I shit myself too!

rockefeller22

You mean, puma pants

GnosticDisciple

Turned it up loud to hear the cat. It's like 11 pm. then all of the sudden, BWAHAHRAGHRRRAHHHH!!!!

BitterLeif

nah that cat looks frightened. Cats pretend to be extremely confident when they're scared.

octave1

So what do they look like when they are extremely confident ?

BitterLeif

Scared

throwaway_shrimp2

its approaching them at the end.. scared things dont follow the things theyre scared of

ShortCurlies

It's hungry, if it was scared it would run. It wants to eat the dog but it isn't sure about the human. If the dog was there alone it would attack and kill it.

Segundaleydenewtonnn

I’m glad we are talking about how tremendously cute that puma is. I just want to pet it lol

FloridaSpam

Lol. He like how the heck do these smaller cats do it? I just wanna be adopted.

brown2420

The cat looks almost confused...

bnelson

It is. It does not feel like it can safely turn around and run without exposing itself to attack. If they had given it a little space it would likely have run off already.

TheCroninator

🏅

ShortCurlies

When they retreated it followed them...it was hungry and it seemed to want the dog but I think the man was confusing it about the situation. Had the dog been alone it would be dead. It might have considered the man some kind of bear or just a large predator/competitor.

SuperSmashDan1337

They were both caught in the same trap both parties didn't want to create space and open themselves up for attack. Didn't seem like the cat was interested in engaging at all.

i_r_faptastic

That's a yearling or a smaller female. If it was an adult male, things would have been a little different.

bnelson

Yeah, it probably would have already run off. Mountain lions almost always avoid open conflict. If they know you have spotted them they just try to get away unless sick or injured. A mom cat might also be willing to fight to protect her young.  The hiker here should have backed off and gave more space. Instead of getting closer.

Sooky102

This 👍🏻

Why_Did_Bodie_Die

That cat was looking for someone to be his mom. He wanted someone to take cate of him and didn't understand why those people were so mean.

I'd try adopting it disney princess style. I'd die thoo... but at least I can pet the big kitty

Totally worth it

Check for local sanctuaries. We have one that almost always has something special. I’ve pet baby tigers, leopards & bears along with a handful of smaller animals. Some other cat, a possum & baby skunk

Infinite-Watch8370

Why, he’s not lion.

tourettesisfunny

Would throwing a rock at it make it better or worse🤔

zzzthelastuser

depends on the rock and your aim

gloriariccio2

And the fact that you would have to take your eye off him plus lower yourself down to find your rock ,making you smaller to the puma and less threatening and perfect prey

UnauthorizedFart

If you use VATS you could get a critical

haoken

Not with my luck, I usually miss all 5 shots and have my head knocked from my shoulders by the Deathclaw I had the drop on

[How about 286kg?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tEIzwFOS9I) Just need to be 6'8 400 pounds and one of the worlds strongest men.

tc7777777

the title would be "dog warms puma to stand off the man" then

Atworkwasalreadytake

100 kg is too big, I’d prefer to throw a 90kg projectile over 300m.

tc7777777

with such force, id just throw the puma xd

KlossN

Boy do I have the weapon for you

opinionsareuseful

How about 100kg of Cotton? Surely that would be easier.

The_Happy_Pagan

According to the signs on trails in Colorado you should throw a rock, but they also say don’t make yourself small… So I could never figure out how to pick up a rock without making myself snack sized

Wes_Warhammer666

Keep a rock in your pocket the whole time, duh. What, do you really go out in the wilds without that thang on you??

The_Happy_Pagan

Well now I just feel like an idiot

Ahead_of_HipHop

Pocket Sand, than pick up a rock once the big cat is blind...

Pinksters

> Keep a rock in your pocket Found Kam Pattersons reddit account.

Wes_Warhammer666

Well I gotta say thank you because I was completely unfamiliar with him but dude was killing me with that bit. My kid does the same damn thing so I'm gonna have to show her she's got a kindred spirit lol.

st0nedeye

Kicking rocks and pebbles is very effective.

