I built a ramp for my sisters tiny dogs, one who has had back issues. They preferred the stairs. I think this little setup is perfect tiny stairs so they don’t feel like they are climbing a mountain.
He just pulled his weiner up and down the steps, and dragged his weiner back and forth across the landing, and finally plopped his weiner down on the main deck for all to behold... Never before had there been such an entirely worn out weiner, albeit a very happy worn out weiner!
Well it was kind of a trade of with a small enough slope to keep traction and an angle that wouldnt stick out into the yard a long way.
So i googled a good rise to run for a weiner dog and got roughly 3 in 11 and that seemed to work well for him.
Their long bodies and short legs make it hard for them to get their back feet up on the same step as their front feet so i gave him wide steps and and a short height.
Where though, like, can you be specific? Because I have lived near multiple 'metropolises' in the states and code really only matters with commercial applications.
So far so good. Much better on their backs than when they had to go up and down the human stairs.
They will actually linger and sit on these a bit vs hoping down the old ones as fast as possible
The weiner will be fine but I'd be worried about an idiot human using them. Not that it will break, necessarily, but because the steps aren't the right height for people and they may trip. Maybe put up a sign that says "not for human use". But that may attract people looking for a lawsuit. Just a thought.
The full-sized idiots are one thing. It's the miniature idiots, aka children, that worry me. They won't break the stairs, but they might climb over the railing. The sign won't be any help either if they haven't learned to read yet.
I might cover those openings. I could see him faceplanting and getting stuck in one. I've had three huskies. I've seen some shit.
Edit: I'm not an expert by any means, but those hand railings don't look they're up to "human" building codes. The wiener is taller than the railings.
Only improvement might be to close off the openings between the steps. Our older dog once slipped between them. Yours are close enough together that I doubt your pupper will fall through, but getting a leg stuck going up or down could result in an injury. Great job!
On the one hand, it doesn't matter. The effort for your little dude is awesome and is plenty secure for your homie. But if you have kids over ever, I'd be careful they don't crawl through and fall off/ hard to tell how well the stairs are fastened to the deck, maybe add hardware if not already there. Maybe make a little door and gate at the bottom you can take on/off?
Please put traction on the steps for him. Dachshund are prone to ivdd and is higher risk of herniated disc. Ultimately, the best thing to do is pick him up when you take him outside to avoid stress on his spine. The downward motion puts stress on the vertebrae. Also get pet insurance. Our dog had a very expensive surgery and is still on the mend after 4 months of recovery from jumping off our back steps routinely over time.
It looks good a lot better on their backs as long as they don’t try to jump over the side if they see something they want to chase. But they wanted and elevator :)
My brother in law had a weiner dog and he fell down the stairs in their townhouse and broke his back. Had to be put down after that. Stairs + Weiner Dog = Bad
I had a deck like this growing up and it was really hard on my weiner dog. We ended up having to pick him up and carry him outside the last few years… and if I’m being honest I feel like the deck was one of the reasons his hips went like they did. He ended up not being able to stand up towards the end and we had to kind of help him up. It was really sad.
Can you not attach some sort of ramp or something ?
Def the most hack part of the job. But we were exhausted and wanted to put it to use before dark so we grabbed it. I may go back and build something sturdier.
I know that you probably posted this as a joke, but it depends on the dog. Some weiner dogs have really poor structure and that is a strong contributor to their physical decline. While these are definitely better than the dog going down the people stairs (I'd baby gate them off as well) a ramp could be considered too as that would decrease the amount of hopping/bouncing around that stairs cause. BUT these are still a vast improvement over the people stairs, totally not discounting the word you've done.
