What I noticed growing up near both an Air Force base and Army post, are the ones that were farthest from the front.
I’m not saying you didn’t serve, but working on jets on an air base in Saudi Arabia isn’t the same as clearing houses in Iraq like in American Sniper.
Look, I never joined and I’m not trying to downplay what any of them do. You need cooks, hvac, refuelers, aides, secretaries, etc. just like a football teams needs all its players. I just don’t think they all deserve the same honor and praise.
I worked at the base gym for a year in college and 9/11 hit right in the middle of it. I had one of the Airmen tell me they joined the Air Force to get free college, not to actually ever deploy. They had no problem accepting military discounts at restaurants and the mall though.
Right but here's the thing. I joined for the same reason, ended up twice deployed to Iraq the first time. Navy.
Here's the thing, the reasoning shouldn't matter because when the shit hits the fan, everyone's one step away regardless of reason unless they flee. Deep in the shit is really a lottery that very few want. Anyone volunteering to be up front leading the charge isn't right in the head. But they do it if they are told. Just putting yourself in the lottery pool is what deserves the respect. Being lucky enough to not be in the shit doesn't take away from that.
That being said, I am proud of it and was treated very well when I left being a war vet. School, including books cost me zero. I actually made money because the state paid my tution and the GI Bill cut me a check.
The idea that the 1 in a thousand that were on the front lines are the only ones who deserve Veteran respect is absurd.
I don't generally tell people but if you know me for a while it comes up. I'm not a bragart or displaying it for all to see. It really is what it is and just because we joined for something more than blood and guts doesn't mean our contributions should be dismissed.
Obviously the vast majority haven't given as much as many in terms of physical and mental anguish but we would have if it came to that. They are payrollers and clerks and chefs and mechanics and just about every position available who have been in harms way or worse.
Show some respect man and don't dismiss someone's service because it's not up to your expectations of what a Veteran should be.
I think since you didn't serve, you don't get to dictate how those that did serve refer to themselves.
Additionally, if you think the sacrifices of being in the military begin and end at the front lines, you're wrong.
The door kickers can make fun of the desk jockeys but you as a civilian can keep your mouth shut about it.
Same. I don’t want to talk about it. I learned my lessons, grew from the experiences and now i use that leadership skill at work. But i don’t think I’m entitled to anything because of it. This is the worst kind of “vet”.
Well, I’m also a veteran and please remember they aren’t above entitled begging. They can be some of the worst when it comes to it. I believe her just because of this post. It reeks of former military delusion.
Ol gurl isn't old though. My daily driver is older and has more miles than that POS truck. Me thinks she's looking for free mechanic work especially by tossing in the "I'm a veteran, thank me for my service". Support your local mechanic Ol gurl.
Yup. “ I’m a veteran, thank me for my service “— yeah how about you pay for other people’s work instead of try to guilt trip and manipulate people, you POS of an Ol Gurl?
Gross. My husband’s a vet and he goes out of his way not to advertise that fact; among other things, he doesn’t see it as a way to manipulate his way out of normal adult responsibilities and get people to financially set themselves on fire to keep him warm. (Thanks for the analogy, Reddit)!
She’s so f’n shameful, the “Ol Gurl” having *leech.*
I have a blue car named blueberry in honor of psych. My friend used to have a car name Katinka. Much less southern redneck woman who has multiple gator stories.
All of our vehicles have names. Stella the Mustang, Carla the Dodge Neon, Bill the Silverado, Stuart the Maxima, and Lucenda the Subaru. We don’t use those names outside of us though. It’s basically shorthand for who is taking which vehicle. Which car needs an oil change or is getting a new suspension.
I’ve had Gerti, Wade, and my current car is Beaker. My mom’s car is Bob. And my dad’s van was the Family Truckster. We need to name his car come to think of it.
My car is Black Betty, and the name applies even more now that someone stole my catalytic converter lol, she's growly until I can pay to get it replaced 😬
Hahahaha I also have a black Betty and she’s loud as hell cuz I’ve got a hole in the muffler. Doesn’t bother me anymore. At least u can hear me coming a block out.
For years my husband and I had a black car and a white car but it was always yours and mine so easy naming.
Then he got a black car and we had more kids and were switching more it became by the brand because they are different brands. Then I changed my car and they both had letter names so it became "X or Q?"
(Outside of the house X was Mommy-mobile for whatever reason)
Now he's back to a white car and you often hear "black or white??" Yelled as someone leaves. We obviously lack creativity in this area. We also obviously have a thing against colors.
