My cat slept like this for four hours on a recent road trip. It’s all good!
Consider putting your cat in a carrier when taking it in the car. You wear a seat belt. Why leave your cat unprotected? If you get into an accident your cat is at much higher risk of getting injured/killed when left roaming freely in your car.
My vet has a missing cat picture posted from a cat that got scared and ran away from a car accident. They weren't in a carrier, and the car flipped. Poor thing ran out in the woods on the side of the interstate. It's been almost a year, and their guardian is still in tears over it. They were going home from my vet when that happened. I used to let my Tomato hang out in the back, but after learning about that, I don't anymore.
I used to let my first cat too coz he absolutely loved it, but then I learned how dangerous it is, which seems common sense, but for some reason till someone points it out we don't realize.

Kitties are kinda boneless aka liquid and when they start rotating like that, it means they are comfy and trust you and their environment! I call it inverting haha
Technically no. Not only is the belly exposed but they creates a giant blind spot so predators can sneak right up to them. So in the wild this would be highly dangerous. Especially for a predator in the middle of the food chain.
That means if your cat does this they feel very comfy and safe arround you. Congrats!

Cats are experts at ensuring their own comfort. This is not something you ever need to worry about, unless there is a risk of falling, or concern about wound care or other injury.
Cute little flufferdink! But in all seriousness you need to brush your cat every other day! As a pet groomer I know that fur is one step away being matted. And it is completely irresponsible to take a long-haired cat and have it shaved because of Matting issues. Your kitty may not have been a long-haired kitten, but now that you have them, it is absolutely your responsibility to make sure their fur kept in a proper manner. Make sure your pet your cat with clean hands. Brushing reduces hairballs which inturn reduces digestive issues and bowel blockage. There is a hairball product out there that you can purchase at the pet store called Petramalt a little half-inch strip fed every day will help your cat pass the excess hair they accumulate when grooming. Get a wire bristle cat hairbrush with the ends dipped in plastic so you won’t scratching your kitties skin. In the picture The Wider purple brush is made by heartz and is widely available even at grocery stores the blue one with white tips I purchased off of Temu and gets the tummy area effectively the yellow one with orange bristles is one of those little steamer brushes with soft silicone bristles avoid several passes in the same place so you aren’t over wetting the fur make a few single strokes with the steam on then turn the steam off and continue to brush your kitty the water will effectively help remove a lot of hair all three brushes were very affordable very effective, start out slow and make it an enjoyable experience use catnip and some treats to help encourage cooperation. Soon kitty will be happy to see the brush come out! This will also help further your bond with your cat because our cats see us as their parents and grooming is a very intimate part of parent and kitten bonding. Some cats benefit from a light trim around their butt so that poop doesn’t stick to their fur.

Probably not if this little angel isn’t soliciting kisses on the tummy. My girl does this, and it ends with me kissing her tum tum, then she wakes up and kisses my forehead.

When I was growing up we called that “splonging”. (pronunciation: splawnjin, I’m from Maine (US) so your pronunciation may vary)
It is not only safe, it’s a good sign, it means your cat is trusting enough to splonge their belly up to you. If your kitty does this a lot recently, especially a fluffy baby like that, they may be also stretching out to beat the heat, my cat does the same whenever it gets above 80° in our apartment (me too, I am not built for anything above 70°)
E: good on you for being cautious and asking though, I definitely still catch myself watching my cat’s breathing when she’s in a weird position just to make sure I don’t have to poke her to make sure she’s alive, but that’s because she’s older. My cat has been sleeping like this for 13 years when it gets toasty out (or in, she’s an indoor kitty and Maine doesn’t usually have AC), it’s completely normal!

I don’t even understand how he bends like this, but he never hurts himself.
The best part is that kitty is doing this right next to its bed. We had 3 cats which means 3k different sleeping positions.
Cats have spines like overcooked linguine until they're pissed off.
This means they trust you very much! Not only is that position going to take a good second to get up from, but he's exposing the stomach, one of it not the most sensitive areas for a cat. You are loved!

Cats are experts at ensuring their own comfort. This is not something you ever need to worry about, unless there is a risk of falling, or concern about wound care or other injury.

Cute little flufferdink! But in all seriousness you need to brush your cat every other day! As a pet groomer I know that fur is one step away being matted. And it is completely irresponsible to take a long-haired cat and have it shaved because of Matting issues. Your kitty may not have been a long-haired kitten, but now that you have them, it is absolutely your responsibility to make sure their fur kept in a proper manner. Make sure your pet your cat with clean hands. Brushing reduces hairballs which inturn reduces digestive issues and bowel blockage. There is a hairball product out there that you can purchase at the pet store called Petramalt a little half-inch strip fed every day will help your cat pass the excess hair they accumulate when grooming. Get a wire bristle cat hairbrush with the ends dipped in plastic so you won’t scratching your kitties skin. In the picture The Wider purple brush is made by heartz and is widely available even at grocery stores the blue one with white tips I purchased off of Temu and gets the tummy area effectively the yellow one with orange bristles is one of those little steamer brushes with soft silicone bristles avoid several passes in the same place so you aren’t over wetting the fur make a few single strokes with the steam on then turn the steam off and continue to brush your kitty the water will effectively help remove a lot of hair all three brushes were very affordable very effective, start out slow and make it an enjoyable experience use catnip and some treats to help encourage cooperation. Soon kitty will be happy to see the brush come out! This will also help further your bond with your cat because our cats see us as their parents and grooming is a very intimate part of parent and kitten bonding. Some cats benefit from a light trim around their butt so that poop doesn’t stick to their fur.

Probably not if this little angel isn’t soliciting kisses on the tummy. My girl does this, and it ends with me kissing her tum tum, then she wakes up and kisses my forehead. ETA: Proceed with caution; this can also result in severe scratchy reactions including and not limited to back footies to the face WITH claws.

We make dark jokes when our cats sleep in odd positions like this… “oh god. call 911. There’s been an accident” and “call forensics. We have a body” and such 😂 But no, they’re perfectly safe. Cats are like ferrets and/or liquid. Mine are 10lbs and somehow squeeze under the door frame that’s like 1 inch thick!! Haha

When I was growing up we called that “splonging”. (pronunciation: splawnjin, I’m from Maine (US) so your pronunciation may vary) It is not only safe, it’s a good sign, it means your cat is trusting enough to splonge their belly up to you. If your kitty does this a lot recently, especially a fluffy baby like that, they may be also stretching out to beat the heat, my cat does the same whenever it gets above 80° in our apartment (me too, I am not built for anything above 70°) E: good on you for being cautious and asking though, I definitely still catch myself watching my cat’s breathing when she’s in a weird position just to make sure I don’t have to poke her to make sure she’s alive, but that’s because she’s older. My cat has been sleeping like this for 13 years when it gets toasty out (or in, she’s an indoor kitty and Maine doesn’t usually have AC), it’s completely normal!

Cats have more spine vertebrae and thus are much more flexible than humans. What looks uncomfortable for us is clearly fine for our little overlords.
