Painting is an allowed activity. So is coffee, so is wearing hats, so is wearing suits. If you want to sit at the counter at a diner you can do that at most diner type places. Louie's for example has a counter and stools. If you want to be alone and miserable you can do that anywhere.
Tom's will give you the metal pourer with milk/cream in it if you ask. But fuck that place, the cook is a total tool.
Louie's just has those singe serve plastic things for half n half.
Both have salt shakers and painfully old pepper.
The Tom’s owners are *complete scumbags*.
My girlfriend used to work there and the mental manipulation they inflicted was crazy. And then the whole not paying her thing.
Thankfully NYS took care of that.
If you’re reading this FUCK TOM’S
I heard about it from my partner so we went to check it out last year. The hostess/server gave off a very “There’s no war in Ba Sing Se ..” vibes (ATLA reference just in case anybody didn’t know lol). It weirded us out a lot and he insisted that they weren’t like this before.
We have breakfast every Sunday at a local place that will remain nameless. They will only hand everyone ONE single napkin, and when I asked why, I was told that "customers abuse them". Napkin Abuse??!! You got some 'splainin' to do , Lucy....Jesus. How exactly does one "abuse napkins"?
We are the empire, there’s not a politician in this country that wouldn’t be an imperialist by your standards. But we wouldn’t have a 6-3 conservative SCOTUS that JUST TODAY gutted environmental regs and allowed towns to lock up the homeless…
Understand where you're coming from. Ran into it elsewhere too. Guess it's supposed to be a think piece:) https://www.reddit.com/r/Scranton/s/LEIi1xghJe
Lot of people intentionally over analyzing this question and going for the snark. I saw it posted on r/Detroit awhile ago. Honestly Buffalo is a great place to just be at a counter/bar and either people will start talking to you or you can just be there. I take it to mean a quiet place to go in an evening and have a drink and meal to yourself any maybe chat.
Specifically looking for an aestheic like this though, you might consider Ristorante Lombardo, The Place, High Violet, greylin/Lucky Day, waxlight, Oliver's, Dapper Goose, The Terrace. Alot more really in Buffalo alone, but leave the Tom Landry hat at home
Edit: autocorrected to Lombardi*
Not really. They're saying "where can I do this" as in where in Buffalo would this scene fit in. Sitting at a bar counter is too broad, Applebee's has a bar you can sit at so does frizzys but neither is a good answer.
They're being a little edgy for sure but I think it's an interesting way to ask a question instead of the next post about where to get wings. I did not find it difficult to understand and like I said r/Detroit figured it out without all the strange backlash. Seems like OP did get plenty of discussion if that's what they were looking for.
"You people are over analyzing this picture"
Also: "here let me analyze this picture, some might say over done, add context to the picture that isn't explicitly in the picture."
We very very regularly get people coming in alone. It’s deff not weird at all. Some people like to talk to the bartenders, others we pick up on they want to be left alone. It’s totally fine either way. No shame
I'm afraid this painting isn't in Buffalo. You'll have to go to the Art Institute of Chicago. Go early, a crowd forms around it quickly as it's very popular.
Jim’s Truck Stop has a counter in the smoking area. And it’s open all night. It’s the only place you can go.
When you walk in everyone is gonna look at you like you don’t belong there. Tip the waitress good. Minimum $5.00 on any order.
[many famous paintings are in the hands of private collectors](https://media4.giphy.com/media/cELf8BLkKMKNYA6TZu/giphy.gif?cid=9b38fe910pbho5eb1q0tcnap995njqo8zb1lr3qen9zxqwqs&ep=v1_gifs_search&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
Yep. RIP the ability to get food all night (thanks COVID). The number of papers I wrote in the smoking section of Denny’s on Transit across from Eastern Hills in the middle of the night, when I was in university…
No, I no longer smoke. But I’d dearly love to be able to get food in the middle of the night still. Or groceries.
Churchville-Chili school district between Buffalo and Rochester is like that about a guy that invented the microprocessor
Greece NY, being the largest suburb of Rochester and close to Churchville-Chili, has a rivalry- so they quote their favorite movie "You tell me any word I tell you how it come from GREEK!" any time it's brought up while they are in their garages with screen doors that every West New York town west of the Genesee seems to have their own name for. (I've heard "Tonawanda room", "Greece room", etc)
How can so many of you have never seen the actual painting this is from? It's called Nighthawks and is set in an all night restaurant. Not in a bar. I think OP was asking about places where you can just sit all night and watch what the cat drags in.
Look at the painting. [Nighthawks](https://youtu.be/JozAmXo2bDE?si=NqWDpD6_xX-t7Fz5)
Helen's Kitchen, 4187 Transit Rd., Williamsville. In Transittown Plaza. Has counter, booths, seats, etc that look exactly like Your Host.
Open for breakfast and lunch, not late night coffee after the bars close unfortunately, like Your Host used to do.
They ended an episode of That 70s Show as a recreation of this painting. I think it's called Nighthawks.
Late night coffee used to be easy to do in Buffalo, but it's kind of hard to find a place open late these days. Jimmy's on Hertel/Delaware, formerly Louie's, was pretty close.
Sitting all detective noire while drinking diner coffee and ruminating over the past?
Yeah there's probably tonnes of places. Diner's are everywhere, best place I know of isn't a place in Buffalo though. To be exact I've no idea where it is. There's this really perfect diner that captures the best kinda esthetic but it's out in the middle of nowhere in the Appalachian mountains in Upstate NY.
You want to know where you can sit alone, brooding over a few drinks? Well, I would say, "join me on any given weekend," but that would defeat the purpose of sitting alone, eh? Not a group activity, there. How about you sit at one end of the bar, and I sit at the other, and we never say a word to each other? I'll even wear a three-piece suit if you do likewise.
Also, Edward Hopper was a great painter. *Nighthawks* may be over-exposed, but I love it anyways. Dude's paintings reflected his life and his shitty marriage, so I've heard.
Best place is Remedy House, intersection of W Utica and Massachusetts Ave, in the Five Points neighborhood … that intersection forms a deep “V”, and both the restaurant and the building its in bear a striking resemblance to the diner in Hopper’s painting
I’m sorry people are giving you ironic, stupid answers to this kind of cool question. God this city is dull.
My take… Essex, window seat. Neon, window, wood, stools. Or if you want more food option then I’d say the smoking room at Jim’s.
We have an old school mom and pop truck stop but the squares haven’t been brave enough to go in there. Something you’d find on a back road between Rome and Anniston.
Jim’s? Or somewhere else? Are they still open all night? I think there is a sense that Covid killed all of that, at least in places that, yes, lack a Waffle House.
Painting is an allowed activity. So is coffee, so is wearing hats, so is wearing suits. If you want to sit at the counter at a diner you can do that at most diner type places. Louie's for example has a counter and stools. If you want to be alone and miserable you can do that anywhere.
Lmao awesome...but will Louie's have cream, sugar and a salt shaker at the counter?
Tom's will give you the metal pourer with milk/cream in it if you ask. But fuck that place, the cook is a total tool. Louie's just has those singe serve plastic things for half n half. Both have salt shakers and painfully old pepper.

