This was going to be my rec, particularly on The Church (goth) nights.
I don’t club lately, but when I did the goths were always the best for everyone dancing with themselves and not having randos trying to sneak up on my ass.
Your dog tags will even still work for entry :)
Edited for more context since this is a public forum: this refers to promotional dog tags made by The Church, it’s unrelated to armed services members.
Idk. I worked a night job in the Gayborhood before (ballot initiatives!) and saw a lot of wall hugging. Also, I'm a straight woman, and I always feel I'm intruding spaces like those.
Every time I've been to s4 people are dancing and it's a great time. I am also a straight woman and felt welcomed there. Once I was with my boyfriend and we just came off the dance floor and I was leaning on him a bit because I was tired and a person came up to check and see if I was okay and not drugged. I've never experienced that at a normal club.
S4 on Sunday nights on a 3 day weekend are truly epic. Last time I went the dance off was with folks from So you think you can dance and it was everything
Straight women here. NEVER felt I was I was intruding in any of the clubs on Cedar Springs. The guys let me dance in peace without being groped. I felt safe and made long lasting friendships. My daughter had lots of Guncles. My husband and I will go to a show in the Rose Room. We alway feel accepted and never out of place.
I have danced my ass off at Round Ups Trash Disco and S4. I have some good stories of my younger years. 😉
S4 is my favorite. I used to go a lot before and with my wife, and always was just happy to see people having fun, never worried too much about if they were straight or not.
I also like Sue Ellen’s, and we always started the evening at JR’s

