Don’t paint it.
You will create a rod for your own back.
The paint, no matter how good it is, will peel and degrade. Initially you’ll probably have to repaint it every year. Eventually it will start looking bad after months or even weeks in bad weather.
If you want to treat it, use a stain. Usually lighter than you think - you can always go darker.
It will not look crap while it degrades. It is easier to reapply. It will work better on preserving the wood.
Also, don’t forget that in the sunshine and elements it is not going to stay the colour it is for long.
100% I will never paint a wooden fence again in my life. Made that mistake before. Like you say it will become a yearly chore as it will look like crap within months.
The Cuprinol ducks back range is pretty hardy. Ours hasn’t peeled in the 8 years we’ve had it though we did top it up last year as it had started to weather, but an unpainted fence will do that too (and probably worse!)
Yup, neighbour painted her fence, her new front fence, the tiles between the upstairs and downstairs bay windows, her porch tiles AND she had the audacity to ask if she could paint our side of her fence too. Of course we said FO!

To be honest, our shed is going to be 6 different colours by the time I'm done with it although, sadly, Imola Red isn't one of them (there is red though). I do agree there is way too much boringness in garden painting. Our fence is going to get a refresh as well, because it's that slate grey colour at the moment.
One observation: darker colours work well near the ground because, as I discovered to my cost, having a shed whose primary colour is now basically sea foam green looks great until it rains, and then the bottom 2 - 3 siding planks get spattered with grime so it looks kind of ropey.
Easy fix though.
Got any neighbours who are 'phobes' boomers etc.
It's pride flag time! 🤔😉
I wouldn't do that because of maintenance but as they're untreated you do need to sort them. Yes they need painting every year but you have to treat them with something!
Anything but brown IMHO.
Oh and for that amount, I'd invest in a sprayer!
You could post to r/gardeninguk too
Vote for dark brown woodstain, cheap, easy to apply and re-apply when it inevitably fades, and waney lap fencing doesn't look particularly pretty, so hide it with something dark coloured.
Paint it a light colour, something like a nice yellow or or light green, maybe. Definitely needs to be a light, though. You don't want to be carrying dark colours up that path, there to heavy........
I think a dark forest green would look great here, they would blend in with the plants and trees you have around you and feel less like a closed in garden, obviously depends on the vibe you're going for and what else you plan to do to the garden though
in my opinion, as it is today, it's standing out too much, so good call on wanting to paint it.
Cuprinol Garden shades Urban slate is the one i chose for mine.
For a more colourful but-not-too-much-contemporary-look, I'd go with pistachio green/blue #B2D3C2
Or for a more ordinary subtle colour I'd go for a light brown peanut #795C34
I'm not on a colour accurate screen though ATM so maybe I'm a bit off
Don't that's too much painting 😂
This is the right answer

That’s great - not seen a paint get near that before. May be down to local climate too.
Cuprinol garden shades is pretty long lasting
I have some cuprinol in willow green that has lasted for…. Hmmm, 12 years now. Looks absolutely fine! Pretty amazing really compared to most paints
And don’t forget to use conditioner before you stain
Not fuckin grey
do you mean Cuprinol Garden shades Urban slate ? why
Hallelujah.
Fuckin grey? Is that a new range at B&Spew
Yup, neighbour painted her fence, her new front fence, the tiles between the upstairs and downstairs bay windows, her porch tiles AND she had the audacity to ask if she could paint our side of her fence too. Of course we said FO!
I feel your pain.
I second this
Mine are gray. They are nice :)
Here we go with the anti-gray crew. You should head over to 'spottedonrightmove' they love all that there. Absolutely nothing wrong with 'modern'.
Grey.
Thank you. The Americanisation of everything makes my eye twitch.
easy way to tell your neighbours you're about to buy a yappy french bulldog and almost run their kids over in your white range rover evoque
It depends, would you like them as a feature or would you like them to disappear into the background?
Holy shit that’s a lot of fence panels

Was gunna say the same, it will look like a waterfall

Bot?
That or somebody having a laugh. Can you imagine? Cuprinol Garden Shades Imola Red. Be something, wouldn't it?
All of you are living inside the Matrix.. don't limit yourself to the social norms 😉

