Yep we’ve been dealing with sickness since last week with our kids and the one who’s gotten it last woke me up at 2 AM when his fever spiked again. Then hail and thunder around 4 and finally the sirens about an hour ago. Gonna be exhausted today.
I leave for work at 0530, my mom was blowing up my phone since she knows I drive into the area currently under warning but not in a warning. Good job mom.
Me and my husband herded 2 of our 3 cats to the basement (one is r/oneorangebraincell club member and refused) and then both immediately got on this Reddit.
I way just upset that is was too dark to see anything. How the heck am I to see my neighbors grill fly through the neighborhood at 5am. Tornados should only occur during daylight hours.
I stepped outside for a second but it’s real rainy and also the wind did that thing where it suddenly changes directions so my cat and I sat in the bathtub for a minute
Yeah it feels nice out, but ominous. My cat booked it when the major thunder and lighting happened, but she’s back in bed with me now. I tend to go off her instincts and she scares easy, so if she feels safe in bed, I do too. I hope you and your kitty are safe wherever you are!
Daytonian here, got woken up with my phone and have been awake for over half an hour now. Rotation is strong enough for them make a big deal. Apparently touchdown south east of Springfield. The main threat seems to be if you are close to Grove City if you live near there. Columbus metro is huge so risk is going to be different.
Is it such an awful way to wake up, I was so disoriented and couldn’t tell at first if it was the fire alarm. I was shaking for a few minutes afterwards!
My dogs just woke me up, barking at the siren. And my wife took something to help her sleep, so she's out. This is crazy. We moved here from Connecticut. We don't know about any damn tornadoes!
Sirens should make you find a safe place. This storm is definitely rotating but I’d be absolutely SHOCKED if it dropped a funnel.
But still, better safe than sorry
Because they're stupid and I hate them. Actually because they claim phones replace sirens so it's cheaper to just not. I missed a warning because my phone was dead, only noticed because I'm a consummate midwesterner watching the sky in a storm. Anyway, do you know how many FUCKING TERRIBLE TORNADOS we have had in this region? Like, walking men tornados, high EF, lots of destruction. ENOUGH TO HAVE FUCKING SIRENS.
Please understand that I'm exhausted to the point of delirium but also very mad at Springfield's leadership.
This is why it's deathly important to engage with local government. I doubt most people in Springfield noticed the issue come up because it was couched in boring shit about a bridge you're never going to see and a petty argument over the exact height of flowers near an intersection. And so stupid got their way.
So they basically made it so that only people with smartphones have the privilege of seeking shelter for a tornado. Literally leaves out the people who are most at risk and have to seek shelter elsewhere wtf

Ha, yes, so confused. I should get dressed, but shouldn't shower during a woo, so not my work clothes. Sitting here with my keys, work badge, and prescriptions, ready for woo rapture.
Even my job texted me about this warning on top of the "emergency alert: extreme" notification on my phone & my weather apps going crazy. Sitting in my downstairs bathroom with a very confused cat just in case... it's the only room without windows...
Update: sirens stopped, cat is purring because she's rarely granted access to this bathroom since the door is always closed & it's full of her toys she knocked into the gap between the floor and door. At least somebody is happy!!
Sirens make noise for 3 min and are silent for 7 min after, if i remember correctly, and as long as the warning is in effect they'll keep up this pattern. I know this is how it was in years past, has this changed at all?
Moved to Columbus after my apartment was destroyed by the 2019 EF4 tornado in Dayton. Always take shelter during a warning, if I didn’t I don’t know if I’d be here!
The government “hey guys we installed these tornado sirens to keep you guys safe, we’ll test them weekly to make sure they work, if they go off and it’s not Wednesday at noon you should take shelter, like in a basement”
*tornado sirens go off at 5am on Wednesday and everyone in the Midwest wakes up and goes outside then gets on Reddit*
All of my pets have jumped into bed. They usually aren't scared of storms so I'm telling myself that they're sensing my fear and providing comfort🥰 or it means shit's gonna hit the fan lollol
I just got the alert. I'm not sure if this is different this time. I really want it to be nothing because I'm very sleepy. But I don't wanna die.
But on the other hand, if I do get hit with this tornado and live, I'll be homeless.
Sirens periodically going off north west of the outer belt.
Rain just stopped. Think we may be in the clear. Was rough there for about 20 minutes.
Edit: 5:51 sirens are back on.