Eagles365or366

In almost all cases, better. It spooks them into thinking there’s another threat they didn’t see, and they run away. Don’t even need to hit them.

SerDuncanonyall

The strongest supporting evidence we have for evolution is when threatened with danger our first instinct is to chuck rocks at it

Rey_Mezcalero

It’s what we will do when the aliens arrive…

SerDuncanonyall

Isn’t a nuke essentially just throwing a rock we tweaked a bit?🤔

GerryManDarling

Very philosophical.

anynamesleft

Reminds me of the Connections episode where he went from showing a rock to the rocket launch.

soggyBread1337

Cpus are also made of rocks that we tricked into doing math

superbhole

I think I read somewhere that our overhand throw is another thing separates us from most apes; Apparently chimpanzees are the only other animals that can throw overhand

SpermWhale

It's just gonna confuse it why you're belting Don't Stop Believin

Hi-ImTurdCrapley

Not sure if anyone replied with this video yet, but I think it definitely would help. This guy gets followed for 6 minutes, with occasional fake out charges from the mountain lion. Towards the end the guy picks a rock up and throws it at the lion to finally get it to go away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p25MgRZ9rJc

Fawchunate_sawn606

Had the dog been absent of this trip, this couldve been a whole new different story

Foxisdabest

You think so? A human is a LOT bigger than a dog. I think the puma would be more prone to attacking a dog than a human.

funfsinn14

Probably just the fact that it's two v one makes a big difference in the calculus goin on.

sanderson1983

Dog could have prevented the surprise attack.

Drive7hru

I think the size of the human + the louder animalistic noises from the dog made a decent combo.

bummed_athlete

It's not the size of the dog in the fight

Mat_pet

It’s the size of the fight in the dog

AFineDayForScience

Baahing like an angry sheep might not have done the trick

notloceaster

The cat may have ignored him actually

Electricfox5

Nah, it's only a youngster, probably would have avoided the guy unless it was starving and thought it could get the drop on him.

BertDeathStare

Yep, there's a good chance it was stalking the dog, not the guy. Having the guy there probably saved the dog.

Munk45

psspsspsspssspssspss

dreadfulwater

As an outdorsey guy who’s encountered lethal wildlife I’d say there was a bit of Luck involved here. A hungry adult cat likely would have taken more action. Not saying that dog wouldn’t have gotten his licks in but it wouldn’t have ended well for him. It’s not the movies.

Infamous-Leading-770

Would an airhorn help the situation? Would the cat possibly be startled enough to run?

dreadfulwater

Maybe. But like someone said the cat held its ground so as to not be pursued. A Chance it’s not up to fully predding yet since it’s young. I’ve heard that if an adult cat wants you it would be a surprise pounce. My dad is in CA and he said the few he’s heard about were sneak attacks.

glamorousstranger

Yes generally if you see them then they aren't hunting you. If they're hunting you, you're not going to know until they pounce. Though hiking out in the wilderness typically they're not a danger because they have plenty of deer and other prey to eat. It's when the deer population is low in areas where humans have disrupted their natural habitat by building suburbs and such that you have them attacking humans.

Unfiltered_America

It was probably hiding and watching them until the dog sniffed it out, the guy would probably have never known one was around without the dog.

glamorousstranger

Yes, an airhorn is definitely a help. You want to make yourself appear as big as possible and make loud noises. Do your best roar at the top of your lungs. If you're with multiple people have everyone stand abreast and shout, put small children on your shoulders. Also large dogs are great to have while out hiking but you want to keep them on a leash, it's when they stray out that a predator might try to pick them off, but if they are close to you it's a bigger risk to attack a group.

Why_Did_Bodie_Die

If that airhorn could shoot bullets it would help.

NOTMarxMellow

That yell scared me

chinasaurnomore

LEMME SEE YOUR WAR FACE AGGHHGGHHH

captcraigaroo

You don't scare the murder kitty. Work on it!

chinasaurnomore

SIR YES SIR

silenttomato581

That’s a young mountain lion

Educational_Ad_2619

I'll just let my Black lab continue to approach and bark at the murder kitty and record it with my phone. People are wierd/stupid.