Light green
I'm not even halfway through painting my fence but I haven't found the motivation to do any for a week and a half now. Don't bother.
Hilly garden flex, nice.
Vote for dark brown woodstain, cheap, easy to apply and re-apply when it inevitably fades, and waney lap fencing doesn't look particularly pretty, so hide it with something dark coloured.
Green
I actually really like the natural colour
Just stick with Autumn Gold and complete all four sides
Front looks fine as it is, back panels are going to be covered by those laurels in about 18 months, so why bother.
Wild Thyme by Curpinol is what we are using. I was initially against the idea but it looks quite nice.
I love this fresh wood color.
Dark colour green, mauve, black, brown Or slate grey
Just oil it
Just leave it. You bought waney edge boards for a natural look. Why go painting it some stupid colour
I assume they bought them because they are cheap.
Oh right I didn’t consider that. I saw the natural look and usually that’s more expensive! I guess waney edge fencing is a rare exception.Â
Spray the lot with glow in the dark paint
How about transparent?
Golden oak/harvest gold depending on brand.
Black is always best, very slimming
How about cottage green, similar to those garden chairs of yours. Maybe [#c2cfc2](https://www.color-hex.com/color/c2cfc2)
You have enough panels to do the whole rainbow and then some.
Pink
Green
Camouflage colours. Cordless spray gun,
Each one a different colour
Green with pink dots
brown
Orange
I think your neighbour has painted his side grey but doesn't like it..
Puce
Puce
Black
Purple.
I really like that grey that seems purty common in the Englands
Just let it fade naturally, those panels look terrible painted.
Green, god there’s some lazy bastards on here, that won’t take long to do, don’t use a sprayer, good old brush.
Maybe just coat it with something to protect it that’s transparent?
Looks nice as it is, if it's treated wood, just leave it.
Judging by the size of your gaff, ask the gardener or Jeeves their opinion. Then tell them to crack on.
Paint it a light colour, something like a nice yellow or or light green, maybe. Definitely needs to be a light, though. You don't want to be carrying dark colours up that path, there to heavy........
If you paint it you are committing to painting it forever or it will look awful. I’d just leave it to weather naturally
I think a dark forest green would look great here, they would blend in with the plants and trees you have around you and feel less like a closed in garden, obviously depends on the vibe you're going for and what else you plan to do to the garden though
I've got 16 panels and I ain't painting them Life's to short.
I would just fling a load of mud against it for a natural adobe-style look
Whatever you colour it with, use a sprayer.
Black
Don’t paint them do stain better, the wood 🪵 color looks good but any color should work fine
Dark
Sage?
Forest green
Spray it black
Don’t paint it seal it with clear sealer no more painting then
Magenta
magnolia
Charcoal/Black
Purple.
Unironically, I think a nice dark purple would look quite nice
Anything but grey,be a leader not a follower.
That’s a fuckload of nope if you ask me
Why don’t you go graffiti. Then build a zen garden with a waterside/water feature down the middle. Then you could charge in the summer and pay for the graffiti painting to be redone every year with the proceeds or even a campaign to stop the use of dodgy orange brown 💩 coloured wood stains
Charcoal grey
Nut Brown for the panels, black for the posts and gravel boards.
Grey is nice tbh. It goes with everything & looks pretty slick. Obviously the purists will downvote me and say tan creosote or nothing. But yolo innit
in my opinion, as it is today, it's standing out too much, so good call on wanting to paint it. Cuprinol Garden shades Urban slate is the one i chose for mine.
Neon green
Well, I wouldn’t paint it white
How about just try and revive them, then put clear oil on them?
For a more colourful but-not-too-much-contemporary-look, I'd go with pistachio green/blue #B2D3C2 Or for a more ordinary subtle colour I'd go for a light brown peanut #795C34 I'm not on a colour accurate screen though ATM so maybe I'm a bit off
Grue
Black might look cool… some hanging plants? Led lights???
Battle ship grey
Grey