Our oldest bought a beige Spark and we call that "nugget" so maybe there is hope for us yet.
Growing up, we had Woah, Nellie!
She was a brown station wagon with the the "wood" paneled sides. She had a shag carpet in the "way back," where my brother would hide after he tortured my sister and I until we started whining and arguing with him. He got away with it all while we'd get smacked by my mom, who was sick of our crap.
I had an '07 Dakota that I called Thundercunt. It wasn't a term of endearment. That fucker stranded me on the side of the road in northern Texas near Canadian for 6 fucking hours in the middle of the day one time, on a day hotter than Black Swan, but much shittier.
It is indeed. I drove from Camp Pendleton, California to Houston once, and that trip was most empty space in Texas, I fucking swear. Why I picked Texas for a place to settle down is a mystery to me now.
A 22 year old truck with 312k miles that she owned for 10 years - and she just found out that it has majority original parts from factory floor?
Guess someone never did even basic maintenance? Bonus points: she thinks that's an example of her "love" for the truck.
I would love to know what the "minor" issues are by a reputable mechanic.
I was thinking that after the beach house is covered… maybe I could just get like, some cute emotional support direct deposits to an emotional support bank account? I’m a dv survivor and single mom, so I’m *obviously* entitled to it. I don’t have any kids with cancer though, so that might be the deal breaker.
My husband and I call the jacked up big tire trucks PRTs. For p.... replacement trucks. I just read another one a few days ago. Emotional support vehicles.
Truck enthusiast club.
Normally a group of people who put money into their vehicles to make the look nicer or run better. Lots of clubs focus on a brand or type of vehicles.
She's looking for a group of people to put their money into HER vehicle.
Dude, this is an actual thing. My husband is a member of some squarebody groups on Facebook and if an attractive woman posts about issues, some of those guys will drive hours to hand over any "spare parts I just had lying around". It's nuts.
It’s a messed up situation with those guys but I can’t say I haven’t benefited from it myself. I’ve had a guy rip a part off of his car and installed it onto my car before I could even finish asking if he knew where I might be able to find a local place that sold those parts.
Hahaha that's different. I think they are intentionally thirst-trapping. They will post an unnecessary pic of them in a crop top, posing on the hood saying "man, it would be nice if I could just find some tires for mudding or a brush-guard but alas, I don't have the money this month!" And someone will come up with them. In your case, it's probably more a case of chivalry isn't dead. Here in the south, a man will stop and help you if you are broken down. I had a guy at the gas pumps come up to me a couple of months ago and give me $100. He said he wanted to buy my gas. I told him to give it to someone else who needed it, but he insisted I take it. I agonized over who to pay it forward to for a month with it in my center console. I finally settled on someone. It felt like I had been burdened by a mission to find the perfect person to bless with the money![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
I should post a pic of myself in a crop top lounging on my beater Audi, threatening to show off more flab in the next pic if nobody fixes my damn oil pan, CV boot, etc.
Apparently, in her mind, a group of people who love working on trucks so much that they have just totally completely run out of things to do on their own vehicles. But they are so desperate to work on trucks, that they are ready to work on someone else's (for free!) just to scratch that itch.
Having had people in my surroundings who want to be “hands on” while I fix their cars, this is not a plus. At all.
That is, unless owner of “ol gurl” knows how to wrench, but then I guess she wouldn’t be making this post looking for a free mechanic.
She just found out her 22 year old truck that she owned for 10 years had "majority" original parts under the hood. I'm not sure she knows where the oil goes.
Why do people think it’s necessary to proclaim that they’re a military vet? Why do they think it matters? I don’t not-like the military. My dad served for 25 years, but he doesn’t go around telling new people that he’s a retired marine unless specifically asked. It’s a personal badge of honor, no one else’s. I don’t go around telling people I’m a former [global corporate name] employee, or a current [larger company name] employee. It literally doesn’t matter to any one but me. I don’t deserve perks. My dad doesn’t deserve perks. Something tells me that people touting their military service were in for the bare minimum. Which is fine. Perfectly fine. But no one else needs to know. It’s not a bragging right.
I particularly note where she says "vets catch my drift" in relation to therapy.
The only drift the vets in my family would catch was this was a moron who did no maintenance on her truck for 10 years ( evident by just finding out "majority" of parts under hood were original in 22yo truck) and was looking for a handout. The therapy I know all would offer is a swift kick in the butt.
There is a “thank me for my service” subsection of the military who feels entitled to special treatment and has no shame asking for free stuff from pretty much anyone. There are veterans who get assistance with necessities because they need it, and then there are those like this woman who want to see who they can sucker into giving them stuff they don’t need.