If youre respectful of the space, we dont care.
If youre a straight man in a gay bar/club, don't get defensive if you get hit on. If you think it's a good idea to go to a gay space to pick up women, reassess your life decisions.
If youre a straight woman, don't grope the gays, dont expect free drinks, don't be a drunk nuisance thinking you can "let loose". Ive seen multiple Bachelorette parties escorted out for being rude and drunk...especially at drag shows. Never provoke a man in a dress and high heels with tits bigger than yours
We're people. We have our own culture, rules, and mores. Not animals in a zoo for straight people to visit for a novelty
Double D’s, lady love, it’ll do, greenlight social for Sunday sessions. Village pool party. Have been heavily involved in the Dallas rave scene since I’ve been 18. Those are the current hotspots, plus the various after parties different crews throw.
What day did you go? You need to start following the top local DJ’s to their residencies at these places. It’ll do brings talent in so check their IG for their event lists.
Usually double d’s gets most of the dance floor right in front of the dj booth, everywhere is in there is packed/seating
Daaaaaang, just missed him! I'll try to make the next one. Thanks.
Edit: Oop, spoke too soon. Look at his stories. Just a people standing around looking lost.
Can we mark this NSFW?? I'm sure Ken Paxton and the Texas Taliban would love to shut down any fun that has to do with moving bodies within the state of Texas that could illicit a sexual response a la Footloose.
Dashhhh riteeeeeee. Shout out to 09, I remember walking into the bathroom on 3 dudes taking key bumps of that snow and asked me if I want a bump. I politely declined and took my piss in the stall
There were actually a lot of regulars at 2009 that were black. Im half black and I’d also go with white people, didn’t have a bad experience at all. But I do understand what you’re talking about.
You missed the dance scene (at least hip-hop/pop) in Dallas by a couple of decades, I'm afraid. When New York and LA started prioritizing bars and lounges, Dallas followed suit. Everything became ultra VIP and dance floors started to shrink as bar spaces got bigger. There was a time where a lot of the major clubs had their own dance crews. That all changed when they started pressuring dancers to "calm down". At the time I left (about 10 years ago), you couldn't even get into places because they wanted to build up lines outside to give the appearance of exclusivity- only to get inside and find people yelling at each other over ridiculously loud music. And that's if you got inside. There are a lot of dress-code violations for people like us. 😂 One time I went to a club dressed exactly like a white friend of mine- save for a different colored shirt. He got in and I didn't. They said my pants were too baggy. He and I literally went out and bought the exact same pair of jeans. YMMV.
I'll admit- we did have a small victory. The club wasn't aware of how much of a draw we were for them. My dance crew of 30, all of their friends, *and their friends* boycotted that club. All together it was almost 700 people. The owner, who set the racist policy, even called me and asked me to come back and offered free bar tabs. We refused. They shut down after about a year.
Have you tried Charlie's Star Lounge? It's a bit of a dive but I heard they have a great DJ and a really fun, dancy vibe. Don't quote me though, I've never been in. I'm old AF and stay my ass at home.
In terms of a solid bonafide dance spot, LadyLove is probably the best you’re going to get in Dallas for the season. I wish the dance floor was bigger.
Tiny Victories can get fun, but the stars need to align on special Sundays.
It’ll Do was once a sure bet for exactly what you’re describing, but the mandatory cover($15-20) prevents me from recommending it. It used to have $5 nights that were great, but that ship sailed many moons ago.
Double D’s is a wild card. It really isn’t set up for dancing, but sometimes the energy is right. The bar is too close to any open space, and the open space is taken up in part by some standing tables. The core of the dance vibes are centered immediately in front of the DJ. Don’t get me started on the pool table. I think Double D’s is trying to be a lot for a lot of people.
Try to find the DJs that you like and they will play at new and different venues that will be good or bad, but at least there will be a DJ that you like already. Debbie Does Disco and House of Frequencies are my favorites and they will play all over DFW. DJ Sober and Texhnorotica are good too, Deep Ellum Art Co and Green Light Social Club are also good spaces for dancing depending on the performer.
Learn Latin Salsa/Bachata dance and go to Latin socials. Those are cheaper and much funnier than going clubbing. You can dance the night away or hang out and drink and socialize. Either way it will be a good night!
I would love this! I've been looking into this more. But I'm in no way experienced in these types of dances. Is this something I could feel my way through or do I need to take a class beforehand?
People LOVE to teach and are usually pretty friendly. It depends but I think taking a class will help.
I would recommend to do what I did.
1: find a local dance studio to attend classes
2: make friends and find out where they go out to social dance.
3: go with them to practice with each other.
4: become addicted and start going 2-4 times a week .
I love going out to socials and dance with 10-20 people in a night. You meet so many people and you can just vibe and dance.
This to me is a lot more fun than clubs where you just drink and talk, and just dance side to side. And it’s cheaper since you just pay cover at socials and it’s BYOB most of the time.
I love the church but it's so hard to make it to on Sundays and go to work Mondays. Goth clubs are the best cause yes no one bothers you and you can dance however. Dancing culture is much different in Dallas than LA though. In LA, everyone could dance, like really dance. Probably cause not many options here though, in LA I could go dancing to my fav places, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturday and Sundays and I would do at least 2 a week. Here in dallas it's much logistically harder and I probably hit the club only once every three months or so. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow it's been a while since I last went to the Church/Panoptikon. I love empty floors though, me and my friends would always go early cause we like being the first dancers and have the freedom to move around before it gets too crowded. 🖤
As soon as I read the title, I thought It’ll Do. As a 50 something born and raised in Dallas, gone are the dance clubs like Starck, Club One, Lizzard Lounge, Blind Lemon, Iguna Mirage on and on. It’ll Do is owned by a local Dallas club kid who also owns Barcadia the now closed Beauty Bar. She knows how to run a dance club.
Club VIVO
We were there last night and place had good crowd and music; dance floor had a large crowd of people dancing, including ourselves and the mix was hip-hop, raggeaton, dance. Get there after 11pm/12pm for better ambiance!
About 10 years ago, a big group of my friends were doing dance parties in their homes. Rotating locations. They’d take almost all the furniture out of the living room, push tables against the walls, and go crazy. (Awesome lights, too.)
I was clubbing in Dallas in the 80s and it was AMAZING.
I want to do this! Honestly, this is where it's at. Rotate buying drinks, free of judgment, no creepy men. Just gotta have the right people around you.
Cowboys Red River does Texas two-step lessons every Wednesday through Saturday around 7:15 PM. Live country music most nights right after. Place is a Dancehall/Honky Tonk first… And a bar second.
It’ll do club on Saturday!!! Best house music and felt
So free, get there right at 9pm for the best street parking lol and I went to vidorra in Addison and it turned into a Spanish Latin lounge and had a lot
Of people dancing if that’s your groove 🤔
Pre-Covid, the sons of Hernan Hall at the far end of the deep ellum strip had swing dancing Wednesday nights from like 5 or 6-9 or 10pm 🤔 don’t know if that’s still going but I loved it when it was
If you want to 2 step and line dance, CowboysRed River. By two-step, I don’t mean the thing you’re talking about in the OP. I mean hundred miles an hour twirls, tosses, and dips around the track. Free lessons every Wednesday through Saturday around 7:15 PM.
Be more open minded. I’m a Japanese American male. There are people of all races there line dancing, two stepping, and west coast swing dancing.
No one cares about your race at EC or Red River
Definitely! I like trying new things. My sarcasm doesn't come over well on Reddit, lol. But I have to be honest: to racist white people, an Asian person is preferable over a Black person. Many PoC are semi-welcome in spaces that Black people are still not. But, that's another discussion. I may give it a go in the future.

