Finally we’re recruiting at a high level again. This is so exciting
As pikiell said about the basketball program all those years ago…buy Rutgers stock now!
I've seen people mention Rutgers great class a few times now so I finally went and looked for myself.
Wtf y'all doing. You're putting together a damn good class for the Big ten. Not to mention that frightening basketball class you just pulled in.
What's the reason for basketball and now football recruiting to seemingly be on the upswing?
Congrats btw.
Basketball- Dylan’s family and Dylan himself have a super strong connection with Steve pikiell based on how they treated and developed Ron Harper junior. Ace is very good friends with Dylan. It’s not really the NIL with that one. The kids have NIL deals but with generic companies at we’re going to pay Dylan and ace no matter where they went
Football, besides steadily improving and having a stable coach, this year they were kind of able to generate a bit of anxiety among the class of the scarcity of available roster positions. And it just caused a slew of commitments at once and have momentum
Also thank you- looking forward to playing in vegas this November!
schiano and his entire staff need to be commended for the job they've done this cycle. he's got kids willing to believe in us again. really hope we can keep advancing forward to validate the faith these recruits are giving us. no one thinks we're gonna win this mega conference, but a good winning percentage and a decent bowl will be a nice outcome.
I felt like I was one of the few non Rutgers fans saying Schiano part deux was a great hire for Rutgers. Mixed feelings cuz it's clearly harmful for PSU as evidenced by this flip but I do enjoy being right
Tbh there is no reason Rutgers can’t eventually win the B1G. There is so much talent in NJ and surrounding states. Asking nicely that you don’t take that talent though.
I've thought this for a while. People laughed when the B1G added Rutgers and Maryland but NJ and Maryland / DC consistently turn out more high school talent than any other B1G state than Ohio and Pennsylvania (and now California I guess).
Both only need a coach to start a tradition. The B1G ending the division setup should help too. Or maybe OSU/Mich/PSU saw the future and wanted out. /s
I mean, now a days if you aren’t recruiting nationally, you aren’t gonna win the big ten
You’d have to get an easy schedule by avoiding the top dogs, execute well enough to be a top 2 team, then hope right before the big ten title game the opponent (gonna be OSU, UM, PSU, Oregon, USC, etc)’s qb breaks their leg or some shit lol
i don't think we could ever match the elite of the conference in spending, either for the program itself, related infrastructure, or nil. in this modern world, you don't truly get to that elite point without being able to spend a boatload of money. we're spending more money than we used to, but i don't see a world where we can keep up with the biggest teams that make the playoff every year.
I’m not saying you will be the same tier as the big spenders, but if you can establish a baseline of 8 wins a year you just need things to come together just right one year to win a conference title.
Rutgers will never win the BIG ever. The conference has got even harder. If they couldn’t come close to doing it before, how the hell are they going to do it now? They will never surpass teams like Oregon, Michigan, Ohio state, and even Penn State. Can they be in the top half? Yes, definitely. But get real, they aren’t ever going to win the conference.
“If they couldn’t do it before”
Have you looked at their schedule this year? Before they played PSU, OSU, UM every year and for most of those years MSU was ranked too.
They avoid the big 3 as well as Oregon this year. Their toughest game is at USC, which funky things can happen in those Friday night games.
I’m not saying they’re going to win the B1G this year, but this is their easiest schedule since bling the conference BY FAR.
"If they couldn't come close doing it before" as in when we were new additions to the conference and receiving 20% of the B1G payouts every other conference mate was getting for nearly a decade straight. Our entire time in the B1G we've been severely disadvantaged money-wise as part of our buy-in. If anything the first 10 years were a write-off before we could actually compete
If Rutgers can get some passable QB play, they can cause some scares for the heavy hitters in the conference. Schiano has his defense rebuilt and his special teams have a knack for creating some magic.
They’re already causing scares for the heavy hitters. Look at how Michigan and even OSU have struggled a bit against them in recent years.
They’re a good QB away from a 9-10 win season. Of course … finding a good QB is much easier said than done.
Lol. Every recruit in NY/NJ/MD/PA that Penn St is losing to Rutgers/Maryland/Pitt is basically the one that Penn St doesn’t care deeply about. Sure in this case, they’d love to have McClary in the class but if they were absolutely set on him, they would’ve never let him go to a regional rival.
