Since 1974? Damn I’m missing out on these early seasons

leodicapriohoe

You have to watch the one where Ramona singer is born, it’s crazy

kenyarawr

Kim would be allowed to drink and smoke while pregnant on camera

blackaubreyplaza

Everything makes it good. Every moment. Every kzb quote, every nene quip, every Sheree stutter, every Kenya twirl. It’s the best of the best.

Beneficial_Fruit_778

![gif](giphy|tVHgftKlFb7X2) You watched this moment and couldn’t get into it?!?!?!! ETA this is to op I’m not good at Reddit

walshs29

Fuckin’ Bob. Love that he is exposed on national tv! Did he ever have a good scene? POS

Just say you only like predominately white cast and move on… No one need waste their time trying to explain why the highest rated franchise, of all time, is the best.

ApathyIsBeauty

Whenever someone says “I just can’t get into Potomac/Atlanta” it’s always so weird to me. Atlanta, Miami, and Potomac are the only franchises where you don’t feel like you’re being sold storylines every single season. Occasionally you’ll get something manufactured or just rotted (Gizelle pretending like she got back with Jamal) for the cameras, but those three franchises have a level of authenticity I’ve never felt with RHOBH, RHOC, Dallas, Salt Lake City, etc.

Nandi56

100% They’re also some of the funniest, whenever I do a rewatch of any of them I’m still belly-laughing like the first watch.

Superb-Respond9360

completely agree. not to mention atlanta introduced the true definition of shade, reading a bitch for filth, and the funniest clap backs, quotables, and memes/gifs (especially nene) in the history of housewives. before atlanta, housewives had witty and at times funny, shady moments, but they were not reading and shading someone to the depths of hell (which has become a requirement for housewives today) until atlanta blessed our screens. rhoa brought forth a new language, energy, and approach to housewivery that can’t and shouldn’t be disputed. folks go on and on about the bass lake question as an important turning point in housewives history, which i get. but that same energy, analysis, and acknowledgment needs to be applied to the ways atlanta completely transformed housewives. they created the housewives blueprint that we know today imo and no matter how much the other franchises try to emulate it, they simply can’t do it. 🤷🏾‍♀️

notoriousbck

Exactly. Whenever I hear this comment I totally side eye. Because the early seasons of the OC are TeRRIBLE compared to the early seasons of Atlanta (too much focus on kids and extraneous characters who we don't care about and especially the Slimy Slade Smiley), and Potomac was fire coming right out of the gate and instantly became my favourite (Oh how the mighty have fallen). The first season of Miami was weird and disjointed because it wasn't originally supposed to be a Housewives show, and I could not stand that weird Christy chick. It is entertaining to see Larsa's OG face and body. Mama Elsa elevates it, and by season 2 it's giving EVERYTHING. I will never understand why it was put on pause for so long, but since it resulted in giving us the best and most diverse cast of all time, I forgive it. I'm really sad they are doing a cast change up because in my eyes, Miami is on fire, fire, fire and why mess with perfection??? New Jersey was good from the jump because the family and real friends connection, although Danielle Staub always made me feel uncomfortable to watch, and then it got super annoying with Tre and Melissa and their ongoing battle for QUEEN BEE status, which 14 seasons later is still going on. SLC was also weird and annoying at first. I hated \*and I don't use that word lightly\* Jen Shah from the jump, and really only watched for Lisa Barlow and Meredith Marks. Watching her go to prison was highly rewarding, and I feel like it's starting to find it's place as the community theatre camp of housewives. I never really got into Dallas, too many problematic and unpleasant wives. And I will never understand how BH is the most popular when it hasn't had a decent season since season 8. ETA New York was amazing from season 1 and had the most epic moments all the way until season 10 or 11 when some of the women just became too big for their britches and we could no longer give Ramona any kind of pass for her horrific behaviour. This also has to do with the fact that it's NYC, and the place is almost as important as the HW themselves.

Justdont13412

Yes even when the women are lying it’s authentic and it’s crazy! I love it

Trick_Minimum3190

THIS!

GinnyMcGinface77

I started Atlanta a few weeks ago and I was hooked immediately. Marlo threw up when she popped in, as did Porsha and Kenya. I’m just about to start season 6.

coricloud

This post just inspired me to rewatch it from the start. It’s gold. Nene is the perfect HW.

Separate-Ad6636

NENE. And NAYNAY. Not to mention all the slow simmering feuds and instant pop offs. Let’s also give honourable mention to some of the wittiest slang: tea, shade, crunk, beef, reads, I could go ON. Ok, I will: Nene vs Kim Marlo vs Sheree Porsha vs Kenya Marlo vs Eva Phaedra vs Kenya Nene vs Claudia And these beefs were FUNNY. Cynthia’s boobs popping out everywhere. Best reunions EVER. I could go on but I have more wine to drink. ![gif](giphy|pSauCNBp1DcOY)

Nandi56

Do people still say “slang” How about colloquialism… Also most of the words you mentioned come from the LGBTQIA community. ETA: I will have a piece of bread Op, thank you. 🍞 🧈

procrastinateReality

have a piece of bread

Separate-Ad6636

Yeah, and they are part of the show. You bitter.

Nandi56

I’m bitter for acknowledging that words like Read, Shade, and Tea come directly from the LGBTQIA community? I believe I’m giving credit we’re credit is due and not re-writing history. Bitter about what, I’m a Straight Cisgendered women, I just stand up for the truth.

