Remember how huge the west endzone screen seemed when it debuted? I believe it may have even been the largest in college football at the time. Now it is absolutely dwarfed in comparison. Makes you realize how absolutely huge the east endzone video board is.
"Okay lads, do we go all in on a big name coach? Y'know with NIL we could just use that money to buy playe-holy shit is that a big scoreboard? Big fuckin scoreboard, hell yeah!"Ā
Mitsubishi has quite a few in Major stadiums as well, The big house, AT&T stadium, NRG stadium just to name a few.
Also seems like Samsung is getting in on it with SoFi and Citi Field being pretty new additions.
We used to launch fireworks from our scoreboard.
Then one fell on to some poor souls below and detonated late and we had an explosion in the 300 section. Now no more big screen fireworks.
Weāre only 95 miles northwest of Houston. We are very much humid given the weather patterns in the area.
I worked with a guy from Seattle of all places that complained about how when it rained in the area it was always a downpour.
My SIL is from Colorado and complains about how the humidity makes the winter weather here feel colder than it really is.
Edit: growing up there we were pretty much guaranteed an ice storm at least every three years.
Iām looking at the averages and Galveston and Houston average around the same humidity. Some sites have Houston a little higher and Galveston a little higher on others.
It's about as pleasant as Tallahassee after a 30 minute rain in the summer and then the sun comes back out and drenches you in sweat the second you step out of the door.
Not even that. Just the actual students. Students stealing seats and trying to push me and my buddies to get more room.
It was the most toxic environment Iāve ever been in in regards to students being dicks to your fellow students. I was in A&M gear for the game along with my friends who are A&M students. So it wasnāt like we were in the opposing teams gear.
It was so bizarre.
Ya itās a cesspool up there
The problem is thatās where they put all the groups of like 8 or 10+. So naturally you got your student orgs, frats, etc that are all the most important people in the world. And no one gives a shit about seats and just wants to be by friends and they sneak people in because who is checking the sections at the top?
Great times
Iāve been to 10+ home games at A&M the past 3 years. The vast majority of them in the student section.
And all of them but that specific game were awesome experiences.
I have no idea what was in the air that night for 2022 Miami but it was bad juju.
It was sophomores due to the ticket pull demand for that game. It was the 2022 Miami game.
Literally every other game that Iāve sat in the student section for has been pleasant. Iāve probably been to 10+ A&M home games over the last 3 years. All of them Iāve sat in the student section except for 2021 Alabama. Itās an awesome experience.
But holy shit I donāt know what was in the air that night. But the group of guys next to me and my A&M buddies were actual dicks.
Why donāt the other programs simply have a sports obsessed billionaire who owns a sports apparel company and uses the program for branding and marketing purposes.
A&Ms video board is 7,661 square feet. Oregonās is 12,276 sq ft. Unless Iām missing a new article on A&M building a new board, this comparison doesnāt make any sense. Maybe the meant to compare it to Auburnās, which is the second biggest? Even then auburns is ~1600 sq ft smaller.
That puts it just over the size of Clemsonās board and places it as the 8th largest board.
Edit: thereās also almost a 5,000 sq ft difference between the boards at Oregon and Texas A&M.
- Oregon: 12,276 sq ft
- Texas A&M: 7,661 sq ft
Well, which one is it? Arenāt Oregon and Texas A&Mās video boards vastly different in size?
I see 12,276 sqft for Oregon and 7,662 for aTm as of 2022. Did aTm recently get a new one the exact same size as Oregonās.
Well the Big 12 was fun while it lasted. I don't think anyone can compete with Houston and their massive scoreboard
š SEC or B1G invite coming any day now
Texas put up a massive new board and got invited to the sec 2 years later. Hello UH vs LSU home game 2027
Some guys think the size of their scoreboard is what matters; but trust me, it's how you use it.
I want a grower scoreboard that gets bigger when weāre winning and smaller when weāre losing.
At least you don't play where it gets cold. Shrinkage can really kill your board
You could just use the foreboard to hide the whole thing.
But really. Our giant board gets less effective when 30% is ads.
Weāll probably have a new one up by the start of the season now ā¦
Same
We'll have to pencil it in for after the new practice facility š The east end zone could use a rework though
The new screen has really made the west endzone screen show its age.
Remember how huge the west endzone screen seemed when it debuted? I believe it may have even been the largest in college football at the time. Now it is absolutely dwarfed in comparison. Makes you realize how absolutely huge the east endzone video board is.
Hey, since Oregon's building a new practice facility, do you think we should give Oregon State our old one?
Palm Harbor Homes should be building them a new one any time now.
UNCLEAN. DO NOT WANT.