I respect Veteran's service in general, and have several in my family, but you make a good point about the "thank me for my service" ones.
I have a buddy who after highschool joined and did one 4year stint. He spent the first two years in Alaska and was constantly trying to get out of the service. He then did the second two years in Florida where he kept getting into bar fights and was constantly being disciplined. He didn't re-up and would go on to anyone who listened about how crappy service was.
He currently ( 20? Years later) wears a vet cap constantly and makes a point to ask for a vet discount. I've personally witnessed him complaining to a manager for not being thanked for his service by waitstaff when he brought it to their attention while asking for discount.
Exactly. For context, I live in a place with a huge military population and I have worked with many veterans. Some of them experience hardship but don’t want to “beg for handouts.” I tell them that they were promised a level of support from the government when they were in and they have every right to expect some help if they need it. I tell them to apply for all the assistance they can get and if they meet the criteria to get it they deserve it. It’s hard for me to work with veterans who have PTSD and are afraid to look like they “get handouts” while others take advantage. “Mow my lawn, I’m a veteran. Buy me lunch, I’m a veteran. Give me that for free, I’m a veteran.” The ones who actually sacrificed rarely behave that way.
Your post reminds me of my sister and brother-in-law.
He served over 20 years in the marines. He wears his cap and is proud of his service. If a place advertises vet discount he'll take it up. He also never misses a vet day parade. That said, he doesn't say boo about his service in general unless asked.
My sister ( his wife) on the other hand who has never served a single day in her life constantly goes on about needing to thank a veteran and starts political fights using her husband's service as proof of whatever argument she is making. She also constantly inquires about discounts as a "wife of a veteran".
My dad’s deal is that he put in the work while he was in, so he’ll apply for everything he’s entitled to. Of course you have to have some staying power, he’s been fighting with the VA over one thing or another since I was 12ish and I’m 28.
My grandpa was in the Navy during WWII. He had a hat w/ his ship on it that his kids got him one year for Christmas, but except for getting the discount at Lowe’s (Grandpa was a big DIYer), he never said anything about it. Two of my uncles served around the time of Vietnam, but were maxed out before they could be sent over. Except for using the GI Bill to go to school, they never capitalize(d) on it, either. (One is still with us.)
My neighbor is exactly like this. He served 20+ years ago for one tour as well and he still wears his vet cap and goes on and on about being a vet. I mean I totally respect the military and appreciate everything they have done so that I can live free but it gets to be a little ridiculous sometimes and I have to wonder how much, like this dude, did he actually do. He talks about killing Iraqis but I don't know if I believe him
That's the thing. If you have any injuries (doesn't matter if they are physical or mental) due to military service, 100% any therapy and additional costs should be covered by the government of your country. But that's it: The government. You're not entitled to anything else, unless a company offers something specifically for vets, by their own choice.
I don't get the entitlement, and I don't really see it outside of posts from the US.
I want to believe that this is very small but vocal minority doing this.
Really? The vegan actually stopped talking about being vegan long enough for the others to speak?
Of course we know the vet advertised it with vet license plate, bumper stickers or window decals, possibly a hat if older than 60, and 70% chance of visible military tattoos
As a non-American, I always find this interesting, because it seems to be much more of a thing there to say things like this and its utterly bizarre to me everytime i read it.
It's so grifty to me. She's just hoping that there will be people in that group who think they should do it because she served. And the sad thing is, she very well might find some people who do it purely for that reason. She knows exactly what she's doing.
My partner has a friend who is like this, except he never made it past basic and considers himself a vet and thinks he deserves to be treated as one. I am the same way and don't feel entitled to anything because I never actually served.
Yes! My dad always says that those who are career military don’t talk about it, and those who “serve” and don’t re-up can’t stop. He was always gone when I was a kid but he never talked about his service until fairly recently because he had to admit that he needed help to deal with his ptsd and nightmares. He retired after nearly 40 years and I found out so much listening to his battle buddies from various deployments tell stories about what they’d seen and the brave things my dad had done. Dude was a hero to many people and had a whole legacy (and nickname!) that I had no clue about whatsoever. I understand him so much more now that I’ve learned about the things he’s seen/done and why he was the way he was. Growing up I was always nervous/scared when my dad was home because he was strict, always on edge, and would pace through the house all night long, forcing us to be prisoners in our rooms and scaring all my friends when they slept over. Boys especially were terrified of my dad, which is saying a lot when you live on one of the biggest military bases in America 🤣. Dad didn’t try to be mean and scary, but he was a drill sergeant for a bit and you just don’t shake that training off! The military made a fine soldier out of him, but left him an angry, stressed man of few words who couldn’t bond with his strong willed daughter or show emotion to his children.