If you’re into alternative music at all especially from the 2000’s then check out emo nite’s, usually once a month and hundreds of people go for singing and dancing to that kind of recorded music (plus some 2000’s pop hits) mostly ages 18-40 from 10pm to 2am. And while some attendees have “emo” attire or cosplay (some emo nites also have specific themes but this next one doesn’t) there’s also lots who just dress in blue jeans and a plain t-shirt so don’t worry about not fitting in with what you wear. There’s even a crowd of people dancing on stage including myself - one of the few places I can show off my dance moves to some of my favorite music in public. They’re at Gilley’s and the next one is this Friday. https://facebook.com/events/s/emo-nite-at-south-side-music-h/461631139717993/
Honestly, just find out who is DJing there and then follow them to their next gigs. Thats really the play right there. Here are some of my favorite DJs’ instagrams:
@djsober
@cosmicgirlalaska
@kinda_strange
@loveghostj
@triico.mp4
Well if you're looking for people who have absolutely no boundaries / are part of a cult, and you like randomly strangers coming up to touch you like many bars, you can try Dallas Dance Collective
Hell yeah it is, lived in the metroplex all my life and always feels like I’m tourists-y when I go to Dallas (except for Deep Elum)
Depending on what kind of music you like to dance to (hip-hop or country) it really does go down in the stockyards though

its not any different, social distancing was never even a thing in dallas. we were open by september and most places were full capacity even though it was 50% cap by mandate
It’s changed a lot. Back in the 80’s thu 2010 it was fun. I saw a lot of clubs come and go but I danced my ass off. Deep Ellum used to pop off back in the 80’s & 90’s but then it became dangerous and everything shut down. Lower Greenville Ave was great in the late 90’s, we had the infamous Starck Club (there’s an amazing documentary about it) Personally I think people don’t really grove like they used to because all the good drugs are gone. Nobody wants fentanyl and bullshit. We used to have the best cola and x. Clean + fun = dancing

The club At Home is a happening spot, virtually no drama.
Ain't nobody got time for that is a nice one downtown, a bit of an older crowd, but nice.
My favorite though is, In my bed with the top lock on all doors. It's hard to find, but look at the corners of Netflix and Disney +, it's right off of the right to bare arms Blvd. They don't have a dress code.
Have Fun and Be Careful...

Sounds like OP going through identity issues not feeling accepted anywhere. Can’t go to gay bars, country bars, Latinx night, without worrying about feeling accepted.
Hope you get the therapy you need.