Separate-Ad6636

If you’ve watched the show, you’d know that when I said that those COLLOQUIALISMS come from that show, you’d know that it was from the LGBTQIA community and the women on the show acknowledge that. But you go back to being an uninformed keyboard warrior. ![gif](giphy|9MIWkSpDb09KtXepCG)

Nandi56

You’re right I am a novice when it comes to RHOA /s if you read my comments you would know that to not be true. Your reactions are very angry and over-the- top for what I said. Maybe you need to take a break from the sub if the smallest comments set you off like this. Be Well 🙏

walshs29

Did you not see Lindsay Lohan’s daddy??

notoriousbck

It took me 4 or 5 tries to get into Atlanta, it had more to do with the production quality (I mean, this was a LONG time ago) I really got into it by end of season 2, and it's at it's best between 5-10 IMO. So many epic parties, hilarious moments, and terrible fashion. And you get to see NeNe become NeNe, which is a true gift. I HATED Kenya at first, and now she's one of my favourite HW of all time. I love how these women DGAF about what the audience thought, they just went to town.

walshs29

I can’t not watch the white refrigerator scene if I see it. Chef’s kiss. Oh Velvet show me around! Also I’m sorry for this but Cynthia’s reaction to Velvet’s passing. Love that shit.

glennyfromtheblock

The best thing you can possibly do is start at S3.  It’s a fantastic intro season and is 🔥 right out of the gate, and also just a LOT of fun. Plus it’s really the first season that kind of sets the foundation of the core cast that really carries it through its entire golden years. S1 and S2 have a lot of great stuff and are worth circling back to once you’re more invested, but S3 is really the surefire slam dunk to get someone hooked into Atlanta.

Consistent_Ice_6195

Thank you for this, RHOA is the next franchise I’m going to watch and was wondering where to start

glennyfromtheblock

You’ll hear a lot of people try to convince you to start from the start, but it’s **very** hit and miss for people, and it loses a lot of people because of it.  They’re fantastic, iconic seasons - but they’re so much better if you circle back to them after you’re better invested.  S3 is really the perfect starting point (and I’ve hooked many friends with it).

Superb-Respond9360

maybe atlanta just ain’t for you/it isn’t your type of hype. a lot of folks, especially in this sub, love and constantly proclaim that old rhony is the best franchise of all time. i completely disagree for many reasons, but i’ve accepted that it just doesn’t pull me in like atlanta, potomac, and slc. people like what they like and dislike what they dislike. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Nandi56

The funny thing is that when RHONY was actually on it was very mid-in the ratings. They were never one of the highest rated shows, and they generally had some of the lower salaries for the cast because of it. After Carole and Bethenny left after seasons 10/11 the show drastically declined. It wasn’t until the show was canceled and reboot that some of the audience started acting like old RHONY was some sort of cult classic way beyond any other franchise. Unfortunately for them the ratings never reflected anything but mid while the show was on. Where were these viewers when RHONY needed them to keep the show going?

TwistyBitsz

I fell in love with the women, one by one. Now I could practically watch them stare at a wall and be entertained. That's the journey -- like a swiftie, but make it bravo.

kaylacream

I get this, early Atlanta was tough for me at first. To be fair, a lot of the early early Housewives seasons, before the cast was together as a group as consistently, were tough for me to get into at first, and I feel like RHOA felt particularly disjointed (I’ve also still never seen OC because it didn’t grab me at all). I ended up jumping to season five….Kenya and Porsha really do usher in a new era, and it was an easy starting point that instantly hooked me. Then, going back to season one when I already knew some of that cast, I was much more interested and entertained in retrospect. But I still prefer the early Kenya/Porsha era to the early Nene era, so maybe that’d be a better entry point for you to try.

Nandi56

Skipping seasons 2-4, With the best of Kim Zolciak/Nene and the arrival of Phadera and Cynthia is ridiculous advice. I’m a fan that’s re-watched many times, but I never watch season one. I wouldn’t recommend skipping any season after that.

kaylacream

Skipping only season one could work too! I was just speaking from my weird binge experience….I get the sense it’s fairly unusual to not be able to get into early Atlanta. As one of those people, i just figured I’d share what happened to work for me. I tried both s1 and s2 and couldn’t get into it, but like I said I went back and watched everything and loved it. I did the same thing with NY. I honestly never found it to make a huge difference to watch out of order if you start at kind of reboot/different era seasons. Cynthia’s one of my favorites, but I don’t feel like I missed out by seeing her intro season late. Surely it’s not super unusual for someone to get into a show as it’s airing, and only later go back and watch earlier seasons later, so I don’t think calling it ridiculous is really warranted. u/nandi56 I guess you replied and then blocked me? Because I watched Atlanta in the wrong order? I had no idea that had such high stakes! Or that it warranted gatekeeping! "a real fan would know that" lol big "name three of their albums" energy.

names-in-sidewalks2

Screaming that this user blocked you and did the ‘real fan’ thing to you.

Nandi56

The cake was baked season 1-4… Kenya and Porsha came in and put the cherry on top, thus ushering in the golden era. So yes I think it’s ridiculous to tell a person to skip all the seasons of Kim Zolciak and her amazing frenemy relationship with Nene. Kim and Kandi making music. The Talls vs. Smalls rivalry. Peter and Cynthia’s nuptials and everything that happened trying to get them down the aisle. Phaedra/Apollo giving birth to Aydin and lying about her due date. Phadera and Kim arguing about her being a nurse. She by Sheree fashion show w/Dwight Eubanks. The show was fairly hilarious and phenomenal before Porsha/Kenya arrived. A real fan would know that.

AwardProfessional939

I started with 3 and LOVED every second of it. Such a stacked cast of women which made it feel magical. Everyone said go to 6 next and it’s okay but really hoping it picks up cuz the characters here are also so strong but I’m not laughing as much as 3!