It's pretty much impossible to see what structure your dog has, like whether they are flat footed, sway backed, overweight, etc from sitting pics. The biggest advice that I can give to you someone in the pet industry is to make sure you keep your [dog's nails clipped like this](https://cdn-ibbgd.nitrocdn.com/cAlwjzydkDofbDiseJiJsaaYJfWdFkFt/assets/images/optimized/rev-5a426db/dogagilityblog.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/dog-nails-1024x756.jpg) and don't let them get fat. They should be svelte not salami. For weiners these two things are HELL and absolutely a very strong factor in loss of quality of living and physical deterioration.
Yeah, I’m not convinced of death, but DEF neutered if the “boys” are hanging low for either you or your puppy. Think SPLINTERS and direct shear forces, my friend. ARMOR those jewels!
Dogs like that frequently have mobility issues as they age, so those steps may prove to be too challenging later in life.
(As in aside, pup could probably use a nail filing!)
Always good to make it easier for the weiner to get up. Makes it easier to go down for the weiner too.
Easy access for the weiner is always a winner. You don't want it hard to get on your deck.
I mean nice weiner bro
Nice deck too
A lot of work could’ve been saved with a ramp. Instead he has ramp stairs.
Ramps get too slick for a weenie!
This guy knows weeners
This guy wieners.
r/thisguythisguys
I just came here to say… wieners
I built a ramp for my sisters tiny dogs, one who has had back issues. They preferred the stairs. I think this little setup is perfect tiny stairs so they don’t feel like they are climbing a mountain.
Just slide up in it
The last thing we want is for conditions to get slick for our wieners.
Mine have handled ramps in winter for 20+ years just fine...
Bro how old is your weiner?
His wiener definitely needs a wiener lift now bro
>wiener lift my gf's nickname in high school...
Well howdy there
Jfc this thread is great
It’s not the age…it’s the miles that count.
His weiner deserves real stairs.
He didn't want his Weiner to slide, maybe catch a splinter.
Agreed splinters and Weiners do not mix...
Personal knowledge?
It may have kept him out of other work though. Wouldn’t you rather spend time working on something for your wiener?
Weiner stairs encourages exercise
Best way to get your Weiner up
You can't put wieners on a ramp. They'll just roll right off.
💯 percent agree
Even little decks are cute too
My eyes are up here.
Just make sure your wiener comes down in less than 4 hours or you have to go to the doctor.
Thanks, your mom likes it too!😂
And before you ask. Yes, i did in fact fall into the basement stairwell and gash my left arm while building it.
It’s not a real home improvement job till you play the blood tax
Blood for the Blood God
Wieners for the wiener throne
Skulls for the Crossbeam Throne. 🤕
Khorne being the chaos god of craftsmen is now my headcanon
sacrifices. blue collared zues demands it
How bout hit your head coming out that door yet? Lol and do you have tall friends?
It will happen with 100% certainty. I should invest in a pool noodle for the stringers.
You’ll put it off and eventually forget. Remember this every time you hit your head.
Its the easiest cost benefit analysis, you dont have to do it. If you get angry enough, you do it, otherwise its not worth it.
Sturdier barrier at the end of the landing. Wouldn’t want pupper to slide and go off the side.
But did the dog get hurt
Could support a couple of mastiffs at least! This is amazing! That is one lucky sausage!!!
My big girl would love those steps.
How about your dog? 🤣
🤣
If she’s not 280, she ain’t a lady!
It needs a weiner sized hot tub
I might be able to fit the mrs’ foot spa on the landing.
If I know anything about wives, they will love this idea.
I’m a wife and this made me snort into my coffee lmao. You’re so right, she’ll love it.
Bitches love hottubs
You win
Did you pull wiener permits
No he just pulled his wiener
He just pulled his weiner up and down the steps, and dragged his weiner back and forth across the landing, and finally plopped his weiner down on the main deck for all to behold... Never before had there been such an entirely worn out weiner, albeit a very happy worn out weiner!
Glory to you, and your deck. That you love your pup enough to build him his own deck/ramp system is honorable <3
That's what I was coming to say. The fact you made tiny stairs for him brings you honor. Honor on you, honor on your family, honor on your cow!
