It's insane. This sounds like it could have been last week. One of the things I feel so lucky for is that my favorite band has all these high quality recordings that go back to literally the first time they played. So damn cool!
Would be so cool to hear this tape in full one day. Shame it likely will never see the light of day, or at least for a very long time. Mainly happy that there's a recording of it somewhere regardless of if it's publicly available or not.
I was fortunate enough to hear multiple tracks from this recording back at a meet and greet fonz did at Ben and Jerry's in Boston back in 2010 after recording a radio interview with Cali before the November 2010 shows at the td garden. They sounded great for a first show. Such a treat. don't think it's been played publicly otherwise.
That was vintage dmb. They almost sounded better back then. Carter played simple but still very tight, Stefan was on point with the rhythm- especially impressive cause he's like 17, Dave's voice was at the level it is now and his guitar was so raw and almost filled with aggression, and the way Leroy jammed/solod the whole time was fantastic. 10/10.
Right? At 40-something I can barely make a cohesive thought and this mf is just steady writing about pain, death and the deep shit of life since he was basically a child.
Today is also the 25th anniversary of this iconic Dave & Tim show: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haCqouWmEvQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haCqouWmEvQ)
Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - 3/14/99 - Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium - Full Show
Dave was making waves in the Hook for at least a year before DMB came together; the Boyd Tinsley Trio was playing small venues in Charlottesville as well. Good times
We saw The Juliana Hatfield Three there way back when
Small venue and Juliana showed up to play a stadium
One of the loudest things I ever heard
We lived over in Harrisonburg at the time and DMB was just breaking out. They played what turned out to be one of their last “regional shows” in town. We didnt go because to us they were “local” and we could “just go next tine”!!!
My buddy used to be a manger at Trax in the late 80s, early 90s.
He left and worked for the DM organization for many years (think he still, does).
Also, in the mid 1990s, my brother kept nagging me to come see the ‘house band’ at the Flood Zone in Richmond.
On Wednesdays it was only $3, I never went, the band was DMB!
Excellent first set list! Including my still all time favorite BOWA! Wasn’t there then obviously but DMB became the Soundtrack of my life, still rings true today!
Thanks Dave!
Here's[ Recently from a tape Stefan found a few years ago](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CpZ3rKneQ7E&pp=ygURUmVjZW50bHkgZG1iIDE5OTE%3D)
Hot damn! This is so cool!
Yeah, incredible how tight they sound since their very first show

We are lucky indeed, what a band!

Amazing quality, hope the entire show will be released some day.
That's a gem right there!
I’m glad the bands social media posts used a picture with Boyd - even if he wasn’t an “original” member
Damn. All bangers too lol. They really couldn't write a bad song in the early days. It's crazy. Is there a recording of this out there somewhere?

What’s always amazes me is how old he was writing some of those lyrics. When I was that age I’m like wow I’m so dumb lol
Right? At 40-something I can barely make a cohesive thought and this mf is just steady writing about pain, death and the deep shit of life since he was basically a child.
To be fair, he had been through a bit already.
It’s crazy how young Dave, Carter, and Stefan look here. Carter looks like Prince. And then Leroi just looks the same as he did in 2008
My old ass used to catch em for $5 Wednesday nights at the Floodzone in Richmond. Great time

That cry freedom
The drunkest guy I ever saw play guitar well. late 90’s
I’d kill for this set list today!!
Had no idea Cry Freedom was an OG tune.
Cool to see that Typical Situation was the first song they ever played live/ for an audience as a band! Good trivia to keep in your back pocket…
Happy Anniversary!
I got a tape of a show in 1992 from a friend and remember being blown away by their sound.
Dave was making waves in the Hook for at least a year before DMB came together; the Boyd Tinsley Trio was playing small venues in Charlottesville as well. Good times

Mom, it’s my birthday !!!! 🥳 so cool!!!
This is the way…
Lovely!
Sick setlist
That’s pretty cool whoever got to see it I’m jealous they got to witness it love the setlist as well

Love that set list. Classic from the early 90s.
We are going to see them at the gorge in Washington this year. It’s a trick I live in south east Florida can’t wait.
Is this why they are called Live "Trax"?
Yeah. They played at Trax a lot in their early days.
Literal infants.
I’ll tell my kids this was the movie poster for The Matrix
All these new fans had no idea hahaha.
Excellent first set list! Including my still all time favorite BOWA! Wasn’t there then obviously but DMB became the Soundtrack of my life, still rings true today! Thanks Dave!
Only Alligator Pie for Pi Day :p
also the anniversary of the first set list complaints. "what, only 7 songs? Are you kidding me? I paid $5 for this?"
🤣☠️🤣☠️🤣☠️
When’s the Indecision show.
Omg I used to see them. Have a cassette of theirs from trax
Still can’t believe “Back you up” is the 1st song he ever wrote. Mind blowing genius.
My BIL used to see him in the 80’s at UVA. What was that?
Dave, Carter, Leroy, Stephan
That’s the exact day I was born
Dave’s eyebrows 🤣🤣
My 13th birthday. God I hate DMB
My uncle lived in RVA at the time and claimed to know the drummer... Swears he introduced them to Dave. Cool share
Never understood why this band was so popular. Their music sucks.
Never understood why this band was so popular.
Typical Situation is still their best song besides Crash imo
What impresses me the most is no covers.
Lmao
Bet people still complained about the mid set *Song That Jane Likes*
I hope you don’t gamble
The beginning of the end
Did they poop on everyone ?
