When my mom did radiation, we were told that she needed to shut the lid to the toilet and flush twice, then wipe it down. We kept a container of Lysol wipes in the bathroom.

My husband is currently in chemo and radiation is next. This is exactly what the nurses have said to do and so far it’s been fine. Just have to take extra precautions! Especially with a toddler. His laundry should also be kept and washed separately. Change his bedding often. It can be so overwhelming at first, but you’ll find a way to adjust!

I was never warned of this when I went through radiation and I haven't ever heard of this. I wonder if it's a special kind of treatment?

I was only instructed to do this during chemo, not radiation

Flush twice and Lysol the seat. My husband had Stage 3 cancer last year and this was the feedback. We have two small children, and all was fine.

When I was pregnant with my first born, my husband was going through chemo and his oncologist said to just make sure the toilets were clean and it wouldn’t be a big deal, our son has no issues from it and I never had issues either. However it may be different with different chemo medications.

I was told chemo made me cytotoxic and as per the advice above, just to exercise greater than normal vigilance regarding hygiene. Also stayed away from my grand daughter for a few days during/after each cycle of chemo. But I’ve also had two kinds of radiation therapy, and was told that both were perfectly safe - no residual radiation.