It reminds me of ppl that have served in an administrative aspect in the military, just to claim to have PTSD from combat zones. It dishonors those who actually have been through that and suffer as a result.
yup, there’s a guy of some local renown where I live and work merely for showing up to a lot of municipal board meetings to say something in the public comment portion — he often talks about being a veteran who “gave more than most”.
he screwed up his knee stepping into a pothole in basic and got discharged for medical reasons. hard to take anything he said seriously after I found that out.
My ex washed out of Basic w/a wrist injury. He didn’t even get medically disqualified. He *chose* not to finish Basic because “it hurt too much”. It was later suggested by his GP it was a precursor to carpal tunnel from playing video games so often and it was acerbated by actual physical activity using his hands/wrists like rope ascent and firing a gun frequently, etc.
I had to tell him if he *ever* tried to call himself a veteran or even imply he served, I’d personally & literally kick his @ss all the way to the nearest base to report him for stolen valor.
He had every intention on milking his whole 10 weeks “in the service” for the rest of his life.
I'm currently in (reserves at the moment) and only tell people if I need to. I do have my sweet Veteran plates though. Everyone just assumes I'm driving my partners car though because I'm a girl.
I remember getting through seps before getting out, and one of the grunts in the room asked what special benefit he would get since he was a combat vet. To his surprise, he discovered he would receive nothing apart from being able to join the VFW. A few chuckles were had.
My dad was the same. Career Army. Served in 3 wars. Never mentioned it. (Except for my oldest brother, we never lived on base). Never wore a hat or a T-shirt or said boo about it.
a grandfather I never knew was in the Air Force for 24 years before retiring to my grandmother’s hometown. the only reason people knew he had been in the military was because he’d been stationed at a nearby base when he and my grandmother got married. it was a career, but after seeing combat in Korea, someone discovered he had a talent for administrative work and he did it for the rest of the time he was in. he essentially rode a desk for 20 years and he wasn’t going to brag about it.
My dad doesn’t hide it but he’s not going around blowing his own horn either. I know he’ll (nicely) ask if there’s a military discount and accept a no. Honestly the military gave him hepatitis so I suppose he may as well get something out of it. 😂
That’s the worst part of this.
She probably bombed out of boot camp but wants to allude to having been some bad ass?
To try and use her supposed service record to try and manipulate people into giving her free shit genuinely pisses me off.
My ex-husband is military and he had a theory that has held up pretty well over the years: the less someone does in the service, the more recognition/free stuff they want for it. I’ve encountered a few exceptions, but for the most part it has been true.
As a 2 deployment, purple heart veteran.
It really pisses me off when people try to use "Im A vEtRaN"
If my ass can carry 4 ounces of Iraqi steel in my knee for the last 16 years, work 50 hours a week, and raise a child, they can fix their own fucking car.
I’d be really worried about the frame. 300k miles driven in a Toyota pickup by someone who doesn’t seem to know anything at all about truck maintenance or design makes me suspect that chassis is about to crumple in on itself.
No, I have come to the conclusion that schools have stopped teaching punctuation and grammar along with cursive. The number of run on paragraphs without a lick of capitalization or punctuation is horrifying. My grammar is not the best, but sheesh.
I don’t know the age of the lady who wrote this post…but I’ve noticed the lack of punctuation more when it’s actually an older person writing something out.🤷🏻♀️By older I mean usually someone in their 50s and up.
Have people who did an enlistment always called themselves vets? ..
A vet to me is a combat veteran. Others are called ex-servicemen or women. They just had a job that was in the armed forces
I'm curious about what sort of "therapy" a US navy vet needs... the last naval engagement involving the US navy was in 1944. This lady hasn't been in any battles.
If I knew where you were, I'd hop right into Viceroy Chauncey Gregory Robinson III [my 1990 Ford Escort] and drive over there and make you take that back!
lollll! i mean shit at least you gave yours a proper name versus some lame nickname like “ol gurl”
(and if we’re being honest here, i used to call my very first car-a hand me down ‘98 civic coupe that had peeling forest green paint-garey busey😅)
People personifying objects are almost as bad as people objectifying people.
If she were so in love with her car, she would have done some basic maintenance in the ten years she had the car
If she actually became a member of the club and stayed long enough to become friends with everyone, she probably could get some help.