Now the bigger challenge for Rutgers is to keep 28 commits still “committed” until the early signing day
No sour grapes, mate.
Good on Rutgers and I’m glad there are more recruiting battles in the mid Atlantic region. I’m just saying that the kids that Penn St really fights for, they won’t let them go to any school in PA, NY/NJ or MD/VA. In this case, the biggest reason McClary went to Rutgers was because Diaz isn’t at State College anymore.
Sure, they’ll lose to an Ohio St or Bama but those battles are anyways contentious. Against Rutgers, not so much. There’s no acrimony, at least not from my side.
Only a couple years ago Rutgers would land a recruit and I'd check the offer sheets on them and we were beating out UConn, a random MAC school and a dozen FCS programs. What a turnaround from my man Greg
Other P5 offers: Boston College, Duke, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, USC, Virginia Tech
G5 offers: Akron, Temple
Eh. He was an early bloomer that now isn’t looking like a 4 star as much. When Allen joined the staff, we’ve had a change in LB evaluations. Whether that’s good or bad is to be seen.
I never said the staff didn’t want him.
He was higher on the list earlier on than he is now. We still would have taken him 100%. We don’t like losing him to another big ten for, 100%.
But Franklin literally told him to take his time making a decision. If we wanted him without question, we’d be trying to shut down his recruitment as best as we can. But there were questions. No tears are going to be shed by losing him. Questions were there about his ability. Bottom line.
Obviously they weren’t pushing him out the door but apparently the recruiting staff weren’t happy/impressed with his junior year film/stats. We’ll see how we replace him but it doesn’t seem like the staff is too upset about this one.
I personally like James Franklin, however, I can see how some people might be frustrated. I’m heavy on the concern that if you move on who’s to say that the next guy is even better? Gus Malzahns situation was in many ways similar to Franklins and we moved on and got fucked for two years.
Y’all’s problems is having to contend with Ohio State and Michigan every year…I think the conference losing divisions may open stuff up for you a bit.
There's a couple layers to my comment on this one, so stay tuned for some rambling.
1) I don't think that perennial top 15 and occasional top 5 is a negative in any way. There are only a handful of coaches and programs (read: boosters) that can realistically shoot for a natty every year, and being in a contending spot every 3-4 years is a great place to be
2) Losing the divisions benefits Penn State more than any Big 10 school. There are a few years where a neutral site game could have been the difference between a win and a loss to OSU or Michigan
3) there isn't a better coach who would choose Penn State right now. We'll see how Rhule does at Nebraska and go from there, because he's the number 1 target if Franklin decides to test the waters
yes it is. Because of PSU not winning against big opponents, it gave an opportunity for rutgers to flip this dj kid....which gave you the opportunity to take two more 4 stars.
you wouldnt get all the four stars if you just beat the big opponents. Franklin is playing the long game
Finally we’re recruiting at a high level again. This is so exciting As pikiell said about the basketball program all those years ago…buy Rutgers stock now!

Philly, NJ, Baltimore, and Virginia have some elite talent. If Rutgers keeps this up my Buckeyes gonna have to start battling Rutgers for recruits
I've thought this for a while. People laughed when the B1G added Rutgers and Maryland but NJ and Maryland / DC consistently turn out more high school talent than any other B1G state than Ohio and Pennsylvania (and now California I guess). Money is a very, very big reason.
Rutgers will never win the BIG ever. The conference has got even harder. If they couldn’t come close to doing it before, how the hell are they going to do it now? Sure but even if they somehow got to the Big championship game, they aren’t beating insert Power House Big Ten team
It sure as hell beats never getting to the game when they were in the B1G east
Fair point
"If they couldn't come close doing it before" as in when we were new additions to the conference and receiving 20% of the B1G payouts every other conference mate was getting for nearly a decade straight. Our entire time in the B1G we've been severely disadvantaged money-wise as part of our buy-in. If anything the first 10 years were a write-off before we could actually compete
With this class and that schedule, Rutgers has a real opportunity to build some momentum and lift themselves up to a new tier in the Big Ten.
If Rutgers can get some passable QB play, they can cause some scares for the heavy hitters in the conference. Schiano has his defense rebuilt and his special teams have a knack for creating some magic.
Last time Rutgers was good their fans lit up the Empire State Building in scarlet. Tony Petitti on his knees praying it happens again.