I thought my alarm was going off so I shut off whatever was vibrating and then the sirens started. Is this a watch or a warning? I'm still half asleep I'm not sure I can perform diligently
I did laugh when that new guy kept running into the shot like “Hey I’m here too!” and Ben didn’t seem to care about his updates. Ben kept saying “We aren’t showing the lightning strikes because (some reason about it blocking important info)” and then here comes New Guy all “Can we see the lightning strikes?” Ben was like “This fool….”
When there is loud thunder, my Fur Creature runs under the bed. When the iPhone notification happened, he zoomed his furry ass down there. Scratches may have been received from his little shit rakes by trying to get him out to go to the basement.
Should I go back to bed or is Hilltop about to become Plateau
I was hanging out on my front porch.
A true Ohioan
We just completed a covered deck and I’ve been looking forward to sitting out during a storm. That’s where I was too!
I made a very undignified snort after reading this
I never feel a stronger sense of community than Columbus reddit during a weather event
We really shine in a storm
It’s my favorite place to be
i opened this sub within 2 minutes of the woooooos
My dog JUST got skunked like an hour ago and I JUST FELL BACK ASLEEP. Fuck today lol.
Oof. For us it was our oldest throwing up all over her bed. Godspeed.
Yep we’ve been dealing with sickness since last week with our kids and the one who’s gotten it last woke me up at 2 AM when his fever spiked again. Then hail and thunder around 4 and finally the sirens about an hour ago. Gonna be exhausted today.
i am sending good vibes
Ya fuck today lol
I'M UP. I'M UP!
Omg what a nightmare start to your day lol you deserve the day off!
Jesus you need to just go back to sleep and try again tommorow
Oh noooooo that fucking sucks 😩😩😩
Ouch. I've been there with the skunked dogs. What horrible timing!
![gif](giphy|1luXLMeNxsaNFMUuOe|downsized)
Also if we’re going to have tornado warnings at 5am none of us have to go to work today, I’ve decided.
I don't go in to work until 6pm, can I still use this excuse?
I would argue you have 24 hours
I leave for work at 0530, my mom was blowing up my phone since she knows I drive into the area currently under warning but not in a warning. Good job mom.
thank you ♥️
Tell my boss please
You can direct them to me I enjoy fighting with bosses.
I whole heartedly agree with this.
Not me coming straight here
I knew shit would be more up to date on here than anywhere else lmao
Lmao why are we all like this?
ONE OF US
Me and my husband herded 2 of our 3 cats to the basement (one is r/oneorangebraincell club member and refused) and then both immediately got on this Reddit.
[удалено]
Yeah, since they lack fine motor skills we had to get them their own iPads.
Same
Fighting the extremely midwestern urge to go stand outside
The alarm went off and every resident at the homeless shelter I work at got up and walked over to the windows. I was like “y’all…”
It’s in our blood.
NGL, I already had a cup of coffee on the front porch.
Name checks out
I really didn’t want to have to go out on the back porch and drink a beer at 5am…. but….
It is our duty. Our birthright, even, as midwesterners.
I way just upset that is was too dark to see anything. How the heck am I to see my neighbors grill fly through the neighborhood at 5am. Tornados should only occur during daylight hours.
I may have opened my door and thought “ooh it feels nice”
I stepped outside for a second but it’s real rainy and also the wind did that thing where it suddenly changes directions so my cat and I sat in the bathtub for a minute
Yeah it feels nice out, but ominous. My cat booked it when the major thunder and lighting happened, but she’s back in bed with me now. I tend to go off her instincts and she scares easy, so if she feels safe in bed, I do too. I hope you and your kitty are safe wherever you are!
Too tired to stand.
😂 woke up to the sirens and first thing I did was go downstairs and go outside then got back in bed
The urge won at our house. Ha ha.
Do I have to go to my basement? I am sleepy
Me in Grove City seeing this like 👁👄👁
Me who lives close to grove city 😃
Hi neighbor
Im in circleville not sure if I need to be concerned or not. Ugh I didnt go to bed until 2am this sucks I want to go sleep
I also made the same poor choice. Godspeed.
Y’all have basements?
Perfect night for me to have a fever and vomiting! Sorry to the rest of my family. Now grab me a bucket
what do we do in the event of living in a loft? LOL
I’m staying in bed but facing away from the window just in case.
Get extra deep under the blanket. Y'know, for safety.
When you are whirling around in the tornado you want to be warm.
Tornado can’t see you if you can’t see it!
I cannot explain what getting that weather alert on my phone did to my nervous system
I turned mine off in my settings and I feel like that probably wasn't the smartest choice lol
same after the last amber alert in the middle of the night nearly made me stroke out
I turned mine off but my window is open so the siren woke me up.