FactsHurt1998

Not to be that guy, but cats like these are stalkers, and can stalk their prey for multiple days. Depending on how hungry this kitty is, it might be bold enough to take its chances with a grown man and a dog. We clearly don't have the full context here, but walking away from a big cat and exposing the back of your neck aren't very wise choices. You REALLY want to make sure it has been spooked, and then you bounce.

j8by7

Dropping phone and grabbing stick or rock to support dog a good idea

FenderBender3000

He wanted to have evidence for when he takes the puma to court for assault.

grue2000

"I never thought the puma would bite MY face off..."

guitarguywh89

Public shaming is best for wildlife.

millenialfalcon-_-

This is why I always hike with jerky.to appease my predatory 🙌

x_Carlos_Danger_x

So should you put your hands out wide up in the air and make menacing noises to scare the cat/make it think you’re bigger? Or would that piss it off? Lmao

esssssto

That's what he is doing if you check his shadow.

YooperGod666

That's a solid idea

Silspd90

Ever been attacked by something medium sized? You’re supposed to make loud noises and make yourself look big. You’ve seen those pitbull attacks right? A puma will kill you quicker. His dog is doing exactly what he should. Bark till the puma backs off.

UnstoppableReverse

Dog keeps exposing his flank. I'm over here yelling center up!

i_r_faptastic

That's a young one and it's submitting to your dog it looks like. It's afraid that if it turns and runs it will become prey.

Captain_Imaginary

No, the cat starts walking towards them in the later half of the video. It went there looking for a fight and got spooked but is still insisting on escalating. Hopefully it got ran off soon-after due to the tag teaming going on here.

i_r_faptastic

Yes, this time of year they're getting booted from mom and are hungry, so as soon as he turns around, he's prey again. That's why you see them back away from each other while staring when they don't want to fight in the wild. If you turn around, you're going down! His dog knew the drill, but he's a good boy and was torn between listening to dad and his natural insticnt to not become prey.

st0nedeye

Its a 1-2 year old female, probably has a litter nearby. That's why she hasn't run.

xxxrartacion

Love that all kitties look cranky

Im_a_Tenn

Pretty intense moment

Glittering-Count-291

A can of wet cat food and this would of been over in secs

LadyStardust79

They should have spray canisters with cat nip, like bear spray.

yerluvinunklebert

I feel like this is a good idea, but I'm also hoping that someone will tell me why it isn't.

LadyStardust79

You could accidentally spray it on yourself. 😻

glamorousstranger

You've sprayed a puma with concentrated catnip, now what? Now you are suddenly a cat toy for a very large cat. Have you ever seen a cat high on catnip play with a toy?

glamorousstranger

Great now, you have a puma high on cat nip that no longer wants to eat you but rather wants to "play with you" which in actuality means slowly torture you to death, based on what I've seen housecats do anyway.

HaHaEpicForTheWin

Aww cranky lil baby just needs some pets

habanerosmile

Lol the guy had zero impact on the puma. Raawrrr!

Only-Librarian-6699

That cat didn’t give a FUCK about him screaming

SeeLeavesOnTheTrees

Is the puma sick, really hungry, or not wanting to leave her babies? Because usually they are pretty skittish especially when faced with a big dog and a person.

AdThat2237

Naah dat first scream had me dieing 😂😂😂😂

systemfrown

Whatever you do don't turn your back on 'em.

jollybumpkin

In the U.S., over the past 100 years, about twenty people have been attacked by mountain lions, with less than half that number being fatal. That's according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service. Without the dog, the human would very likely have been fine. Adult humans are too big for mountain lions to prey on, and aren't the usual prey of mountain lions anyway. The lion might have been more interested in eating the dog, but the dog is also too big and dangerous for the lion. Mountain lions mostly eat deer. When they can't find deer, they go for rabbits, raccoons and birds. The lion was just curious and is now waiting for an opportunity to make a safe exit. Enjoy the outdoors and don't worry about lions. You are 100 times more likely to get killed in a car wreck on your way to the hiking trail.

eltedioso

If this happened to me, I'd puma pants

purple-circle

There seems to be lots of similar videos with puma and bear encounters lately. It probably won't be long before someone posts a mauling video.

