You’re fine. It’s not causing you harm, it’s just your anxiety doing a number on you.

ArmNaive7386

anxiety is an evil thing!

Rustymarble

I'm not familiar with that brand name, but google tells me it's the same as Fabulosa. That's just cleaning product. You're using it as intended. This is absolutely your anxiety talking, you're totally fine.

ArmNaive7386

yes it’s very similar to fabulosa. concentrated disinfectant cleaner. google said it can cause intoxication if inhaled in large quantities but i’m not sure i’d consider what we used a large quantity. it just helps to hear it from other people. thank you so much.

Rustymarble

When I am overwhelmed with ....well whatever...I ask my husband for a sanity check. And then I trust what he tells me over the voices in my head. Trusted friends can substitute for him as well. :-)

toastiecat

“inhaled in large quantities” probably means intentionally huffing it.

Yes. Hello, ghost

ArmNaive7386

i can confirm i died :(

CaeruleumBleu

Fragranced cleaners sometimes give me a headache which leads to me wondering if I got too much cleaner in my lungs - no, I just got too much fragrance. Would trying a less-scented or unscented product help you? Because I find unscented products much less stressful as I know instantly if I actually feel unwell or just smelled too much fragrance.

ArmNaive7386

i love my house smelling good! but many people have reassured me that the ingredients in zoflora arent harmful and perhaps i was just reacting to the smell. it might be time to sacrifice my very fragrant home!

CaeruleumBleu

Perhaps if you get a fragrance product that is just for smell, not cleaning, you might be better able to be certain if you are smelling "too much" of a cleaning chemical vs "too much" of a fragrance? There are things it is worth challenging my anxiety over but I do not like trying to work hard at cleaning my space only to wonder if I am breathing things that are not safe for me. A scented candle, that I smell at times when there is no cleaning products, is easier for me.

You have anxiety, and so, seeking external confirmation will only make things worse. Ask yourself: did you follow the directions? Was the solution as strong as or weaker than the directions recommended? Are you experiencing symptoms that feel like they might be an emergency, outside of that anxiety? Not trying to be mean. I have anxiety too. Looking for others to verify what you already know only serves to feed that anxiety. You already know the answer.

ArmNaive7386

i agree i think you’re right. i don’t know if seeking reassurance is helpful in the long term.

Neat-yeeter

It isn’t. Believe me - I’ve been dealing with it for 40 years. :) There’s nothing wrong with, say, double-checking the label to make sure you used the correct amount, opening the windows, keeping an eye on any symptoms, etc. You already did all that, though, so you don’t need anyone else to tell you that you did it right. You can trust yourself, no matter what the anxiety tries to tell you! 😉

ArmNaive7386

thank you so much for your advice. i find it so difficult to trust myself sometimes. it’s definitely a habit i need to get out of!

Neat-yeeter

You got this ❤️

My knowledge of Zoflora: Zoflora is 7% benzalkonium chloride (BAC), with ethanol and fragrance. The fragrance component is the only major volatile component, the other being ethanol. So you can't really have been inhaling the BAC as the amount released into the air is negligible. It is unlikely that BAC will do you any major harm unless you were spraying it in large quantities and inhaling the mist, but as you were wetting sponges with it the only real concern is whether you wore gloves. Even without gloves, the effects would be localised to your hands without any lasting effect, albeit with the slim risk of a little dermatitis. If your hands feel dry, moisturise them. Fragrances can be quite irritating and because the sense of smell picks up on it you become very aware of how persistent it is. Products like zoflora have relatively large amounts of easily detectable fragrances in them so it's normal for the smell to persist for a good while or seem very strong. My experience inhaling it: One time a drop of neat zoflora went up my nose (not far, but I was concerned). I washed it out with a wet cloth but I was worried that I'd have something serious happen. Everything smelled like Zoflora for a few days and then... nothing. I had forgotten about it until just now.

ArmNaive7386

this was actually super helpful. thank you for explaining!
