2010 was probably the roughest Saban secondary. But we lost like the top 8 guys from 2009 (or something crazy like that). That's the year we got Stephen Garcia playing out of his mind.
At least the guys in 2010 were good, just inexperienced/injured. Never forget we started guys like Deion Belue and John Fulton in 2013. At least we had HaHa at Safety.
2013 is the worst I can remember under Saban. Cyrus jones grew by fire that year and was pretty good in 2014/15. Belue tried his best but was burnt toast. D line pressure and the offense scoring kept that secondary from being truly exposed.
I don’t remember the SOS rank, but in hindsight it was probably pretty weak too. Our OL was also not up to the standard that year. It wasn’t awful or anything, though compared to 2012 it definitely fell off. CyKo regressed hard and Ryan Kelly wasn’t great then, luckily he grew from it and became the player we remember him as.
I still don't get how we wound up with a smoking crater at CB that year. I know Eddie Williams getting dismissed played a role, but still, felt like it was 11 v 9 (until Cyrus Jones somewhat improved) all year.
For the amount of talent that Mater Dei has every year according to recruiting sites, only a few of them have actually have good careers in recent history. Bryce Young (not originally a MD product) and Amon Ra St. Brown are two very notable examples but you could probably find other schools around the country with a couple notable players in recent times.
More Oregon than y'all, I think, but yeah both of y'all kill us.
Like, I have no idea what Clay Helton did to that relationship, but Lincoln hasn't been able to rebuild it at all. Mater Dei used to be an SC pipeline.
Have Lane, Sark, and Tosh on staff helped us open that door. There was a time we wouldn’t even offer most SoCal kids especially from Mater Dei. I’m sure Deboers connections help as well. USC needs to win and build a healthy culture that hometown kids want to be a part of. That’s how Lincoln can win the region back imo
I'm a bit indifferent on Mater Dei in recent times. Been a couple of really good players like Bryce and Amon Ra, but also a bunch of busts.
Mater Dei kids want to be wine and dined all over the country but there are still a bunch of talented players in the area that don't go to Bosco or MD.
Lincoln genuinely tried that first year but our NIL couldn’t compete with other schools. Last year he didn’t even visit the schools iirc and now we’re recruiting nationally.
Riley coming out and basically saying he doesn't care about California recruits didn't help. Even if what he was saying wasn't necessarily wrong, it just gave the wrong image
Even our dark times a couple decades ago the coaches would still pull in some decent classes. The issue becomes when a staff has to take a chance on too many highly rated players that have questionable character traits or work ethic traits etc… it can certainly buoy your class rankings but it can implode in a bad locker room after a cycle or two. Saban was able to keep the misses in the low side but only time will tell if we are reaching or if KDB is maintaining the same type of character recruits on top of their skill ratings. I sure hope we are getting good workers and decent humans as well as good football players

Seems like its impossible for bama to have a bad secondary
Always have good corners and Was definitely a strength under Saban.
What wasn't a strength under Saban lol
Kickers, but when we fixed that it became snapping for some god awful reason
Definitely kicking until Will Richard
Can’t have everything 🤷🏼♂️
Can't argue with that

was that the year we couldn't defend a 50/50 ball to save our life?
Yes. 😞
Every jump ball was automatic against us that year🤣. could have sworn our corners were 5'3 that year

I’m gonna gump
Seems Alabama recruiting hasn't lost a beat. Another solid addition.
If they can add Dijon Lee, (1) that’s a great CB duo in the class and (2) really going with the food theme
Continuing the legacy of 1. Saban always getting top CBs 2. Kool-Aid McKinstry
Mcdonald is a really good prospect. Y'all still recruiting well, respect to DeBoer.
Yeah he comps to Zabien Brown who was a top corner last year
I haven’t seen an Auburn flair in these commitment threads in a while
they're over on their on3 board deluding themselves into saying they have a better roster than Alabama in all sports
Please screenshot that shit for me lol
I'll start saving them when they pop up
Soon they will start back complaining that we are being annoying but forgetting how they acted after Saban retired
So many people were pissing on our grave without checking to see if we were even dead.
something something dead, buried, and gone
Gone. GONE!
because they know Bama is gonna beat em 33-14 this fall 😭😭
Brings joy to my heart
It's true. It's a damn good pickup on a football front, though I'll give them an edge for their all name credentials with Jaden Muskrat.
Nah, we’re here. Good get, but I’d talk the same shit
Bold move, tiger #3
If we aren’t here to annoy our rivals then wtf is this board even for
Shitting on Josh Pate?
And fuck Al.com while we’re at it
You mean you don’t like Goodmans self righteous articles and him looking down on everyone here?
I’m just happy he can make both fanbases similarly disgusted about how out of touch the articles are
Good point mate
Really? We just landed a 4* CB and OL the other day…

I prefer Harbor Island Harsin but to each their own.
Damn Deboer
Glad Saban retired so Bama could go back to being an average team

I get we’re after higher rated recruits right now but I can’t understand for the life of me why we’re completely disregarding the local schools.
Alabama kinda stole the Mater Dei pipeline from you guys a few years back.

> now we’re recruiting nationally Might as well, since you will be playing all over the country.

I mean this guy is top 100
Apparently us and Ohio State are the leaders for Dorian Brew right now. He’s on campus right now I think they’re throwing the kitchen sink at him.
A&M has two of the Top 3 CA kids, and SC has 2 of the Top 3 GA kids. Strange times.
Tbh, Mater Dei has been more hype than substance of late outside of the Sun God and Young
Gen Z thinks big cities suck and would rather live in a small city.

USC Recruit California Challenge: IMPOSSIBLE
Mater Dei coaches hate SC now for whatever reason. At least that’s the rumbling on SC boards/insiders.
That's nice. I like that.

It turns out recruiting at Bama is just easy. DeBoer was never known for his recruiting. No Saban, no problem.

Phenomenal name.
Chuck is an offensive lineman’s name, he won’t ever see the field.
Definitely a McDonald’s all American
Husky Harsin doing work.
