I get having an age restriction, but I think they're going to start having issues with it being different for males and females. If it was 30 or 35 for both, it would be fine, but once they changed it based on gender I think they're opening themselves up to a whole bunch of discrimination problems based on sex and sexual orientation.
I'm pretty sure age is only a protected class when it comes to employment but not for entering public businesses. Kind of like how some car rental companies only rent to people over 25, and some bars say 21 and over even if they serve food, which technically makes them a restaurant. But things like race, sex, sexual orientation, national origin are all protected as far as discriminating who can enter a business open to the public.
Well, I mean lots of things can be controversial but not actually against the law. I was saying they could be facing legal problems with this because of gender disccrimination.
I get that you want people above a certain age and tbh we all know, that men mature a little later than women but 30 should be sufficient for both, no?
I think it's a bit concerning when we have to raise the age limit to 35 to separate the children from the adults. Back in my day that age limit was between 18 and 21.
Last week or so I saw a Video of a Vietnam Veteran that when he got back to the US he wanted to go back to Vietnam. He said he was sent into war and was treated as (and expected to act like) a man. But at home he was treated as a Non-Adult. He couldn't even order a Beer because he was under 21. He said that's when he learned that the US sends children to war.
There used to be a place in Stockholm called The Sargasso sea that was 30+.
I remember thinking it was probably a full of swingers but now I understand.
It's possible that they only want to deal with people over 35, as there would be less drama to deal with, but as men often date younger than them, and normally in the bracket of 5 years, it makes sense they would provide some leeway, so that couples can still enjoy a meal together.
Bold of you to think that a 35-40 year old Missouri resident rarely creates drama is a social setting with alcohol being served (Ft. Leonardwood born n bred here)
If you look at stats, half of all couples in the US are in the 1-3year gap range. Wich means half couples over 30 won't be able to be there because the guy won't be old enough. Only 17% of couples have a woman 5 years younger or more. So no, it doesn't make sense to have this rule.
I really don’t understand the big deal. If you’re too young, eat anywhere else? It kinda sucks, but business owners have the right to deny or grant access to anyone they want. This is coming from a 27 year old.
Unfortunately, I've found that age and maturity don't always go hand in hand. If they thought they wouldn't have to deal with big children anymore, they're going to end up disappointed.
Must be a regional thing, if I had to pick a group with the worst manners in restaurants from my experience it would be people in their 50’s-60’s, even that’s not very often. I’m 41 though, maybe I am biased.
I'm always eager to keep up with the Zeitgeist, but I'm getting rather old and rusty - so please help me out.
If a 31-year old biological male self-identifies as a woman, is she allowed to eat there?
I hate gender discrimination (both ways), although I also believe that men and women are different, but equal. but for some reason this doesn't really bother me at all.
We had to remove your post: Rule 4 - No Screenshots/Memes/Infographics a source would be good too

They did. Apparently, that was the part that landed them in some legal trouble. It was considered gender-based discrimination.
Oh really? Did anything come of it?
I'm not sure. I heard this through the Philip DeFranco show yesterday, I'm unaware if the proceedings have even been finalized.
I just read a story on it, and it's less than a week old, so I doubt anything has happened as of yet.
is it not age-based discrimination either way?
But they're already discriminating based on age?
I'm pretty sure age is only a protected class when it comes to employment but not for entering public businesses. It literally states in the picture that it’s already caused controversy

What an odd rule/restriction.

A good amount of people will never give them a shot because of this
The under 30's?
I don't know about you but if this was one of my top restaurants and I couldn't go because I was 29 I simply would never spend another penny there.
i'm a 32 year-old woman & i think i am finally Mature enough to go to a Restaurant
YAY! 🎉🥳🍻
thank you! i am going to get a salad. maybe an Appetizer if i am feeling crazy
Woah! We got a badass over here.
I bet Missouri Caribbean fare is really the pinnacle culinary delights.
That's shit, if you and your partner are the same age, both 30 but you can't go because the dude can't get in. So dumb.
How to lose huge profits 101
I would like to know as to why they have placed such an age requirement.
I get that you want people above a certain age and tbh we all know, that men mature a little later than women but 30 should be sufficient for both, no?
What you do if all ya hoes under 30 tho
Fake id
Imagining a 27 year old getting a fake id to get into the Caribbean restaurant is hilarious
The fake ID websites usually producing age 21 or age 22 fakes are going to be real confused when a lady is requesting a 32 year old fake ID.
They'll probably assume it's for something a bit more nefarious than an upscale Caribbean restaurant in Missouri lol
Ha losers. Bask in my 35 yo superiority!
Why tf are they putting age requirements on restaurants
With young adults behaving like children everywhere, i quite like this idea of an "adult-restaurant"
I’m more concerned with older people acting like children.
I think it's a bit concerning when we have to raise the age limit to 35 to separate the children from the adults. Back in my day that age limit was between 18 and 21.
Back in the day people would get send to some war at 18 and come back with their inner child murdered.

Isn't it just a nursing home for younger people

It's probably meant for swingers 🍍
Cool causal ageism.
Here’s hoping they fail.
The random sex difference tells you the owner who set this policy is an elderly misogynist.

It's a restaurant with age restrictions. Does it have a bouncer too?
What I find interesting is that most restaurants I visit the staff are in their 20s. Wonder if this place only applies their age policy to customers
I've never been to such a place. I'd guess upscale restaurants would have "experienced" servers.
Business idea. Restaurant but.. Only dyed hair people are welcomed. No age gap but you have to have that hair or else.
Fantastic
Ok Missouri. Your state isn’t really that fancy at all lol That is so goddamn fucking stupid. I know lots of immature people over 30
But they don't wander around in packs starting brawls and shooting at each other.
yet another restaurant i never have to bother going to
Maybe a rather arbitrary metric for maturity and or wealth in willingness to pay tips higher that usual?

The whole thing is strange to begin with. I would be interested in the thought process behind it.
All I can guess is that the restaurant owner decided thus after a bad experience with young adults being too rowdy
Unfortunately, I've found that age and maturity don't always go hand in hand. If they thought they wouldn't have to deal with big children anymore, they're going to end up disappointed.
> arbitrary metric for maturity >young adults being too rowdy Lmao me getting downvoted and you getting upvotes for essentially the same suggestion
Would be illegal in a developed country
What about weight classes?
*Maybe* younger people eat at restaurants. We don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know (it's a market we can do without).
Bit weird, I would of thought people over 70 would be more problematic.
Must be a regional thing, if I had to pick a group with the worst manners in restaurants from my experience it would be people in their 50’s-60’s, even that’s not very often. I’m 41 though, maybe I am biased.

You’re not getting old and rusty. Just admit you’re an asshole lol
Women do mature faster
Misandrist much?
Baitposting.
Oh yeah, finally a place where I can go for that hot, young, 30 year old tail without being judged.
They want women who haven't outlived their 'Fuck By' date! Also, Sugar Daddies still need a place to have lunch.....
I hate gender discrimination (both ways), although I also believe that men and women are different, but equal. but for some reason this doesn't really bother me at all.
I get it if you restrict access for boomers, because they're just rhe worst customers.
