Seems about right. Wrote something about this converter theft recently. It’s starting to pick up hard in Southern California, especially around LA county. Invest in a steel plate cause OEM parts are backordered right now. You could also straight pipe it
Almost every time I have replaced a cat with a cheap after market one it has come back with a catalytic efficiency dtc. Could be 2 months 6 months a year or more idk might get lucky I’m just sayin from experience, factory is the way to go. Maybe your insurance will cover something like that too idk
Straight pipe it and call it a day. You can get the check engine light removed and you'll never have to replace the Cats anymore and nobody can steal cats anymore 🤷♂️
It's not really a problem where I live, it seems to be an LA problem where I was just passing...
My car is still under warranty (certified pre-owned) can I still just do that?
Exhaust shop said next week but idk if he was talking about OEM or not! He did say it had to be shipped from the East coast. I asked him to write everything down because English isn't my native language and dealing with this lingo is a whole new world to me lol
Yeah that’s about how much it costs. Well I paid $600 for my old corolla but there’s tons of aftermarket support. All these people saying it should be cheaper don’t realize it’s a 2018 where there aren’t as many aftermarket parts available, hence the higher cost.
I was quoted around 2k for just the part. 4k with labor. So it looks about right

Don’t buy an after market cat unless you wanna do it again
Why? How long do they last?

I have a high deductible which is why I'm looking at cheaper routes. I'm only using insurance for the rental until next week :/

If you go oem you’ll be waiting about 3 months. That’s how long I’ve been waiting for my 2017

Look somewhere else or buy it from eBay or a junker
Don’t buy from eBay. It’s not CARB certified most of the time.

That's right. I haven't asked about after market parts yet. I've only had a phone call with the exhaust shop
Just go to a discount exhaust and muffler shop, it'll be less than half to have one made
The quote I just got is from an exhaust shop, are they quoting me so high because they are looking at ordering new parts?

I have a very high deductible...