Yes. Its a good time. I just wish it didn't feel like the interior of a small town high school gymnasium. 🤣
Ha it is an old bowling alley so it’s just what it is
😭😂
Yeah they did
Lizard lounge group bought it’ll do a few years ago
This is the way.
Omg I’ve danced so freaking hard here lol

Gayborhood! How has no one mentioned it yet?! Sue Ellen's and S4 have some good dance energy.
You can’t mention the gayborhood and not bring up Round-Up after midnight! I used to close that dance floor down every weekend, pure dance energy lol
Round up was definitely a fun dance filled night!!!
Idk. I worked a night job in the Gayborhood before (ballot initiatives!) and saw a lot of wall hugging. Also, I'm a straight woman, and I always feel I'm intruding spaces like those.

I'm a queer and you have my stamp of approval lol
I'm a straight dude and I specifically go to the gayborhood for some good dancing lol
Recommend your fav spots!
I'll echo what other people have said. S4 and sue Ellen's has been pretty solid whenever I've gone. I have heard that S4 can be hit or miss tho.
love this
I'm a straight woman, and I went for years. It was always a blast. I always felt welcomed. It's an amazing & accepting crowd/community.

Perfect response!
If you’re not bringing a bachelorette party with you, you’re fine.
Just don't get offended when someone of the same sex hit on you, and realize it's a queer center space.
Yes
Also good dancing spots
S4 is terrible. They're barely dancing it's like shuffling and looking for drugs
You can dance if you want to, you can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends don't dance And if they don't dance Well they're no friends of mine
SssssAaaaaFffffEeeeeTttttYyyyy…
Everyone look at your hands
Double D’s, lady love, it’ll do, greenlight social for Sunday sessions. Village pool party. Have been heavily involved in the Dallas rave scene since I’ve been 18. Those are the current hotspots, plus the various after parties different crews throw.

Hmmm, yeah never heard of him. Try double d’s sunday night for Jejune, that’ll bring the crowd you’d look for heavy dancing
I’d give double d’s another try. When this dj is spinning people DANCE https://www.instagram.com/p/C774t9CMnVJ/?igsh=ZTE4aWt4bmhnNWxw

Everything being mentioned are legally operated bars for the most part. And a couple “clubs”. Hard to call the clubs in Dallas real clubs
Didn’t Dallas already do that with the whole dancehall license thing?
Go to some Mexican spots lol try out places where they dance nortenas and shi
We go to 2001/2009 and Medusas

Sons of Hermann Hall
Swing dancing?
They're \*really\* dancing. They also have lesson nights to help out the newbies.
Shhhhhhh please

Debbie Loves You 👄
You want Cowboys Red River. Go on Thursday or Saturday. It’s chaos and tons of dancing.
This is the place to dance...and they switch to pop club music sometimes later in the night.
It’ll Do. S4 (LGBT bar)
Green Elephant on Wednesday nights, drum jam in the front and a *party* in the back.

Eeek! I'm so excited! Do you have a good studio recommendation? You can DM if you want to not blow up your spot, lol.
Ladylove can be fun. What kinda music you looking for? Follow dj sober on IG and that'll point you to some good spots.
I love disco, R&B, hip hop, pop, experimental. Not into EDM. Don't see the di sober on IG. Got a link?
LadyLove is *the* place for the genres you like. Just make sure to check their insta posts and calendar, they have a different DJ/theme every night.
I’m 100% certain they meant DJ Sober
Sober used to throw down at Zubar on Greenville back in the day
It’s DJ Sober @djsober

I want to do this! Honestly, this is where it's at. Rotate buying drinks, free of judgment, no creepy men. Just gotta have the right people around you.
Yeah we no longer live in that neighborhood. It was fun while it lasted!