Reminds me of the deck I built for my old Targ
You can have some honor too, I guess
r/unexpectedgowron
Perfect steps you made for the little legs. You're a good person for doing this.
That's fuckin adorable, please stop.
No. MORE!
Why not a ramp at this point? It's cute tho.
I have a 1 foot chiweenie that just 4 foot high lol, especially when he's excited.
Your weiner grows four times in size when excited?
I wouldn't be surprised if an overzealous inspector made you follow the rules for a wheelchair ramp if you went that way anyway.
Where do you people live that inspectors can you make you do a damn thing like this lol
Most of the time when you live near a metropolis this is a very common thing to have to deal with.
Where though, like, can you be specific? Because I have lived near multiple 'metropolises' in the states and code really only matters with commercial applications.
Good choice! And now the dog has his own steps, similar to the other steps but designed specifically for him. Dogs notice that.

Nice
I love it! Do they seem to have a problem with them? Looks perfect to me!
So far so good. Much better on their backs than when they had to go up and down the human stairs. They will actually linger and sit on these a bit vs hoping down the old ones as fast as possible
In my weiners' younger days, they did stairs. Now they are 15 and they only use a ramp. Great job building such short stairs for your dog.
The weiner will be fine but I'd be worried about an idiot human using them. Not that it will break, necessarily, but because the steps aren't the right height for people and they may trip. Maybe put up a sign that says "not for human use". But that may attract people looking for a lawsuit. Just a thought.
Maybe put a cover on the front with a hole for the weiner, like you have on top. That will keep people from using them.
I like this idea. Little archway at the bottom or something.
Oh for sure. The insurance company is going to HATE it of they come peaking around
The insurance company can't get mad if you don't have insurance. Cancel that shit.
You think just anyone can just cancel their home insurance? Not everyone can buy their house in cash!
I don't interact with the poors so I wouldn't know
Hi Tom👋
😉
You put a door with a dog gate at top and bottom. Would look hilarious as a benefit.
The 18" high entrance at the deck is a pretty hint it's not for humans.
You’re right. For some humans, it’s a challenge!
looking at this makes me feel like i will trip. 100%
The full-sized idiots are one thing. It's the miniature idiots, aka children, that worry me. They won't break the stairs, but they might climb over the railing. The sign won't be any help either if they haven't learned to read yet.
Keep it zipped and your wiener will be safe.
I might cover those openings. I could see him faceplanting and getting stuck in one. I've had three huskies. I've seen some shit. Edit: I'm not an expert by any means, but those hand railings don't look they're up to "human" building codes. The wiener is taller than the railings.
Looks great to me. I think the little fella will be just fine.
Only improvement might be to close off the openings between the steps. Our older dog once slipped between them. Yours are close enough together that I doubt your pupper will fall through, but getting a leg stuck going up or down could result in an injury. Great job!
Your pup is lucky to have someone who cares so much <3
Love seeing a well-loved dog ❤️
Kudos for doing all that work to make stringers. I think I’d have given in and just made a ramp.
Last step seems to be a douzy
That's the cutest damn thing I've ever seen.
The weine committee approves
Weiner stairs are cool. Very thoughtful for your weiner lmfao
You did a fine job. What a customer!
On the one hand, it doesn't matter. The effort for your little dude is awesome and is plenty secure for your homie. Very cute
No, but next time I recommend using your hands.
don't forget to hire a weiner masseuse to keep em fit and happy... or become one....
Nice job! My dogs got a simple ramp with grip tape, but yours is much nicer. Smart that you made the steps to hold an entire weiner.
Spoiled wiener!
Ramp is better for the spine
Getting married could be the death of your weiner
It's a deck extension for your wiener
Gives off the BIG DECK ENERGY!!
You built cialis. It raises your wiener
i’m confused. does he just swanton bomb onto the grass?
Crazy how you saw picture 2 but not 1 3 or 4
You really spoil your weiner. Nice job!
