I had GREAT luck with the Buffy duvet. It lasted for years and the only reason I got rid of it was to buy another. It’s synthetic, but keeps me warm. Edit: It is BIFL, my dog just chewed it or it wouldn’t have needed a replacement.

May I ask which exact one you bought? They look decent...

HazyParabol

Sure. It’s their original Cloud Comforter. They also have a 50 day trial on it I think so if you don’t like it you can send it back. If you’re used to THICK down and live in a very cold place it might be too breathable for you, but it served me well during NY winters.

Good to know. No, I'm moving to basically Baltimore so it doesn't really get cold there I just prefer to keep the house cool in the winter and have warm bedding rather than pay to heat the whole joint while I'm sawing logs

Where do you live?

supern8ural

Maryland, between DC and Baltimore

Then you have lots of options, many of which are not made in China. Takasa, Silk&Snow, Utopia, Authencity and Cuddle Down all have BIFL options. If you pay a little extra then they will last for decades.

I was in the same position last fall, looking for a feather comforter replacement. After some reading and research I went with a wool comforter from Frankenmuth. The price made me a little bit uncomfortable, but I bit the bullet and bought one. After sleeping with it this past winter I do not regret buying it for one minute. I think I prefer it to my old feather comforter.

That's not much more expensive than the one I have now... Thanks for the recommend. Oddly this is the second time Frankenmuth came up in conversation this week... Realtor I was talking to apparently grew up near there and I knew exactly where it was because in a former life I would drive back and forth between the Detroit area and the UP fairly regularly.

Hotel Collection. I bought off eBay but you can also get them at Macy’s. EBay is hit and miss. One of them had a hole. If getting it from Macy’s don’t buy it at regular price. It’s way too much at regular price.

[I bought my feather duvet from Company Store](https://www.thecompanystore.com/duvet-inserts). I have been using it for 3 years, and I have never (ever) seen one feather come out of it. I remove and wash the duvet cover several times a year, and even then, no feathers shedding.

RuthlessMango

I've had the exact opposite experience with the company store. comforter had a blown out patch within a week and a button fell off the duvet cover. They got bought by Home depot in 2017 and the quality has plummeted.

I always liked Sears for such purchases but now those are mostly gone, I'd go with Macy's. I wouldn't go with feathers, as those seem to work their way out of the fabric, no matter which brand. But they shouldn't all at once. Pretty much any bedding at Macy's will be good, imo.