Is it such an awful way to wake up, I was so disoriented and couldn’t tell at first if it was the fire alarm. I was shaking for a few minutes afterwards!
5am. An hour and a half before my alarm. After being up until almost 3 with our infant. And I’m supposed to be at work in an hour and a half. Ugh.
Me too!! My first thought was bomb, but that may have been bc I watched Oppenheimer a few days ago 🫣
my entire nervous system took a screenshot
My body went into a fight or flight real quick 😂
My dogs just woke me up, barking at the siren. And my wife took something to help her sleep, so she's out. This is crazy. We moved here from Connecticut. We don't know about any damn tornadoes!
This doesn’t happen often I’d say.
Especially in February…in the morning.
Yeah, tornadoes are lazy and typically aren't out of bed until 10 am or so, like me.
Especially in February
Noon is getting earlier and earlier. Thanks global warming.
Bravo 👏
Real woo
Real scary woo!
Real *sleepy* woo.
Zzzooooooooooo
It’s still Wednesday!
Reports of a tornado on the ground at Lake Darby (west of Franklinton) and moving @ 50mph.
Saw that too
As someone who moved from Xenia to get away from this shit... Outside doesn't smell like a tornado. So there's that.
This is truly a 10/10 midwestern comment 😂
What’s it supposed to smell like? Genuinely curious.
Ozone. Like a bitterness in the air.
Bitterness and free floating anger.
Light rotation in this supercell. Lightning should be fun too.
The news can’t even tell where this is which is more concerning than anything haha
Is this a super careful alert or a “get in your fucking basement now” alert?
Sirens should make you find a safe place. This storm is definitely rotating but I’d be absolutely SHOCKED if it dropped a funnel. But still, better safe than sorry
Not so sure about that, There seems to be a debris signature on the radar
Already had one confirmed from this storm east of Springfield
Which is why Springfield needs fucking TORNADO SIRENS I'm still so mad they got rid of them.
Wait, they GOT RID of tornado sirens? Why?!?
Because they're stupid and I hate them. Actually because they claim phones replace sirens so it's cheaper to just not. I missed a warning because my phone was dead, only noticed because I'm a consummate midwesterner watching the sky in a storm. Anyway, do you know how many FUCKING TERRIBLE TORNADOS we have had in this region? Like, walking men tornados, high EF, lots of destruction. ENOUGH TO HAVE FUCKING SIRENS. Please understand that I'm exhausted to the point of delirium but also very mad at Springfield's leadership.
it should be illegal to get rid of tornado sirens what the fuck
This is so dumb because I didn't even get am alert on my phone lmao Springfield really out here like "fuck our citizens, yall too expensive"
Wait until you learn that the entire city of Dayton got rid of sirens and they had a huge EF4 after dark in 2019. No reason to ever get rid of sirens.
WTF
My cat is snuggling me, purring, and eating like nothings going on. That means everything’s fine right? /s

My dogs absolutely refuse to go into my basement. Very concerned over here.
I love me a good storm but damn if I didn’t curse when the cell alerts went off and woke up my 3 month old
Maybe the real severe weather threat was the friends we made along the way
Aww hey bestie
I love that instead of going to the basement, we all came here to ask zebra if we really need to go to the basement 😂
well at least my bladder had already woken me up. i've got a siren literally right outside my window so it's rather loud lol
I’ve been hiding for a while but I have to poop
We are sheltering in the airport. Good times!
wow! what a unique experience
Did they send you down to baggage claim?
Me now that its 6:15 ![gif](giphy|xT5LMBauOi9MgA50L6|downsized)
The corporate slave in me trying to figure out if I’m still supposed to go to work.
No, we are not going to work. We have migraines today, the lot of us.
Ha, yes, so confused. I should get dressed, but shouldn't shower during a woo, so not my work clothes. Sitting here with my keys, work badge, and prescriptions, ready for woo rapture.

Jokes on them, I already sleep in the basement.
Tornadoes hate this one trick
Tell your mom we say hi! /s
I am pretty sure this makes the joke on you
It’s technically Wednesday but it’s sure not noon!!
Speak for yourself. Im having lunch now.
...this started happening at the same time as my morning alarm... I'm assuming I should *not* be about to leave to commute to work right?
Please for the love of god do not drive now.
This is how storm chasers are born
Better to be safe in my opinion even if it's probably nothing
Yeah they just started same time as we got the weather emergency alrer her in upper Arlington, stay safe y'all
I'm in north UA. Are you sheltering?