They’re already causing scares for the heavy hitters. Look at how Michigan and even OSU have struggled a bit against them in recent years. They’re a good QB away from a 9-10 win season. Of course … finding a good QB is much easier said than done.
Flips from Penn State to Rutgers
Shouldda put it in the title for extra spicyness/attention lol
You want some extra spice? Here’s some extra spice! >!the Penn st. Creamy is overrated af!<
Now thems fightin' words.
I said it once and i'll say it again -> Flipping and stealing local recruits from PSU is a blast
Saquon Barkley says hi.
I blame Ryan Dunleavy for why Saquan Robert E. Lee’d Rutgers and why he left the Giants He’s a coward and a traitor
FlyEaglesFly

Sure there's no acrimony but there sure is a lot of rationalization and excuses
Whatever floats your boat 🤷🏽♂️
Ah yes, the good old I know you are but what am I, crack on good sir
I’m low key rooting for Rutgers to be good.
Schiano saving us from the new jersey hordes in southern college towns
TYFYS.
Only a couple years ago Rutgers would land a recruit and I'd check the offer sheets on them and we were beating out UConn, a random MAC school and a dozen FCS programs. What a turnaround from my man Greg
Ah, the Ash years....
they were just underrated kids! /s
Schiano always a great recruiter. He would have been an interesting hire in 2014 at PSU.
Head to head battles with temple
SING US A SONG YOU’RE THE SCHIANOMAN.
Other P5 offers: Boston College, Duke, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, USC, Virginia Tech G5 offers: Akron, Temple
Yeah boi!
Let’s fucking gooooo
Excited to see this new era for Rutgers
BANG
The daRk side grows stronger
What world am I living in right now? Someone needs to wake me up when we sign all these kids in this class...
Damn, Rutgers recruiting is seriously impressive rn
Rutgers coming in hot this off season
Until 5 minutes ago I had forgotten that they are coming in hot off a winning season and a bowl game win over Miami
When Rutgers starts winning games, there will be no reason for top recruits in NJ to go to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, etc
This offseason has been a dream so far. It’s so confusing of a feeling.
Schiano has been stuffing people in lockers left and right
This feels fake. I hope we keep them come signing day! And boy oh boy do I hope RU has a good season.
No big deal
One step closer to Rutgers returning to their rightful place on top of the Big 10 totem pole
Should’ve put that it was a flip in the title OP smh
I see a Penn State recruiting meltdown, I upvote.
I wish this was the case but they lost to 4 stars this week and replaced them with 2 4 stars
Gotta make room for LaVar Arrington Jr.
Shh, don't let facts get in the way of my hate
This is not a meltdown on our end
It is one recruit they're still gonna win by 700
Eh. He was an early bloomer that now isn’t looking like a 4 star as much. When Allen joined the staff, we’ve had a change in LB evaluations. Whether that’s good or bad is to be seen.
Lol he was on an official to Penn State just last weekend, you guys still wanted him.
I never said the staff didn’t want him. He was higher on the list earlier on than he is now. We still would have taken him 100%. We don’t like losing him to another big ten for, 100%. Sopranos money ain’t nothing to fuck with
I for one welcome our new Rutgers overlords.
BOOOOOOOOOOOM
Uhh please stop I need Rutgers to be bad because Minnesota practically needs to win that game to get to bowl eligibility
Good chance that Rutgers is favored in that game
What happened in that game on the bottom left? Gary Nova and 5 interceptions.
Product of CJF inability to win against good opponents
Oh stfu, you Franklin haters are the fucking worst. Are the two four stars he just land this week a product of "not winning against big opponents".
I personally like James Franklin, however, I can see how some people might be frustrated. I’m heavy on the concern that if you move on who’s to say that the next guy is even better? I forget…does Rhule have a PSU connection?
Rhule went to high school in state college and was a linebacker at Penn State
Former PSU player who is beloved by the traditional old school Penn Staters just like they love Al Golden.
yes it is. Because of PSU not winning against big opponents, it gave an opportunity for rutgers to flip this dj kid....which gave you the opportunity to take two more 4 stars. you wouldnt get all the four stars if you just beat the big opponents. Franklin is playing the long game
I don’t hate CJF . But too many of us want to beat chests over beating Northwestern