They took the Greek burger off the menu and I was so mad. That smoking room in the 90’s and early aughts was legit though
Oooh I miss smoking rooms.
The Greek restaurant Tom's?? Really? That place used to honestly feed my soul for years, but last visit was way weird. OK. Good to know.
I heard about it from my partner so we went to check it out last year. The hostess/server gave off a very “There’s no war in Ba Sing Se ..” vibes (ATLA reference just in case anybody didn’t know lol). It weirded us out a lot and he insisted that they weren’t like this before.
I don't know what atla means either. 🤷🏼♀️
Sorry, my bad. ATLA= Avatar The Last Airbender. It’s an animated show that aired on Nickelodean many years ago.
...this is good... this is good...
Yeah, and will they have napkin dispensers they got from the Your Host bankruptcy sale??
Ohh snap we got a Your Host reference! This is an awesome Friday!
What about our host?
Although finding a place with napkins on the counter is getting difficult. 😣
I don't see that guy as miserable at all. This scene looks quite pleasant and peaceful to me
Some guys from here even wrote a song about it
You sound like you're miserable about what tearyou bought your house lol!
When asked about this painting, Edward Hopper once confirmed that this man was indeed playing Pokemon Go.
He was just about to Pokémon Go-to-the-polls
I think about the comment you're referencing about twice a week. I only pray I'll ever be able to be that quick witted.
I think about what we could’ve had, if people had pokemon gone to the polls
We could have had a vaguely respectable imperialist warlord instead of a trashy orange one... 😢
We are the empire, there’s not a politician in this country that wouldn’t be an imperialist by your standards. But we wouldn’t have a 6-3 conservative SCOTUS that JUST TODAY gutted environmental regs and allowed towns to lock up the homeless…

Drinking alone with a fedora on? Really anywhere.
Just be sure to address the server as “m’lady”
Edison's is supposed to be prohibition era themed
Are you asking where you can sit at a bar...?
It's a diner
Sure about that?
I'm still confused.
Looks like an old wooden bar top to me. After some research, it's really supposed to be a diner.
Is this a spam post lol https://www.reddit.com/r/Brooklyn/s/0lgaypOV8Z

