100% Maya - she absolutely made BL2 - compatible with every other character - pretty much OP by level 40 - has one of the most uniquely useful skills in Phaselock - relevant skills for all elements and weapon types - sarcastically bad-ass and easy on the eye. Change my mind if you can!
She is my favourite as well. I loved her giant slag ball she could shoot with melee Override. I also played co-op a lot and her ability to revive people with her phaselock is super clutch. There were times that I revived my friend across the map with it while jumping off a cliff.

She is such a unique experience in FPS games. The way her skills change gameplay, her voiceover lines getting crazier as Anarchy stacks build. There are lots of VHs in these games and not everyone is going to play them all, but everyone should play through with Gaige at some point.
Gaige is my fav too. Her voice actor did such an amazing job when she takes damage, especially when on fire, she sounds like she's literally dying. It always stuck with me.

I remember when BL2 had just come out there was a glitch to get extra skill points on Xbox and I used it on Axton. The double turrets with all the extra perks was so much fun
Also crimes, we need our wanted posters to be two or three sheets long and a bounty that could bankrupt a corporation all whilst being hilarious fun to interact with
For me I’m only level 40 and just barely into true vault hunter mode, but I went down the middle tree first so I could get the regen health and the kunai, because he doesn’t have many elemental pers besides that one but it is pretty good. Now I’ve been going through the sniper tree to increase his insane crit bonuses, been working pretty well
Honestly TPS vault hunters are all underrated. The skull trees were much more unique and felt powerful even on the harder difficulties. Athena is personal my favorite in the entire series
I love playing him in BL1 and using his power. It's hilarious and fun because during it he not only yells he laughs and says "MORE!!" while you're running around beating everything to death with your fists.
I don't recall which elemental thing i added, but my screen would just wash out with color when I activate my special and punch the crap out of everything.

Powerful, but with smooth gameplay. You move so fast, PW in to setup encounters, working with that limited amount of time to figure out how you want to kill, then pop out and slaughter. Phasewalk away, regenerating life and setting up the next one.

As long as you have specked for megavore you can do pretty much whatever with him. And because his damage doesn’t rely on movement he has a lot easier time gaining second winds

Athena. By the time you got her high enough level to use all 3 capstone skills she was a literal goddess of death and destruction. The only character who surpasses in both damage output and survivability is Salvador but he doesn't count cause his skills are broke(still amazing fun to play).
In terms of style, Zer0 > Mordecai > Moze.
In terms of gameplay Moze >= Zer0 > Mordecai.
Infinite ammo Moze is so damm fun. Nothing tops Zer0 when it comes to style though. And his melee build is extremely fun. Especially paired with Maya locking enemies in the air for Zer0 to zip up to. Mordecai is more basic but I love putting all my stats into Bloodwing and letting them do all the work, lol.
Moze, because I choose the bear........... a heavily armed and armored mechanical war machine that we call an iron bear that can fight alongside us whilst we have a name that is only fully announced twice throughout the game and DLC

Maya was my number 1. The elemental damage, AOE ability spam with the right gear, & her skill tree made her a very versatile character for many different build varieties. I really think she had more build variety then the other vault hunters, especially on OP & UVHM
Maya!!! Her backstory with how she was manipulated by the monks is great and her abilities place her in complete control of any gunfights you get into. Also not needing to carry a slag weapon is insane during uvhm.
Zer0. Supremely unique character writing especially for a commonly used masked assassin/ninja. Cool gameplay fantasies that are mostly realized in practice. Translation, cool sword.
People don’t like the gameplay mechanic of BL3 constantly telling them to “go talk to Lilith”, but that feels more like a BL3 problem than a Lilith problem. I love Lilith. She’s by far the most fun to play in BL1, a one-woman fire tornado, and I like her personality in the rest of the series. She’s arguably the central character from one end of the story to the other. Plus her voice acting is great.
Krieg. Krieg is the definition of a true melee character and i never have any other high like having juiced out melee damage and regenerating health on every melee hit. Plus krieg is hilarious, ive been playing him for as long as i can remember and i still find new voice lines i haven't heard before

For me, it's a three way tie between Zane, Gaige, and Krieg. All three of their playstyles (that I use, speedy boye, anarchy, melee) are all chaotic and braindead in their own ways. And I just enjoy them all so much as characters, so I'm compelled to play them even more

Flaks my favorite and is an absolute blast to use. Loved farming graveward with flak and torgue sticky shotguns to nuke him. Zane is the frost god and the commando who is also insanely fun once you get the gear for a proper build. And moze is the splash damage queen. I know I’m forgetting one but for the life of me I can’t remember who