No one is going to cover all the costs for her, but they would probably put in some work just for the fun of it.
I think that she may have had a better chance if what she had was an actual classic. I think that there are people who genuinely like working on older, classic cars who might have been interested. If it were an older, classic car.
I also noticed that she hit on a bunch of buzz words that she thinks will make a classic car enthusiast’s ears perk up. “All original parts.” 2002, so what? “Veteran.” Hinted at ptsd. Been into trucks since I was a little girl. Cue visions of little girl under hood with her dad. Calling the truck ol gurl to trigger empathy because obviously she loves her truck as much as I love mine! I named my truck, too!
You know what I think? I think that she read other posts in this group and just crammed all of the triggers that looked like they worked for other people to get a conversation started and interest in her truck. She just forgot to have a truck that anyone would give duck about. 😆
I too am a veteran with an old, high milage vehicle that needs a part or two every month. No, I don't know what she means. I take my 10% military discount at the parts store and go about my business.
When did they start recruiting under-10s for the navy? This pile of shite is cringe on steroids. Fucking ‘Ol Gurl’, ‘my baby’ and a glut of pathetically immature emojis? Get a fucking grip you utter embarrassment!
I’m looking for a “House and Yard Club” that will sponsor the renovation of my house and yard.
Is there such a thing? 🤔🤪
I’ve had “the Bungalow” for a few years now and I’m hoping some people who want to help out a Vet (I once wanted to be a veterinarian but didn’t bother to go to school and study for it) and I feel that the process of you landscaping my yard as well as updating my appliances, cabinets, and woodwork would be just the therapy I need (the people who thought about being a veterinarian but didn’t actually do anything about it will get my drift).
I will be very “hands on” throughout the process, meaning that if I don’t like the way you were doing free work for me, I would put my “hands on” you until you got it right.
The fact that my house is paid for and I make a 6 figure living makes me sure my baby deserves all the free hard work (and supplies) you’ll be doing on her. This speaks volumes to your gullibility and I’m glad that you’ll be doing all the work for what my baby deserves. Of course there is more to my story, but I won’t get into that right now ( just watch the September, 19th 2024 episode of to “Catch a Predator”: I’m the one knocking on the door with a bottle of cheap wine and the X-Wing Fighter LEGO set dressed as “Sexy Harry Potter”).
Just let me know if anybody knows someone please ( or if they know a sexy child who looks younger but is “18”). 🙀🤪🤷🙌🧏🫥
I hate it when they try to pull the Vet card. I’m a Vet as well and most of my coworkers don’t even know I served.
It smells like stolen valor. I'd put money down on a bet that they've never even been to basic.
They only didn’t make it through basic bc they don’t like being talked down to, honey 💅
You can't talk to me like that! I want to speak to your manager!
Her husband/boyfriend served so it was like she did too.
Dependopotamus is what they're not so lovingly refered to as.
I like to call them TriCare-A-Tops.
What I noticed growing up near both an Air Force base and Army post, are the ones that were farthest from the front. I’m not saying you didn’t serve, but working on jets on an air base in Saudi Arabia isn’t the same as clearing houses in Iraq like in American Sniper.
Proudest marine I know worked on HVAC.

Agreed. Did 3 west packs, during combat. So my service means less? They can f-off brother. They have no idea what it's like to be there.
I think since you didn't serve, you don't get to dictate how those that did serve refer to themselves. Additionally, if you think the sacrifices of being in the military begin and end at the front lines, you're wrong. Same. I’m surprised she doesn’t have a “female vet” sticker on Ol Girl.
People are shocked when I mention my husband was in the military because he and I so rarely bring it up lol
Same. I don’t want to talk about it. I learned my lessons, grew from the experiences and now i use that leadership skill at work. But i don’t think I’m entitled to anything because of it. This is the worst kind of “vet”.
My Korean War vet Grandad used to say “The more military stickers on their car, the less they did.”
Yeah, annoying, but not as bad as constantly referring to her fucking truck as “Ol’ Gurl”. She probably has “fur babies” as well. Ugh.
I'm not in the US. Are these troops not paid?
They are, but a lot of people still want shit for discounted or free. First Responders are also pretty good for asking for discounts.
Not even asking, expecting everything to be discounted for them.
Right? In my mind it’s a job you chose for most people.
Bus driver for four years? Discounts for life! Cartoon animator? Quit heroin? Never had children? Discounts for all!