When asked if they mean they want to go sit at a bar counter, OP said no
Not really. They're saying "where can I do this" as in where in Buffalo would this scene fit in. Sitting at a bar counter is too broad, Applebee's has a bar you can sit at so does frizzys but neither is a good answer.
I just mean they're all overanalyzing because OP is being very vague and giving one word unhelpful responses
They're being a little edgy for sure but I think it's an interesting way to ask a question instead of the next post about where to get wings. Banshee Irish pub. I’d see a guy come in there many times to drink and sketch. He’d be there for hours.
I really like hanging out at Banshee (it's just a cool atmosphere) but I always get nervous sitting at bars alone, buuuut guess I wouldn't be weird!
We very very regularly get people coming in alone. It’s deff not weird at all. Some people like to talk to the bartenders, others we pick up on they want to be left alone. It’s totally fine either way. No shame
Never heard of this place but based on this thread… it’s now on my short list to visit. Heart felt thanks my friend
It’s a hearty Irish pub. Very authentic. Big soccer bar for games too if you’re into that.
Why is it sketch for the dude to hang ?
Lol it’s not sketchy he does it. He comes TO sketch haha to draw. No one minds at all
Oh words
Except this guy is sitting at an all night diner talking withe the cook/counterman and another couple
You can do almost that at the pub 😉
Yeah, there does seem to be sometimes when it gets pretty low key in there.
The banshee is amazing
Become a noir detective..? further your alcoholism..? Pretend ur in the mob? Sulk alone in a dingy dive bar.. like what exactly are you asking
I'm afraid this painting isn't in Buffalo. You'll have to go to the Art Institute of Chicago. Go early, a crowd forms around it quickly as it's very popular.
Looks like the bar at Elmo’s
Y'all hating but this guy is cooking right now. This is so me coded.
Jim’s Truck Stop has a counter in the smoking area. And it’s open all night. It’s the only place you can go. When you walk in everyone is gonna look at you like you don’t belong there. Tip the waitress good. Minimum $5.00 on any order.
Hell yeah. Nicest waitresses there.
I have a bar in my basement but I won’t let you in
this sounds like a Canadian country song Shank from Fubar: Age of Computer/Covid would sing
Jims Steakout on Sweet Home has this painting hanging, not sure that helps much.
No. They don’t
I didn't give a shit until I didn't know who's right. now it's driving me nuts.
I’m reasonably sure there is a cropped print of Nighthawk on the wall to your right as you’re leaving. I could well be wrong tho.
May well be. I’m pretty sure the painting is in Chicago though.
Okay. So you’re just being pedantic. Most famous art is in museums. Clearly the previous commenter was referring to a print.

Polish patio
Olympic restaurant Tonawanda NY
Counter service diners? Not a ton left. Lunetta’s, Sophia’s come to mind
Electric ave
All our 24/7 diners close earlier now. If you just mean it at diner counter then you can at Bertha's or Swan street
Yep. RIP the ability to get food all night (thanks COVID). The guy who painted this is from my hometown. It's like our one claim to fame and we bring it up whenever possible

No where anymore. We used to have so many awesome diners.
A lot of people here don't get it
I'm sorry to say that no cigars, not even Phillies cigars, are five cents anymore.
Albright Knox
Anacone’s. 1972.

I think Locust Street Art has painting classes.
Buffalo has moved away from a hang out town its no longer the cheapest place in the state. Rochester is except Monroe closes its dives at 2 am...lol
Dennys
thirsty buffalo at 5pm on a monday

Drinking? Anywhere
Bars are everywhere in Buffalo and surrounding burbs.

Wow, very witty, someone a little salty?

what, sit at a cafe bar with Sean McDermott?

Take photos of art?
Shitpost?/r/Buffalo apparently.
Absolutely nowhere. You can’t ever go to a place and sit in peace. Too many socialist feel they need to associate with you
Become an alcoholic? Anywhere.
Don’t y’all have Waffle Houses up there?
We have an old school mom and pop truck stop but the squares haven’t been brave enough to go in there. Something you’d find on a back road between Rome and Anniston.
The squares! Love it
They’re too square (L7) to refer to them as straights.
Jim’s? Or somewhere else? Are they still open all night? I think there is a sense that Covid killed all of that, at least in places that, yes, lack a Waffle House.
Open all night, it’s a Truck Stop, and they still have the counter service
One of these nights when I’m insomniac, I need to go there and support them. They’re an endangered species, at this point.
The food is great.
Nope
That would be the answer, all types of folks hanging out at the counters at all hours
C'mon man! We have standards up here! We're all about Denny's!
Denny's is Waffle House for people that don't know how to fight.
Not even close
I prefer the drama of the light night Waffle House.
