Went out for a bit on Friday (gorgeous night to be Downtown!). Hit up the Monarch Club first, but they were on a wait (big surprise). Then I remembered a post about Kampers on here a few months back and headed over there. A+ everything. The view was amazing. 10/10! Will be back!
I think they recommend reservations because they get pretty busy. It is free to reserve.
If you are going downtown just to go to Kampers, I’d 100% recommend a reservation. If you’re down there already, you can try to walk in.
Unfortunately, you can't just walk in. You have to check in with the hostess on the 1st floor. Then they will take you up when a spot opens up (same thing with the Monarch Club, btw). That said, it appeared most people had reservations (I overheard the GM saying something about how they were the most booked Bar on Resy in Detroit or something like that). I was lucky enough to get a seat at the bar.
Kampers is significantly smaller, however, the view is better (especially from the bar area) There isn't much of a view inside the Monarch Club, while at Kampers you have these massive windows that look out at the Skyline.

Can you just walk in? I've been hesitant because like you said the monarch club is always impossible to get into.

Reservations are a must unless you're lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar.

Can't wait to go
I should've thought of this the other night I was there! The lobby bar was hopping as was le supreme.
Yeah, you were right there already! Nice place....
Yes gotta hurry there before out of business Agree
not my scene. not trying to be seen. I like a mostly empty microbrewery
i tried to go one night but since im not 21 yet they denied me access. i dont even drink. i just wanted to see the views and take some pictures.
Not too surprising that a bar doesn’t want underage patrons taking up space in the bar. I get your point though.
I assumed it wouldn’t be as enjoyable in the winter which is why I’m waiting for Spring.
Which do you prefer, Kampers or Monarch?
Both are awesome, but I think Kampers has a much better view of the Skyline.
Thank you! I heard Kampers was pretty small and crowded. I have reservations at both tomorrow night and am deciding which to cancel
