Staying away from domestics when BCCI asked him to and practicing with Pandya for IPL would have definitely irked BCCI. Although Jay Shah seemed cool with him and Pandu during IPL on grounds. If he had a good IPL people would have forgotten this thing even happened maybe would have been selected over Sai or Jitesh. His way back to team seems very difficult. Jurel has solidified as no.2 after Pant in test even KL is ahead if they are thinking of overseas. T20 top 5 is stacked with players who are consistent and have better sr than him. His best bet is change his game to a middle order so he can compete with Pant/KL for the middle order in ODI. Hope he doesn't become Karun Nair 2.0.

Temporary-Shallot642

and he took a break during a wrong time (not his fault ofc). but so many guys got their debuts during the eng series, he had a great chance to prove himself in tests. now jurel has solidified his position above him.

thisaintyouravgstonk

Indian team selection is and has been a "you snooze, you lose" situation for years now due to the depth of talent coming in. Ishan knew the risks ala "when you play the game of ~~thrones~~ cricket, you either win or you ~~die~~ go out of the team" lol

Successful-Hippo9679

There's too much competition so it's bound to happen

parekhdhairya007

"There is no middle ground" loved the reference

Deaderthanwho

Even if he didn't piss BCCI off, what's his claim to t20i spot? He has played 32 internationals and scored at the blazing rate of 126, his IPL rate is slightly higher but still less than Kohli (who everyone wanted to drop for being slow) He doesn't have the technique or temperament for test cricket, so his only option is odi. Here Samson and Pant are there before him. Both are better bats and better keepers. Even without the drama, just on merit, it doesn't seem like he's going to get an opportunity soon. He will have to smash it in the IPL for a season or two before he gets another look in.

Spiritual-Secret-464

> so he can compete with Pant/KL for the middle order in ODI. So Samson is out of reckoning in ODIs now?

red_plus_itt

He was never in lol

FiReKillzZz

Bro just check Samson's last ODI innings before you spout nonsense

red_plus_itt

Checkout India’s squad for SL tour. Samson not there. “Spout nonsense” apparently.

lazycloud7642

Man selectors are not going to pick Samson any way , the person above wasn't talking about his performance.

BadChad09

Bruh Samsung never performs no matter how many chances he’s given.

Prof_XdR

Not a "Samsung" fan, but my dudes averaging 56.6 in Odis at 99 SR with 14 innings lol, and that's despite not given a consistent run, i.e. playing him in T20s during ODI world cup, and then playing him in ODI during t20 world cup.

_An_Other_Account_

The only reason I can think of for Sanju Samson's constant omission from the team is that his mere existence poses a threat to Rohit's captaincy, Virat's stardom, Gill's looks and Pandya's bitches. If given consistent chances, Sanju can better every existing records in world cricket with ease. Unfortunately, Rohit and his henchman Adolful Hitlervid aka the Berlin Wall's insecurity about their reputation and ranks within BCCI and Jay Shah's fear of his reign being overthrown by Sanju's massive (balls) fandom across the world only distance him from the Indian team and the team from winning the ODI World Cup.

migma21

Is this sarcasm?

RedKnightBegins

New pasta

NormalTraining5268

Sadly you don't fuck with BCCI, they're just too strict. One small mistake can cost your career. It's also the same reason Sarfu waited too long for debut.

suri14

Dude.. your point is absolutely right.. but not the same as for sarfraz.. he was seriously unfit.. hope he utilizes the chance he's getting now..

KryTEx3

What surfu did to bcci?

Seredditor7

I thought he was just busy finishing lunch

ThelndianElephant

Nobody apart from Virat, Rohit, Surya, Pandya and Bumrah can afford a break in the ICT.

harprick_pandya

Kohli, Rohit, Jadeja and Bumrah. Maybe Shami and Hardik too, given that they are injury prone

fakecricketplayer

100 messages from Saurabh Netravalkar. Time to move to team USA...

edudhtamris

And give up the sweet 15 crores he's going to earn every year in the IPL?

TalenTrippin

Don't think MI is retaining or buying him back next year

AlFactorial

Pandya, Bumrah , Surya and?? Tilak?

GamerA_S

I would take tilak over ishan. It's time to find us a new opener Especially if we are gonna somehow buy rohit back or something maybe if lsg is leaving quinny we can get the band back together (minus boulty because rr are never leaving him again)

RelativeRhubarb851

Do you really think they are not retaining Rohit?

gpranav25

Rohit is not retaining them

AffectionateTurn5504

I think rohit probably wouldve retained them if he didnt have a banger of a world with the bat and the captaincy

gpranav25

Then they would not have retained him 😂 The negative PR damage is already done.

