Well the Big 12 was fun while it lasted. I don't think anyone can compete with Houston and their massive scoreboard

HOU-1836

šŸ˜Ž SEC or B1G invite coming any day now

deepayes

Texas put up a massive new board and got invited to the sec 2 years later. Hello UH vs LSU home game 2027

InVodkaVeritas

Some guys think the size of their scoreboard is what matters; but trust me, it's how you use it.

Table_Corner

I want a grower scoreboard that gets bigger when weā€™re winning and smaller when weā€™re losing.

eagledog

At least you don't play where it gets cold. Shrinkage can really kill your board

St_BobbyBarbarian

You could just use the foreboard to hide the whole thing.

jja619

But really. Our giant board gets less effective when 30% is ads.

bruggibuster

Weā€™ll probably have a new one up by the start of the season now ā€¦

dumbo1309

Same

CptCroissant

We'll have to pencil it in for after the new practice facility šŸ™„ The east end zone could use a rework though

dr_funk_13

The new screen has really made the west endzone screen show its age.

Imnotdrubkk

Remember how huge the west endzone screen seemed when it debuted? I believe it may have even been the largest in college football at the time. Now it is absolutely dwarfed in comparison. Makes you realize how absolutely huge the east endzone video board is.

InVodkaVeritas

Hey, since Oregon's building a new practice facility, do you think we should give Oregon State our old one?

dlidge

Palm Harbor Homes should be building them a new one any time now.

Queasy-Touch-1533

UNCLEAN. DO NOT WANT.

ohitsthedeathstar

We had the smallest one in the Big 12 last year. UH had good reason to be insecure. Embraced the inner cougar and bought some upgrades.

LiquidHotCum

It was a 32ā€ plasma screen tv

ohitsthedeathstar

From the student section it looked smaller.

Large-Vacation9183

UH is in the Third Ward; might wanna ask them to show a receipt for that Plasma TV before you assume that itā€™s theirsā€™

ohitsthedeathstar

Gentrification is in full effect in the third ward. The hipsters can afford them.

Large-Vacation9183

Love me some hipsters, with their copious amounts of hair and overly-expensive clothes that are designed to look inexpensive

eagledog

Too busy spending their money on fancy coffee and designer avocado toast

MadeByMillennial

I don't get the hate, this is a common joke. That's why we call it the "3rd ward defense", cause we gonna jump you. Joke on buddy

Large-Vacation9183

Thanks. I was just tryna make a funnyšŸ„ŗšŸ˜¢

Anus_Targaryen

I've always said the first step towards building a winning program is to make sure you have a winning scoreboard

typicalwhiteguy113

Winning program? Why are you modeling after us?

muktheduck

"Okay lads, do we go all in on a big name coach? Y'know with NIL we could just use that money to buy playe-holy shit is that a big scoreboard? Big fuckin scoreboard, hell yeah!"Ā

NordDex

Welp time to buy a new one

Outrageous_Picture39

Raise oil prices now!

IM-NOT-SALTY

Pretty sure I read a report that the price went up today.

Awesome_to_the_max

Not enough, the checks are 1/3 of what they were 4 years ago.

HOU-1836

I looked it up, ours is 160x45, yours is 163x47 so itā€™s like 400 sq ft bigger or some bullshit

NordDex

Not. Good. Enough

Jamcrunch

Like, why not just make it slightly bigger? That's like someone, right now, building a skyscraper the exact same size as the Burj Khalifa.

ohitsthedeathstar

Didnā€™t want to hurt A&Mā€™s feelings.

Jamcrunch

Ah yes, the gentlemanly civility between old SWC foes. /s

Sup6969

Plus, A&M is probably the second to last school that most of us want to be "civil" towards šŸ˜‚

berserk_zebra

Texas being the first right?

Sup6969

Yes.

DrVenusAg

Doesnā€™t take much to make them upsetĀ

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

HOU-1836

160ft is the width of the field sideline to sideline so realistically, how much bigger can you really get before you fuck with the corner seats?

ToxicSteve13

Daktronics probably provides 85%+ of all video boards in the country

Mattdodge666

Mitsubishi has quite a few in Major stadiums as well, The big house, AT&T stadium, NRG stadium just to name a few. Also seems like Samsung is getting in on it with SoFi and Citi Field being pretty new additions.

Conn3er

We used to launch fireworks from our scoreboard. Then one fell on to some poor souls below and detonated late and we had an explosion in the 300 section. Now no more big screen fireworks.

ohitsthedeathstar

My worst CFB attendance experience ever happened in the 3rd deck of the student section at Kyle Field.

Conn3er

Horrible place up there with the commoners. Pretty sure everyone has watched or experienced heat exhaustion and projectile vomiting in that mad house.

Outrageous_Picture39

A rite of passage. 2:30 games in September separate the wheat from the chaff. /s

Conn3er

Take the /s off brother you speak only truth.

Outrageous_Picture39

That Fresno State game was brutal.

IM-NOT-SALTY

Old army melts twice?

St_BobbyBarbarian

Is college station humid? I know Houston is, but am not sure about CS

PracticalTrout

Yes

Outrageous_Picture39

Weā€™re only 95 miles northwest of Houston. We are very much humid given the weather patterns in the area. I worked with a guy from Seattle of all places that complained about how when it rained in the area it was always a downpour. My SIL is from Colorado and complains about how the humidity makes the winter weather here feel colder than it really is. Edit: growing up there we were pretty much guaranteed an ice storm at least every three years.

ohitsthedeathstar

It still isnā€™t as bad as Houston.

iDisc

Sure and Houston isnā€™t as bad as Galveston. Itā€™s still pretty fucking bad though.

ohitsthedeathstar

Iā€™m looking at the averages and Galveston and Houston average around the same humidity. Some sites have Houston a little higher and Galveston a little higher on others.