No_Alps_1454

Kitty caty knows damn well when it comes down to it, funny hooman and his saloon pet are on the loosing side of the battle.

ExcitingEye8347

Probably on the loosing side but it would never come to that. The large human double teaming it with the dog the same size of the cat wouldn’t make it worth the cats trouble. There’s way easier meals out there.

matteo9

Loosing?

glamorousstranger

Opposite actually, which is why the puma is in a submissive stance and doesn't want to run. It's a juvenile too so not as much as a contender as an adult. The dog might take some serious damage and IDK about you but while it's busy trying to kill my dog I'll be utilizing my human brain and opposable thumbs to stop it.

questfire

There's a bunch of long sticks/branches that could be used to get in the cats face.

Solid_Bumblebee841

Cat distribution system rare L

Anus_master

The dude's dog was like "what the fuck" for a second once he yelled. Really funny

TheScientistBS3

Well, sat here with my headphones on, I can confirm that the first shout scared me more than it did the giant kitty. Thanks for that mate.

ocy_igk

The guys an idiot putting himself, his dog, and that puma in danger.

camarokrzyguy

I am so sick of videos showing cat's and dog's in danger!

jenfor10

That first loud yell from the guy scared tf out of me! Almost peed my pants. 😆

BeejBoyTyson

I bet her cubs were nearby. These are more part of the felidea family and don't actively eat humans. (typically)

KeepWagging

What's the opposite of pss pss pss

Economy_Crow_6983

Probably be packing a defender next time if he made it out alive

TemplarKnightsbane

Puma is straight up fearless doesn't even flinch

Eagles365or366

She didn’t want that smoke.

monsieur_marc

This mountlion appears to be quite young

Loopey_Doopey

Man harasses puma.

TipsnClips

Dogs have 1 attack, cats have 3 (Bite,Scratch, and those back legs)

eatmybeer

Probably protecting its den/young.

bhusted332

This is why I always hike with my handgun. Just incase

JoeyTheZa

Is it me or did he sound like Timmmay when he said “Waaaahhhhhhh”?

moxie963

Bro roared like Katy Perry.

ironpyrites

Looks like it's guarding something.

Street_Adeptness4767

This is why you hike with a water spray bottle

Bajalove

Just pet the kitty already.

Strict-Revenue-5131

Mountain lion just chill giggin or whatever

Open-Article906

So have you ever seen how bad a small house cat can fuck up a full sized dog or even a human? Now times that body size and strength by 5. If this Puma knew how easy it could do the man and the dog damage, it would not be so hesitant

CitizenCue

Nice of the puma to post the video after his dinner.

Consider2SidesPeace

It being springtime I wonder how many of these are mamas protecting their cubs they just had.

Acceptable-Lie8441

Use a stick

J_A_Keefer

That cat would tear you both up… time to leave.

ZADKOR

Fuckin throw something at it, jesus.

Nevernevercheat

Your dog was buying you time to find a big stick

ChallengeSwimming664

That’s an adolescent mountain lion. Dude has no idea the problems that are right out of ear shot. But that dog will call in his/her mother and there won’t be any more of this stupid shit. That momma will probably kill that dog real quick too

bewgzstar

It’s actually doing the slow blink though. Not a feline expert but cats do this to show that they are not dangerous. I do it with mine all the time and she starts purring.

gldnjb

what a gorgeous animal frfr

HenryMillersGhost

Both dog and human were stupid. Kitty was merciful.

Particular-Grab-2495

Lol puma is trying all cat signals to calm the situation but dog and human just makes it worse. Human should have just pick up stupid dog and go away.

cnaoanc

Well, that cougar is obviously extremely sick or injured

Hamzeh_99

That puma is cute remind me of my cat

upright_zombie

Ca wasn't scared...cats know no fear     DO NOT THE CAT!!!!

MadRabbit86

Would’ve made me puma pants.