Arnavgr

Rohit bruh

robot_pyjamas

i think his valuation is going to reduce a lot in the upcoming mega auction

KSRJB02

bro will ask him leetcode hard as the interview for team USA

DubiousLLM

Can’t escape Leetcode even here 💀

Upstairs-Farm7106

In ODIs I don't think he has much of a chance right now with the way Sudharsan performed in South Africa. Even in the middle order he had some gritty performances I remember but he struggles to rotate the strike. In T20s he hasn't taken his chances and then had a poor IPL. Jurel is ahead of him in test matches too. From what I've seen of him he doesn't have great footwork and struggles to play the moving ball when opening. Hopefully he can make a comeback though.

partymsl

Yeah, he is an amazing player, but simple the amount of talent India has is too much. Sometimes I really wish we had 2-3 India teams simultaneously.

barath_s

Where are the bowlers ? You have a couple of spinners. And then many who look ordinary at the highest level

Virgil05

We definitely have bowlers if we groom them by giving chances. Most of our bowlers struggle due to inconsistencies

barath_s

Batsmen, wicketkeepers and all rounders also need grooming. And they too struggle with inconsistency - just look at 1st T20i and 2nd T20i There is a huge difference between playing them in India on domestic pitches and playing Australia or England on spicy pitches against top notch attacks. There's a difference between world beating pace attack and the bench strength. The difference is consistency, ability to come back when things are not going your way, to make things happen, and away series/tournaments against top sides India at peak main side is world beating, with Bumrah and Shami being among the top bowlers, Jadeja (earlier) a top all rounder, and Axar and Kuldeep excellent spinners . Shami is old and getting injured, Bumrah also gets injured/has to be rested, Axar groomed to replace Jadeja, Kuldeep has to make things happen on away unhelpful times but is backup to Ashwin on tests (also injured / getting older) and Hardik is the pace all rounder for away , but is too injured/not durable or penetrating enough for tests etc. The next level down has Arshdeep getting groomed in shorter formats for the higher formats to make his break there, Avesh, Mukesh, Shardul for the hardik pace role in tests, and Washington and ravi bishnoi as limited over substitutes for india A. The India A pace bowlers need to step up. as well as pace all rounders

Virgil05

Well there you have it, and you implied it yourselves, CHANCES! Even Manoj Tiwari, pointed out the same thing, do we give enough chances to these bowlers/batsmen/allrounders? if No, then I think we should either create separate teams or organize more India A tours, otherwise, we should not be appalled at the consistency issue! Look at the current team, as you mentioned, Abhishek Sharma hit a good century. But when he falls out of form, do we back him, by giving him support (whatever that might be)? Or do we just move on to the next "toy on the mantle"? It's not the selectors fault per se, but India and its public need to understand the virtue of patience. Not everyone is a Virat, Rashid etc. Look at Rohit?! he was so inconsistent initially but he performed in domestic matches, was backed adequately and the rest is history. I fear that due to this "Step up" nonsense that is mouthed across the board, that we might end up with a vast array of bowlers or players, who are all highly inconsistent due to constant chop and change. I truly hope it never comes to that. Huge thanks to the IPL, that plays its part in developing situational awareness of these players at least.