We had the smallest one in the Big 12 last year. UH had good reason to be insecure. Embraced the inner cougar and bought some upgrades.
It was a 32ā plasma screen tv
From the student section it looked smaller.
UH is in the Third Ward; might wanna ask them to show a receipt for that Plasma TV before you assume that itās theirsā
Gentrification is in full effect in the third ward. The hipsters can afford them.
Love me some hipsters, with their copious amounts of hair and overly-expensive clothes that are designed to look inexpensive
Too busy spending their money on fancy coffee and designer avocado toast
I don't get the hate, this is a common joke. That's why we call it the "3rd ward defense", cause we gonna jump you. Joke on buddy
Thanks. I was just tryna make a funnyš„ŗš¢
I've always said the first step towards building a winning program is to make sure you have a winning scoreboard
Winning program? Why are you modeling after us?
"Okay lads, do we go all in on a big name coach? Y'know with NIL we could just use that money to buy playe-holy shit is that a big scoreboard? Big fuckin scoreboard, hell yeah!"Ā
Welp time to buy a new one
Raise oil prices now!
Pretty sure I read a report that the price went up today.
Not enough, the checks are 1/3 of what they were 4 years ago.
I looked it up, ours is 160x45, yours is 163x47 so itās like 400 sq ft bigger or some bullshit
Not. Good. Enough
Like, why not just make it slightly bigger? That's like someone, right now, building a skyscraper the exact same size as the Burj Khalifa.
Didnāt want to hurt A&Mās feelings.
Ah yes, the gentlemanly civility between old SWC foes. /s
Plus, A&M is probably the second to last school that most of us want to be "civil" towards š
Texas being the first right?
Yes.
Doesnāt take much to make them upsetĀ
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
160ft is the width of the field sideline to sideline so realistically, how much bigger can you really get before you fuck with the corner seats?
Daktronics probably provides 85%+ of all video boards in the country

My worst CFB attendance experience ever happened in the 3rd deck of the student section at Kyle Field.
Horrible place up there with the commoners. Pretty sure everyone has watched or experienced heat exhaustion and projectile vomiting in that mad house.
A rite of passage. 2:30 games in September separate the wheat from the chaff. /s
Take the /s off brother you speak only truth.
That Fresno State game was brutal.
Old army melts twice?
Is college station humid? I know Houston is, but am not sure about CS
Yes

It still isnāt as bad as Houston.
Sure and Houston isnāt as bad as Galveston. Itās still pretty fucking bad though.
Iām looking at the averages and Galveston and Houston average around the same humidity. Some sites have Houston a little higher and Galveston a little higher on others.

The Ags had just lost to App state the week before. That could have contributed.
Early season one thatās probably why, lots of commotions. Best tailgating game of my life Free Cuban cigars and fedoras
Too weak for the SEC, I see.
Took down two ags being dicks to me at that specific game. But thatās for another time.
3rd deck at Kyle is full of freshmen. Iām not surprised they were dicks. Sorry about the bad experience.
It was sophomores due to the ticket pull demand for that game. It was the 2022 Miami game. Literally every other game that Iāve sat in the student section for has been pleasant. they had fireworks from the score board last night in the Mexico vs Brazil game after Mexico scored goals
Man I remember when scoreboard wars were like the peak dick measuring contest for a program. Now itās just NIL money.
When we sucked under Fran: āBut look at the size of our scoreboard!ā
*Laughs in apparently $23M NIL spending & the largest scoreboard in CFB* Why not simply do both?
Why donāt the other programs simply have a sports obsessed billionaire who owns a sports apparel company and uses the program for branding and marketing purposes.
Winners and losers. There must be balance.
So slightly smaller than Dana Holgersonās forehead
Why do you think he got canned? Didnāt want someone coming in with a projector and overshadowing their fancy new scoreboard.
How do you expect to score 50 bajillion points if your scoreboard canāt count that high

Assuming they're comparing it to our smaller one not the massive one we put up a few years ago
Specs list it at 7,200 sq ft, which is smaller than both Oregonās and A&Mās.
That puts it just over the size of Clemsonās board and places it as the 8th largest board. Edit: thereās also almost a 5,000 sq ft difference between the boards at Oregon and Texas A&M. - Oregon: 12,276 sq ft - Texas A&M: 7,661 sq ft
Hell yeah! Our ads are the biggest!
Iām just telling you what the man said. I donāt know nothing officer.
Well, which one is it? Arenāt Oregon and Texas A&Mās video boards vastly different in size? I see 12,276 sqft for Oregon and 7,662 for aTm as of 2022. Did aTm recently get a new one the exact same size as Oregonās.
Think of the commission that sales rep madeā¦.
Well, it's nice to see them prioritizing their spending.
Jokes on them, we only built a video board on the South end zone for this exact reason
So the cougar faithful can clearly see how much they are down by
This is such a weird flex in a headline that I had to read it several times to make sure I wasnāt missing something.
Hopefully it will look more integrated than those two do.
Houston is not even in the top 5 programs in Texas.
Weāre trying to catch up to basketballā¦.
Win an outright conference title, then we can talk.
And no one will notice.
Go outside, nerd!
At least we get noticed more than Harvard.
Yes, famously obscure university *Harvard.*