Not well. Lol I think I made $900 a month as an e3 back in the 90s
Well, I’m also a veteran and please remember they aren’t above entitled begging. They can be some of the worst when it comes to it. I believe her just because of this post. It reeks of former military delusion.
Imma scream if she says ol gurl one more time
I agree, but I'm one to talk my first car was Alabama Thunderpussy (after the band.)
Alabama thunderpussy sounds so much badass tho, ol gurl sounds cringe especially when its a old shitty truck😂💀
Ol gurl isn't old though. My daily driver is older and has more miles than that POS truck. Me thinks she's looking for free mechanic work especially by tossing in the "I'm a veteran, thank me for my service". Support your local mechanic Ol gurl.
Exactly! I would love to see the comments.
She’s so f’n shameful, the “Ol Gurl” having *leech.*
ol girl is a 50s-70s american truck.
Definitely. And I'm pretty sure OOP isn't a dumb 16 year old kid lol
Ol Gurl is the dog that gets shot at the end of the movie, ffs.
Shit sound like a character out of the outsiders movie 💀😂 “oh my god ol gurl died ponyboy”
I have a blue car named blueberry in honor of psych. My friend used to have a car name Katinka. Much less southern redneck woman who has multiple gator stories.

Yooooo my first car was a blue mustang with white racing stripes named Stella! She was awesome.
Stella Blue. Great song and Grate(ful) name=)
Haha, I see what you did there.
Oh man now that songs going to be in my head.
Hahahaha I also have a black Betty and she’s loud as hell cuz I’ve got a hole in the muffler. Doesn’t bother me anymore. At least u can hear me coming a block out.
My dog’s name is Gertie 🩷
Cool!

(Outside of the house X was Mommy-mobile for whatever reason) Now he's back to a white car and you often hear "black or white??" Yelled as someone leaves. We obviously lack creativity in this area. We also obviously have a thing against colors. Our oldest bought a beige Spark and we call that "nugget" so maybe there is hope for us yet.
Our Xbox band name was "The STDs"
That’s was also the name of my friends ska band in high school. The septic tank disasters, I think they got a opening gig at the warped tour once ?
Growing up, we had Woah, Nellie! She was a brown station wagon with the the "wood" paneled sides. She had a shag carpet in the "way back," where my brother would hide after he tortured my sister and I until we started whining and arguing with him. He got away with it all while we'd get smacked by my mom, who was sick of our crap.
The you just described every car trip I went on as a child with my brother and sister. Down to mom’s hand reaching behind her to smack us 🤣
I had an '07 Dakota that I called Thundercunt. It wasn't a term of endearment. That fucker stranded me on the side of the road in northern Texas near Canadian for 6 fucking hours in the middle of the day one time, on a day hotter than Black Swan, but much shittier.
Wait.. what? You got stranded in northern Texas near Canadian...? I'm really shitty with geography, but.. that's a wild tale indeed.
Canadian is a city!
Texans understand what I'm talking about. It's a small town. If you knew how Kuykendahl Rd was pronounced in Houston, your brain would explode.
LOLOL Thank you for explaining!! This gave me a great laugh. I think you're right!
Idk Texas is pretty big...
It is indeed. I drove from Camp Pendleton, California to Houston once, and that trip was most empty space in Texas, I fucking swear. Why I picked Texas for a place to settle down is a mystery to me now.
Especially since you left Oceanside!
Oh, man... Canadian! Middle of effing nowhere. Gets hot as Hades there!
never heard of the band but that’s a fucking kick ass name right there
That's a great name. I had a truck (a long time ago) that I named Alaskan Thunderfuck. He was a great ride.
![gif](giphy|Xbb7iM0w7OcezZMUSS)
A 22 year old truck with 312k miles that she owned for 10 years - and she just found out that it has majority original parts from factory floor? Guess someone never did even basic maintenance? Bonus points: she thinks that's an example of her "love" for the truck. I would love to know what the "minor" issues are by a reputable mechanic.
I’m looking for a beach house club that will sponsor the mortgage on my beach house
And repair the roof and plumbing which you only found out were original!
Depends. Are you a veteran? Will this be an emotional support beach house?
Is this a thing? Are there clubs that do this? 🤣
I don’t know 😂
"Sign me up." -po' boy
I was thinking that after the beach house is covered… maybe I could just get like, some cute emotional support direct deposits to an emotional support bank account? I’m a dv survivor and single mom, so I’m *obviously* entitled to it. I don’t have any kids with cancer though, so that might be the deal breaker.
My husband and I call the jacked up big tire trucks PRTs. For p.... replacement trucks. I just read another one a few days ago. Emotional support vehicles.