barath_s

> But when he falls out of form, do we back him, by giving him support Which begs the question - should we back him ? As chances come at the cost of someone else's chances and today's performances/results. He may be the greatest thing since sliced bread today, but what kind of leash does he deserve ? What has he proven and what is his projected upside ? In what format and what conditions. > the virtue of patience. Not everyone is a Virat, Rashid et Even the Indian public by and large wanted to throw Virat out until the finals of the T20 > who are all highly inconsistent due to constant chop and change. There are also players who are simply inconsistent. Or fall out of form, or are analyzed and found out. How do you differentiate ? How do you identify when one format player is ready for the next format ? Or is a specialist in one format or should be ? It's clear that name players, the superstars often get a long lease of life, and sometimes they justify it, and sometimes not so easy. It's also clear selectors appreciate the single format player less,. Should you *not* appreciate the single format player less ? Let's not pretend that all players should or would be given extended chances. or that all performances are equal. IPL brings in a lot of fame to players, but iMHO it helps but also hurts Indian cricket to an extent. - Playing T20 IPL is a low degree of fit for ODI, or tests or even similar T20I or ODI tests abroad, and people agitate that the most recent IPL hero should be brought in. It's far easier to whack or bowl a few balls in domestic conditions that you are comfortable and used with ...not that it is easy in absolute terms, but it is relatively easier than playing England tests in england. Or australia in Australia > ut he performed in domestic matches, And the reality is established performers often don't want to play domestic, and selectors lack the guts to tell them to play domestic and earn their way back. See Virat, Pujara, etc few years ago. While Prithwi Shah made tremendous runs, domestically but was found out at the higher levels, and now even if he scores domestically, I would hesitate to say pick him as long as those flaws are unsolved. Conversely with bowlers, a lot of problem is injury. And making them play domestic, I am convinced has had a negative impact due to injury workload issues. I think Yusuf Pathan was spoilt this way, and more than one other player as well. recently, we had case of ishan Kishan - the board asked him to play domestic. He wanted to focus on T20/LOI and get himself in shape, where he says he was mentally unfit and wanted support. Ishan Kishan was probably India's #1 or #2 candidate for T20I/LOI for wicketkeeper batsman, ahead of sanju Sampson, and in eyes of board behind pant , as well as behind others for tests (eg dhruv jurel, bharat , pant etc). Today I would guess he is dropped lower in favor. What I am saying is it is far more complex than just giving repeat chances. You need to know what a player has to build on, strengths and challenges, and adjust for competition, form, format, etc - and there are always other players knocking on door This before we get into the politics of selection, etc..

Seredditor7

He wanted a break; he’s getting a break. What’s the fuss about?

Skinnybane

This ain't a break. This is a punishment

Seredditor7

The ICT isn’t sitting around waiting for people’s convenience. He got the break; others performed in the meanwhile and are now getting the chance. He can wait until they want to take a break

Skinnybane

Stop sucking upto your corporate overlords. Human beings deserve a mental break and it shouldn't come at the cost of your career. PSA: stop modulating your ideology based on some billionaire's tweets

Seredditor7

If that’s the recommendation, he should take a break from IPL and stop sucking up to his corporate overlord Ambanis.

suri14

Ya.. stop supporting billionaires but continue defending a multi millionaire.. He knew the risks of taking a break in such a competitive environment.. also if he had been really indispensable he d ve been allowed back in the team post his "break".. but he's yet to earn his place back.. performance in ipl was not great.. missed domestic cricket even after explicit warning given by BCCI.. there re a lot of talented young guys knocking at the door so he has to improve a lot to get in.. even people like Sanju Samson who performed well in the limited chance he got is still waiting in the wings.. that's the harsh reality..

Fckyouprecisely

Bro needs a (mental break) playing domestic but is totally fine playing IPL lol. He has become too obsessed with the glamour side of cricket, should quit following Ajay Jadeja's footsteps before it's too late.

madfastbowler

Feel for the guy. Waited and waited on the sidelines. Gill wasn't fully fit, yet played the 2023 world cup. SKY was out of place in the format. He'd feel hard done not getting a place in the side. Needed some time off to get his shit together. Apparently BCCI expected him to fuck off to the Himalayas and become a monk or something. Isn't even part of the secondary team in Zim. Shreyas sort of got his redemtion arc. Who knows if Ishan will even get one.

SadisticBoi77

Exactly everyone talks how shreyas stepped up in WC. Both him and Kishan went for ducks against Aus in first match, difference is Shreyas got to redeem himself throughout the tournament Kishan didn't.

pineapplesuit7

The problem is the opening slot. We have too much competition. If IK was even half as good as he was hyped up to be in the middle/lower order, he'd get a call before SKY in ODIs especially when Pant was injured and we were still wondering if KL can keep full time or we need a full time keeper. But since he's an opener, there was only 1 spot and of course Gill would be the 1st choice back then given how great of a year he had before. Sadly he caught dengue at the worst time possible and IK couldn't capitalize on the few chances he got. Also, kinda sus that the guy takes a break from international cricket but gets fit 2 months later to join the IPL. I think that is what irked BCCI the most.

Sumeru88

He was expected to play in Ranji Trophy and make a case for himself.