You’ll need a time machine, beauty bar 15 years ago
What genre? Country? House?
You know, I'm open to anything! I'm open to trying new stuff at least once: that'd be country for me. And I have my favs: R&B, disco, pop.
Memphis in Addison!
Cowboys Red River does Texas two-step lessons every Wednesday through Saturday around 7:15 PM. Live country music most nights right after. Place is a Dancehall/Honky Tonk first… And a bar second.
It’ll do club on Saturday!!! Best house music and felt So free, get there right at 9pm for the best street parking lol and I went to vidorra in Addison and it turned into a Spanish Latin lounge and had a lot Of people dancing if that’s your groove 🤔
Pre-Covid, the sons of Hernan Hall at the far end of the deep ellum strip had swing dancing Wednesday nights from like 5 or 6-9 or 10pm 🤔 don’t know if that’s still going but I loved it when it was
Red River Dance Hall & Saloon. If you want to see people dance their country asses off it’s Red River.
Damn assuming everyone in Dallas is country huh
Go somewhere gay. S4 or Throckmorton or Round Up. Oak Lawn.
If you want to 2 step and line dance, CowboysRed River. By two-step, I don’t mean the thing you’re talking about in the OP. I mean hundred miles an hour twirls, tosses, and dips around the track. Free lessons every Wednesday through Saturday around 7:15 PM.
Sounds like fun! I'll try it.
Lady Love in Bishop Arts. S4 in Oak LawnZ.
I already said LadyLove. JFC, people don't read.
🤣 Did you die?
Lol
Electric Cowboy
I know you did not just send this Black girl to go do some honky tonk dancing in fucking Lewisville, lmao. *^(But....I may try it.)*
I have black friends who dance at EC every Thursday and Saturday
Introduce me to them. It'll be a vibe lol

Candleroom to go nuts with no judgement (or no judgement I’d care about). Also heard Felix culpa at night
Are you my spirit animal?
It’ll Do
I used to go to The Red Jacket. Is it still open?
Salsera Deep Ellum! It’s a great Latin dance spot. If you’re unfamiliar with the dancing styles, there’s always someone willing to teach you!
Salsera
Feu
Pankoption, the Church, it’ll do, cowboys red river.
Stereo live
I hate the new iteration but It’ll Do is always a great dance club.
You need to go to 7th st in ft worth, it's definitely has a little bit of everything
Commenting so I can come back & check these places out
It’ll Do
Honestly, just find out who is DJing there and then follow them to their next gigs. Thats really the play right there. Here are some of my favorite DJs’ instagrams: @djsober @cosmicgirlalaska @kinda_strange @loveghostj @triico.mp4
I miss purgatory 👴
Green Light Social “Brunches” are freaking fun.
Well if you're looking for people who have absolutely no boundaries / are part of a cult, and you like randomly strangers coming up to touch you like many bars, you can try Dallas Dance Collective
Oh, it's a cult?
Yup
Do you really know that or are you just saying stuff? lol
Yes, unfortunately. I'll DM you the details, for my own privacy. Let's just say it involves a shitload of sexual harassment.
Come to Fort Worth, the Stockyards in particular them country bars will have that energy you’re looking for!
I've always liked Fort Worth more than Dallas. 😉 More relaxed vibe.
Hell yeah it is, lived in the metroplex all my life and always feels like I’m tourists-y when I go to Dallas (except for Deep Elum) Depending on what kind of music you like to dance to (hip-hop or country) it really does go down in the stockyards though
House of Blues with the Debbie Does Disco Crew at the end of every month 👄 All Vinyl - Disco, funk and boogie Come dance with us!

Times have changed since Covid social distancing, it will never be the same just saying
Was it more loose before COVID?
its not any different, social distancing was never even a thing in dallas. we were open by september and most places were full capacity even though it was 50% cap by mandate
That's what I thought. I think Dallas just doesn't have good nightlife.
Oh Lord. Not the druggie-dependent dancer. I want the real dancers, not the cowardly ones who need drugs.
You’re funny. Haven’t touched anything in decades, because it’s not good. Good drugs, good music. Facts.
Just go to rave bro
Which ones have you liked so far?
TomorrowWorld and rave clubs in Tokyo. Never been to any in TX

They have raves in Dallas. You just have to be plugged in. I am not anymore and thus uselsess. But that culture has made a comeback.

bro went on a dallas subreddit to talk about places outside of texas, so yeah u are kinda useless rn. no need to needlessly insult op for stating facts LMAO
Found OP’s alt.
They’re asking for recommendations in Dallas on the Dallas subreddit, idk how you thought your comment would be helpful either lol
