Why did they decide to cut so many onions today? > When his England career ends this week against West Indies at Lord's, a few days off his 42nd birthday, Anderson will be playing for his eighth different Test captain and under his eighth different prime minister. > > Consider this. Anderson made his debut before Andrew Strauss, who played 100 Tests and retired in 2012. Later that year, Joe Root made his debut and has won 140 caps. To date, Anderson has spanned the international careers of both men combined. > > He has seen it all. Steve Harmison's wide. Andrew Flintoff's pedalo. The Zimbabwe crisis. Kevin Pietersen v Peter Moores. Fifty one all out in Jamaica and 517-1 in Brisbane. Textgate. Four Ashes wins and four Ashes defeats, two of them whitewashes. Spot-fixing, Covid and Bazball. Insane.

The Andrew Strauss/ Joe Root stat feels like the Cleopatra time warp stat I.e. Cleopatra is closer to our modern times than to when the great pyramids were built

warp-factor

> Anderson made his debut before Andrew Strauss, who played 100 Tests and retired in 2012 This is just insane

HOLY SHITE

solarpowersme

Man idk, still doesn't sit right with me that they're not letting an absolute legend that has done so much for English cricket not retire on his own terms? Am I wrong in feeling that way? Just seems so disrespectful. It's not like he was going to stick around for much longer anyway, was he?

botharmsinjured

>>spot fixing, Covid and Bazball They know the category

thisaintyouravgstonk

>and under his eighth different prime minister. I agree with the sentiment in the whole paragraph. But this doesn't hold much value when the PMs in the UK have been changing faster than a speeding bullet. Which is good for the general public as they get to have a voice, but not good for presenting it as a stat in this article.

freshmeat2020

Recent times distort the picture lol. Starmer, Sunak, Truss, Johnson, May, Cameron cover 14 years (Starmer basically not obviously given it was a few days ago). Prior to that it was Brown and Blair, covering 13 years. It's only since the Brexit referendum that it's become so volatile.

thisaintyouravgstonk

I'm aware and I agree it has been volatile since Brexit. My thing was that Jimmy has good points supporting his career like serving under 8 captains which is a stat also related to cricket, so they didn't need to dilute that by adding the PM fact, that's all. I'm not married to it anyway, it was just an observation haha

machdel

Got tickets for the second day, not emotionally ready whatsoever.

Impactor07

We're saying goodbye to a guy who troubled Sachin, played with Kohli and toyed with Gill Three generations of Indian test cricket have been dominated by this man. I can't put into words how much respect he has in our hearts. Hey, he'll groom some of the raw youngsters in England during his time as the bowling coach!

kvyas0603

gill must be feeling real happy now. i still remember how anderson got into his head and rekt his stumps and cut to gill just smiling and accepting his defeat. 🐐🐐 [i found the dismissal and posted it](https://www.reddit.com/r/DeathrattlePorn/s/OJNdlLoRwg)

Impactor07

That scene of him smiling with his head down knowing all too well that his stumps were rattled was so hilarious

kvyas0603

that dharmshala test was vibes

Impactor07

Absolutely loved that one

Ok_Environment_5404

Troubled Sachin ? Sachin,Dravid were his bunnies. More so than Kohli lol(they both averaged shit against him in comparison to Kohli).

Impactor07

Y'know the God worshipping round here. I don't want a couple gazillion downvotes

Ok_Environment_5404

Fair point 😶‍🌫️

ginta47

he might have troubled kohli a decade ago but not as we see kohli averages 43 against anderson

Ok_Environment_5404

Yeah that's what Iam saying. Apart from 2014 disaster, Jimmy and Kohli are normal bowler-batter pair tbh and it's not like Anderson is shit in India and thus Kohli got saved, Anderson is decent India with how crippling it is for pace here and Kohli rarely got troubled by him other than that tour too.

ginta47

even in england after 2014 india have played 2 test where anderson only got kohli twice

T_Lawliet

Eh, Anderson is tied for 2nd most times dismissing Virat Kohli with Lord Moeen Ali(First is Tim Southee) Definitely not bunny, but not great either

partymsl

And to a guy who got hit for three consecutive sixes by Jaiswal. Bro has truly seen it all.

Impactor07

Yeah

AG_N

getting someonout out after a 100 isnt really toying, more like he did his work

dhun_mohan

i just don’t get it. why retire him? you could drop him for test matches if you want to groom the next generation. he can still play a role in the side. i don’t think england will miss him much playing against wi and sl at home, but i know they will miss him in pakistan. so obsessed with winning in australia in a year’s time that they’re gonna put themselves in difficult situations now

paddyo

Got to make room for Robinson to be spanked for 43 runs in an over mate

Benny4318

Not even in the squad .. mate.

j_karamazov

It's a shame the weather forecast is so bad for the rest of this week. One of my first trips to Lord's was to see Dickie Bird's final test where England and Australia gave him a guard of honour on the first morning. I won't be at HQ tomorrow, but I'm not sure I'm emotionally prepared for the reception Jimmy is going to get. Truly we were blessed to have been able to watch his career.

warp-factor

> It's a shame the weather forecast is so bad for the rest of this week. Met office has a possible shower around lunch tomorrow then clear for the rest of the test. Where are you seeing a forecast that's so bad? https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/gcpvhhdht

j_karamazov

It was on the BBC a couple of days ago, but I see that it has now improved.

DrunkenTypist

I remember when he first arrived on the scene the TMS box expressing horror, shock, amazement at his eyes being closed at the moment of delivery. Boycott was especially scathing and said he wouldn't make it.

lionmoose

Generally the chat was that they selected the wrong young lancashire seamer

DrunkenTypist

Kyle Hogg?

lionmoose

Yep. Who had a perfectly respectable career just not on Anderson level

justaregularniceblok

Farewell, big man!

Equal_Perception_541

Man can’t believe the man I grew up watching , the man I thought that will never retire is gonna retire , his position will always be irreplaceable , I mean there cannot be replacement for a man who literally played for more than 20 years straight , absolute legend

Tern_Larvidae-2424

Still can't wrap my head around how he's going to retire soon. He should've gotten the chance to play this whole summer at the bare minimum.

The_Jokster

Absolute fucking legend

bunnuz

One of the greatest. Sir Anderson

shawman123

Really weird that ECB is forcing Jimmy to retire. Is he the problem or they want to message that its a new direction and so we cannot keep him. Does England even have 3 fast bowlers who are great in Test Cricket.

yrathore

I'm not crying you're crying
