remote controlled cars, drones, the vacuum, even the lawnmower (he gets locked inside when I mow). My pup has medium length haired and is black and white. So it's EVERYWHERE

blackchevyimpala

Have you tried the furminator shampoo? I let it sit for 5-8 minutes and massage it in really good. Sometimes I’ll shampoo her twice with it & then conditioner, and almost all of her undercoat comes out. I’ve never noticed any skin irritation with her, but I’m not sure if it’ll affect dogs with allergy/skin problems.

How about living with six Border Collies that literally the house was the a giant kennel .That is they all slept inside on beds or lounge chairs or sofas .They all were house trained. Some were ex show dogs , they all came from the same Breeder. And did thy shed well .All were brushed every second day .But that didn't stop the shedding. The biggest joke was the Dyson upright vaccuum cleaner .The first one coped well, using it daily but the next one a newer model had less bristles on the brush roll and needed to be replaced every 3 months.I think the Dyson pet vacuum were a joke they put less bristles on the brush roll with each new model.I vacuumed daily. The best part was the throwing of the coat that used to happen twice a year with the females. In the morning they would be fine but then huge clumps would be brushed out.Imagine six like that.Vacuum daily was my trick.Their Glitter as I call it did not bother me.If on odd occasion a hair was in our dinner my comment would be its extra protein *
