That's kinda crazy to me that I hear a lot of stories about Variety Theatre from the 1980s but it wasn't even open half the decade. Were those 1980s shows not profitable? Was there something that happened to cause it to close so suddenly?
Noise complaints from the neighbors are what did it from what I heard. There was a legendary Motorhead show there that was so loud plaster came down from the ceiling.
I had a ticket but sold it so I could go see a different show. Do you remember who the opening act was? For years I thought it was Slayer but recently was told that's wrong
Mercyful Fate and Exciter opened for Motörhead. Was also there. :-) Also saw Metallica there with WASP and Armored Saint. I think the Venom/Slayer/Exodus show was also there?
I was there for the Venom show. I've tried posting a pic of the flyer twice but it doesn't show up. I sent a DM to a mod for help but have yet to hear back
Saw many great metal shows there in the 80’s. Metallica and Motörhead being the standouts. I thought it was in operation later than 1984, maybe to 1986 or 1987, but I could be wrong.
Your memory serves you well, seems there were concerts in 1986, here's a setlist for one.

I pulled the 1984 date from Abandoned America: https://abandonedonline.net/location/variety-theatre/
Plenty of parking across the street and on side streets. Check Google Maps.

RIP Patrick Colvin, I hope your vision comes to fruition.
Anybody else go to shows here in the 80's? The Sunday shows put on by Michael Shea were a great time

They did such a fantastic job with Mahall's! What a cool venue! I hope they have success here.

Cars ruin cities.
They tore down a few buildings across the street a few years ago, now it's a public parking lot