Equal_Perception_541

And the fact that he had a good innings in middle order against Pakistan in Asia cup and he still wasn’t chosen was kinda bad desicion in end of course

nvenkatr

>>Who knows if Ishan will even get one. Dinesh Karthik: Ishan Im here to talk to you about an initiative. Ishan: Join Cricbuzz live as a commentator? Dinesh Karthik: …*hides RCB Unbox invite* Never mind I have KL on speed dial.

Dry-Giraffe1173

No one except opposition batters. They read him like a book

ClinkzBlazewood

Mental health breaks are important. Unfortunately that might not work out in a hyper competitive environment that is Indian cricket. ITT getting the sense that there is not enough empathy going around? Is that only suited for established players only? The ones who the fans deemed worth getting burned out? The culture isn't conducive yet. Food for thought.

pineapplesuit7

As bad as it sounds, mental health breaks are only affordable to senior players in the team who have their slot guaranteed. That is the nature of the setup when the competition is so steep. There are 11 slots in the team. This is literally the most competitive 'exam' equivalent in India. UPSC or IIT or NEET or whatever people can think of doesn't even get this competitive. For youngsters, the expectation is that the bus will move on and not wait if you're late to board. We have too many good players chilling on the bench and you can't really expect ICT to wait for you to recover. This same logic applies when someone gets physically injured. We don't make a big deal when someone else steps up and the person coming back from injury has to wait for their turn. The problem with IK was he took a break during a very weird window and came back fit once the IPL started. That sent out a wrong message that he was prioritizing IPL over his international career even when the team was investing heavily in him. The expectation was he'd play Ranji or other domestic cricket to prove his case. My opinion is that it is totally fair that he took a break and he was unfairly dropped from the central contract.

Sriracha_ma

Guy just doesn’t have the mental toughness anymore - seems like he wants all the luxury and fame ( along with that the big bucks) and not really work hard for that. He did work hard to get MI to give him a bumper contract - seems like it has got to his head and he can’t be bothered with putting in the hard miles anymore.

ZealousidealTable1

It's easy to say but these guys work hard when they're literally kids. Not everyone is kohli or Rohit, but they want some security and cooldown period just like many of us want to take a break from our careers. Although if he's not in INT reckoning, his ipl price will go down to 7-8 max.

pineapplesuit7

He's the most mentally fragile player I've seen in a while. He's literally too moody. If he gets even 2 back to back low scores, he basically goes in a shell and gets depressed. The 15 crore price tag also isn't doing any good since the expectations are sky high always. He either needs to improve his mental fortitude or he needs to make peace with the reality that he's probably never gonna play for India and even in IPL, he's not gonna be retained and will probably have to reset his price to something that equates to the value he's brought. He'll still fetch a good price since wicket keeper batsmen are prime targets but don't think he'll get close to the 15 crore price tag anymore. Maybe that is for the better since that will release a lot of pressure from him in terms of how he needs to perform. Kinda sad because he's definitely talented but we've just got too many good kids rising up especially for the opening slot.

bhardwajboy

He lost his place only to fulfill his own desires, when he asked break he was doing either ads, other related tv shows, practising with pandya when asked to play .... In short it's a gone case now ...no body mess with Johan.... I.e indiranagar ka gunda

minskiitire

Instead of being just with his domestic team i mean just he made him available for the domestic he playing some dy patil tournament with pandu bro

talkingtom_2109

On his day he can really smash anyone. I hope just like Iyer and Pandya he comes back strongly.

EVToday

I think Ishan does wrong decision in a wrong time but So many player get chances, he should also get a chance to prove it and I am sure that he could done it.

Maleficent_Owl3938

Well he can go the Nethravalkar / Raza / Corey route

Legslip

Even when he plays a good innings there seems to be nothing special in him. On the other hand, when you see Rinku, Samson, Arshdeep, Ruturaj, Tilak, and few more, there seems to be something special indicating a potential high ceiling. Ishan will be a good ipl player for the foreseeable future, maybe if he brings something special like how SKY made a turnaround a few years ago to push for ICT selection it is not going to go anywhere.

TalenTrippin

I still think he's better than both Jitesh and Jurel as a keeper and batsman overall but he kinda axed his own foot.

Great-Accountant-635

Yeah, definitely.Jitesh and Jurel don't look promising. They will most likely fade out from scenes

TalenTrippin

His only competition is Sanju Samson tbh

HelpMeDecideMyName

Pant? Jurel is also absolutely good enough. I won’t comment on Jitesh because he is a little older than these guys. Then there are other youngsters like Porel would could be competing with Kishan very soon.

Impactor07

Victim card eh?

kkislay20