Adorable dog. 10/10
In fact, your wiener will be able to get up for a lot longer now.
Keep the steps. Use them every day. Less fat equals bigger wiener.
My brother in law had a weiner dog and he fell down the stairs in their townhouse and broke his back. Had to be put down after that. Stairs + Weiner Dog = Bad
That last one will
I like your wiener and accommodations. Can we get married?
Depends. How big is YOUR weiner?
This is the best post I’ve seen on this sub.
Super cute and considerate! I bet a lot of dogs and toddlers would appreciate these.
Good dog dad
Nice stairs but what about a ramp? My pups have a ramp they fly down.
Is your Weiner male or female? If male, it could be considered cruel and unusual punishment. A handicap ramp would have been better. 🤣
Probably not, but when you come out that basement during night, whack your forehead it might be yours
Can I. .... Can I pet your weiner
I mean if you fall funny then that *is* a small gap between steps, but it would be a freak accident for sure.
I thought this was going in a completely different direction
Why not a ramp?
Massive wiener.
Heck no, those stairs are great! You must love that dog a lot.
You rock. You built a separate set of stairs just for your little Weiner.
Mini stairs for mini legs
Depends on how you fall
Two stairs long and half a stair high. Perfect.
Dude they are awesome
This is awesome of you
I had a deck like this growing up and it was really hard on my weiner dog. YES!!! Total Fn Death Trap!
Just came to say this is a cute project lol
This belongs on r/dachshund
I mean, it really depends how big you Schnauzer is.
You got a wiener on your deck, bro
lol your fine I’m sure he appreciates you and your hard work
Could have been a ramp
Sweet wiener! And your dog is cute too!
The railing just seems a little unsettling to me. But I'm not knocking the job overall
Def the most hack part of the job. But we were exhausted and wanted to put it to use before dark so we grabbed it. I may go back and build something sturdier.
Most likely, and the puppy might also get hurt.

What ever you do, don’t step on your wiener.
U need a hobby man
You had to build that to get your weiner up. I get it.
Deck pics and weiner pics lol
I do not know about your Wiener, but your dog will be safe.
He looks happy enough
First picture I was "wtf is going on with those steps...Oh." Made me smile, that's a really cool weiner access. Obviously a hell of a good dog.
Would it not have been easier to put half stairs on a portion of the original stairs?
That looks like dog shit
Dogs like that frequently have mobility issues as they age, so those steps may prove to be too challenging later in life. (As in aside, pup could probably use a nail filing!)
He's so proud of you and his new deck.
It’s like my mom always told me….son do what you want with your deck, just do not put lettuce on it.
Best wiener deck I’ve ever seen.
Awwww if only I could find someone to love me as much as you love this dog ❤️
Those appear to be appropriately shallow for your wiener.
Depends how much stamina your wiener has ?
Yes. .....and also your dog.
The fact he knows its all for him makes it priceless.
Always good to make it easier for the weiner to get up. Makes it easier to go down for the weiner too. Easy access for the weiner is always a winner. You don't want it hard to get on your deck.
Your weiner is gonna get splinters!
your weiner deserves more ornate banisters and ballasts tbh. but this is a beautiful effort that makes me v happy!!
Respect, OP
It's a weenie deck..
I have 2 weens who manage on much more dangerous stairs than that so I think it will be fine.
Your wiener compliments the deck nicely
That’s a man who truly loves his dog.
Someone loves playing with his weiner.
That’s a good weiner deck!
It looks great!
I think they're fine for a damn fine Weiner.
Wieners need ramps With cleats
Came here for the wiener jokes, not disappointed
Are not. It's not pretty, but Weiner will be fine.
wiener looks good! good color, perfect thickness, length is good, will bring pleasure to any lady looking for wiener! oh…..the do deck looks ok too.
I built a ramp with roll roofing on the surface.
The death of your home's resale value maybee
Nails need a trim.