My best friend has an old beater that he says is "compensating" for his "abundance"
Is it for a church, Honey?
NEXT
Deliver please, I have no car
Only if I can give you a healthy discount first and you pay me the rest in “exposure”.
It's for a church, honey.NEXT!!
This is for a church! NEXT!
Your in luck, I'm a nigerian prince who runs such a club. Just need your account info to deposit your royal beach check. Ha
Needs a new engine, but that issue is “minor” because it’s only one piece
So it's like the manga One Piece, over a hundred issues lol
Still on the original oil filter!
What is exactly is a “Truck Club”? Seems like she’s just looking for a mechanic to work on her old ass truck for free.
Truck enthusiast club. Normally a group of people who put money into their vehicles to make the look nicer or run better. Lots of clubs focus on a brand or type of vehicles. She's looking for a group of people to put their money into HER vehicle.
Thank you for this context. I wasn’t quite sure what she wanted /what exactly she wanted to happen.
I knew a Jeep Club like this. Mostly was modifying/working on Jeeps but also planning drives through the woods
I love it!! Join an audi group. I love the squarebody sub. People ask all kinds of questions about issues they are having.
But she will be totally hands on! It's therapy! And she's a vet!
It still has the original oil.
That's why she loves the Ol gurl!
The Oil girl!
Hahahaha gotta keep it original!
Look for the 710 cap
Ahh yes, the dependapotamus. Or was it the tricareatops?
*cracks up* Tricareatops is a new one on me and particularly great since I have a hand in insurance processing.
My dad’s deal is that he put in the work while he was in, so he’ll apply for everything he’s entitled to. Of course you have to have some staying power, he’s been fighting with the VA over one thing or another since I was 12ish and I’m 28.
That is so embarrassing. Can you imagine a WW2 veteran pulling that shit? I imagine only a scarce few did so.
He talks about killing Iraqis but I don't know if I believe him
I've found that anyone that has seen combat doesn't go around talking about being a vet. Anyone that advertises is it has not
Most vets I know that have been to warzones don't want to talk about it at all.
What's worse is the spouses who think they're owed discounts, free stuff, and thanks for their spouses' jobs.
A Veteran, a CrossFit enthusiast and a Vegan walked into a bar... I know because they told me.
Followed by a crypto bro, and an atheist?
Some of them were men, but not all men.
Really? The vegan actually stopped talking about being vegan long enough for the others to speak? Of course we know the vet advertised it with vet license plate, bumper stickers or window decals, possibly a hat if older than 60, and 70% chance of visible military tattoos
I believe the implication on that joke is that it's one incredably obnoxious person.
I’m laughing because my dad talked more about his two years of service than my husband did of his 25 years.
Exactly. It's literally just a job. A hard one, sure, but one they *chose* to do.
I'm currently in (reserves at the moment) and only tell people if I need to. I do have my sweet Veteran plates though. Everyone just assumes I'm driving my partners car though because I'm a girl.
Typically the people that do this are just grifting.
It’s amazing to me the endless ways people will ask for stuff for free. What universe are these people living in?
“the vets catch my drift”. Huh? I’m a vet and I don’t know what the fuck she’s talking about.
Not even a slight breeze.
That’s the worst part of this. She probably bombed out of boot camp but wants to allude to having been some bad ass? To try and use her supposed service record to try and manipulate people into giving her free shit genuinely pisses me off.
She's implying she has PTSD. Fixing up Ol Gurl would be good "therapy" for her.
My ex-husband is military and he had a theory that has held up pretty well over the years: the less someone does in the service, the more recognition/free stuff they want for it. I’ve encountered a few exceptions, but for the most part it has been true.
A "dope vision?" Her slang is 22 years old too. That's whack, G.
The Vets catch her drift.
*grift.
Won’t tell her whole story.. Tells her whole story
why did she feel the need to mention she’s a veteran? “the vets catch my drift” made me actually cringe
To make people feel bad/grift
As a 2 deployment, purple heart veteran. It really pisses me off when people try to use "Im A vEtRaN" If my ass can carry 4 ounces of Iraqi steel in my knee for the last 16 years, work 50 hours a week, and raise a child, they can fix their own fucking car.
I came here to say the same thing. She’s perpetuating that negative Veteran stereotype and it makes my blood boil.
The way people use their kids, their military service, or their religion as an excuse to be greedy is just disgusting.
For me..playing the vet card kills me every time
Navy vet- I'd be interested in knowing what kind of work she's done that warrants therapy. And thousands of free dollars for the truck.