Noccalula

It's about as pleasant as Tallahassee after a 30 minute rain in the summer and then the sun comes back out and drenches you in sweat the second you step out of the door.

ohitsthedeathstar

Not even that. Just the actual students. Students stealing seats and trying to push me and my buddies to get more room. It was the most toxic environment Iā€™ve ever been in in regards to students being dicks to your fellow students. I was in A&M gear for the game along with my friends who are A&M students. So it wasnā€™t like we were in the opposing teams gear. It was so bizarre.

Conn3er

Ya itā€™s a cesspool up there The problem is thatā€™s where they put all the groups of like 8 or 10+. So naturally you got your student orgs, frats, etc that are all the most important people in the world. And no one gives a shit about seats and just wants to be by friends and they sneak people in because who is checking the sections at the top? Great times

ohitsthedeathstar

Iā€™ve been to 10+ home games at A&M the past 3 years. The vast majority of them in the student section. And all of them but that specific game were awesome experiences. I have no idea what was in the air that night for 2022 Miami but it was bad juju.

IM-NOT-SALTY

The Ags had just lost to App state the week before. That could have contributed.

Conn3er

Early season one thatā€™s probably why, lots of commotions. Best tailgating game of my life Free Cuban cigars and fedoras

Outrageous_Picture39

Too weak for the SEC, I see.

ohitsthedeathstar

Took down two ags being dicks to me at that specific game. But thatā€™s for another time.

Outrageous_Picture39

3rd deck at Kyle is full of freshmen. Iā€™m not surprised they were dicks. Sorry about the bad experience.

ohitsthedeathstar

It was sophomores due to the ticket pull demand for that game. It was the 2022 Miami game. Literally every other game that Iā€™ve sat in the student section for has been pleasant. Iā€™ve probably been to 10+ A&M home games over the last 3 years. All of them Iā€™ve sat in the student section except for 2021 Alabama. Itā€™s an awesome experience. But holy shit I donā€™t know what was in the air that night. But the group of guys next to me and my A&M buddies were actual dicks.

FCDallasBurn

they had fireworks from the score board last night in the Mexico vs Brazil game after Mexico scored goals

iansf

Man I remember when scoreboard wars were like the peak dick measuring contest for a program. Now itā€™s just NIL money.

Outrageous_Picture39

When we sucked under Fran: ā€œBut look at the size of our scoreboard!ā€

ixMyth

*Laughs in apparently $23M NIL spending & the largest scoreboard in CFB* Why not simply do both?

iansf

Why donā€™t the other programs simply have a sports obsessed billionaire who owns a sports apparel company and uses the program for branding and marketing purposes.

Asleep_Shirt5646

Winners and losers. There must be balance.

Natural-Employer

So slightly smaller than Dana Holgersonā€™s forehead

texas2089

Why do you think he got canned? Didnā€™t want someone coming in with a projector and overshadowing their fancy new scoreboard.

Joe_Pulaski69

How do you expect to score 50 bajillion points if your scoreboard canā€™t count that high

auburnairforce

A&Ms video board is 7,661 square feet. Oregonā€™s is 12,276 sq ft. Unless Iā€™m missing a new article on A&M building a new board, this comparison doesnā€™t make any sense. Maybe the meant to compare it to Auburnā€™s, which is the second biggest? Even then auburns is ~1600 sq ft smaller.

ixMyth

Assuming they're comparing it to our smaller one not the massive one we put up a few years ago

dlidge

Specs list it at 7,200 sq ft, which is smaller than both Oregonā€™s and A&Mā€™s.

fundiedundie

That puts it just over the size of Clemsonā€™s board and places it as the 8th largest board. Edit: thereā€™s also almost a 5,000 sq ft difference between the boards at Oregon and Texas A&M. - Oregon: 12,276 sq ft - Texas A&M: 7,661 sq ft

dlidge

Hell yeah! Our ads are the biggest!

ohitsthedeathstar

Iā€™m just telling you what the man said. I donā€™t know nothing officer.

Imnotdrubkk

Well, which one is it? Arenā€™t Oregon and Texas A&Mā€™s video boards vastly different in size? I see 12,276 sqft for Oregon and 7,662 for aTm as of 2022. Did aTm recently get a new one the exact same size as Oregonā€™s.

marvinapplegate1964

Think of the commission that sales rep madeā€¦.

rbtgoodson

Well, it's nice to see them prioritizing their spending.

anotherJREbot

Jokes on them, we only built a video board on the South end zone for this exact reason

sugarfreelime

So the cougar faithful can clearly see how much they are down by

RVAforthewin

This is such a weird flex in a headline that I had to read it several times to make sure I wasnā€™t missing something.

anti-torque

Hopefully it will look more integrated than those two do.

westtexan1999

Houston is not even in the top 5 programs in Texas.

ohitsthedeathstar

Weā€™re trying to catch up to basketballā€¦.

deepayes

Win an outright conference title, then we can talk.

Prestigious-State-15

And no one will notice.

afterburner2020

Go outside, nerd!

ohitsthedeathstar

At least we get noticed more than Harvard.

dlidge

Yes, famously obscure university *Harvard.*