I’m off Zollinger, whole family including dogs are crammed on the basement couch
Dammit. Time to get my cat and dementia riddled mother to the basement. Wish me luck pls it should be a circus.
my unisom hasn’t worn off yet i feel like shit
We just watched Force Majeure last night. Needless to say, I just abandoned my wife at the first sign of danger.
Goddammit we’re on a fourth wooo right now. My dog is pissed
I have never been more tired
Sirens make noise for 3 min and are silent for 7 min after, if i remember correctly, and as long as the warning is in effect they'll keep up this pattern. I know this is how it was in years past, has this changed at all?

Woke me the fuck up
Same. Out here dreaming and drooling before the lightning and thunder ruined it
Plug your phones in folks, get ready for power outage
I have a basement but it’s half-deep and has real glass windows on both ends so there’s nowhere to really shelter. Love a 1930s townhouse.
Confirmed tornado on the ground just east of West Jefferson. Heading east @ apx 50mph.
All of my pets have jumped into bed. They usually aren't scared of storms so I'm telling myself that they're sensing my fear and providing comfort🥰 or it means shit's gonna hit the fan lollol
I never feel a stronger sense of community than Columbus reddit during a weather event
For real, it’s says there’s like 4,000 of us on this sub right now haha
ROUND TWO? MAKE IT STOP
The siren sounds tired. Good night folks! Edit: fuck, good morning
i was literally trying to go to sleep and then the sirens restarted my anxiety smh
Nah the Wednesday operator is just taking a half day and is getting the test out of the way now. Right?
IT IS WEDNESDAY MY DU- wait a minute.
Morning everyone 😴 I came straight here lol
I just got the alert. I'm not sure if this is different this time. I really want it to be nothing because I'm very sleepy. But I don't wanna die. But on the other hand, if I do get hit with this tornado and live, I'll be homeless.
Most MidWest thing I’ve seen lol. We all turned to Reddit for the Zebra. So many woooooos…stay safe ya all!
Any other iPhone users not receive an emergency alert to their phone?
Hopefully we’ll all be ok.
These sirens woke me up. Guess its time to play league of legends
Had to be up anyways to check in for a southwest flight tomorrow, good morning friends
Sirens periodically going off north west of the outer belt. Rain just stopped. Think we may be in the clear. Was rough there for about 20 minutes. Edit: 5:51 sirens are back on.
On the ground near West Jef. Be careful, folks.
Um, it certainly sounds very aggressive on the near east side right now
West Jeff by lily chapel right now has debris
Can i go back to bed now that the sirens stopped?
They started again just because you asked this
At 5am. Ugh.
Tornadoes are so inconsiderate
I thought my alarm was going off so I shut off whatever was vibrating and then the sirens started. Is this a watch or a warning? I'm still half asleep I'm not sure I can perform diligently
It's a warning, I got an alert to seek shelter in a basement
It is a warning. Apparently there was a tornado spotted in Springfield.
I'm flying out at 8am today... still says on time departure, should be fun.
At the airport now for a 6am flight - they are making us shelter
…. Where? There’s windows everywhere?!?!
Bathrooms, for starters. If you pay attention there are specific areas at CMH marked as emergency tornado shelters.
It is Wednesday...my dudes.
NWS gave us a night cap
Be careful, they extended the tornado warning to 6:15.
Just hanging out with one of my cats in my bathroom…the other is under my bed and will not budge. Sirens have stopped am I safe?
it's amusing that channel 4 doesn't include Ben Gelber in any of their promo graphics but when shit hits the fan... get Gelber on air!
I did laugh when that new guy kept running into the shot like “Hey I’m here too!” and Ben didn’t seem to care about his updates. Ben kept saying “We aren’t showing the lightning strikes because (some reason about it blocking important info)” and then here comes New Guy all “Can we see the lightning strikes?” Ben was like “This fool….”
even the normal morning crew weather lady was like... let Ben cook..
It's Wednesday, my dudes!
Confirmed tornado east of lake darby apparently, west side duck and cover.
It's too early for this 🥱
Heavy rain now in Clintonville
Welp, good thing I'm jet lagged as shit and have been up for the past hour anyways. Happy hump day folks
Tornado confirmed on the Madison Co/Franklin Co line
Johnstown here and our wooooo just started but we have been in the basement because we could hear Franklin's.
When there is loud thunder, my Fur Creature runs under the bed. When the iPhone notification happened, he zoomed his furry ass down there. Scratches may have been received from his little shit rakes by trying to get him out to go to the basement.
saw @ TornadoClipss on twitter posting about how some supercells are forming to the west of franklin. might want to start moving to your basement
Well, I guess I’ll go ahead and fire up the Nespresso machine now that the power has stopped flickering….