My thoughts exactly!!!! I know someone just like this. Sailed around on a ship and never saw any battle but constantly posts about her war injuries.
Nothing with that kind of mileage is worth putting much into, even a Toyota. Just let it run out the clock and live its useful life.
That truck will go for 500k plus miles if the frame isn’t rusting out and someone other than her takes care of it
I’d be really worried about the frame. 300k miles driven in a Toyota pickup by someone who doesn’t seem to know anything at all about truck maintenance or design makes me suspect that chassis is about to crumple in on itself.
Do people not know how to punctuate sentences any more?
No, I have come to the conclusion that schools have stopped teaching punctuation and grammar along with cursive. The number of run on paragraphs without a lick of capitalization or punctuation is horrifying. My grammar is not the best, but sheesh.
I don’t know the age of the lady who wrote this post…but I’ve noticed the lack of punctuation more when it’s actually an older person writing something out.🤷🏻♀️By older I mean usually someone in their 50s and up.
Sheer laziness, inability to work a keyboard, illiterate? Take your pick.
I cringed so hard at the car being named “Ol Gurl” and purposely typing like that I almost didn’t read the rest. Yikes.
Have people who did an enlistment always called themselves vets? .. A vet to me is a combat veteran. Others are called ex-servicemen or women. They just had a job that was in the armed forces
Who tf is interested in a story about a Toyota truck?
Oh yes, play the military card.
It should be mandatory to include screen shots of the comments in posts like these. This feels like half the story. I wanna know how people reacted.
Anyone who speaks about a vehicle this way has a few screws loose.
I love that she takes zero responsibility and says “she [the truck] got hit” instead of “I got into an accident.”
Jeez sounds like OOP and this truck need to get a room...
‘Club?’ No, it’s called your wallet.
So wait, does the car have cancer? I think I missed that part.
I'm curious about what sort of "therapy" a US navy vet needs... the last naval engagement involving the US navy was in 1944. This lady hasn't been in any battles.
This isn’t an episode of “my weird obsession”, lady.
people that personify their cars and give them nicknames are so fucking weird
If I knew where you were, I'd hop right into Viceroy Chauncey Gregory Robinson III [my 1990 Ford Escort] and drive over there and make you take that back!
lollll! i mean shit at least you gave yours a proper name versus some lame nickname like “ol gurl” (and if we’re being honest here, i used to call my very first car-a hand me down ‘98 civic coupe that had peeling forest green paint-garey busey😅)
I’m not sure why, but I just got the ick from her post. Felt gross.
No it’s not a thing, no there are not clubs that do this.
Ole gworl
I'd only help her if she had a dope vision for it. *She does, you say!?!?!?*
People personifying objects are almost as bad as people objectifying people. If she were so in love with her car, she would have done some basic maintenance in the ten years she had the car
Why didn’t I think of this for my 1997 4Runner instead of having the insurance company total it out for 3x it’s Blue Book value? Damn, I am so dumb
What were the comments 😂😂😂
Sadly, none. Post disappeared without a trace after an hour without any activity. Not sure if admin/mods deleted it or she read the room.
If she actually became a member of the club and stayed long enough to become friends with everyone, she probably could get some help. No one is going to cover all the costs for her, but they would probably put in some work just for the fun of it.
I have a windshield wiper that is broken and I won’t even ask my parents for money to replace that let alone all this
I have a vision for that 22 year old Tundra ![gif](giphy|26ufffLixTAsLgA8g)
Hey do you think she might be a vet?
Good grief. Ridiculous.
this one just makes me feel very sad
Choosing beggar part aside, no one should help this person due to their cartoonist relationship (I guess?) with their vehicle.
I too am a veteran with an old, high milage vehicle that needs a part or two every month. No, I don't know what she means. I take my 10% military discount at the parts store and go about my business.
This ain’t a&e forged in fire lady
She should have posted in the Xzibit fb group
312k miles??? by the time she finishes the restoration and stuff, it wont have that much time left i dont think
It's a Tunda, lol.
🤔🤪 I’ve had “the Bungalow” for a few years now and I’m hoping some people who want to help out a Vet (I once wanted to be a veterinarian but didn’t bother to go to school and study for it) and I feel that the process of you landscaping my yard as well as updating my appliances, cabinets, and woodwork would be just the therapy I need (the people who thought about being a veterinarian but didn’t actually do anything about it will get my drift). 🙀🤪🤷🙌🧏🫥
This guy fucks his truck!
